I was using g3 16gb 2gb of ram
I would say definitely worth to upgrade
Good camera
More performance
Faster update.

It's not. Even from G2. Go for Nexus 6P, Pixel or OnePlus 3.
Dont purchase LG they have very ****ty warranty and support.
Just IMHO. Having had LG G2, G3, G Flex 2, Huawei P8 in passing 6 mths. Each of those had something unique. The 5X seems it doesn't. BUT despite being plastic without the premium feel, it rocks very snazzy camera and 2g Ram ain't still bad. Display is nice and sufficient and having regular, stable and most recent updates is the bonus to welcome. Plus there's a nice custom Rom community that makes your phone a beast. So choice's yours but if you grab that you won't be disappointed
Check out some reviews
The way I see it, switching from LG G3 to Nexus 5X is merely a side-grade, not an upgrade as far as the specs go. You lose the sd card slot, but gain a barely faster CPU and relatively lean ROM that has been already upgraded to Nougat.
Its definitely an upgrade IMO! Nexus rules. Better roms, kernels, other mods, more compatible.. More roms! Kick ass devs!!! I used to buy flagships. Last flagship I had was an GS4. I've had every Nexus except the Nexus 4 because at the time I was on Sprint and they didn't have it. The Bullhead is a good phone. I had a 6p before and it got destroyed on a job and liked it more as far as internal specs.. It is faster and gets better battery but I like the 5x build quality and led light seems to be more on point with colors .. You can grab a 5x for like $200 now. Dang well worth 2 bills.

If you want a better phone which runs fast and smooth and you don't want to spend a lot of money yes nexus 5x is great! If you have no problem to spend some more I think one plus 3 would be the best choice. I wouldn't say pixel is a lot faster.
I came from a G3. It was a great move with no regrets
I swapped my lg g3 for 5x. Same 32gb UK model etc. A great decision imo. Only drawback is lack of expandable storage but there is no overheating issues like in g3
That's exactly what I've done a month ago lol yeah it's woth to change the only thing I regret is the 2k screen but nexus 5x is just a little less defined and it's a lot more performing/frequently updated/more supported by xda/has a better hardware so it's worth the change
I came from a Sony Z3 Compact and I have to say that i'm too happy having mi 5X. Excellent camera (better than Z3 compact's), stock android is the best that any android fan could have, you're free from useless apps from manufacturers. The display is really good, processor works perfect, battery do it's job perfectly and further more you will have access to very nice mods and roms with great support and easy ways to install it, making the 5x a very custom phone compared to your old G3. If you want a premium feel in your hand with this phone, you just have to buy a vinyl set, there are very nice variants. Trust me, if you are an android fan, the 5x is a great upgrade from your G3.

had g2, and 5x is an upgrade albeit a small one, but g3 is garbage and inferior to both phones.
imo the only phones worth to buy for their price group are:
moto E3

Sorry to hijack your thread but I have the same dilemma as well, between OnePlus X and Nexus 5X. Should I keep 5X and sell OPX or the other way round.
OPX over 5X:
- Sleeker body profile VS fatter body profile. The Onyx version is really nice.
- SDCard slot so I can use SD card as adaptive storage to get more spaces VS fixed 16/32 storage
- 3GB RAM VS 2GB RAM
- Better screen? AMOLED vs IPS. Higher PPI.
5X over OPX:
- Better processor 808 VS 801
- Fingerprint VS no fingerprint
- USB Type C VS micro USB
- Better camera quality and performance
- Faster update from Google, but this doesn't matter as I always flash custom ROM
Thank you.

dont matter:
performance, 808 throttles so its the same in daily use
amoled, that tells nothing about screen colors, ppi difference is not visible
slightly matter:
usb c, for covenience
fingerprint, for "security"
3gb, nice to have
sd card, nice to have
important:
processor, qualcom stops releasing updates for old hardware
looks, if you crave the phone then you might as well buy it

This decision is really up to what features you find value in. I love my G4 and you would have to decide if you want a phone that has removable battery and expandable storage to say have fingerprint scanner and the latest OS. These phones are different in a lot of ways.

