Fluctuating signal on CM based roms - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

It seems like the roms that are based on CM make my signal go crazy, jumps from two bars to full to nothing very often, is this common with anyone else? Is there a fix, or has someone with this problem found a solution?
Thanks in advance.

This problem also present on AOSP based ROMs but not severe as CM based rom.

[Q] Any solution to the ICS random WIFI disconnect?

I've read quite a few posts mentioning this but haven't seen any solutions. I'm running Phantom Blazer's ICS ROM with AGAT's newest kernel. Are all ICS ROMs facing this problem or this is specific to Phantom's ROM? If there isn't a solution to this I'll need to go back to GB, I've missed some important emails from work due to this problem.
how did you flash to blazers rom? Did you do a full wipe or no data, I've been seeing a lot of posts about ics bugs where the poster tried to do a nodata flash, this is known to cause lots of wide ranging issues... personally I'm currently on mijjazs goodness but run aokp and cm9 regularly as well, I've not had any issues with wifi disconnecting, and believe me I would notice, I use wifi for most everything as sprint data is mostly unuseable in my area

Well, one possible solution for now may be to try another wireless router if you have one. I don't know the root cause of this problem, but I do know I had horrible disconnect issues at my girlfriends house after updating (to stock rooted FF18), but no issues at mine. She has a Netgear router, I have an Airport Extreme. they both relatively new. I brought my previous Airport Extreme to her house and set it up. Now I no longer have disconnects at her place either. This doesn't fix whatever is wrong with the phone, but it works...
I have tried all the roms every 1 of them! with a fresh install and wipe everything and wifi disconnects on every 1 of them
I.also did a fresh install using caulkalin's format all zip. My router is an older linksys. Never had any Wi-Fi issues with it on my galaxy s1(fascinate). Anyone know of any developers here have taken a look at what might be causing this?

it definitely has something to do with the rom, when I am on e l 29 my phone never disconnects, when I flash any I c s rom, I get random disconnects.
Its ff18 TW....I used aokp and now cm9 but didn't have this issue. I did flash quite a few roms besides these and it always happened on tw based roms only.

Thanks, Dante. I'm running AOKP and wifi disconnect seems to be fixed now. Unfortunately battery life isn't nearly as good but I'll do some reading and hopefully find a way to improve it.

Yeah happens to me too. But only when I have a weak wifi signal. Doesn't happen at home. Maybe due to the crappy routers in free wifi.

You can also try cm9...chris41g built a kernel for it where you can now control the governor and processor. Battery life has been awesome, plus no wifi issues. Too bad the kernel doesn't work on aokp yet.

Nobody really answered your question as to whether this was a 'known' ics issue. And I'm not going to suggest that you 'buy a new router just in case'. What I will tell you is that I have the same problem, but unfortunatley I'm on the same ROM as you, so I can't rule that out. But there's definitely an issue and it is definitely associated with ICS; would be interested in what non-Blazer folks are seeing.
I've been on AOKP for a full day now. Still no problems with Wi-Fi and I may have spoken too soon about the battery. I'm at 12 hours at 56% with 3 hours screen time which is a lot better than I got on my s1. I love all the options on this rom too. Loving having my 4 way lock screen back.

In case you're still seeing this problem - I switched to Blend ICS FF18 / Goodness 16.6 and the wi-fi problem would seem to have disappeared. I suspect the issue is/was somewhere in the Blazer ROM. I'd ask if the dev was working on it, but probably get flamed; that ROM hasn't been updated in a while anyway, so you might want to try Blend anyway.
I am having the same issues. My Wifi goes up and down every 5 seconds which kills my battery. Mine started on stock phone on GB 2 weeks ago on EL29 (phone was not modified or rooted). I was hoping rooting and flashing to CM9 would fix it. It has not, I have tried multiple modems as well. Any suggestions?
I have a 4 month old NetGear router. All other Wifi devices in the house are working fine.
Its probably just kernel related or router issue, been running blu kuban ics which is touchwiz based and never had a wifi issue. The kernel is sourced build by rujeluss22 with it's own modified recovery based on agat's recovery. Try it out, you guys might like it.

