OnePlus website: Data Theft - Query - OnePlus 5T Questions & Answers

Hey
Just wanted to check in and notify / see if anyone else has had issues with their OnePlus 5t purchase from the official Oneplus website?
I recently upgraded my 3t with a white 5t last week, using a credit card that I don't normally use (it's left in the house). Literally a day later, I get a call from my credit card company advising me they have blocked multiple attempted electrical purchases. My mobile phone number was also "reported stolen" at the same time, I assume to try and facilitate the credit card fraud. It appears as though I am not the only one who has experienced this issue, after buying direct off the Oneplus website.
There is a long thread on their 5t Community Forums named "Credit Card Fraud" with multiple folk being defrauded. (I can't post a link to the post yet, as I am a new-ish user )
Whilst I can not 100% say this is down to Oneplus, the balance of probability is that someone in their employee / contractor chain has potentially stolen customer details.
Just a heads up for those considering a direct purchase.

Thanks for the heads up. I found the thread you're referring to. The fraud seems to be spreading all over. I've always had fraud alerts enabled on all my accounts but just to be safe I checked all my cards and i'm good for now. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Why don't you use PayPal ?

Yeah I've used paypal with my Oneplus purchases. The company the money actually goes to is unknown to me.

It's the company owning 1+

Just seen the masses of Reddit posts on this issue. It looks big!

There's no employee involved in it. It's just a flaw OP has on site.

Oneplus is owned by BBK Electronics

My bank preactively deactivated my CC because I had bought from a merchant which had served other customers which became victims to fraud: OnePlus. I am now waiting for a new card to be issued, luckily I did not see any fraudulent transactions on my account.

I'm in the "club"
I saw this post earlier this week... Immediately I logged in and checked my credit card and saw that everything was OK.
Today, however, I got a message from my credit card warning me about a possible fraudulent activity which I didn't do. So... yes, happened to me also...
Thanks for the heads up!

Very very sad, paypal are completely useless, so much for buyer protection. its only 15 euros but its the principal, im going to let as many people know about this as possible, there shoudl be laws against people like this how is it in this day and age people can still hide behine the internets anonymity and "virtual items" loopholes.
So be WARNED AVOID HTCCODE.COM

Eh Dear, shame about that mate
if you gave sent the money as a gift they might be able to do something about it but other then that your boned!
If you have a hacker friend just point him at totalgsm.org and say the magic words,,,,, 'please yourself'
Use eBay to unlock your desire. The unlockers on there get about 99.8% positive feedback and your money will be protected. Plus it's cheaper than anywhere else. Why pay more?

i dont like any of these unlock sites, i would rather go to some guy in a dodgy phone shop.
if you read the terms and conditions on these sites, what is says is quite shocking.
in a nutshell you are buying a code, not a service to unlock your phone. so if the code doesn't unlock your phone, you just payed for a random number, literally.
Paypal is the expert on providing reasons to now help you, I have been on both ends (seller & buyer) and Paypal gave some reason in all cases not to help.
I've used HTCCODE.COM in the past and although communication hasn't been great, they've always come through eventually.
PM ferraripassion on these forums, as he is part of HTCCODE.COM and I'm sure he'll either give you your code or refund your money.
Regards,
Dave
You're quiet unlucky, as I did file a paypal dispute and won, got the whole of my money back and crossed the website of my agenda.
They didn't give your code cos they are all off their faces on your hard earnt moneez.
Selling a number is a scam in the first place IMO
I purchased the unlock using a credit card, and couldn't get the htccode unlock application to connect. I used the live support link on the website and an engineer took my IMEI number, and 10 minutes later I received my code via email which worked perfectly.
This is the second time I have used them successfully for different devices, and although I understand your frustration at not getting your code, you do not explain what went wrong in the first place to cause you to want to get a refund.
Categizoring a service as a scam due to a single failure does not seem representative to me; perhaps you can clarify what went wrong in the first place, and how you have tried to contact them as they were very responsive in my case, and anxious to receive good feedback.

