Will you upgrade from Nexus 5X to Nexus Sailfish 2016? - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The 2016 Nexus to come after the Nexus 5X is the Sailfish, it will be made by HTC, will have a 5 inch 1080p display, 4 GB of RAM, and possible the SnapDragon 820 or 821. The Nexus Sailfish is claimed to be coming with a 13-megapixel rear snapper and an 8-megapixel front camera.it sounds like there will only be a 32GB model for the Sailfish.
So will you upgrade or will you keep the 5X or will you go elsewhere for your 2016 phone?

First thing is price for me..next is battery

No, I don't have spare money to get new phone every year

I bought my N5X last week and i really enjoy it. And no, i will not upgrade it

I made an upgrade to the HTC 10

HTC Nexus 5X don't think it will be cheap...
depends on price compared to other OEM manufacturers.
if its same price as OnePlus 3 then theres no point getting HTC Nexus 5X.
oneplus 3 you get 64Gb internal storage (UFS2.0 storage) with flagship spec's
how much will HTC Nexus 5X 64Gb cost?

Maybe next year...

Got 5X few days ago so no.

Maybe if it has a compass that works all the time and not just sometimes I will!

I got the Nexus 5X at launch, and I plan to do the same with Sailfish. I really like the 5X, but I'm in the habit of upgrading every year.

No. The absence of front facing speakers kills it for me.

i got my 5x with the project fi enrollment deal making it 199. the price tag is the only reason i bought it, so probably not. i still catch myself wanting to repair the screen on my six and taking it out and about every once in a while.

Should've made this thread a poll.
I, for one, will be jumping ship as soon as the phones are released and there are some legit reviews that highlight their strengths and weaknesses. I still owe around $200 on my N5X but I'll pay that off and get either Marlin or Sailfish. Haven't decided which one, yet.

If the specs turn out to be true then yes. And I would like it to be called the Nexus 5P if it does as it would only be appropriate.

I'll get one of each (Marlin and sail), keep the one I like best, then offer the other to the wife. If she isn't interested then return it. I love this time of year every year!
Sent from my Nexus 5X using XDA-Developers mobile app

Unlike last year, I won't jump on the preorder. I might if the phone is attractive and has good battery life.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk

Nope. I cant buy a new device every few months. And besides, IDGAF if it has triple better specs, the 5x is smooth and customizable and has a good battery life if tweaked correctly. Buying a new nexus just for a few miliseconds of speediness or an hour extra of battery life is a waste of money IMHO.

Depends on physical size of Sailfish. I'm still using original MotoX 1053 with KK. Easily fits in pocket. Battery starting to exhaust earlier and earlier, so about time for replacement. Would love to have same phone with wireless charging and upgraded chips and software.

What does this mean? I don't understand this article.
http://motoringcrunch.com/news/2016-google-nexus-sailfish-marlin-wont-get-rooters-support/32008994/
We know that Google will be releasing two Nexus smartphones this year and that both these models will be made by HTC. Based on the details we have now, the Nexus Sailfish and Marlin are turning out to be a really tough contender. However, no matter how amazing it is going to be, the rooters will still not support the new Nexus devices.
The Nexus devices have always been a rooters go-to smartphone mainly because it comes running on the stock android and it is usually the first to get all the software updates from Google.
However, with the new safety system in place, the new Nexus Sailfish and Marlin will be useless to the rooters. According to Google, their new Android 7.0 Nougat will come with a new safety feature that will stop the device from booting up if it detects that it is being corrupted.
They also added that the system will only be available if the device comes with a locked bootloader so it is still possible for rooters to root the new Nougat OS, they just can’t do it with the Nexus

