Trying to decide between Nexus 5x, Honor 8, or ZTE Axon Mini?
I also think about buying a Nexus 5x, since Google guarantees security patch updates until September 2017. As far as I know it is also cheaper than the Honor 8, you can find the nexus on Amazon for 275€ 64GB storage. I used Cyanogenmod for a long time, and I don't want to do without stock Android Any other opinions?

I own a 5X.
I wouldn't buy one again.
It's lacking RAM: 2GB is not enough with arm64.
The performance is uneven, as soon as it warms up a little, it starts stuttering in games as in other CPU/GPU intensive tasks.
The LED doesn't work properly (missing colors), and quite a few units have miscalibrated sensors.
I'm not a hater, I've owned 4 Nexus devices, (4, 5, 10, 5X), and the 5X is definitely on the bottom/worst half.
The 5 is snappier and more responsive than the 5X when both running exactly the same os and software

What is your intended use? Unless you want crazy good photos, then moto g4 would be more than enough + cheaper
I'd go for the mi5

Its like 5% bigger, unless you hold them side by side, i doubt you would be able to see the difference

I would buy Xiaomi Mi5.For 240$ you get snapdragon 820, 3GB Ram 32GBstorage (sd card expandable). Updates until September 2017 is for software (newer version of android), for security pacthes you get one more year. I think Honor 8 is a good choice you can find it this friday (black friday) for 299$. Personally I have no problem with nexus 5X but I'm not making very heavy use, not playing games. The biggest problem in nexus 5X is the battery, you get about 3-4 Screen On Time.

I bought a Nexus 5X for about 240USD this summer and I don't regret it much. So lets start with the bright sides. You're guaranteed monthly security updates, upgrade to Android 7.1, and possibly 8.0. The software is very close to stock Android which is a good thing. There are many custom and third party ROMs. So the software side of Nexus 5X is very good. Next, the build, the form factor, and the placement of all buttons and the fingerprint scanner are just right. I use a Supcase Unicorn Beetle case, and the grip and feel of the phone is just right. Next, the fingerprint reader, OMG. It's fast and it's where it should really be on all smartphones. The screen is bright and accurate. The camera's photo performance is good. Overall performance is fine.
The bad sides: no storage expansion. Only 30FPS video recording. Only 2GB of memory, Snapdragon 808 SoC. For me only the first one is a real problem. Some people say they run into issues playing games, but I don't play any games. For me the top applications are podcast and the web browser, and for that the 5X works just fine. The storage, on the other hand, is a seriously limiting factor if you wanted say to put your music library on the smartphone.
I think a Nexus 6P with its 64GB of storage and more memory would certainly be better, but I honestly don't get it why the Nexus 6P still holds such a high price these days. It's a one year old smartphone that was made in a year that was specially bad for Android because of Snapdragon 808/810.
If you could wait perhaps a couple of months, then perhaps I'd recommend to consider waiting for Honor 6X because I understand it should be as good as Honor 5X, but with a better SoC (one of areas where Honor 5X remains "low end" is its SoC still using A53 cores built on an old process).
What about the boot loop problem ?

The bootloop problem was a hardware defect of some phones. Either you have it, or you don't. If you bought the phone from a source with a credible warranty support, then the phone is supposed to be replaced.

2) If Android N will come on N5, do you buy anyway the N5X?
3) Specially, do you change your N5 for N5X (32GB) at 269€?

Well the preview builds for all of the currently supported Nexus devices for Android N are out and the Nexus 5 didn't make the list.
Yes, I know. Maybe I badly explain myself. If Nexus 5 have the N preview or N release, do you buy N5X?
1)
I recently switched my N5 to a new N5X, and I'm satisfied with the change. Fingerprint sensor, better camera, more user space (16->32 GB), bigger battery.
Currently I'm running stock MHC19J along with franco.kernel r6 and I'm not experiencing any lags at all.

Well, I moved from my old N5 16GB to my new 5X 16GB, I don't use a lot of space thanks to the cloud and of course 269€ is a very good price (I paied 349 on playstore for 16GB).
I think that the N5X is better than N5 in all aspect, but of course the big differences are about camera, finger sensor, battery, screen, WiFi and 4G. Nand is also faster than the N5 nand (with encryption e a lot faster without encryption). N5X has a better build quality too.
About the SoC, the 808 is faster than 800, both phones have thermal trottling, the big difference is that while the N5X stops the big cluster, the N5 goes down to 1GHz after some times. Looking with this point of view the two devices, the N5X is faster if it's cold, slower when it's warm, faster when it's hot because there is a moment when the N5X has only the LITTLE cluster at max speed and the N5 is in trottling but at 1.57GHz and this make the N5 faster than N5X. However, the N5X still be faster than N5 looking it at 360°.
With a custom kernel (I use the ElementalX) is very fast. There is also the 2GB memory question, someone think that it's no enought, someone think that it's fine, but a lot of people come from 2GB RAM devices and they don't have any issue so...
Last point, keep in mind that N5X supports also the burst rate, 240fps recording with stock system too and EIS (this only with mod)
So
1) For users that change N5 for N5X, what do you think? I think what I wrote up
2) If Android N will come on N5, do you buy anyway the N5X? Yes of course
3) Specially, do you change your N5 for N5X (32GB) at 269€? It's a very good price, so yes