They're actually charging £17.99 for the Desire.
EDIT: Sorry, they have multiple auctions for the same device all at different prices. How bizarre.
Hmm can anyone recommend any good sites then? I've heard Unlock Zone is a good safe site with very good feedback. Any other good and trusted sites to unlock?
I'm gonna say you were just unlucky/something went wrong. Paul O'Brien (who laid a fair share of the groundwork for rooting Desires) supports that site, as it's a sticky topic on his forum, and I trust that guy.

Request to add Amazon Payments to Donation links

It kinda sells itself, but after losing $350 due to someone receiving my item, Delivery confirmation confirming it and PayPal still refunding their money, I have decided to make the transition to other means of accepting payments.
They have a failsafe method like PayPal (link), and they charge no fees, without having to use an unsafe "gifting" method.
It wouldn't be too hard to implement, and it would help those of us who want a safe method to pay without the unfairness of paypal.
agreed. Haven't used paypal in a couple of years, except when using a CC without logging in. No way I'd ever give them a chance after I got shafted on an ebay sale...
Can you give an example link to donate?
At the moment the system uses an e-mail address to build a PayPal URL. I don't know the limitations of the plugin we used for this, nor if we can implement it, but this info might help.
Thanks
Dave
Sure, It is outlined here. You need an amazon account, but once signed in, you go here
I think it would help people hesitant of using PayPal and their corrupt practices. You send money for free, and you have a net to protect yourself.
I've heard you mention this before, just checked out the website and looks like a good, viable alternative.
Do you know if it's a worldwide thing, or just limited to the US? Amazon won't ship anything to Australia, so I'm assuming this won't work with an Australian credit card or bank account. I couldn't see much relating to International users.
I like that there's no fees involved turnaround time on withdrawing funds to bank accounts isn't too flash though

A shame, it looks a viable competitor to Paypal, and I'm sure many people would use it, given most people have bought from Amazon anyway.

If it were International I'd jump on it in a heartbeat. Very much over paying PayPal's ridiculous fees and losing both money and phones. I'm out about $1700 thanks to PayPal.

IMEI Blocked AFTER craigslist trade T-T

Hey guys, long time no post on XDA.
I traded my iPhone 4s and cash for a Galaxy s3, and I tested it with my simcard in it before the purchased (made a call, texted, etc.) and everything worked great.
I promptly restored it (Cyanogenmod was already installed) and wiped everything to get rid of his apps and pictures and stuff. Well ever since I wiped, and I go to make a call, I get this message:
"We're sorry but this device is blocked on this network."
I've googled and some people (on other devices) have said while running Cyanogenmod, their IMEI has changed to a blocked one.
Has anyone else ran into this? Did I by a stolen phone and it coincidentally stopped working after I flashed.
It sucks because my ONLY PHONE I traded to him AND cash. Hating life lol
Hate to say it.... but it sounds like you got scammed. Whenever buying a phone from someone, especially nowadays, you should ALWAYS do so at a brick and mortar location for your carrier so they can witness the sale of the phone. More than likely, after making the sale, he probably called AT&T or whichever carrier used, and told them that his phone was stolen. They blacklist the phone, and send him a replacement.
It ain't over till its over...!
My advice to you,
If you still have the sellers contact info (e.g. phone number, email address, etc...) go to the carrier store where the phone is from and tell them the story.
Although they will likely be less than helpful, get the names and/or business cards of the representatives that talked to you and write down what they say to you.
With that information, the call logs, text messages, emails, other incriminating evidence and public records listed for the contact information you have from the seller, you can take your issue to small claims court. The seller will be required to show up to court otherwise they will default to losing the case and the judge will side in your favor regardless.
Either way, if you go this route, you'll get back the monetary loss you incurred for the phone you traded, the cash you lost and the value of the blacklisted phone you received.
PSA - I have no knowledge or experience in Law what-so-ever and I am providing this advice simply as an opinion based on my observations of processes
Good luck,
Yeah, on the phone with customer support now, and that's exactly what he did.
They are letting me report mine stolen as well and giving me an early upgrade, but I'm out a phone and money on top T-T
Can't trust anyone these days.