I picked up the G4 the day it came out,so I've had a good few months with it. Definitely no regrets. Coming from Samsung, it's a much less intrusive version of Android..... Than say... Touchwizz. It could benefit from extra features for battery saving mode like on the Sony or SAMSUNG, but it easily lasts me a day.
One of the best cameras, used it on my recent trip Italy, if you are into photography... You can have a lot of fun.
With every phone you will find +/-, but sure you can probably get a good deal on aG4, making it a real phone to consider.

I can answer one of those questions: the overlay is acceptable, because 99.5% of the time I don't see it because I use the camera/browser/gallery/app of choice, instead of playing with the settings. That might be different in your case, but since you asked I thought I'd answer.
Hell! I'd recommend the G4 over their 6P! For that European price, I'd 100% recommend the G4 over it!!! No doubt about it! You can get the G4 for 420 euros! The 6P will be 650 and I still think the G4 will compare just as well Or even better in the camera department and battery life. Nexus' aren't known for battery life. Neither is the LG, but hey! ...

I'm also looking at ordering the G4 after the disappointment of the 5X, but it looks like LG will always gimp Nexus devices so it won't compete with their own flagship.
LG seems to be the only manufacturer left that give all the choices for users, even Samsung is going Apple direction.
I find LG interface to be much more bearable than Samsung which to me personally is unusable. This is helped by the fact of on-screen buttons. But I'm just waiting for CyanogenMod availability.

Then you are not a typical nexus user. You are interested in nexus only because updates are regular and this keeps the value of your device up.
You really prefer to have the extra 'features' every non nexus device offers.
So is this the same as the OP or not.

86 in photo and 79 in video for both but one has 84 points and G4 83 points, anyways DxoMark just sucks, a french reviewer... never in low light
I'm disappointed in the 5x because of the faux look of dual front speakers when in reality one is just an earpiece speaker, nothing more and lack of qi charging, and same outdated storage options. Really don't care about the lack of RAM, not like I can tell a difference going from the G4 to nexus 5, though all of it is hard to justify at $380 when you pay $20 more and get 3gb of ram, a 5.7 inch 2k screen, and an SD slot by choosing a moto x pure edition. 5x specs would be fine with nexus 4 pricing tiers
To answer your question if you're a purist like me, LG UX will drive you bonkers. So much stuff they changed just to be different that doesn't really have a purpose. I like it overall OK but have already decided I'm going back to a nexus or a moto next year. Also the memory leak is in full effect on it as LG has written 5.1.1 off as "too minor to even bother with" which means it won't get fixed until you get marshmallow which probably won't be until 2016

That was quick but the most interesting scores are the N6P is top for texture in stills beating the S6 & G4 and beating both again for Noise by 4 points.
I think the comparisons of N6P against S6/G4 are going to be interesting, hard as it might be to believe, expect the N6P shots to look slightly better in details than the S6/G4. How to counter that ? reduce to 12MP on both, now noise & details will look sharper and the difference will be hard to tell. Still, this is an achievement for the N6P. The 6S+ did not get there. The Z5 did.
In terms of video stabilisation its a good ten points behind the G4 so jerky video.
12MP and 1/2.3" rear camera.
The big catch is that there is no OIS in either N5X or N6P, pretty shocking considering N5 & N6 had it. Go to the trouble to make a good camera and then leave out OIS. Seriously WTH!!!! So like the Z5 except the Z5 will have more features ootb. You better have good handholds a la xperia or M9 to get clear low light shots with these nexii.
What will the camera interface be like, google camera has always been very limited. 3rd party cams will be essential. And then we will find out just how slow the shutter gets to.
They left out wireless charging on both ! ok, i get it that morotola is crap at wireless charging but LG already nailed it with the 5, two years ago.
Course for those who want sd & removable battery, software is not going to be able to fix
I've just returned my LG G4 to get the Nexus 5x.
I loved the G4's camera but the bloatware, bluetooth issues, buggy smart unlock, constant notifications of "NFC may drain battery" when using my car dock, the big when you put it on charge, the bing when it finishes charging, the bing when you turn it on, the bing when you turn it off.... it stopped being an enjoyable device to use and it was all because of what LG had done to Android.
So I'm going back to stock android. Originally I was going to wait for a G4 AOSP or Cyanogen rom but with the announcement of the fantastic Nexus 5x camera I decided to make the move while I still could..
The feature list is cut down compared to the G4 but it is stuff I am not so concerned with. I've not used expandable storage since moving to use Google music, Photo, Docs, Keep and Drive. I've never used wireless charging, and I don't game on my phones so I am not worried about the 1gb less of ram, especially when my Nexus 4 uses nearly 1GB of ram less than the LG G4 when idling.
I got the G4 after trying almost all other phones out there. I had Z3, HTC One M9, S6, Nexus 6, Iphone 6, and now G4 and the G4 blows them all away.
It is quicker than the others, has no memory or multitasking issues contrary to some minor views in this thread, the bluetooth, 4g and wifi work perfectly, smart lock works fine too, the camera beats all of the other phones I owned, and the battery life is equal to if not better than all at 5 Hours SOT at 60% screen brightness.
The new google launcher is AWFUL so wanting that is just nonesense, and the LG launcher has replaced Nova for me, because it's just as customisable.
Nexus fans won't want it though because they want Stock = Boring, and prefer the boring look to a decent camera and features. Anyone expecting the new Nexus devices to actually have decent real world camera is praying to the wrong gods.
I have no memory leak issues with my Verizon model, and love 95% of this phone.
Coming from a Nexus/Moto X background, I find LG's ui decent and mostly easy to use. There are 2 or 3 little annoyances in how settings are accessed, but Nova Launcher fixes most design issues - an icon pack and new screen layout, plus gestures to shortcut to the settings I use most.
I world consider rooting to clean up the other small issues, but I'm a regular Android Pay user do I'm holding off until that all shakes out.

