Well i just got a brand new Moto Z2 Force and as I was setting up, i noticed the WiFi connection stopped working from time to time. I thought it was mi WiFi network, but issue was persistent on any WiFi network. I bought it on December 30, 2017
What I have done so far:
- Restore to its factory settings (didn't solve the problem)
- Update software 7.1 (didn't solve the problem)
- I took it to the carrier I bought it from, (They kept it for 12 hours to monitor its issue) (didn't solve the problem)
They told me, since its not a carrier issue, I should contact Motorola directly.
- I called Motorola support, and they told me that the phone needs to be sent to be repaired. Since its a common issue regarding WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, what really pissed me off, was the word "repair", i explained that, why I should get a repaired/refurbished phone, since i pay full for a new phone and they explained that, thats how Motorola respect their "warranties". Repairing a defective device.
Since I live in Mexico, warranties here are a big pain in the ...
I know carriers in the US, have a 15 or 30 day, hassel-free return policy. But in Mexico, once you take it out of the box, its your problem.
Im pretty annoyed since I have the Moto Z Play and this phone works perfectly, thats why I went for the newer Motorola. Since I know how Motorola respects their warranty im never buying a Motorola again.
UPDATE
After going back and forth, the carrier decided that was a DOA phone and gave me a brand new one. I'm been using it for a week now and no issue whatsover.
Just some bluetooth disconnections from time to time, but i can live with that hoping for a software update fix.
Hi there!, calm down, i'm here to save you, but first off, i'm form Mexico too, and yeah, thw warranty here is some kinda tricky, but with Telcel you got the option between 30 days after the purchase to get a new one. But whatever, that time passed already.
Ok, first, tell me if you got the next issues:
Sudden disconnections
Horribly and stupid process to connect after a "breakdown" happens.
When you were connected (Luckiest thing ever), did you noticed that sometimes the speed goes like ZERO kb/s, it tooks like years to load an HD video form youtube?
If your phone shows all these sympthoms, welcome to hell, and i got some good news for you, the problem is not 100% the phone, for some reason, this problem starts when you update all the stuff form Play Store. So the phone is "physically" OK.
If you want further assistance you can send me a PM with your phone number, i'll be in touch shortly.
I'm glad to help you.
He’s not the only one with this problem. Would love to know your miracle solution!
I also have the same problem but it works PERFECTLY with 5 GHz Wi-Fi AC. Take a new wifi router

OT - I'm sorry, but this smacks of a scam. You don't need a phone number for anything, and if you have a fix, post it for others to use. What could be so secret as to warrant a PM.
I have had WiFi drops / performance issues with other devices with the same chipset, and it was fixed splitting the 5 and 2.4 into separate WiFi connections.

Hi there, first off, you have to turn on the phone in Secure mode - Long press "shut down" and then accept to turn on the Phone in secure mode.
Then, you have to test the wifi functions in this mode, if everything works fine, the problem it's not something about the HW of the Moto Z2 Force, but the problem it's a process which is causing this wifi disconnections, slow wifi etc..
Now you have to identify which process i scausing this, if you ask me, i've found that Google Play Services i scausing the problems, so i've tried many different versions and now it's working great, no wifi disconnections, FULL speed, and no other problems.
Let me know if i can help you out with more information, sometimes it's hard to write through a phone jaja.

Wanting to file class action lawsuit
Well it's as plain as I can make it; after attempting to contact support for help with my Z2 Force's WiFi issues; which go figure I find out is a known issue since DAY 1. They won't fix it because the warranty ended 11/18/2018. I explained I found over 17 pages on just Lenovo's website of issues and Motorola and Lenovo did nothing. They still won't do anything they want 150$ to look at it and then they may give me a replacement z2 force. I've had enough I am starting the process of a class action lawsuit against Motorola; and Lenovo and I wanted others to reach out to me. If you've had issues please contact me. Thanks
Rob
My s z2force (1789 05) sometimes disconnects the network (including wifi). When playing games, it is usually used. I feel that this is not a big problem. I was on a lg v30. This problem is more serious.