It may take some work. I had a HTC one x for 7 weeks and got 3 replacements and had problems with them all. They gave me another early upgrade so 3 weeks ago I bought the s3. Yesterday they refunded me the full amount and charged me 96 cents. I did everything through the Web chat. Good luck.

You can still sell the phone on ebay as a "parts only" phone. Just make sure to add in the description what the problem is. I'm betting you'll get $200 or more for it.
Heck, I'll give you $50 right now.
Did you read all the IMEI threads?
I don't know anything about the issue, but I thought some folks were able to resolve it.

I used to do a bit of small claims stuff for a job a long time ago. Let me add a bit of information at least for California. Probably similar elsewhere.
While you can notify the person about the lawsuit and court date any way you want, if the person does not show up, you can not get a default judgement without proving that the other person knew about the lawsuit and court date.
You have to "serve" notice of the claim and court date on the person, which means needing a home or work address to do so. Basically have to prove to the judge that the person knows about the suit and court date. There are rules for who can serve notice and how it can be done. Has to be someone not related to the lawsuit and they have to file an affidavit with the court that they did reach the person and serve the notice. You see this in tv and the movies where the person will hand the papers and say "you've been served". The fee for that person who serves the notice can be included in the claim if it is someone who does it for a living.
The judgement itself doesn't mean automatically getting your money. Collecting on the judgement is a separate thing than getting it. The court just rules, they don't collect. There are several routes to collect, but it takes knowing things about the person. You can garnish wages, or put a lien on their real estate. Or do some other things. But without knowing where the guy works, it is not easy to collect and sometimes costs money to do so.
However, some people will pay upon hearing about the lawsuit. Others will pay it upon hearing about the judgement since it will show up on credit reports. May take some bluffing as well. In this case saying you'd take it to AT&T to support them claiming insurance fraud or something.
Overall, not a pleasant experience, and more time consuming than it seems. But for someone with the time and with enough of a loss, it may make sense.
That's a damn shame, now you gotta take a 2 year contract for no reason. At least he won't be able to use his phone though. Why can't they remove it from the list? Security reasons?
Does this apply to Canada?
I sold a iPhone 4 while still on contract with Fido, called them and told them it was stolen and all I got was too bad lol. I wasn't expecting anything mind you, and a Fido rep actually recommended told me to do this a week prior. I wasnt elegible for a upgrade (too soon on contract). This way, with the cash I made from selling I can pay for the early cancellation penalty, plus have extra for new phone on a new contract. I essentially got a iPhone 4S for free but on a new contract.
I didn't even know carriers helped you out if a phone got stolen. Mine is either in my pocket or in my hands so I don't have to worry about this anyways.
And if this does apply to Canada I will second guess buying from Kijiji or Craigslist. I've purchased so many phones in the past that this has me a little concerned.

you do realize you just admitted to scamming your carrier/the person you sold your phone to right? Even though your scam failed because your carrier was aware of your tactics, it doesn't mean you didn't attempt it.
you are the definition of an @sshole.
wouldnt this fall under theft by deception? I would consider a police report depending on the amount of cash

I never scammed the buyer you tart. Whether I told my carrier it was stolen or I gave my phone to my wife it wouldnt make a difference. With the money from selling I bought my way out of my contract and purchaced a new one. The fact that a Fido rep recommended me to do this goes to show this is not scamming
And I never attempted to get a free phone at all. Like I said, not sure if your able yo read properly but my intentions were never to get a free phone for nothing.

Uh oh protection is htc only, usa only. As to whether you will be entitled to something for not using it is up to htc.
If they clearly state that you are entitled to it then hold them to that and have it honoured. Contact their head office by letter stating your device, date of purchase, reasoning (ie a copy of the statement by htc that clearly states your entitlement) and a COPY of the receipt from when you bought it.