Im a huge nexus fan ive owned all of them from the first HTC to the last motorola. I bought the g4 blindly to test the non nexus waters and this phone has blown me away especially after the updates and the camera is super amazing and no nexus can or will beat it. Dont get me wrong ill probably grab the new nexus 5 based on stock so i can have fun rooting and putting custom roms on it, but besides having cutting edge software it will be my secondary phone and ill stick with my g4 for everyday use. To be honest im a crack flasher and it feels good to not have that urge with my g4, i got root and thats all i needed to get rid of some things and add xposed to tweak it a bit. Very happy with my g4 and will likely get the g5 when it drops.

Yes. In terms of hardware, it's about even up. And the G4 also offers a miniSD slot, exchangeable battery, and nice back covers. Only possible drawback might be the battery live, probably mostly thanks to the G4's insane resolution.

I don't like the LG icons, but that can be easily changed by using a different launcher like Nova. Also, the colors for toast messages and quick settings are a bit bright (cyan). And the mobile data protocol (LTE, G3, ...) is displayed as own icon instead of small text in the reception bar icon. Most of the rest can easily be ignored or even be disabled in the settings.
But a lot of this (and more) can be modified even without unlocking the bootloader. You can flash rooted ROMs via the cable firmware update screen, and then use FlashFire to flash other ZIP updates like Xposed or themed variants (warning: very slow...).
With the European H815 version, you can also unlock the bootloader, but you'll lose warranty, and it can't be unlocked. But it'll allow you to flash "more AOSP" ROMs. (Official CM12 is work in progress, but there's an inofficial port available.)

Android M at least has been announced for the G4. I guess it's hard to tell even by LG's developers, as it depends on the changes made by Google.
But then, the changes made since Android 4.1 aren't that impressive anyway IMHO, and several recent updates had some teething troubles, so maybe it's not so bad to wait a bit longer...
Hey guys and gals, I have been thinking about switching over to the nexus 6p and was just wondering what your thoughts were. I know the nexus 6's development has been awesome so I am hoping this (6p) will be as well. I do like my g4 but I'm not completely sold on it anymore. What do you guys think?
Sent from my VS986 using XDA mobile app
Well I'm about to buy the G4 because of the disappointment with the Nexus 5X, very lacking in feature. Poor storage option, no wireless charging, low RAM, no image stabilization of any kind. And if I get the 32GB version it's probably ~$460-470 after shipping and tax which cost more than a new G4 or Moto X Style. Google limit the features of the 5X on purpose like EIS (electronic image stabilization) even though the processor is capable. For the Nexus 6P the spec is good, but the it's a little too big and the 64GB/128GB model are too pricey, it's cheaper for me to get a G4 and a 128GB microSD. Neither Nexus have some of the features I want like HDMI output and IR Blaster, which the G4 have. Sure the camera features on the new Nexus are nice like 120fps/240fps, but not useful to me, I just want a camera that take decent shots and videos, I'm not going out of my way to search for hummingbirds to record in slow motion.
Right now I'm just concerned about the bugs and issues people are talking about with the G4, but none of it seems like a deal killer.
I think if you get a Nexus 5P, it's not an upgrade, but just sideway in term of specs and even giving up some features, the upgrade is clean stock Android UI.
6P
Skickat från min LG-H815 via Tapatalk
Yeah I would be getting the 6p specifically because the 5x is somewhat of a let down in my opinion in comparison to this. The buttery OS would be the only perk. But the 6p size does not really bother me because I am a pretty tall/lengthy guy. My phone goes in my back pocket most of the time and is set on the table or whatever whenever I sit down anyway. As far as expandable storage goes I think a 64gb phone would be plenty for myself and I never use the IR blaster anyway... I came from the g2 to this and quite honestly havn't been too impressed. If my g2s wouldn't have had hardware issues I probably wouldn't have upgraded to this. I was on my 4th g2 and figured I would check this out.

