So, for quite some time now my phone couldn't get recognized by my pc.
Tested on another PC, Nothing
Tested another device, worked. (Moto G5s)
Tested another cable, Nothing
Changed charging ports, nothing
So, what could be?
Right now, thanks to some OTA update shenanigans, my phone apparently is without a working OS. So I really need to know how to fix the USB port

So I somehow during my flashing adventures got to the point where my sgs3 would no longer recieve 4g/3g signal but only 2g. I reverted to stock rom, still had the issue (4.0.4), and it wouldn't let me upgrade to jelly bean, it told me "unable to connect to network" when I tried system update. So i took to the fixing my imei number, which apparently did something as I was then able to connect to the server and upgrade to jelly bean, with one problem; I was still getting 2g. I continued to try to use the rest of the guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801997) but on jelly bean my computer would no longer recognize my phone through odin or qpst, etc, but I could view the files. I could do nothing to get it to bring up a port I could connect to. I downloaded/installed/uninstalled/installed the driver many times and still couldn't get it to connect. Like an idiot I tried through odin to flash back down to 4.0.4 so I could reestablish connection and continue fixing my 2g signal, but it quit halfway through and said "Can't open the serial(com) port" and didn't flash, so whenever I tried to turn on my phone i got the firmware upgrade error and telling me to connect to kies and use recovery mode, which I did. However, Kies wouldn't recognize my phone through it. It's drivers never connected, and it just sits there saying connecting. Samsung's help/support over the phone was literally WORTHLESS ("indian accent" Take da battery out ov your phone, sir. Wait 10 seconds. Put it back in..... They literally told me at one point "Go into menu, settings..." me-" In my phone?" him "Yes that is correct" me "Thats my problem dude, I CANT TURN IT ON") and I currently have a ups label to ship it in to get repaired, but I want to know if there is anything I can do before sending it in and waiting 5-7 days without a cell phone. Thanks in advance to help
Odin the stock4.1.1 software pre rooted or not.. My phone froze at samsung screen but just reboot and it will be fine
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Did you even read the post...? haha it's not that simple, or otherwise I would've fixed it.
make sure you are using the samsung cable that came with your phone.
I don't have the cable that came with my phone, but that has never stopped me before and I don't see why It would affect my computers ability to recognize my phone if it was perfectly capable of doing such before.
So, the system won't detect anything when you plug it in, not even after a reboot?
Well, there are a couple things you can try.
First, uninstall Kies and the Samsung USB drivers.
Reboot.
Install the drivers in my signature (they are older ones, but stable - unlike the newer ones).
If that doesn't work, try a new cable and USB port on your system.
If that doesn't work, it's bad hardware.
This will end with you flashing a stock image, probably.

The computer makes the sound when I plug in my phone, so it recognizes it. I just can't access the com port and use odin. I'm trying what you gave me right now

Glad you got the problem solved. The reason I said to use the samsung cable is that I was able to root and flash my first rom with a non samsung cable then after that it wouldn't work unless I used the samsung cable.
Since yesterday my phone refuses to charge while booted into android (CM 10.1.2 Stable).
However it has absolutely no problems charging while turned off, in bootloader or hboot.
Also it will not be detected by PC usb so I can't flash a different ROM. What the hell is going on?
How do I get out of this mess?
Just to be clear I've already hard resetted the phone. It would appear that the usb drivers on the phone are to blame?
Need some help guys.

Here's what I've tried so far:
Reinstalled HTC drivers
Installed a different recovery
Installed a different ROM with a stock kernel
VOodOO magic
Nothing has worked so far.
If I turn the phone off I can use adb to flash ROMS and such. However USB will not work when the device is on:
No charging or data transfer over USB. Otherwise phone appears to be working perfectly.

It's was happened to me with Sony Xperia Z, when usb debugging on all are working, but actually it's not a normal condition.
My pc is windows64bit and happening this problem so changed to win32 all are OK, So I think this may be driver conflict in PC.
Therefore if possible you try with another PC.

