Hello
I've just unlocked the bootloader of my wildfire s. But when I boot into HBOOT it says
UNLOCKED
S-ON
How do I get S-OFF.
I used the methode of htcdev.com and nothing went wrong.
Can anyone help me to get it S-OFF
Max
And yes I know that you don't suppost to put questions here but where I need to put I can't find.
Sorry if I get people angry
when you unlock bootloader using htcdev, it doesnt make it s-off
your device will still be s-on but the bootloader is unlocked
jes I know. But how do I get it now S-off so I can flash a custom revovery. Because it won't do that now.
Says CID isn't correct or invalid when I trie to flash one.
You can flash Alquez's unofficial clockwork mod recovery with no problems.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1213229
Xtc clip is the only way to get s-off right now.

Don't worry mate. You can install custom recoveries and roms on your phone even if it's an Unlocked S-ON. Mine's on Unlocked S-ON too. Currently using alquez' CM7 and CWM Recovery.
Go!
you should flash it with fastboot or there are auto installers for that, just search the forum

I'm trying to root my girlfriend's T-mobile HTC Wildfire S properly like I did with my HTC Sensation. Switching views from Sensation forums, Wildfire S is very hectic and chaotic. There are not any clear and organized post that list the steps.
Questions:
1.) Is it possible to root, s-off, and unlocked bootloader for T-mobile US HTC Wildfire S?
2.) I read many post where you can s-off the phone but bootloader remained locked and vice versa. Why can you s-off with one method and then unlock bootloader with another?
3.) Just to make sure. If the phone is unlocked with bootloader but S-on, can we start flashing custom ROMs? What about if the phone is S-off and bootloader is locked, can we flash custom ROMs then?
Thank you in advance, any help will be very considerate!
YES in both cases
S-on + bootloader unlocked, you can flash custom roms.
S-off + bootloader locked, you can flash custom roms.
In both cases you need custom recovery, clockwork mod etc.

Great! Can you actually guide me =D
Do you prefer me to Unlock bootloader before s-off or vice versa? Can you tell me what you did? It'll help soooo much. In addition, do 4ext Recovery work?
Once s-off, download clockwork recovery from alquez thread in development section.
Place the file PG76IMG.zip in the root of your SD.
Power off your phone, pull battery, replace battery, hold volume down + power to enter hboot,
Wait for file to be found and it will ask if you wanna update, click yes (volume up I think) then reboot your phone.
Note: you will need to delete the custom recovery file or move it from the root of your SD.
Now download root.zip just search within the wildfire s forums and you'll find it.
Note 2: once rooted you could install rom manager and install official clockwork recovery.

Where would unlocking bootloader fit in to this? What method did you use to s-off?
If your s-off no need to unlock the boot loader as the security is turned off.
If you haven't achieved s-off then unlocking the boot loader will allow you to flash roms and/or custom recovery, but you will not be able to upgrade radio or hboot.
I gained s-off with an xtc clip.

You can unlock your bootloader by following the appropriate steps at htcdev.com/bootloader
I guess, to turn S-OFF on, you'll need XTC-Clip. Go for the bootloader method - easier.
Edit: I don't know about the safety part

Alright, to make this clear. You can't have both is the bottom-line. BUT, it is possible with an XTC-Clip.
Questions:
1.) So if I choose to s-off, what benefits do I loose from NOT unlocking bootloader? Vice versa.
2.) Do you prefer to have the phone with an unlocked bootloader or s-off? Since I can't have both.
OK there is currently no software to give full s-off. Full s-off allows to flash to the full nand including radio images and different hboots.
Htcdev unlocked boot loader is software done, and has fastboot commands enabled. But can not write to all of the nand, meaning it won't flash radios and downgraded hboots.
You can have both, but you need to get a xtc clip. S-off, then upgrade to the htcdev hboot. Then use simonsimons bootloader unlock tool from the Dev section to enable fastboot commands without HTC knowing, thus keeping warrenty. But, if you only intend to do custom roms a htcdev unlocked boot loader will suffice.