I am looking to buy a new smartphone. I am confused between LG G4 and Galaxy S6 (32 GB). What is your advice? I am hesitating to buy GS6 because of limited storage.
lg g4 its awesome smartphone
I must say I don't regret choosing the G4 over S6, even when the latter is only $100 more on contract. Pros and cons below.
Pros
- The camera is superb
- Removable storage and battery (2015!!!)
- Overall usage is butterly smooth, no overheating (but again, my previous device used a Tegra 3 and that was even hotter than a 810 so I'm not the one to judge)
- Pretty good design.
However:
- Why not USB-C?
- The DSP/DAC chip is disgraceful. Plug something into the 3.5mm and you'll get a horrible quality sound.
*I might be overly sensitive though, since I have "picky" ears.
- Gaming performance is meh. Shooters like MC3/4/5 are smooth, but anything open world and you'll get sub-15fps.
- IMO 2k screen is too much, but it seems to be the norm nowadays, so...
- Battery life isn't outstanding.
Overall I'm really satisfied except for the audio.

I recommend the G4, Its a great phone... The camera is awesome and the 24/96 audio is fantastic through a good sound system. My advice though .. Try and buy an Unlocked / Unbranded device. LG update prefixes (they use letters ie, v10a/10b.. etc) is the most confusing because they use different letters for different regions.
Buy the G4 and learn to use the camera in Manual Mode
I first had an S6 128GB but I changed to G4 H815. But I have to say, on technical things the S6 is better (Cam, Battery, Speed of Hardware, Stock Launcher, Stock OS, Speaker,...)
But the edges of the S6 edge was useless for me, makes the display smaller, and often I had false inputs (because of the edges). I couldn't play Games good cause of the edges.
And... I think there will be never a good working cm ROM cause of the (really good) processor.
Just my 2cents.

Hello, I wouldn't buy a smartphone with only 32 GB and no SD-Slot.
If you choose a S6 go for the 128GB variant.
The S6 is a very good Phone but no SD-Slot and no changeable battery would be a no go for me.
The LG G4 has on the pro side a SD-Slot which supports micro SD up to 2 TB (if ever available) and the Phone itself has 32 GB build in.
In my case I got for the price of the S6 with 128GB a LG G4 with 32 GB build in and a 200GB micro SD.
...and last but not least the Camera of the LG G4 is at least as good as the S6 camera and faster because of the Laser autofocus.
Greetings

I recently changed from G3 to G4... But I feel like G3 was the best. Maybe because I had a rooted, bootloader unlocked and running cm12.1 rom on G3...
On my current ATT g4 (h810), we've only progressed as far as rooting and installing xposed. Maybe if we had a method of unlocking bootloader to get twrp/Cwm, g4 ..
But yea.. Hardware wise, g4 runs snapdragon808 while g3 runs snapdragon800.
So yea hardware wise G4 is definitely better. But when it comes to software, g4 is behind g3.
Consider mot x pure edition too, if you like pure android and faster updates.
I've a Nexus 5 32Gb, I'm a very young Android developer and I would to change my Nexus 5 with a Nexus 5X, also for Android N.
1) For users that change N5 for N5X, what do you think?
2) If Android N will come on N5, do you buy anyway the N5X?
3) Specially, do you change your N5 for N5X (32GB) at 269€?
1) I used the Galaxy S5 for a bit before the Nexus 5X and prior to the Galaxy S5 I had the LG Nexus 5. I would say it's a good upgrade, although I would recommend grabbing it while it's on some sort of (promotional) sale
2) I don't think Android N will be coming out to the N5 (don't count on an official build)
3) Depends on your needs and wants

Yes, I know. Maybe I badly explain myself. If Nexus 5 have the N preview or N release, do you buy N5X?