Interesting. HTC is still pimping it: http://www.htc.com/us/uh-oh-protection/?linkId=13475140
This is what the T&C say about the credit:
In the event You are eligible for UH OH Protection and do not utilize Your UH OH Repair/Replacement during the Warranty Period, You will be eligible to receive a credit of one hundred dollars ($100) toward Your next purchase of a HTC One M9 or future HTC One series device ("Credit"). You may be asked to present a valid proof of purchase and Your application must be completed and Credit redeemed during the Credit Redemption Period through www.htc.com/us/uh-oh-protection. Validation that You did not utilize Your UH OH Repair/Replacement during the Warranty Period will be a required step in the application process. Credit is only redeemable on HTC.com and may only be used for the purchase of a HTC One M9 or future HTC One series device. HTC reserves the right to create additional ways to apply for, receive, or utilize Credit at its sole discretion.

I wonder if they're waiting until anyone is eligible before declaring this "Credit Redemption Period" whatever it is? Could be they haven't decided on the unspecified "additional ways" yet. I can't believe they would just blow this off as it would be instant grounds for a class action lawsuit.

Htc are slow to respond in all cases. Usually 1 month for normal enquiries. I asked htc why the uh-oh protection only applies to the USA and Taiwan and have never got a response to it. Maybe because I accused them of favouritism due to needing help from the USA as China have claimed their hometown as their own So fearing invasion they need to keep USA sweet... No reply. Im not surprised as the USA wouldn't appreciate being bought and the friendship is an illusion..
Anyway, i digress.. Glad you got it. Quite jealous actually..

You could try visiting this link to redeem the $100 credit.
https://uhoh-cr.htc.com/
You will be eligible to receive a credit of one hundred dollars ($100) toward Your next purchase of a HTC One M9 or future HTC One series device
New HTC 10 isnt a "One" series, maybe they knew this, so your $100 will be going towards another M9 or an older One series
Once you claimed your $100 credit, could you let us know if it works for HTC 10 as well as it's not officially a "One" device.

I had to enter it a couple of times before it took. It also emailed me someone else's discount code instead of the one I got on the screen. I think their system is not ready for prime time.
Uh-Oh... You're About to Get Screwed!
The redemption link at uhoh-cr.htc.com said my phone is not eligible for the $100, so I got on HTC support chat for help.
Some background: my phone has been repaired twice for the well-documented vibration motor issue (not uh-oh related).
I was informed during my chat session that the second repair was accompanied by comments of "water damage" in the repair notes. Therefore, I am ineligible for the $100 credit. Of course, this alleged (and non-existent) water damage was not disclosed to me during or after the repair process.
I hope the rest of you that have had warranty repairs have better luck.
Sorry to revive this from the dead but I wanted to chime in and say that after a call and a few emails, I was able to successfully get my $100 off credit. Its kind of useless to me, however as it cannot be used to buy the HTC 10 which is already constantly on sale. It only works on items that arent already discounted. Makes my $100 off code less valuable to me.

Same issue here. Did you ever use up that credit?
I requested my code this time last year to use for HTC 10 but wasn't able to. Pretty much dissuaded me in getting the phone. Now the expiration is coming up and haven't had luck getting it extended. The rep said there would be a special promo discount for M9 users that would be available soon. BS?
I think so. I gave up and bought the M10 on sale for $500 and forgot about the credit. Super lame