I had N5 - 16GB and bought 5X 32GB.
1. It works much faster and the battery is better, the size is almost the same, so it's OK for me.
2. Android N works great, even not rooted, I miss Xposed modules, but I can live without them for now.
3. I prefer Nexus line only, because of new updates and easy rooting...
4. The price difference for selling my n5 and buying 5X was about 100$, so again' it's fine by me (sold for about 250$, bought for 350$)
Thanks to all!

Hey man,
1. I had an N5, dropped it a week ago, and cracked the screen. Decided to sell it, and for another 200 euro, I bought the N5X. I think it was worth it.
Phone has 2x better battery (6h SoT easy with my usage, 3h if I try hard with the N5), screen is better, a bit bigger, but build quality is sooo much better. Also better camera.
2. Android N is NOT coming to the N5. It started with Android 4.4, got 5, then 5.1, now 6. It will not get Android N officially.
3. I had a 16GB N5, and bought 16GB N5X, because 16GB N5X is 300 euro here, the 32GB is around 400. And to be honest, I have my music in the Google Play Music cloud (you can add 50 000 songs for FREE!), so storage is not a problem. In fact, I have absolutely nothing on the phone, except apps and the system. Photos sync to google photos, and I delete them, videos - I copy over to my PC. So it depends, but for me, 16GB is enough.
And a note, I hope more people read this.
At first, I was so unhappy with the N5X - it was lagging alot, stuttering, everything was opening sooo slow. It drove me mad. I was waiting for october-november to sell this phone and get the new Nexus.
But then came android version MHC19J, and boy, is this a different phone. Silky smooth, swaps between apps nicely, better than ever. Everything runs like a dream. And then I flashed the Franco kernel on it, and it got even better.
So, ditch the good ol N5 (Don't get me wrong, the N5 is such a great device) and get a N5X. And if you ask me, don't flash android n preview. It is a step back, in terms of performance. There is too much lag, and changes are mostly visual, for now.

Thanks for your reply. Now is faster than N5?
Same question that I just made for other users:
Buy N5X now or wait for new Nexus?
It is noticeably faster than the N5.
If you can, wait for the next nexus. I needed a new phone so I bought the N5x and I'm happy.
You can always do like me. Buy the N5x and if the new nexus is worth it, sell the N5x and buy the new one. You lose some money but you get to have your cake and eat it at the same time.

Hi,
I know this question may seem similar and it has already been answered before but those threads are over 5-6 months old so imo they aren't relevant anymore. I have to make a decision ASAP regarding selling my 8 months-old 16GB Moto X 2014 and upgrading to a brand new 32GB Nexus 5X. In the place where I live, the X2 can easily be sold with ~$175 (I bought it new for $250). Now, the 32 gig 5X can be bought at ~ $350. So, do you guys think it's worth the extra $$$? Did the 5X improve since the monthly 2016 updates? Does anyone here tested the N Dev Preview 4 on their 5X? Do the past issues (like overheating) are still there? To me, the "shocking" thing about the 5X is the fact that I tested it in a local store besides my X2 in Geekbench 3 and it was quite of a surprise to see the Moto take the lead in the 2nd attempt. (Both stock, running MM 6.0 - The 5X had the October 1st 2015 security update). After the 2nd run, the 5X's score dipped below the X2's by around 300-500 points.

Why aren't the 5 month reviews relevant? Why do you have to make a decision asap? I don't think anyone here has tested DP4. Why is anything you see "shocking" ? How do you test at a store with the same software as you have on whatever phone you say you have? Why did you post this? Why did I reply? When is DP5 coming out already? When will TWRP be compatible with Nougat encrypted?
I am asking if N brings improvements to the device. 5 months ago, there wasn't any DP3 or DP4. Jeez, I don't see why you have to be so rude.