I recently switched my N5 to a new N5X, and I'm satisfied with the change. Fingerprint sensor, better camera, more user space (16->32 GB), bigger battery.
Currently I'm running stock MHC19J along with franco.kernel r6 and I'm not experiencing any lags at all.

Well, I moved from my old N5 16GB to my new 5X 16GB, I don't use a lot of space thanks to the cloud and of course 269€ is a very good price (I paied 349 on playstore for 16GB).
I think that the N5X is better than N5 in all aspect, but of course the big differences are about camera, finger sensor, battery, screen, WiFi and 4G. Nand is also faster than the N5 nand (with encryption e a lot faster without encryption). N5X has a better build quality too.
About the SoC, the 808 is faster than 800, both phones have thermal trottling, the big difference is that while the N5X stops the big cluster, the N5 goes down to 1GHz after some times. Looking with this point of view the two devices, the N5X is faster if it's cold, slower when it's warm, faster when it's hot because there is a moment when the N5X has only the LITTLE cluster at max speed and the N5 is in trottling but at 1.57GHz and this make the N5 faster than N5X. However, the N5X still be faster than N5 looking it at 360°.
With a custom kernel (I use the ElementalX) is very fast. There is also the 2GB memory question, someone think that it's no enought, someone think that it's fine, but a lot of people come from 2GB RAM devices and they don't have any issue so...
Last point, keep in mind that N5X supports also the burst rate, 240fps recording with stock system too and EIS (this only with mod)
So
1) For users that change N5 for N5X, what do you think? I think what I wrote up
2) If Android N will come on N5, do you buy anyway the N5X? Yes of course
3) Specially, do you change your N5 for N5X (32GB) at 269€? It's a very good price, so yes

I had N5 - 16GB and bought 5X 32GB.
1. It works much faster and the battery is better, the size is almost the same, so it's OK for me.
2. Android N works great, even not rooted, I miss Xposed modules, but I can live without them for now.
3. I prefer Nexus line only, because of new updates and easy rooting...
4. The price difference for selling my n5 and buying 5X was about 100$, so again' it's fine by me (sold for about 250$, bought for 350$)
Thanks to all!

I also use ElementalX on N5, I think to use it on N5X. Do you have "problem" with only 2GB of ram?

Me too, I would only Nexus.
A question for all of three:
Buy a Nexus 5X now or wait for a new Nexus?

Hey man,
1. I had an N5, dropped it a week ago, and cracked the screen. Decided to sell it, and for another 200 euro, I bought the N5X. I think it was worth it.
Phone has 2x better battery (6h SoT easy with my usage, 3h if I try hard with the N5), screen is better, a bit bigger, but build quality is sooo much better. Also better camera.
2. Android N is NOT coming to the N5. It started with Android 4.4, got 5, then 5.1, now 6. It will not get Android N officially.
3. I had a 16GB N5, and bought 16GB N5X, because 16GB N5X is 300 euro here, the 32GB is around 400. And to be honest, I have my music in the Google Play Music cloud (you can add 50 000 songs for FREE!), so storage is not a problem. In fact, I have absolutely nothing on the phone, except apps and the system. Photos sync to google photos, and I delete them, videos - I copy over to my PC. So it depends, but for me, 16GB is enough.
And a note, I hope more people read this.
At first, I was so unhappy with the N5X - it was lagging alot, stuttering, everything was opening sooo slow. It drove me mad. I was waiting for october-november to sell this phone and get the new Nexus.
But then came android version MHC19J, and boy, is this a different phone. Silky smooth, swaps between apps nicely, better than ever. Everything runs like a dream. And then I flashed the Franco kernel on it, and it got even better.
So, ditch the good ol N5 (Don't get me wrong, the N5 is such a great device) and get a N5X. And if you ask me, don't flash android n preview. It is a step back, in terms of performance. There is too much lag, and changes are mostly visual, for now.