Hopefully, I will find help here.
ADDED INFO:
- Phone was bought from a local shop which is an authorized Bell dealer. The phone was bought off contract at full price. The phone was not bought from Google Play Store
So since I've opened the case with Google Support (from the settings menu on the phone). It's been almost two week. Here's the rundown.
I’ve contacted them three times, I have to repeat the same issues over and over. Google Support confirmed me that they were a call center located in the Philippines.
-Call #1: Talked to Nate (amazing dude) said that he was going to print me the RMA to send the labels to my email. I have to send the phone first and then I'll get the replacement soon. There was a problem to produce my RMA labels. He said he will call me back with a solution. He called me back saying there was an issue will escalated the issue.
Waited 3 days
-Call #2: I contacted them another time since I didn’t get any updates since. They ask to verify my account by providing them the 4 last digits of my credit card? Again, repeat the same thing. They can't generate the RMA tag. The issue has been escalated since the day of the call.
-Call #3: They asked me the IMEI of my Nexus 5 (lol what ?)... Again guy can't generate the tag. The issue has been escalated since a while now. I’m super sad.
- Chat session #1 and #2: Talked with a supervisor says he will get back to me with a solution. Sent me two emails, then silence. Same deal.
So far… very disappointed with Google. I mean, I didn’t buy it from the Google Play store, but I was expecting some premium level of customer service at that price tag. Hell, I could walk into a Apple or Samsung store and get it replaced.
I cannot believe that I'm getting this kind of service from a company like that.
UPDATE of January 30th
- Label was finally processed on January 24th
- Phone was shipped on January 25th
- Google received my Pixel on January 27th
- Google Shipping department confirmed they approved the replacement, I should expect my shipping tag in 1 -2 business days.[/I]
UPDATE of February 07
- I did not receive my phone. I have many exchanges with Google but nothing sent out yet. Just support saying its 'in process or has been escalated'
I feel the same way when I try and chat amazon support. I work in tech support for the other A company so I know how to be clear and simple when contacting support. I tell them my issue and provide ant details they will need like my order number. They respond back asking for my order number..
Don't ever use email or chat with Amazon. Call them. It's not easy to find the number on their site but its there. BTW, their # 1 (888) 280-4331
To the OP, if you didn't buy from Google did you buy from VZ? If not, where did you get it? If not an authorized seller, that may be your problem.
Just curious, what is the problem with the phone?

Why do you think you will find help here? This is XDA not Google. Something is missing in your story and I'm not sure what it is. I'm also not sure what Apple and Samsung have to do with this. Or then again...

I'm looking to see if others did an RMA with a non-Google Play purchased phone to sum it up. Also, if they had the same troubles that I got.

Massive burn-in on the three softkey buttons. I can see them everywhere except the home screen. Indeed, I bought the phone from a local shop downtown which isn't Verizon.
I hate I have to ask this... but is it real? I mean buy a super popular phone from a random vendor for all we know the guy could have dropped it in the toilet then repackaged, could be flipping damaged units from ebay, **** there might even be fake ones idk. The point is without a vendor we know anything about it's hard to say with certainty that it is google's fault.

Well that clears it up a bit. You might want to go down to your local shop and demand a refund or open a BBB case against them if they refuse. I, personally, have never seen a local shop selling a Pixel or an XL. Why would you do that? Nonetheless, you can't blame Google, as you did in the OP, if they won't warranty a third party sale. Apple would repair and replace it for free? I think not.
Regardless of where it was purchased, Google should back up their hardware as it still has a Manufacturer's warranty. Besides, Google themselves already took responsibility of the replacement in the first call with Nate.
This is somewhat pathetic customer support.

It's 100% legit. The phone isn't a cheap Chinese knockoff. I verified the model number with my friend and they both match. Google says there is no problem with the warranty of the phone just it can't generate the shipping labels for me to send back the device.

I will try to contact the local shop where it was originally purchased but it's past the 30 days warranty. I bought this phone second hand and the previous owner has been a real gentleman by constantly providing me info and receipts one his purchase. It has been 3 weeks, and he's still contacting me to know if the issue as been resolved. The local shop is an authorized Bell dealer and carries the Google Pixel XL and Pixel. He bought it off contract, full price.
I dunno why you get so fired up with this, I'm not dishing anything on Google, I'm just trying to find someone with the same issue. Plus, even if let's the phone has "something" wrong with it... 2 weeks and no answer from a company is unacceptable. Also, why I purchased from secondhand? Because I've saved over 500$ instead of purchasing it through Google Play store because here in Canada they go for 1207.05$ with taxes.

