Hi all,
I just bought a LG Nexus 5X (32 Go H791) one month ago.
It is supposed to be a german model (DE on the label), and the date code is October 2015 (so more than one year of storage...).
I bought it on amazon.fr
From the time I got it everything works as expected. The only point I am a bit disappointed is the battery life (but I can deal with it).
I am in the process to root it, but the potential bootloop issue scares me a bit if I need to send it back to LG during the warranty period.
I read a lot of things on Internet to try to figure if my 5X had a potential issue, but didn't find something accurate.
Regarding the root cause of the issue (weak solder on CPU or eMMC), I wonder if only some particular lots of production are incriminated or is it random?
Moreover working in the field of electronic, I know that was reveals solders weaknesses are temperature variations (stabndard test called Rapid Temperature Cycling).
Knowing this I am wondering if stressing the phone a lot during warranty period by launching benchmarks or something else could raise the potential issue quickly?
I found lots of testimonies of people facing the issue but can find a number of the probability to be affected...
If someone has something to share about this feel free!
Regards.
JB

Off: I ordered mine 5X, tomorrow it's coming
I think if CM is installed that is not a problem about warranty, becuase if the solder mess up, they can't see that you have CM
(Hope i'm not wrong)
They will refund you, they don't try to fix the device, because there are no more motherboards.
The more important thing is the bootloader is unlocked.
The question is: can we relock if we get hw bootloop?
Asked some time, but no one could answer me. I think the most of people having bootloop is just a simple user with locked bootloader.
Another thing:
I read if you heat up the cpu with a hair dryer the phone will work for some hours maybe days. Then we can relock bl and flash stock rom.
And i read that we can off the 2 bigger core and the phone will work (laggy) then we can again relock bl and flash stock.
So there is some possibility to keep the warranty.

In that case, only display can suffer but I think it can't break down that easily. It can become unresponsive but it should be ok when temperature is back to normal. To be honest, since the first phone with display, i was very careful not to use it outside during the winter

If you didn't buy it from operator or in LG store, you are on your own. I bought it from Mladen from Ns(kupujemprodajem.com) and i still have 3 months guarantee but i don't expect anything if it breaks down. Trying not to think about that

I know it's selfish, but living under the Heathrow flightpath, I'm kind of enjoying it. I can hear the birds!
Same here - it's idyllic bliss in 'ampstead without a bloody plane every 2 minutes. This is what it must have been like in the 1930s! Selfish or not, long may it continue (though the prospect of nose to tail flights through the night as they deal with the backlog isn't so attractive).

Assuming you're from Europe, according to EU law:
"Article 5
Time limits
1. The seller shall be held liable under Article 3 where the lack of conformity becomes apparent within two years as from delivery of the goods. If, under national legislation, the rights laid down in Article 3(2) are subject to a limitation period, that period shall not expire within a period of two years from the time of delivery."
Check if your country adopted this. It should, cause afaik it's pretty farking old...

I think so, but you'll have to show them that you know the law and all, and you're not likely to get fooled, then i guess they'll behave
Btw: delivery by the way it's meant there is just the moment when you get your hands on the good, it has nothing to do with shipping afaik.
Cool so I will go to phones4u tomorrow tell them I need a repair and show them these if they say no and can you give me a link to.it so I can print it off

Hi to all, today besides it looks like Friday 13th. (my car broke down) I took after I dropped my HTC One X my phone from the service with a new display.
After 2 hours I have been called and saw that the display again is broken from the left side, near the usb towards the top, (power button) is a line and cracked.
I really don't know and paid much money today and to pay again?
Could this happen or should I blame myself?
I always take good care of the phone and always carry it in my side pocket which is wide enough...
Can anyone advice me what to do?
If you are 100% positive that the screen was intact when you got it out from the service, you should take it back and council with the person who serviced the phone. It there are no signs of physical abuse or anything, you should have some kind of warranty on the display or at least on the changing service.

thank u for the reply..the service will not give me a new one..but is the display so sensitive? i mean could it break by wrong installation?
Are you sure it was completely perfect at the service center? Did you inspect your phone whatever the screen was replaced correctly or there were any cracks from the beginning?
There's not much you can do over here... You can tell them what happened and ask for replacement but I'm not sure they will replace it for free...

as far as i could see the screen was ok...im not an expert in replacing but could it be by placing the screen wrong it could crack?
Okidoki as far as i did not get the right answer to this burning question of mine another..whats the difference between the original screen and a clone? I see lots of advertising on ebay claiming its a original HTC One X screen..
How to recognise this?
If I order a new display by my self..in what kind of price tag should i look at?
Anyone?