Ok this started last night, tablet has been working flawlessly for the last 6 months or more.
What happened was, I wasn't able to use the Internet. Just wasn't working. And every 20 seconds or so it would flash up at the bottom of the screen "connected to (my router)".
So I turned wifi off and on, which usually fixed connection issues, but didn't help. I also restarted router, even though my computer and my phone isn't having any issues.
So then I went to the wifi settings screen to see if there was any way to reset networks. What I saw was this:
If i turn wifi toggle on and watch the screen, it would scan for networks, find the list... Couple seconds pass... Then the toggle would switch itself off and back on! And then it would start looking and finding networks again, and then off and on, and etc etc.
I have tried a factory reset and cache reset.
I have also downloaded the 4.4.2 stock rom and installed using odin for a totally new install.
Still does it.
Any suggestions? Seems very strange. It's under warranty but it seems like an odd hardware fault, seems more like software but I dunno.
Help me xda, you're my only hope.
I've been searching the Internet all day trying to find someone else havin this problem... But I seem to be the only one. And noone seems to have any suggestions.
At the moment I'm having to consider a warranty dispute, but that means however many days/weeks without the tablet which I use on a daily basis.
Not ideal Samsung.

Hey. I had the EXACT same problem. Even made a video of it and showed it to the service point personell. Turning on off on again and again, it also displays in the settings the switch just switches itself without any action of mine. It was a hardware defect. send it in and get a new one, better than being annoyed by it. Mine did it on a 5-10sec interval length...

Yeh mines probably every 5-10 seconds...
So this is definitly a hardware fault? In which case I'll have to get in touch with john lewis and hope they will do an exchange in store. If it involves having to send it off to samsung and waiting for it..
Anyway thanks for replying to the question, shame it wasn't better news haha!

yeah sorry to be the one to tell you this is a faulty device but it seems like this unit ain't free of errors and there quality control is somewhat sketchy.
Which android version are you running? I am asking because I run kitkat and also have relatively ****ty battery life. I use it for university so I have the screen on and write notes during lectures. Usually it lasted 7-8hours but for about a week or two it now only lasts 4-5 hours of screen time which is really ****ty.
I read somewhere that this might be a motherboard issue and if it is it might be somewhat corellated to our wifi problem. In my case they replaced the wifi module and gave me back my "old" device but this is having bad battery life so I am thinking about sending it in (again). I did however root so I would have to make use of the warranty provided by the seller, not samsung itself, since my knox is tripped.
(in Germany the sellers also must provide 6months - 2 years of warranty and there was a judgement in Europe that rooting must not have any influence on wether your device still is under warranty or not. sadly this only applies to the warranty provided by the seller, not the manufacturer)
Is your BT on and are you connected to a 2.4 GHZ network?
If so, turn off BT
I get random WiFi disconnects and reconnects from 2.4 GHZ networks when BT is on but not connected. Though, Ive never noticed the wifi switch going off and on.
I am running 4.4.2 or whatever, kitkat anyway.
Bluetooth is off, I never use it on my tablet. I dunno what network type I'm running, might be N or might be B/G, but whatever it is it what it has been for months as I havent changed any router settings lately.
I have restarted the router twice already in case this was a network problem, but the network wouldn't cause the wifi to toggle off and on, it would just cause disconnects etc. Least I assume so. I may try this just in case but like I said the network type hasn't changed lately
John Lewis are saying they won't exchange it, it will have to be sent off to Samsung for "repair". Meaning I'll probably get sent back a refurbished second hand one with a dodgy light bleed screen, as I expect they have hundreds of those lying around now.
Oh and it'll be up to 28 days. For a premium and expensive device that's less than 6 months old this just isn't good enough.

I had mine replaced as well but dont remember wether I got a new one or just my old one repaired... should have written down the IMEI I guess :-/
you're from Bristol, don't the EU rights apply there? If so your retailer should be obliged to replace or repair the device.

Anyways my replacement was done through Samsung and it took 6 days. But then again idk differences between UK and Germany...

hi, guys!!
This is my first post where I will show you how to fix the
Auto shutdown problem until we get an official fix from
Sony.
Let's start:
Go to the Dial pad and type*#*#3646633#*#*
This will take you to engineer mode
Now go to Bandmode>SIM1 and unthick EGSM900, GSM850, WCDMA-GLR-850, WCDMA-GSM-900.
Now click set and that's it.
You may experience worse reception in places with bad reception but atheist you will be able to use your phone, that's why it's a temporary fix. I have been using this method for one month and it has worked.
I'm not an expert so if I am wrong in something please correct me ?
I forgot to mention that if you have 2 SIM card repeat the process on the second one
Just FYI, there's already an official fix, it's going to a Service Center to get your faulty battery replaced by a newer one without the issue. If you unit was manufactured in 2016 then you already have the new battery and are exempt from the issue, if you got your unit in 2015 and are experiencing random shutdowns, the warranty should cover you...