I agree. But even if I call them up, it's still the same discussion over and over. I can't even escalate this issue, I don't know where to find a mailing address for it.
Something still just doesn't seem right. Not generating a shipping label is no reason to not have an RMA number. (wow triple negative) Meaning you should have an rma number nonetheless. Ship it yourself at that point. I don't believe they ever had a return authorization for you which is why you are now stuck with the device. Second, you bought it from a Bell authorized store yet you have the contact of the original seller? So this store sells second hand / used phones? What the heck kind of store does that, a consignment store? It's time to either realize that you have a defective device and live with it (after all you did save $500) or contact the store and/or seller for a refund. I believe Google has figured out what happened and will not support a second hand device. Could be wrong and you will magically have some luck but I wouldn't count on it. That's why they are avoiding your calls.
I had this problem with the first gen Moto 360, I bought it off Amazon but apparently not from Amazon and they wouldn't repair a screen defect under warranty. They verified it was genuine but they wouldn't fix it.

Google warrants that a new Phone (including any ancillary parts that may be packaged with it) will be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal use in accordance with Google’s published user documentation for one year from the date of original retail purchase in its original packaging by you. If a Phone has been refurbished, Google warrants that the Phone (including any ancillary parts that may be packaged with it) will be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal use in accordance with Google’s published user documentation for ninety days from the date of retail purchase by you (these warranties are collectively referred to as our “Limited Warranty”).
This Limited Warranty is only valid and enforceable in locations the Phone is sold and will apply only if you purchased your Phone from Google or its authorized resellers. This Limited Warranty only applies to hardware components (and not any software elements) of the Phone, and this Limited Warranty does not apply to damage caused by normal wear and tear, accidents, misuse (including failure to follow product documentation), neglect, disassembly, alterations, servicing other than by Google authorized technicians, and external causes such as, but not limited to, water damage, anomalies in the electrical current supplied to the device, and extreme thermal or environmental conditions. This Limited Warranty does not guarantee that use of the Phone will be uninterrupted or error free.

Based upon this it seems to me that used devices aren't covered under warranty, there's no mention of transfer of warranty that I can find in the document though local laws may govern here. I could imagine things would be even more dire if a phone was purchased within the US and sold outside of it.
Time to get your money back. Maybe the original owner can get it fixed and then sell it back to you. Good luck.

I think you're out of luck. Google can rest on its warranty fine print.

It's a simple fact Google is no apple but have the nerve to charge the same price. Wannabe apple!
I've had issues with Google before and have lost confidence in their customer services.
Keep pestering them until they sort out even write to them. Speak to manager demand to speak to managenent, it's completely unexceptable ignoring your issue.

He did not buy it from an authorized dealer. He is SOL. Check the warranty. It sucks for him but no one here can help him. He needs to work with the seller, not Google. The warranty was violated. That's game over from a Google perspective.

Apple would not do anything different than what Google did. Don't kid yourself. They also have a right to sell their phones for whatever price they want. You don't like it, don't buy it. We got spoiled with the older devices but that ship has sailed. The OP needs to realize he got screwed in order to save a few hundred bucks. It was a gamble that he lost.

You can walk into Apple store whether you bought it from your uncle or an alien, as long as it's not reported stolen and within warranty your issue will be resolved.
Google is a bit of a joke simple as that, btw I'm an android fan but not a fanboy of any particular company. I just don't like people being ripped off.

Really? Walk right in and get an exchange? You mean after you have to schedule with a "genious"? So I make my appointment and they run the IMEI and find it has a block? Think they will replace it? You may not like the Google warranty but you accepted it when you purchased the phone. I know most don't read it but that is Google's fault?
And what does the OP think anyone here can do to help him except to suggest he take it back? They saved some money and now he has a problem. Saving money is great but it comes with a risk.
