do i need s-off for flashing custom rom? - One (M9) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey. i am going to install twrp, root my device, unlock bootloader, install custom rom. do i need s-off for this? or i can do it with s-on? thanks

You only need to unlock the bootloader at htcdev.com, flash twrp and then you know what to do
First make sure you have latest firmware(4.xx.SKU.xx).

[Q] Still S-Off after flashing RUU in bootloader

Hi guys.
I used to run a custom ROM on my DHD. I recently upgraded to the sensation and flashed official RUU back onto my DHD incase I sold it.
It's version 2.50xx. When I boot into bootloader it still says 'S-off' in top of the screen 'PVT ace s-off etc...'
Seeing that I cant flog it, I wondered because it's S-off can I rename a recovery to PG58IMG and install a recovery, then after this just put a custom ROM on SD card and flash it through recovery as that will already be rooted?
Thank you guys, I hope someone can help a noob out =)
EDIT: As SOON as I posted this I found the answer. My apologies. Moderators please delete thread. My bad
Flash the 1.32.405.6 and the follow the "Reverting to stock" steps in the first post of this thread.

Bootloader unlocked but S-ON:S:S

Hello
I've just unlocked the bootloader of my wildfire s. But when I boot into HBOOT it says
UNLOCKED
S-ON
How do I get S-OFF.
I used the methode of htcdev.com and nothing went wrong.
Can anyone help me to get it S-OFF
Max
And yes I know that you don't suppost to put questions here but where I need to put I can't find.
Sorry if I get people angry
when you unlock bootloader using htcdev, it doesnt make it s-off
your device will still be s-on but the bootloader is unlocked
jes I know. But how do I get it now S-off so I can flash a custom revovery. Because it won't do that now.
Says CID isn't correct or invalid when I trie to flash one.
You can flash Alquez's unofficial clockwork mod recovery with no problems.

Xtc clip is the only way to get s-off right now.

Don't worry mate. You can install custom recoveries and roms on your phone even if it's an Unlocked S-ON. Mine's on Unlocked S-ON too. Currently using alquez' CM7 and CWM Recovery.
Go!
you should flash it with fastboot or there are auto installers for that, just search the forum

Installing OTA - noob questions

I'm on stock 1.54.401.10, rooted, s-off and with twrp.
I'd like to go to stock recovery to install OTA.
Need answers for some questions first:
What do I need to install update?
I know about recovery, do I need to relock bootloader?
Also there was an issue with custom hboots on m7, so can I relock bootloader, update software, etc, if I don't have red text during boot? Gone after using firewater.
Not sure if this is related, just want to be sure, I won't brick my phone during update.
Or maybe it is better to flash firmware and newer rom manually?

With stock recovery and stock rom you can install official updatea, no need for relocking bootloader.
Because you're s-off you can also do it manually, see this post.

[HELP] what to do? No Rom installed, S-ON and stock recovery

Hi guys, so the owner wiped everything from the phone and he want it back to stock now
S-ON and no custom recovery installed,
I've googled for a method to turn S-OFF but they all require a rooted ROM. what to do?
thanks in advance.
I have answered how to s-off and root Desire HD before in many threats. You can see this post.
You can also check here a newest guide. In this guide as I think you are installing a prerooted rom instead of unlocking bootloader with htc_devs unlock and flashing custom recovery to root the device.
You can check an other helpful guide here.

S-Off, TWRP and Root, now what?

Saw the related topics to this, but none of them answer my question. I already S-Off and unlocked my bootloader, installed TWRP and flashed SuperSU 2.65, but I don´t know if i have to do supercid or however is it called? Because I want to install custom rom and I don´t know If i have to do something else with this system to actually install a custom ROM like Lineage OS