I said units manufactured in 2016, not units bought in 2016 (e.g. there's still a small chance of getting an unit from an old stock manufactured in 2015 even if you buy it nowadays, depending of the store/seller/etc). Taking into consideration that you got your unit in January and also have the issue, it's pretty likely to be from an old stock of units manufactured in 2015. You can check the exact manufacturing date by looking at the sticker present inside the SIM/SD card compartment, mine for example marks 16W04 (aka "manufactured in the fourth week of 2016") and doesn't have the issue, I never experienced a single shutdown, not even when doing the testing procedure to check if the unit was affected by Battery Lock issue.
Hi. Its Dk.
I am the one originaly posted those soltution on xda and gsm arena.
In real, if you get the battery replaced, you will suffer from permanent overheating and slow charging. Also, it takes 3 weeks to replace the battery by freaking noob sony service centers.
It also aplies on the phone manufactured newly
Now i am tryng the new way and its been working 6hours without shutdown and turning off frequency.
Be patient, after organizing, I will post the new way

I guess you are in good network condition, full of signal strength , even wifi.
Then you wont feel anything from this problem... and the shutoff problem is not only on m5,
almost every sony xperia series. even z5.
and basically, the phone turns off because of supply voltage. its rare to happen on battery as worldwidly.

When your signal completely drops, you wont have overheat and shutdown. Because the phone wont even try to get the good signal.
But when you have subtle signal strength, the story changes.
CuZ the phone stays in the idle state for better signal strength.
Im testing with fast dormancy disabling. But not sure yet.

As a person who personally owned a Xperia M and is now owning a Xperia M5 and that also had close contact with Xperia S, Xperia U, Xperia C, Xperia ZL, Xperia E3, Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3+ I can safely say that what you're claiming here is bullsh*t. There's one operator in my neighborhood that always have very poor signal (never more than one or two bars in network indicator) and those models I mentioned earlier NEVER shut off at those conditions, at maximum they got a little warm during huge data transfers (e.g. downloading/uploading a big file over mobile data) and nothing more.
Particularly with Xperia M5, there's the now known battery lock issue (even Sony officially acknowledged this). If your unit was from an earlier batch (generally manufactured in 2015), it may randomly shut off, not because of supply voltage, but because of RF interference: the battery on those models has poor shielding, which triggers the issue (you can get a free battery replacement just by going into service center, which will completely fix this issue on affected units). However, if your unit was from the new batch, manufactured in 2016, you're totally exempt from this issue. My unit, for example, was manufactured in 2016 and it never shut off randomly, nor it triggered battery lock issue (I can do the official testing procedure thousands of time and it always pass without issues). To be honest, until now I've never encountered any user with a Xperia M5 unit manufactured in 2016 having this issue.
And if it this "shut off due poor signal" issue you're claiming REALLY happens on "almost every Xperia series" why I can't find not only a single complaint when going into the forums of other Xperia devices, here at XDA?

GSM Arena isn't the world either. But since you've mentioned GSM Arena, let's talk about GSM Arena, going into User Opinions about Xperia M5 you can see lot's of posts complaining about random shutdown (the known battery lock issue) but all of them made in 2015 (in other words, users from the first batch, which had the RF interference problem). You can't find a single post from 2016 about battery lock issue. And continuing on GSM Arena, I also visited User Opinions from the phones I mentioned earlier and didn't find anyone complaining about random shutdowns like you've claimed.
So, yes, what you've said before still makes no sense, like I said before, bullsh*t...

Hey mate. Then you think battery lock issue is separated from autoshutting down?
So 2016 manufactured phone has got something different other than battery.
But i think battery gets locked because of autoshutting down. Since my phone does show different battery percentage when autoshutdown happens.
And if 2016 manufactured phones have replaced battery, why would i see somebody still gets the problem after they have replaced their battery?
Its may of 2016 already.
So to finalize it, we can guess few situations.
1. Replacing phone battery only works in certain region. Which means sony hasnt fixed the problem.
Or
2. Its not battery issue. Sony put something else in new manufacturing.
3. Those comments are lying to disturb sony's income.
So its the why i cant trust your opinion that 2016 phones dont have the problem.
Thanks.

So i change the battery and is working pretty well, i have two weeks without auto shutdown problem.
PD: My terminal was bring from China.