You will never get a consistent answer on performance. Some people claim N5X performance is terrible, others say it is great. I have had it since launch and performance has been flawless for me. If you are a heavy gamer you would probably want better specs, but otherwise the N5X is solid.
My N5X has never overheated, nor has performance suffered due to throttling. But, I don't game, so I wouldn't expect to run into those issues. I don't have the dev preview installed (I rely on my phone too much day-to-day to install a beta OS), but reports have generally been very positive.
Personally, I don't get hung up on benchmarks. They don't reflect real-world usage, in my opinion -- a phone can score great on benchmarks and be crappy in real life usage (particularly if the phone has been engineered to over perform in benchmarks) and vice versa. JMO.
The 2016 Nexus to come after the Nexus 5X is the Sailfish, it will be made by HTC, will have a 5 inch 1080p display, 4 GB of RAM, and possible the SnapDragon 820 or 821. The Nexus Sailfish is claimed to be coming with a 13-megapixel rear snapper and an 8-megapixel front camera.it sounds like there will only be a 32GB model for the Sailfish.
So will you upgrade or will you keep the 5X or will you go elsewhere for your 2016 phone?
First thing is price for me..next is battery

Got 5X few days ago so no.
Maybe if it has a compass that works all the time and not just sometimes I will!
I got the Nexus 5X at launch, and I plan to do the same with Sailfish. I really like the 5X, but I'm in the habit of upgrading every year.
No. The absence of front facing speakers kills it for me.
i got my 5x with the project fi enrollment deal making it 199. the price tag is the only reason i bought it, so probably not. i still catch myself wanting to repair the screen on my six and taking it out and about every once in a while.
Should've made this thread a poll.
I, for one, will be jumping ship as soon as the phones are released and there are some legit reviews that highlight their strengths and weaknesses. I still owe around $200 on my N5X but I'll pay that off and get either Marlin or Sailfish. Haven't decided which one, yet.
If the specs turn out to be true then yes. And I would like it to be called the Nexus 5P if it does as it would only be appropriate.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
I'll get one of each (Marlin and sail), keep the one I like best, then offer the other to the wife. If she isn't interested then return it. I love this time of year every year!
Sent from my Nexus 5X using XDA-Developers mobile app
Unlike last year, I won't jump on the preorder. I might if the phone is attractive and has good battery life.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
Nope. I cant buy a new device every few months. And besides, IDGAF if it has triple better specs, the 5x is smooth and customizable and has a good battery life if tweaked correctly. Buying a new nexus just for a few miliseconds of speediness or an hour extra of battery life is a waste of money IMHO.
Depends on physical size of Sailfish. I'm still using original MotoX 1053 with KK. Easily fits in pocket. Battery starting to exhaust earlier and earlier, so about time for replacement. Would love to have same phone with wireless charging and upgraded chips and software.
What does this mean? I don't understand this article.
http://motoringcrunch.com/news/2016-google-nexus-sailfish-marlin-wont-get-rooters-support/32008994/
We know that Google will be releasing two Nexus smartphones this year and that both these models will be made by HTC. Based on the details we have now, the Nexus Sailfish and Marlin are turning out to be a really tough contender. However, no matter how amazing it is going to be, the rooters will still not support the new Nexus devices.
The Nexus devices have always been a rooters go-to smartphone mainly because it comes running on the stock android and it is usually the first to get all the software updates from Google.
However, with the new safety system in place, the new Nexus Sailfish and Marlin will be useless to the rooters. According to Google, their new Android 7.0 Nougat will come with a new safety feature that will stop the device from booting up if it detects that it is being corrupted.
They also added that the system will only be available if the device comes with a locked bootloader so it is still possible for rooters to root the new Nougat OS, they just can’t do it with the Nexus
depending on the price.........

It's not. Even from G2. Go for Nexus 6P, Pixel or OnePlus 3.
Dont purchase LG they have very ****ty warranty and support.
Just IMHO. Having had LG G2, G3, G Flex 2, Huawei P8 in passing 6 mths. Each of those had something unique. The 5X seems it doesn't. BUT despite being plastic without the premium feel, it rocks very snazzy camera and 2g Ram ain't still bad. Display is nice and sufficient and having regular, stable and most recent updates is the bonus to welcome. Plus there's a nice custom Rom community that makes your phone a beast. So choice's yours but if you grab that you won't be disappointed
Check out some reviews
The way I see it, switching from LG G3 to Nexus 5X is merely a side-grade, not an upgrade as far as the specs go. You lose the sd card slot, but gain a barely faster CPU and relatively lean ROM that has been already upgraded to Nougat.
Its definitely an upgrade IMO! Nexus rules. Better roms, kernels, other mods, more compatible.. More roms! Kick ass devs!!! I used to buy flagships. Last flagship I had was an GS4. I've had every Nexus except the Nexus 4 because at the time I was on Sprint and they didn't have it. The Bullhead is a good phone. I had a 6p before and it got destroyed on a job and liked it more as far as internal specs.. It is faster and gets better battery but I like the 5x build quality and led light seems to be more on point with colors .. You can grab a 5x for like $200 now. Dang well worth 2 bills.