Tried different cords and PCs.
Even wall chargers do not work.
Also comfirmed that a middle strip of around 10% of my screen area is dead to touch.
All signs indicate hardware damage. Might take it to HTC to get fixed now.

Hi guys i have a weird situation I recently updated to lollipop OTA and my usb stopped working it wont mount to my pc I've tried everything from uninstalling drivers to reinstalling to using different PCs to cables and nothing seems to work. Although my phone still charges when i connect it to the wall plug and also on the PC the only thing is it doesn't even get recognized by my computer it just don't pick it up. 2nd thing i found was i tried launching download mode to see if i could just restore it back to 4.4.2 but now my download mode is also gone I'm assuming that when it updated it all got corrupted is there anyway i can fix this? I forgot to mention my phone works properly it boots up fine and everything.

how is that suppose to help with my problem i mean it ain't damaged in any way?
You can get your download mode back so that you can the tot out kdz and do what you want to do.
I'm having a weird issue with my Pixel 2 XL. I recently purchased Pixel 3 and used the adapter to transfer apps, etc from my Pixel 2 to the Pixel 3. It worked as intended.
However, after that happened, the Pixel 2 XL is not being recognized by my computer. I plug it in and it only charges and there's no notification to change usb mode. It also won't charge using the included charger that came with the phone.
My end goal is to unroot and relock bootloader so i can sell it but obviously I'm stuck. I've read it may be a USB 3.0 issue so I've ordered a 2.0 cable and it should be here in a couple days but looking for any suggestions. Below is what I've tried:
* Multiple computers and different cables
* USB debugging is on and default USB is set to file transfer.
* I've cleared media storage and external storage cache per Google product forums.

Your likely right. Getting a 2.0 USB A to USB C cable is probably the solution. Many have had this issue. Including myself. There's even been times when a cable that did work, didn't work the next day. Then a week latter, it will. Go figure! :fingers-crossed:

I appreciate the response as it makes me feel a little bit better about the situation and if it's a cable issue, I'll make sure to update the post.

This. I had a similar issue and ended up uninstalling the drivers in device manager, then plugging the phone back in so the drivers could be downloaded again. Worked like a charm.

So I got in the new USB 2.0 cable and computer still doesn't recognize the phone. I updated drivers and that didn't work either. I also uninstalled drivers but seeing as the computer isn't recognizing phone, it's not installing drivers when the phone is plugged back in.
The phone works except there's an update pending but it won't install, which I'm assuming it's do to the fact the bootloader is unlocked.
Is there anyway to install March security update using just twrp and downloading files to my phone and see if that'll work?

Bummer man! You've got a stubborn one, or a bad port. You can download the OTA from here....
https://developers.google.com/android/ota
Then flash it in twrp. However, remember to flash twrp again after the update is finished, then let the phone boot up, then go back to twrp and flash root and custom kernel if you use one :good:

Couple days ago warp charge suddenly stooped working. No fast charge either. Charging at about 5-6%/hour. no system changes remotely coincide, wiped cache tried various wall outlets. Any method possible to determine the root cause weather power adapter or cable or device.
Thanks in advance.

Unable to test another cable since don't know anyone with a oneplus device. I do get charging but very slow.
I will try to reinstall the fast boot rom fresh & see what happens, sure hoped to avoid that tho.
Now i can't get adb to recognize the device at all. It is charging but regardless of how USB is configured it won't do anything, not even request for authorization. Tried rebooting both devices, wiped cache, revoked authorization, toggled USB debugging & flashed back to stock kernel. Guessing factory reset is the last option at this point unless someone has a better idea.
Thanks
Additionally it isn't recognized as a storage device or anything. Going to try another machine in the morning, maybe mine has seen better days.
Tried new machine & won't do anything. Not even recognize to install driver

Maybe stupid thought but check your usb-c slot, maybe something got inside