Thanks! I just want to root my girlfriend's phone because I am tired of her nagging saying her phone is slow and yada yada...If you don't mind, can you read my plan of action and tell me if it is correct or not?
STEPS TO UNLOCKING BOOTLOADER and ROOTING for T-mobile HTC Wildfire S:
1.) Follow this to unlock bootloader [TUTORIAL][S-ON] Unlock Bootloader using HTCDEV.com
*** I also found this youtube video which seems to have all the steps (HD) How to Root the HTC Wildfire S (GSM) - Cursed4Eva***
2.) I want to follow this link but it says if I have to be s-off [TUTORIAL][ROOT] How to root your HTC Wildfire S?
In addition, I see a lot of custom ROMs saying you must be s-off in order to flash. What if I am s-on with unlocked bootloader?
Well, I personally have never done this. But the logic is sound firstly upgrade to the htcdev hboot but stop before it comes to unlocking it. Then go to the dev section and look for simonsimons bootloader unlock tool. Use that to unlock the bootloader and keep warrenty then again to the dev section and flash the alquez (hope that's spelled right ) recovery! Then finally get the fashable superuser zip file for gb and flash it from recovery. You now have root
As far as custom roms are concerned most will go on an unlocked bootloader, as that is what most people have here. But is a rom states that it really needs s-off or a different radio you may have some issues
Good luck buddy. If you need links let me know

when you say upgrade htcdev hboot, do you just go on the site and download the PG7624000? If not how do you upgrade htcdev hboot? My carrier is Tmo US
Go onto the website and select the ruu for your carrier download and install. After it finishes boot to hboot and if it says locked your good to go. Afaik

You need either a unlocked bootloader or S-Off to root a device.
If you are rooted properly then you can certainly flash Custom ROMs.
Before that go to ClockworkMod Recovery and take a complete Nandroid Backup of your current Stock ROM so that you can flash back Stock when you need.

can i install custom rom without unlocking the bootloader or i have to unlock the bootloader?
You need a rooted device to flash Custom ROM. To get rooted you need to unlock the bootloader or make S-Off.
You said that you are rooted the device with S-off. That' enough you can flash any ROM.
Still if you are not sure you rooted or not just refer this guide:

i cannot unlock bootloader because kernal version 2.6.35.10 ruu is not available on htcdev
Press <power> + Vol Down type what is displayed on your HBOOT.
If your Hboot version is 1.08.xxxx or later version you may skip the RUU Process and try to unlock the bootloader.
Follow the guide, it will help you to root.
I have Hboot Version 1.03.0000

You need to Update the bootloader thru HTCdev.com
Follow the steps carefully and patiently and update the bootloader. For RUU you have to choose according to your country/region and carrier, which matches with. But be sure to chose the right one.
You need to have installed HTC Sync, Android SDK and Java Runtime on your PC, those links are available with Guide itself.
After updating the bootloader, you need to root the device. Then install ClockworkMod Recovery, which will help you to take the Nandroid Backup of your STOCK ROM.
Thereafter if you need, can install LINK2SD which will help you to install all your apps on your SD Card. So that phone's internal memory will be increased and you can see a considrable fast with the device.

as i told u my kenral verion ruu is not listed on htc dev i have already installed clockworkmod reccovery and lind2sd
i just want to install custom rom
all guides of installing custom roms says that u have to unlock bootloader to install custom rom
If you are S-OFF, then you can just install a ROM. There is no need to unlock the bootloader.
is there a way to unlock bootloader without htcdev
is there r chances to hard brick my phone while flashing custom rom?

Since your bootloader says S-OFF, you can try any custom ROM.
Just refer the below link, If you like it just download the ROM and Flash it. See all the features listed there. It's not available with the STOCK ROM!....

you need xtc clip to s-off your phone.
edit: just download cwm recovery from here
rename it to recovery.img
then connect phone with hboot (fastboot usb)
type,
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
you have now cwm recovery. if you have wildfire s 2012 this recovery will not work...you can check my signature for more info about 2012 model..you will find all links there..
and s-off not needed, its only needed if you want to change splash screen, dual boot, mtd partitions etc etc.
You can install CWM after unlocking the bootloader......you dont need s-off for that

S-On: security on. Can be locked, unlocked, relocked, or unlockable depending on bootloader version and current/previous lock state. If unlocked, can flash ROMs but requires flashing boot.img from fastboot each time you flash a new ROM zip. Even if unlocked, cannot flash radios. Even if unlocked, may not be able to flash ported ROMs.
S-Off: security off. Can flash anything: radios, ported ROMs, and zips (without fastboot flashing boot.imgs).
AAHK: a tool once used for getting S-Off. Now retired. If your bootloader says AAHK you probably have S-Off.
Hi all,
Was just wondering;
I have a Rogers HTC M8 and want to install a custom ROM
Do I need to unlock bootloader via HTC, or is there another way now that we have S-OFF ?
And if there is, please do share
Thanks in advance, much appreciated

Go to firewater S-off website, the second method could let you s-off without unlock boatload and flash custom recovery as well as custom Rom.

I think that's okay to do HTCdev unlock bootloader first then flash custom recovey and get root.
Then, flash custom rom.
Don't worry dude.