Greetings,
Today I have received my replacement Samsung S9+ from Vodafone (old one had a big scratch on the screen although it was new and sealed) only to realise that this one might also be faulty.
The speakers have an extremely distorted/crackling sound, regardless of what sound it plays (Ringtone, alarm, YouTube, Spotify etc).
Now comes the weird part...
When I leave the phone on its own for basically 10-15 minutes, it turns to normal. After some usage of 10-15 minutes, it goes back to distorted/crackled state.
Another thing is that when I checked the hardware information through two different applications (Samsung Phone INFO and SamMobile Device Info), the sound chip/card section seems empty.
Things I have tried: Start in safe mode, factory reset.
The software is also up to date.
I would appreciate any help. Thank you in advance.
Definitely seems like an electrical problem in the phone. The electronics are definitely changing power usage between "at rest" and "active" modes so it doesn't seem completely surprising that letting the phone rest for awhile would allow capacitors to drain some of their excess charge.
In any case, I'd hope if you can demo this defect to your carrier at their store, you should be able to get a 3rd, and hopefully final, new/refurb (ugh) phone out of this mess. Just really bad luck in your case
I think it's best for you to take back the phone or take it to a phone repair service. This seems like a hardware issues which needs to be fixed.

If you just got it from a retailer, return it to the store and get another. If not, call Samsung. This is not something that's supposed to be happening.
ohhhh thankyou thanky for replying.... actually these phones are too much expensive in our country so i asked my friend who lived in dubai to buy me one, thats how i bought it so, i just wanned to know if it can be fixed by software because sometimes i get very loud and clear sound ...... if its a hardware problem then im done with samsung ...... but thank you so much for replying
I received this phone on 1st July and today, 27th July, it just died on its own. Recently the camera module became wobbly and whenever the phone vibrates it rattles a lot.
Well, an hour ago i sent a whatsapp message to my friend, put the phone down, after a minute i picked it up to check, and lo and behold, it cant turn on anymore. It cant be battery issue because i know it had a more than 50% charge. I tried plugging in the charger and switching it on but it still doesn't work.
Called up Flipkart.com to claim my Mobile phone protection insurance . They will pick it up for repair. Hope all things goes well.
However, i am still unsure about the Swivel camera module. Dont know if it will hold up anymore seeing how it became loose so quickly. I trusted Asus, not anymore....
I made a youtube video showing its wobbly camera.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Rf24NTMS_o
Asus 6z dead
Mine is also dead, it went into a boot-loop. The wobbly camera is not an issue though its common to all devices, even reviewers have addressed this.
Flipkart just declined my request for a replacement, I went to the service center and they have told me that if it is a software issue then they will flash the new software or else they will give me a replacement.

Guys it started working again, out of nowhere.
Your video is unavailable so I can't tell if your camera is rattling more than mine. They should've implemented some kind of a lock when camera is not used and used a rubber coating or something in that camera hole so it would be at least quiet.

Was your ZF6 rooted?
How much did you tune your ZF6?
Have you played with the developer settings?
This is why you never buy stuff made in China!

This happened to me too a few times. Fine one minute and the next screen will stay black. Pressing power does not do anything. You can not bott, restart you phone because nothing happens.
I am rooted and use xposed, custom kernel so I will not bother with Asus' service
What has worked for me every time is taking out the sim/SD card tray. Then powering on works.
my phone also died
This also happened to my zenfone 6 on the 28th June. Completely unresponsive (and removing the SIM tray didn't change anything). I bought it from Gearbest, who have agreed to replace it, but I'm still waiting, with no ETA so far. I loved the phone while it worked, so I'm a bit disappointed. BTW, if you don't need a selfie cam, a bit of silicone glue solves all the camera issues

It was just an user error (as with many other reported bugs), no device died:

Aren't you just using the Nova Prime Launcher and ASUS gestures instead of classic Navigation Bar? That could be a culprit of strange behaviour.

I was using stock standard software. The phone had been on the charger overnight, and in the morning was dead - no response to pressing any combination of power and volume buttons. I followed a set of recovery instructions from gearbest, nonw of which worked, and then they asked me to return the phone.
I know there are many people waiting for this phone to be released, or shipped, and they're wondering what the holdup is?
I think Asus built themselves a lemon. While it looks cool, and has some decent specs, and many people want one, the fact is that many of those who already received theirs are sending them back because of semi-major issues and even complete failures of the device! So I think the delay in availability is Asus scrambling to get this thing fixed before it becomes a complete flop, assuming it hasn't already! I know that my interest has basically died and I will not even consider this phone until I read that many have the phone in hand and ALL the major bugs have been squashed!