Thank you!! Great and I ordered a new display there and the price is much cheaper than the price offered here in Skopje, Macedonia.
But still 1 question how to recognize a clone from an original screen?
What I noticed is that the screen replaced on my phone is slight smaller as at the bottom part I can see the led light trough the house shining.
Also the left < is not shining while the home and > button is lighting.
The time before (when it has been replaced also) I had the same problem. At daytime its hard to notice but at night its very clear that only 2 buttons are lighting up.
Hahahahaha epic fail.......cough goo cough gle is cough your best friend.
here you can see my broken screen and the navigation button which is not lighting up
That has been the same case with the other replacement.
Also the crack is at the same position as the last one
I paid 100 euro for this one.

LOL :good:
Ok here my last try as in the 3 days I did not get any answer, it might be that this issue is unknown?
Anyway one more try..
My HTC One X broke now a couple of times and the last time it broke at the same space as before, again I did not drop it
At the bottom I can clearly see a small open space and the 3 navigation led light shining although the navigation arrow on the left (see attached picture) is not lighting up and at night it can't be seen.
The main reason for this topic to get more informed and to put a claim at the mobile phone service and to get my money back.
Also looking at Ebay for a screen replacement it looks like a jungle as all are claiming to sale original displays but again prices are from 45 - 150 euro's. Is there some way to recognize a none (clone) original screen from a original?
Again sorry for this chain of mine on this topic but i just wonder why twice my display cracked at the same place.
It's just a coincidence that the screen broke at exactly the same point...
By looking at what you've said... I think the screen might not have fitted correctly... Hence causing the led not to shine as brightly as it should... May be there is some gap left...
About the screen originality... It's really hard to determine... If you could send us the link of the part which you are buying.. Then someone might be able to judge it's authenticity..

Thank you very much your answer
I also think it was not placed on the correct way and than the issue of the left navigation without lighting up as it should.
And the cap.
I wrote to rounded.com but no reply from them.
Maybe if someone could take a look at Ebay in Europe and to advise me which one to buy?
Should I buy the whole thing again complete or just the glass?
Also can be in a PM here.
Again thanks for the help :good: :good: :good:

Listen, stop complaining that people aren't answering your questions. As Mr.Hoff has repeatedly tried to tell you, people have NO OBLIGATION to answer you, nor does it mean that because they're on XDA They know the answer to your questions. XDA is a priviledge, without XDA you probably wouldn't have a place to even ask your question.
NOW TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION.
The difference between HTC Screen and a Generic Replacement screen is alot.
HTC Screen = LCD2 which is basically HD screen
Generic = LCD Screen with a much lesser resolution.
Also the part numbers are different, the only REAL way to tell whether you have the LCD2 screen or not.
However I cannot tell you the exact part number for a OEM HTC LCD2 Display.
Now stop ranting.
My tablet screen is absolutely shattered and Intercity samsung repair centre can't repair it as it's non eu, any recommendations?
Can't? WTF? Hardware for the screen does not change between countries. You should pay for it tho since warranty will not be accepted.

Yeah ive just emailed back asking if they thought I wanted it repairing under warranty but I knew it wouldnt be under warranty anyway due to the nature of damage / purchase.
They sent this:
Thank you for sending your device to us for repair.
Our engineers have inspected your device and identified that your device is a non EU product, unfortunately we are unable to repair the device and it will be returned without repair.
Bit odd, cant seem to find anywhere on google that will repair it easily

I haven't done that myself but a friend of mine changed 2 screens before. I think that glue has a chemical dissolver which you can buy online. just google for lcd adhesive remover or cleaner. and there s uv reactive clear glue to stick new glass.
Any company that would've repaired your screen would've just chnaged the complete display unit. The display unit goes for about 275€, so its not worth it. I would recommend changung the glas yourself or get a friend to help you. You have not much to loose.

Ive never done self repair before on a tablet so wouldnt risk it, from what ive heard self repair on this model ends bad
Official service centers won't repair foreign models to prevent grey imports from countries where their stuff is cheaper.
There are a few specialists who can separate gapless displays from the touchscreen. The latter is available separately, as that and the display come from different manufacturers. After their "marriage" they are treated as a unit, offically.
I think there's a thread in here somewhere, where someone did remove the touchscreen from the display. I'm not sure, but as i remember that involved not heating the touchscreen, but to attach some water proof rim around it, pour some liquid on it and let it there overnight. Strange. Is the liquid supposed to diffuse thru the glass, or was there a thermal effect? It was not liquid gas to freeze fry everything.
I sent my t800 in for a screen repair had it exactly how I liked rooted, blisspop on backup and currently trying out ironman. All my settings, games, icons everything possible gone. Its back to nib. I did send in my gs3 when it came out for repair, because the screen broke, and I asked the customer service people why they wiped the data, they gave me various reasons like ; I might get a refurbished one, they need to make sure the screen works and they run various tests. And for my own privacy protection so that no one intends to go thru my phone and gather data.