If you want a better phone which runs fast and smooth and you don't want to spend a lot of money yes nexus 5x is great! If you have no problem to spend some more I think one plus 3 would be the best choice. I wouldn't say pixel is a lot faster.
I came from a G3. It was a great move with no regrets
I swapped my lg g3 for 5x. Same 32gb UK model etc. A great decision imo. Only drawback is lack of expandable storage but there is no overheating issues like in g3
That's exactly what I've done a month ago lol yeah it's woth to change the only thing I regret is the 2k screen but nexus 5x is just a little less defined and it's a lot more performing/frequently updated/more supported by xda/has a better hardware so it's worth the change
I came from a Sony Z3 Compact and I have to say that i'm too happy having mi 5X. Excellent camera (better than Z3 compact's), stock android is the best that any android fan could have, you're free from useless apps from manufacturers. The display is really good, processor works perfect, battery do it's job perfectly and further more you will have access to very nice mods and roms with great support and easy ways to install it, making the 5x a very custom phone compared to your old G3. If you want a premium feel in your hand with this phone, you just have to buy a vinyl set, there are very nice variants. Trust me, if you are an android fan, the 5x is a great upgrade from your G3.

It's not. Even from G2. Go for Nexus 6P, Pixel or OnePlus 3.

had g2, and 5x is an upgrade albeit a small one, but g3 is garbage and inferior to both phones.
imo the only phones worth to buy for their price group are:
moto E3
nexus 5X
oneplus 3
Sorry to hijack your thread but I have the same dilemma as well, between OnePlus X and Nexus 5X. Should I keep 5X and sell OPX or the other way round.
OPX over 5X:
- Sleeker body profile VS fatter body profile. The Onyx version is really nice.
- SDCard slot so I can use SD card as adaptive storage to get more spaces VS fixed 16/32 storage
- 3GB RAM VS 2GB RAM
- Better screen? AMOLED vs IPS. Higher PPI.
5X over OPX:
- Better processor 808 VS 801
- Fingerprint VS no fingerprint
- USB Type C VS micro USB
- Better camera quality and performance
- Faster update from Google, but this doesn't matter as I always flash custom ROM
Thank you.

dont matter:
performance, 808 throttles so its the same in daily use
amoled, that tells nothing about screen colors, ppi difference is not visible
slightly matter:
usb c, for covenience
fingerprint, for "security"
3gb, nice to have
sd card, nice to have
important:
processor, qualcom stops releasing updates for old hardware
looks, if you crave the phone then you might as well buy it

I have both of them now, OPX and 5X.
So your suggestion is to stay with Nexus 5X due to USB-C and fingerprint?
Thank you.

thats on you. personally i dont even use fp anymore, while i LOVE usb c not having to play twister every time i plug in xD
I did and I'm happy because of it N5X works much better than G3.
Did you sell it yet? ???? @reefuge
Sent from my Nexus 5X using XDA Labs
This phone is a massive 90° turn for google as much on the software side than the hardware.
SO let me know:
1- Are you excited for the GP6 Pro?
2- Do you plan on buying it?
3- What the feature, following the leaks and the I/O that you anticipate the most?
For me :
1- YESSSSSS!!!!!!! (see the title)
2- I'd love to, I'll wait though. I want to see the firsts feedbacks before buying one.
3- To me, the whitechapel SoC really picked my interest a lot. It will either be a deception or a big nice surprise, don't disappoint me Google!
Yes, sort of.
Maybe. I have the Pixel 5: a meh phone, with useless VZ 5G so I turned it off. The only things I'm happy with are battery life, weight/portability, and that I didn't upgrade my plan to a 5G plan.
New in-house chip. I'm not holding my breath on "new and improved" because Google tends to let everyone down prior to announcement, so I'm expecting the same here.
Edit: To be fair, I flipped flopped on buying the Samsung Galaxy 21 Ultra for the camera. What keeps me with Pixel is their call screening. There's been so many of them, the call screening is the best.
I'm buying it the second it's ready!
I'm not excited bcz it has the same 8mp periscope that Vivo, Realme or ZTE etc are using

Lol and that shows some ignorance. Those other phones don't use Google's software processing for photos. And that's a HUGE deal.