Thanks for your reply. Now is faster than N5?
Same question that I just made for other users:
Buy N5X now or wait for new Nexus?
It is noticeably faster than the N5.
If you can, wait for the next nexus. I needed a new phone so I bought the N5x and I'm happy.
You can always do like me. Buy the N5x and if the new nexus is worth it, sell the N5x and buy the new one. You lose some money but you get to have your cake and eat it at the same time.

Hey guys!
So I currently have a Galaxy S6 from Verizon, and I am deeply disappointed with it. Since my bootloader is locked, I can't flash any ROMs to improve my terrible battery life. (1.5 hrs SOT, power saving location, power saving mode, auto brightness, etc. Phone still needs to be charger 2 times a day). I was thinking of either getting the OP3 or the Nexus 6P? Is anyone in the same boat as me? I'd love to bounce some ideas around and see what other's recommend.
Since this is oneplus 3 section, I think everyone will say you should get op3. I'd get it myself. Looks a lot better device.

I'm selling my Nexus 6P to buy a OnePlus 3. For me it's all about the dual SIM. Here's what I'll miss about the Nexus 6P (Great phone): QHD display. Stereo speakers at each end of the phone. Also the fingerprint sensor is great: works every time (unlike many I have tried). I hope the OP3 fingerprint sensor will be as good.

Nice, hope you like the OP3! The dual SIM doesn't matter to me, since I only travel internationally once every 2 years or so. Yeah, I feel you on the screen. I'm going to miss the camera and screen of my S6 for sure. From the videos and reviews I've seen/read, it seems like the fingerprint scanner is very good. Seems to function better than that of the S6.

Yeah, but I hope that there are other people out there that are stuck between the two. Especially since the nexus has a price drop atm.

Sorry, I should've clarified. The nexus is on sale in America right now. The 64 GB is going for 480 (however 32 is more than enough for me.)
I'm also considering to sell my 6p to buy the OP3. I have been kind of disappointed in the 6p because of the screen and battery life. My screen goes from a pink bottom to a yellowish top. I'd rather have a good 1080p screen then a bad QHD screen. And like somebody mentioned in the EU I can sell the 6p without paying much extra to get a brand new op3.

You should get 350-400 euro`s on Marktplaats for your 6P depending on the storage size.
I am confused too. I own a 64gb Nexus 6p. Disappointed with sd810. Heats too much while gaming. But the quicker official android updates and dual front firing speakers are awesome. I''' loose better camera too. Though I'll get sd820 and 6gb ram and I will make profit if I sell my 6p and buy op3. Really confused :-/
The problem is mainly the size and price. You get a bit smaller device for less money. Actually i dont like 810 serie, so i would probably stick to OP3 since they open to modding after errors with OP2. Probably 6P is better on CAM+Speakers and MAYBE screen.
I also have a Nexus 6P.
- It's REALLY big.
- I don't like the back fingerprint sensor
I'm considering to switch to the OP3 too..... but Nexus updates are every month and i would like to have android pay work with a rooted phone.....

I've heard good things about the Nexus 6P's battery life generally though. Is it not that good?

In the same boat bro. Tell me if you make any decision. I can profit by selling 6P and buying Op3 currently.
What I'll miss if I switched is stereo speakers and quick latest updates !
I was happy with my 6p for a bit, then the crappy aluminum(bent near the charging port) and screen brightness got to me. Should not have to root to see the thing outdoors.
+battery life sucked on mine (usually had trouble getting 3 hours SoT, i get 6 from my mate 8 in the same usage and 10 when using it at home)

Are you staying with Verizon?
The Op3 only works with AT&T or T-Mobile in the U.S.

Does anyone here have a OP3? If so, can you really tell the difference between 1080p and 2k?

I currently have a nexus 6, but I'm torn on upgrading to possibly a 6p, one plus 3, or just waiting for the next nexus. I'm currently on att, but have been contemplating on switching to project fi.

If you want to sell it because of screen issues, then I will advice you to wait for reviews of the screen on the Oneplus 3 to see if it has no isues.
Beside the battery i would say that the 3 wins nearly ever, aspect.
The problems i have with the nexus is that they are released only a short period before qualcom releases jts new CPU and then i always want to wait to get a devoce with the new cpu.