depending on the price.........
4GB RAM is so tempting to pass

M8 vs new nexus 5 2015

I've been using the M8 on Candy5 5.1.1 and switching to Cyanogenmod nightlies for a while now, I am curious if I should consider the new nexus (I've had the nexus 7 2013, own the nexus 4 and owned the nexus 5) and am wondering if it would be worth upgrading to considering the rumors are probably truth at this point with the hexacore, fingerprint scanner and usb C, but I am a flashaholic and the M8 has been one of the only devices I've owned that has a TON of support and working roms for Sprint. Is it worth it considering the new nexus over the m8? Assuming I can purchase the 32gb model, I am heavily considering it for rom support alone.
That is your choice. No one here should sway your opinion. Obviously the newer device will be "better"... But I imagine the improvements will seem miniscule.
I'm really looking forward to having a fingerprint scanner. I also miss wireless charging from when I had a Nexus 4, I know that this is slower but I just let the phone sit overnight so it's no big deal for me, plus it's awesome to just put the phone there without any effort. I've had my M8 for almost a year now, if the new Nexus 5 or even the Huawei Nexus are not that expensive I might migrate from HTC, but if those phones are flagship priced then forget it (that's the only reason I skipped the Nexus 6).

whats your next device?

still loving my n5x but im already starting to think of my next phone. at this point heres my options as i have to buy my devices full price, im on at&t go.
htc 10 ..once aosp hits.
one+3 ...because of the rumored specs, looks and $300 price tag.
wait to see what the next nexus will be "rumored to be htc".
what about you guys?
It's too early to think about it.
My 5x is fairly new so i didn't think about it really. Right now this is the perfect one.. oneplus? No, all oneplusses seems to have calling issues echo's etc.. i had a oneplus one, i loved it though except low 4g compatibility and call quality. Besides that, the 5x is my second Nexus and i never want a non Nexus again.

Never too early to speak of a new device. in 2 weeks ill be getting the one plus 3. Loved my n5x but its time for a new toy.

Should I buy Nexus 5X or just go with a Nexus 5?

Okay, this may seem like a ridiculous question for tech people who love the latest and greatest, but I am trying to decide if the Nexus 5X is worth the extra money. I've been dragging along my Galaxy S5 as far as I can and now it is time to move on. I realize that the Nexus 5 is two years old, but all the reviews I read indicate that it performs just as well as the new 5X. I can get a 5 for around $125 new or $100 refurbished. That is a big difference to jump to $400. I do not play games on my phone. Just pictures, videos, work emails, and calls of course.
I did read that the Nexus 5 battery life was dreadful. That might be enough to push me to the 5X.
Any advice is much appreciated. Thank you.
I've never used the Nexus 5 but it looks like a solid phone and all you really need out of a phone.. But it's not supported by verizon so I got a 5x and I am happy with it. 250 new on eBay...

400 usd? I bought mine 250 euro so it should not be hard to find it for 300 usd. In any case, i would say that s5 is a fine phone if you put a custom rom which would be the cheapest solution.
For your kind of use any phone should keep you at least a day, 5x certainly will. That is if you dont have an app get bugged and drain your battery, but i imagine you know how to fix such issues if you are android user for more than a week
That being said, i would go for 5x if you dont want s5 and you find it cheaper. Its not the best phone in the world but it comes close, its stable, fast, gets plenty of support both from google and the wonderful devs here in xda, has most of essential features and some "futuristic" ones. It has its drawbacks too but they are not even worth to mention if you compare it to similar priced phones and imo its the best all rounder one could ask
Coming off a Galaxy S5, the 5x is a very nice improvement. I think you ought to do some more shopping. I bought mine from Project Fi for $260, then activated on Verizon. But $260-ish isn't that hard to find.
Check swappa. I have a 5X on the way I paid $265 for, albeit used. Just a thought

That is a fact. If you can stay plugged in the most part of the day you might be OK. But used means the battery is probably even worse than new. I'd get the 5x new.

I just purchased a refurbished 5x off of bestbuy website for $250. Still waiting to recieve it so hopefully its in good condition, but I figured at that price I couldnt go wrong.

Thank you everyone for the advice. I bought a 5X (LG-H790) last night off of ebay for $230. It is used, but looks pretty good. Saved a bundle of money. I was paranoid about buying the international (H791).