We can atleast have GCam on other 8mp periscopic phones to get a similar output like GP6 pro. Hence wanted Google to have its in-house sensor or atleast get one from other sensor makers specifically for GP6 pro. PS: those other phone can atleast have GCam and I didn't ignore this.
I'm gonna buy it as soon as I can. I am still running my Pixel 2XL.
1- Yes, finally the Pixel phone we were waiting for.... Hopefully
2- Day One
3- Combination of the Whitechapel SOC and Camera setup. Still not the same amount as the 21 Ultra, one thing Google knows is how to get the best out of hardware they go with. We are talking about the potential capability of iPhone structure but with more modern tech throughout the phone.
I'm very excited as I am for most Pixel releases. I am buying the second it becomes available. I'm afraid if I wait, with the chip shortage, I might miss out if I don't act fast. I am really excited about the new chip and, hopefully, tight integration between software and hardware. I am also really excited for the triple camera setup. Between the nearly 1" sensor, higher resolution and Googles image processing software I am fully expecting them to retake the photo crown back from Apple.
I would like to see eSIM availability on day one. One National carrier, and eSIM for spare carrier/international travel. I sold my Samsung S21+ Unlocked because I couldn’t activate an eSIM!
I have currently a Oneplus 8 Pro. Camera is very average, with Android 11 they moved further away from stock Android, Updates come very slow now that there are newer Oneplus devices (had november security patch until mid february, then we got january patch instead of february...)...
I am so excited for Pixel 6 Pro, as this phone is finally a pixel phone that seems to make no compromises:
Tripple cam
Big Battery
120 hz
Great performance chip (not a hardcote gamer, so must not be top notch for me)
New camera senors...!
I think Pixel 6 Pro will crush it this year.. looks like a S21 Ultra with clean Android.. !! Nice!
But i guess the price tag will be huge, around S21 Ultra launch price (maybe just a little less)
I'm not excited. Mainly because ever since I bought the Pixel 1 and loved it, and used it until a year ago when I got a 512 GB Samsung, I was anticipating getting a 256 GB Pixel as my next upgrade once one was available. I waited four years and now, though, I wouldn't upgrade to another Pixel unless it had 512 GB of internal storage (or have a Micro SD slot, which won't happen with the Pixel). I like my music local and in FLAC, and have my entire library with me. I'm happy that they've finally decided to have 256 GB of storage as an option, but that just won't cut it for me anymore.
I'm extremely apprehensive about this, on one hand it's possibly the flagship Pixel that we've always wanted. On the other hand, it's running a custom chipset that's based on exynos. What does that mean for root access? It seems like exynos chips are always running behind on getting rooted and are generally less efficient than their Snapdragon counterparts. That's complicated by the fact that it's basically a bespoke chip now just for pixel phones.
We'll see, I'm currently holding on with my OnePlus 6t, but OP is dead to me going forward. I was planning on definitely switching to Pixel, but now I'm waiting to see how much access the dev community has to the device

Yes, Oneplus is really not what it once was anymore.
For Exynos Chipset: the exynos Chipset in the S21 Series is great. It is about on the same level than the Snapdragon. Some people even claim it has better battery life and doesnt heat up as much than the Snapdragon version.
Since the Pixel 6 Chip seems to be based on this Exynos Chip with some minor changes, i am sure it will be great!!
It is the first Exynos phone i would buy.
The difference between exynos and snapdragon s21 is not noticable anymore. I m pretty sure that performance and battery will be great.

True, while the gap is closing, there is still a gap. That's really not my main holdup, it's getting root without losing too many features.
Google has been tightening the reins on Android for years. Hopefully we will get full root access without many sacrifices, just need to wait and see
The last google phone I purchased was the Nexus 4 at release, then later I got a Nexus 9. The Pixel series has never interested me, especially design wise. If the P6P's renders are accurate it'll be my 1st google device in years.
I've been running Samsung devices the past few years because no Pixel hardware has really impressed me since the 2XL. The software has been great but hardware has been lacking. I desperately want to get back on the Pixel bandwagon and if all these leaks turn out to be accurate this will finally be the phone that does it! I'll be trading in my Note Ultra 20 on it. Wish we didn't have to wait til late September or October.
Yep...I am. I hope the Pro version has a flat screen instead of a curved screen though.

1. I'm stoked. Haven't been this excited for a Google device since the Galaxy Nexus w/Ice Cream Sandwich, though the Nexus 5 leak accompanied by KitKat ranks up there.
2. I plan on F5'ing the Google Store repeatedly as soon as the presentation starts, so yeah.
3. Whitechapel and, Material You (biggest software overhaul since 4.4). Also it seems like Google gives a darn about hardware now.