Using a different launcher should not brake the phone.

Sure.
I didn't say it would damage or break the phone, or that the phone would die. It's not even a third-party launcher error, but an ASUS gesture error that, in combination with some changes in developer settings (scaling), can cause the non-standard behavior of the launcher. This can surprise the inexperienced user and he or she may consider the phone broken. Like it was with Animation scale bug a few updates before.

I regularly attend discussion forums in several European countries about ZF6. I have encountered one case where a child threw a ZF6 into a mother's pool and one user who had one SW problem after another and constantly spammed the forum. But these problems were not device errors, but his ignorance of ZenUI and pure Android. Eventually, he bought a phone from a manufacturer he had been used to for years, and finally there is peace in the forum now.
Here at XDA it is different, most of the pseudo problems are endlessly discussed by those who have never held the ZF6 and fatal problems affect users mostly from an unnamed Asian country. Poor users from the same country most often complained about my previous Xiaomi Mi A1 with Android One about missing MIUI (!) and about slow updates (despite the fact that we have had regular monthly updates). Anyone can make his own conclusion. Most users do not deserve to use a smartphone at all because its complexity often exceeds their capabilities.
Then there are UK users complaining about slow filling of warehouse in stores and USA users who complain that the ZF6 is not on sale in their country yet.
I'm involved in the ZF6 user community in my country, and as far as I know none of them have had any fatal problem yet.
ASUS has only one problem, it did not expect such an interest and does not manage to produce in such quantity.

This is your personal pure and false speculation.
just too popular
I also think the number of actual incidences of broken zenfone 6 reports are very few, say less than 10, which is about par for the course in a new phone, and I think I've just been unlucky. The real problem here is that the phone is almost exactly what everyone has been wanting, and so every batch delivered to the retailers almost immediately sells out. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to getting my replacement, which can't come soon enough.

Actually, a friend of mine had changed a few settings from the developer options to make the phone faster. I don't remember the exact setting but after that the phone was dead.
But, the service center has fixed that issue and replace the camera also. The service center returned me the phone within 3 days (here at Pune, Maharashtra, India).

Classical tinkering with a new phone without proper knowledge. So it was user error.
"to make the phone faster" as if ZF6 is not fast enough...
Hi guys,
I bought my Mi 9SE some months ago. Everything was good, but since like two months ago my phone signal dropped to 0. The phone was unable to connect, and it wasn't a problem of APN or SIM because i tried another SIMs and the problem persists. Suddendly, one day the signal started to work again a few hours, and then go off again. Sometimes it works for days, even a week, and then drop to 0 again hours or days. But after that, Wifi started to malfunction too, like it was forcibly disabled. I can't start wifi, and if i try the phone freezes a few seconds.
The weird thing is that those two problems happens like randomly: for example, if i keep the phone on standby for a few hours, wifi start to work again, but if i use it again, it fails again after some use. Same goes to phone signal, some days it works and the suddendly stop functionaning.
I sended to Xiaomi already and they send it back to me because they coulnd't find a problem (Because the problem just happens randomly i suppose).
I don't know what to do, so i'm thinking on unlock bootloader and install a rom. What do you think? I will put here two videos of my phone that shows the problem:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1gY8FqJWV_RwDR2u-KQHYU-pHt2d6yEXa
Thanks.
Hi,
I would suggest to try a different ROM. The wifi issue you have (saw the video) is generally related to wifi drivers. Now i can't say why your driver is malfunctioning without logs, especially for a stock ROM...
Good luck!
@ch4mi: wouldn't do so, because it seems to be a hardware problem and with unlocked BL you open an escape door denying service. Maybe it's caused by an antenna loosing connection by temperature. So switch it off overnight for a definite begin state, boot and look, whether the bug occurs after a certain time. Repeat it 2times. Then send it back to service with this information.
Thanks for your replys people!
I don't know if i can trust with Xiaomi Service. I already sended it like i said, and they said to me that the phone was perfect, and charged me 25€ for shipping costs... I writted to them again saying that the phone was still malfunctionating, but the only said to me that they will proceed like always, check phone and if they don't find any issue, i will pay again 25€ for shipping costs... That's why i'm thinking of change ROM.
@ch4mi: the shipping costs are mean indeed. I hoped they would be willing to repair - then such a clue would have been usefull.
Ok guys, i will send it to the Xiaomi service again, with some videos proving the issues. Thanks for your tips!
