Why at this time, when there are a lot of reviews out there, there isn't still no system dump of Pixel 2 ?!?
Its probably in the wrong hands at this time....they dont know
that is called
Embargo
if any reviews out there buts anything before xxxx day that they agreed one
they will lose the trust of the company
and they will not get any devices next year
so they can't risk that
that why there is nothing before the Embargo get lifted
Maybe people just want to wait for factory images from Google...
Outside of a few apks, what would you gain that isn't in AOSP?

And that would help you out how without the device? I doubt #1 would do anything without a phone with the same soc. Apks may work, depending on other dependencies within the system image.

should i do it the manual way? or is one of the apps on the play store(font installer alone or font installer in rom toolbox) a good way to do it?
ive changed fonts in some of my older devices both manually and with font changer
but i havent tried on my gnex, so i dont know how prone is the phone to bricking from changing fonts, specially on 4.2.2
TL: DR= safe to change fonts on 4.2.2?, if so, whats the safest way? manual or font installer?

As long as you're not overwriting the bootloader by changing fonts (which you aren't doing), everything should be ok.

I always either do it manually, or use rom toolbox pro. no point in downloading another app just to do it.

Dude, you're soooooooo right, some ppl think they´re real modders / developers just by downloading zips and flashing them like this was so hard to do.
I've recovered at least 30 "bricked" phones, that just had a bad rom installation, bootloops, etc.
Bricked means BRICKED, like I've had bricked some routers forcing them to accept DD-WRT firmwares, BRICKED means your device won't do sh*t, not even accept or boot or be able to restore it in some way.
What fontchanger had, was the "advanced" feature, you could change all the system fonts if you wanted, but that would cause the device to get stuck on boot animation.
Flashing again the correct fonts would unbrick the phone.
Event though this is my first comment here in xda and I just registered, I've been around here for more than 5 years.
Hi, I've never done anything with Android. I recently received a Galaxy Note 8.0 as a gift and I want to install stock android (i.e. Nexus 7). Can anyone here either explain the steps I will need to go through or point me in the right direction? Is this even possible?
Since I've never done any Android rooting, I don't exactly understand much of the lingo used here. If someone could say "to put stock Android on a Galaxy Note 8.0, you need to use X and X" that would be great. I can probably figure it out from there.
Thanks!
Do you realise that if you did this, then the pen would no longer function? And this is the feature that you have paid the premium price for.

It's possible but are you sure you are really wanting to do this? It will remove all the pen functionality from the device which is what the device is most noted for. Just out of curiosity, what are you wanting to achieve? A cleaner or leaner ROM?

I hadn't thought of that. I don't really need the pen anyway. But how could I get a leaner ROM (get rid of TouchWiz) and still use the pen?
What are you expecting to get out of rooting?
Sent from my GT-N5110 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
You might want to just use a different launcher if you hate touchwiz so much... if you are this new to Android, I would strongly suggest you don't try any ROM fiddling.

But there is S-Pen Add On available for CM/AOKP/AOSP.

So, why not?

If there was CM/AOSP/AOKP ROM for Note 8, the pen would probably work - it does on those ROMs for e.g. Note 1.
But all the stock apps don't work there - no S-Notes, S-Calendar etc.
Anyway, if I'm not wrong, no such ROM yet - so far development forum contains two modifications of stock ROM.
There are other options for those apps in the play store, they are fairly good options too. That being said, I'm sure it is quite a task to bring AOSP to this device as we barely have working recoveries at this point.

Absolutely yes (e.g. Papyrus), but each thread of non-stock ROMs is filled with questions on "how to have TW apps working here", and the answer is always "can't be done".

This here is your best bet if you want any solid pen functionality. The reason the apps wont work with aosp is because the s pen relies heavily on tw framework. Its difficult and fairly redundant to port if over to a aosp rom. Im working on an up to date version of the rom i used to maintain on the att gn2 but havent had much time do much but itll bring.a.fair.amount of aosp apps when its complete.

See Portal, Samsung Pay won't work on Knox tripped devices.
Pp.
Well that's a real shame, but unfortunately completely expected. You either get all the bloatware and poorly tuned stock software with working Samsung Pay or you get to customize everything with custom ROMs and kernels. I'll take the custom ROMs and kernels. Too bad, Samsung, you're not getting my purchase history to monetize.

It doesn't seem as bad until you've tried a recent Unikernel build and experience the unrivaled smoothness that this device should have had from the beginning. I've been running OF8 since the day after Sunderwear put up the sideloadable update.zip and while it's much better than OF6, it just is a whole new level with Unikernel.

We all would prefer to do it ourselves.
The VZW M9 took a year for App support.
So keep that in mind.
Luckily they are even offering this service or we'd be SOL.
If you create an exploit, please do share.
Now if only there was support for my Moto Z I would be golden!

So if I get this verizon htc 10 and send it out too to them it says on their site they will s-off/unlock/root and flash twrp. Does the "unlock" mean they will unlock the boot loader? If so can I flash other roms besides the ones in just the verizon htc10 forum. There is only one stock deodexed/tweaked Rom so far, well as of last night when I looked and a custom stock kernel. I'm talking about roms like viper, or , vipre not sure of the correct spelling. Will they work on the verizon device?

*nevermind.
I was on 10, September update, no issues.
Just updated to November update, flashed over, and then reflashed patched boot image.
Magisk canary, latest, only a handful of modules for v4a and edgesense.
Kirisakura and Elemental kernels.
After I let screen time out, have to hard reset to get back into phone.
Any ideas?

Platform-tools v29.0.5?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-3-xl/themes/magisk-modules-disabler-t3966867
Then
fastboot flash boot -- slot all magisk_patched.img
You have two kernels installed? That may be the problem.
I thought I had used the latest platforms tools (updated before I flashed), but it looks like it had a stepped update.
I'll try flashing again after updating, rom and boot IMG.
Also, my brightness is like 70% of normal

Yes, I think that's it for me. Most the time that is. Like this morning, after a charge unplugged phone and couldn't wake it.
If you are using dark mode, turn it off. It was suggested as a fix in another thread.

Bad news, just froze on me. Really odd though, 12 hes with BSOD and it was happening to me like every 15-20 minutes yesterday.
I wonder if the script missed disabling dark mode. I'm going to run full disabled for a day or two and see what happens.

Dark mode disabled, was using my phone as a flash light, light still on, screen times out, and I LOST responsiveness immediately (should rules out sleep having anything to do with this... BSOD.
Super irritating. I'll probably downgrade at this point.
