Sometimes when I take my phone off the charger, the screen is so dim I can barely see it. I have to fumble my way through the menus to get to the adjust brightness screen. What's weird is that once I finally get to that screen, it brightens on its own. I have played with different brightness levels and watchfaces, but they don't seem to matter. Has anyone else had this problem?
I first noticed this on 1.5 a few weeks ago, even after a full reset, and am now seeing it on DP4 too. My watch is only six months old and does have an extra year of warranty, but I'm hoping for a solution so I don't have to get it replaced.
Not sure if it's related, but many times when I put it on the charger, the screen alternates between the charging screen and normal ambient screen every second or two. Could it be my charger that's causing this issue?

FYI, this was apparently caused by the app "Wear Brightness Control" from the Play Store. I uninstalled it from my watch and phone and haven't had the problem since. I have emailed the developer to see if he is aware of the problem and can fix it.

i've had my phone since launch and ever since my screen brightness gets automatically reduced due to overheating.
At first, the screen will dim itself ever so slightly. After a few seconds later, it returns to normal brightness and it repeats itself.
Eventually, i notice upper half of my phone as well as the screen itselft getting really hot and the brightness dims permanently.
I usually keep my brightness setting at the highest level but when i go into the menu to increase the brightness setting back to highest, it tells me the brightness is reduced due to overheating. only way to increase the brightness back to highest is to turn off the screen and let it cool down for a few min.
whenever this happens im usually browsing the internet for no longer than 10 min before this kicks in. i seriously dont think im using too much cpu by browsing forums for this super phone to be overheating.
i've read other post regarding auto brightness feature causing issues but i have not enable this feature on my phone. and its kinda hard to believe that i have to lower my brightness to prevent it from overheating.
anyone having this issue? man i'd hate to return this phone and start from scratch. tia
I would love to hear more about this...My experience matches yours perfectly. Does everyone's phone do this? If enough people say no I'm going to get a new one...it is absurd. I got those phone almost primarily for it's beautiful screen which I can't see at full brightness for more than a minute or two!?? fnck that.
Is it possible for us to get a brand new replacement unit even if your 15 day return period is over? Assuming that other users are not experiencing the same problem.
Mine does this as well, I think it's some kind of fail safe if your phone is running hot cranking up the brightness is just going to add more heat so they limit it while it's running hot. Once it cools down then it will allow it again
I have this same issue, I have to recharge above 30 percent to get the point where I can max the brightness up again
Hmmmm... guess im not the only one with this issue and hoping that it is addressed in the future update. However, it seems odd that no one brought this up? Could it be that there are only a few of us that are affected? If so, im beginning to think that this is a hardware defect?
Ive had the phone since day one. I am not having this problem. The only time it ever gets noticeably warm is when using the phone for extended periods while charging. And this is not hot like some people are reporting. I would try exchanging the phone.
Mine did this the other day, I normally have auto brightness on but I was showing a photo so i went to turn it off and crank the brightness up but it didn't let me. I pulled the battery for 10 seconds and it let me do it.
I think alot people are not experiencing this issue because they either keep the auto brightness feature turned on or keep the brightness setting at a low level. I dont wanna exchange my phone if im gonna have the same issue. What can i do?

You may be on to something.... I rarely ever have my screen at 100%, mostly because its just too bright for me.
Although, I did watch 2 hours of video (1 hour from the SD card, one streaming from Netflix) at full brightness, and never had a heat issue. A little warm, maybe, but certainly not hot.
My GNex has a screen burn in of the status bar, and the navbar. It is a dark blue shade, and I look closely I can see the back, home, and recent apps button. I am currently using the screen burn in tool to try and fix it. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

It's common in the Galaxy Nexus, and there really isn't much you can do about it besides the screen diagnostics tool. I get it as well, and my Gnex is only about 6 months old...
Turn down your screen brightness! Not only will you keep from ruining your screen with burn in, but you will save some battery in the process.
In the year+ I've had this phone never once have I noticed ghosting, much less had issues with burn in. And since it is.. Turn your brightness down, or chalk it up to user (your) error.

I have it below half when i'm inside because of bright lighting. Outside I switch it to full so its visible.
Do you guys recommend the Galaxy Screen burn-in\ghosting diagnose and repair utility, or the screen burn in tool, on the play store?
Did you manage to solve this issue?
I used this app from google play "Screen Burn Repair" to fix the issues I had with screen burn.
I've noticed in the last few days if it's sunny out when using the phone outside the phone puts the brightness up to MAX and I get green, yellow lines all across the screen. If I manually lower the brightness a little it's all ok again. I imported the AL00.. I'm guessing Huawei won't fix it as it's an import... Anyone got any ideas?

No ideas but I noticed the lines too. It was a really bright sunny day and snow around. The stripes could be seen on the white screen only. It came as a huge surprise cause I haven't noticed any other screen error or malfunction. And screen test passed without any problem.
Same for me.. Only outside and with majority of screen being white. Normally they show up when unlocking and dissapear after a second or so, I think when I start to scroll or similar.. no one else?
It's one of the oled downsides. Check it with 5% grey picture or search on youtube to 5% or 10% grey test.