Upgrade to OP3 now or wait for the next nexus?

Im in sort of a mid life crisis. I currently own a Nexus 6 but I want a more beefy phone. The N6 is great and all but its starting to lag, battery is degrading, and the front camera sucks. I really like the nexus line and I have never owned a OP device. From the rumors im seeing the next nexus should be pretty damn good, so to all of you who own the OP3, are you happy with the purchase? Would you recommend buying it or should I just wait? Thanks!
I just got the OP3 and I was in the same dilemma as you. I like the nexus phones as the are pure android and will always get the security updates asap. But for me the current 6P is too big of a phone and has already been out for what, 9 months? You have to figure that going on past performance, the next generation Nexus phone won't be announced until Sept and will not be available until Oct. I didn't want to wait 4 months. Plus, the price is almost certainly going to be a lot more that $399. Having had the OP3 for a week, I know I made the right decision.
No mistake about it, if you buy the OnePlus 3 then you will be buying a premium phone. From the build to the cases, it's top notch.
Don't think that the lower price means a compromise. It's sleek, powerful and most importantly the OS is stable and well supported by the company. No bloatware..
When Nexus comes out you will be waiting for next Galaxy

I love Nexus but...
OnePlus really has done it with the OP3. It really could be the best damn phone ever! Build, OS and dev support is up there with Nexus and I honestly would say I like the OP3 way better than my wife's S7. Honestly. I love it. I have owned Samsung's, nexus and OPO, OP2 and now OP3 and this is by far the best of them all. And the cherry on top for me is OFFICIAL Slimrom support on the way.
Oh, and dash charge.. how the hell did I ever live with out it???
well I sold my 6p for this baby then will probably get the next nexus or whatever google throws at us. depending if it's worth it tho

is the nexus5x still worth it ?

Hi guys !
I was plaining to buy a nexus5x in the last 4 mounths , but I hesitated a lot especially after the bootloop problem that a lot of people are claiming to have on their phones.
the reason that I wanted a nexus5x is basically the low price , besides the fact that it's a great phone with amazing specs + I already had a Smsung Tab A(6)(free) so I tought it would be wiser to keep it and buy a nexus 5x, instead of sealling it and spend all the money on a galaxy s7 or somthing like it.
So what do u think is the best choice :
to keep the Tab + buy nexus 5x(just a 16gb is available , with no warranty so if it brokes I'm done !!!)
or
to buy the s7
and thanks to all
The answer to the question whether Nexus 5X is still worth it depends on the price you pay for it. I got mine last summer for just 240USD and I still think it was worth it. It has a bright screen with objectively proven accurate colors. It has a very good photo camera and an extremely fast fingerprint reader. It has a very lean ROM, and very frequent monthly updates. The Nexus 5X was the first smartphone to receive the Nougat update (along with other Nexus devices). Even today, the only device that can challenge the Nexus 5X in the price-performance ratio (in USA at least) is the Huawei Honor 8.
Compare it to what else you can get for the same price. I'm still enjoying mine after over a year but there are different options to choose from at this point.
I just got my nexus 5x 2 weeks ago. and if you ask me i will say you that go for it man, its amazing device with less money. S7 is great too but you have to pay more for that, and what i love abt nexus 5x is its stock android and frequent updates if u are a stock android lover and want your phone to be updated than nexus 5x is for you.
Its not worth it. Trust me, the parts to fix it are expensive, it heata up during summer like crazy. The back is made of crap material and overall battery life while active is terrible. Get the OP3 or OP3T if you can. I should have bought that, but I was impatient so I opted for this crappy device
As others have said, it really depends on what you pay. I'm loving mine. I've had no problems so far, battery is acceptable, and running Nougat without problem. I couldn't ask for more from a device which I paid only $300 USD for.
Check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3
( Kenzo) The snapdragon variant. Lots of development.
Thanks
KnieveI
16GB isn't worth it unless you're getting it for like $100.