The first screen in that topic is what I have too on my Mate20X. It's a gamble. If you return it and swap it, you may get a worse unit.
This problem just started today, I've done nothing with settings, have not installed any apps recently, did not drop it, expose it to water, or anything that could possibly cause damage. What's happening is that basically about 1 inch-1 inch 1/8 of the bottom of the screen turns black, and at almost random, sometimes it could go a minute and half or so, sometimes 30 seconds, sometimes within 5 or less seconds. The strangest part? The part that goes black still operates fine to touch, so if an icon or letter of the keyboard, or whatever, is located in that area, it can still be selected/operates. Taking a screenshot to try to show it is worthless since it'll show the screen as just fine, so I attached a picture and a video of the problem from an old phone of mine. The blacked out are will go right back to normal if you turn the screen off, wait a second, and turn it back on. Also, if the blacked out area is there, it'll go away after about a half a second when the screen dims right before the screen inactivity turns the screen off. I've only had this phone for a couple months, I got it back on December 7th 2019.
I learned something else. If I manually lower the brightness to a particularly low level, the black goes away, so it seems to in some strange way be related to the phones brightness level (I use auto brightness), this also might explain why the black comes at differing intervals, as my brightness is adjusting constantly to my surroundings, the time before it comes is either shortened or lengthend based on the brightness.
It doesn't seem that strange that the touch still works in that area as the digitiser and the display are two different things. I would factory reset (because Samsung will make you do this anyway) and if still an issue, take it directly to Samsung, that does not look good.

I was just thinking I might have to do factory reset, if that doesn't work, and it needs repair/replacement, do I go to an authorized Samsung repair place (I know I have one within about a couple miles of my house), it's
obviously well within warranty, or take it to At&t store as I do have that AT&T Protect Advantage coverage for my phone?

Did the factory reset, turned out to be a waste of time. That black bar was showing immediately, right at the setup screen. So I guess it's safe to say that it's a hardware issue, defective whatever. Funny story is that when I bought this phone, my att store only had two of them left, one was immediately defective, it wouldnt get past the main logo screen, and now I got this one and it became defective within just a couple months, got to love it.

Just left AT&T store where I initially purchased the phone. They're shipping out a brand new note 10+ to me today and I'll get it tomorrow ?
Glad to hear! That definitely sounded like faulty hardware. Funny you saw two failures, I guess it will happen with such complex devices.

Hi i thought i was crazy until i saw your thread. The same thing is happening to me but it does not go continuously so id see two red squares first theyre really small and they appear anywhere on the screen then if try to screenshot them they show upblack in the screenshots instead of red . I just need to know if anyone found a solution yet because my phone came with the warranty booklet but it wasnt filled out.

You just need the proof of purchase, or, if you got it on contract, the contract itself will suffice
Hi, I’m having a problem with my Huawei Mate 20 that I bought in 2019. The screen brightness is too low even when set to 100%. This started happening two days ago after I spent the day outside in the sun (i don't know if hot temperatures influenced but has already been 2 days so is strange). When I got home, I charged my phone and opened some apps, but it started crashing and the screen went black. I tried force rebooting it multiple times but the screen remained black. I thought it might be a battery issue so I charged it for an hour and a half but still nothing. After 40 minutes, I accidentally pointed a lamp at my phone and could see that it was working perfectly but the brightness was very low. A similar thing happened to me in 2020 but I can’t remember how I fixed it. I tried searching for solutions online and on XDA developers but none of them worked for me except one that involved ADB which I can’t try because for some reason I can’t connect my phone to my PC with USB debugging. My warranty has expired like 2 years ago so lol... and I haven’t received a response from Huawei support yet (i emailed them yesterday)

It was heat damaged. Anything above 125F can do it. Exposure to direct sunlight on a hot day is especially bad.
I did this accidentally to my Samsung S4+ years ago. Very faded out and got worse the more I used it.
Oddly after sitting unused it got slightly better. After I got a new phone it sat for months unused, it improve further still. After 3 years it appears to operate normally now. The crystals seem to have reverted back. Peculiar critters.
Yours may or may not do the same. There may be a way to accelerate the process. Mine sat in both hot and cold environments during that time.
Putting a charge on the crystals by using the phone is probably what hindered their recovery.
Either replace the display or let it rest. Using it will likely make it worse...

Hi black, thank you for the warm welcome and for responding to me. In fact, now that I think about it, the last time this happened to me, I had exposed it to a lot of sunlight. Would it be a good idea to place it in a cooler or shadier location to speed up its recovery? And approximately how long should I let it rest? About a week?

Cooling it might hinder it's recovery. Not really sure. I was surprised when mine eventually recovered. Not saying this will be your outcome.
Also it may take way longer then is practical
If you need to pull data leave it sit for as long as you can wait.
It's back lighting is working, right?

Lol, it looks like i just ****ed up my phone. Before I started this thread on the forum, for pure curiosity, I tried to activate the torch but it didn’t work despite multiple attempts. I hope it’s not a hardware issue ()

It can easily happen; protect from drops, water... and heat.
The battery may have failed if the phone died completely.