So I am still having a random disconnect wifi issues on Phantom Blazer rom just like the stock FF18 from sprint

This is not a router issue, unless it effects every router I've connected to since changing to ICS. (dozens)

Anybody found a possible solution yet? I've never had this issue on sprint's stock GB. Currently running Blazer AGAT 0.4.0
Haven't had any problems with this setup. overall ff18 sucks for many of us.

So you think it's the modem? Is the modem even responsible for WiFi? I though it was responsible for cell connection only

Low reception with AOSP

So today's I was in some building and I was on CM10 but had no signal at all. Check with another S4 running TW and it had a couple of bars. As well as an S3. I went to another aosp rom and still the same thing. Is there anything i need to tweak to get better signal or is that the way AOSP roms are?
Afaik it's just the way aosp reports your reception. It actually should be exactly the same in dbm's as any TW rom.

[Q] Do AOSP-based ROMS negatively affect Reception?

I've read various threads where people discuss that the use of an AOSP-based ROM resulted in poorer radio performance, and some saying that this persisted even *after* flashing back to stock or other sense-based ROM. The latter is what is keeping me from trying out any of the AOSP-based ROMs available. I don't want to irreversibly worsen reception, because I really, REALLY hated dealing with that issue on my Galaxy Nexus.
Any thoughts?

I ran PACman for a while before switching to Bonestock...I never noticed any difference in reception. I ran a few speed tests before, during and after PACman and they were are fairly similar.

Isn't the radio flashed separately from the ROM? I flashed tons of roms with my s3 and never really noticed a difference in reception.
Go under about phones and look at the signal strength in there and bet sense or aosp it will be the same. Never go by the bars as you can make them read whatever you want them to.

There have been several folks who, after flashing an AOSP ROM, can't get cell service (only data) when reverting back to stock. It's not just s question of bar deception.

I've experienced reception issues and lag w/ AOSP roms. The phone is just designed for Sense imho...

I've noticed signal strength dings on some aosp roms but not all oddly enough. I do seem to get the best signal on sense based roms though (GPE roms and the like).

You need to remember that AOSP roms are hacked together for phones that were never meant to run it. I'm not trying to discourage anyone from flashing those roms since that's up to reach person, but no AOSP rom will ever run as good as a Sense rom. It's just the nature of things.

I've yet to see any sense rom run better than a nightly, let alone a stable build (from a pure performance standpoint)
As far as the OP- Signals will be within 0-5db depending on the rom, and that's only because we're on a CDMA device with a closed source RIL.

I love aosp roms, but I tend to agree with you.
With my s3, I noticed a difference with my signal in certain places using aosp vs stock rom. But with the One, I haven't noticed a signal difference.

I don't just mean signal. I mean in general. You will never find an AOSP rom for a non-nexus device that has everything working on par with the stock rom.
There are always things that are slightly buggy, or require some sort of hacky workaround or whatnot.

Sorry you are wrong neo has aosp roms on the rezound that runs better than sense and data is spot on.

Some will say yes, but they are using the subjective "bars" and not the actual dBm to check ratings. I haven't noticed any change in signal when I used it in the past on CM and whatnot.
I've had terrible signal strength lately (using dBm numbers) and wondered if something was wrong with my phone until I read this. Are there any other threads discussing the issue and possible solutions? If I can't fix this I'm going to have to get back to a locked bootloader and S-on and swap the phone out. -110 signal as a norm just isn't cutting it.
I don't see the bog deal with the higher numbers. Here are my numbers on sense. They are no difference thsn what you are getting on aosp. One is in a better coverage are where the other is on the front. I notice no difference in performance of the data.
The higher number one had it jump to 116 but does not interfere with tethering. You can try to swap out your phone but doubt they will do it and most likely you live right on the edge of the 4g coverage. My pictures shows sense and those are the same numbers I got while on aosp.

With my Nexus, I sat in a parking lot and went from one Rom to another, I noticed a difference in the numbers and surfing the web.
A kernel developer back then did say flashing various roms could impact signal strength.
I'll bet this topic has been discussed more times than we can count, but it's always nice to get a new perspective. Wouldn't you agree?

I've had this issue but only in a few ROMs. The most impacting one was on CM Remix by JustinX, even when a call comes in the screen takes around 5 to 6 seconds to light up and in somecases the call is missed.
I've been using Mahdi ROM for the past few days and haven't had that issue again so it might be only in a couple of ROMs depending on their source i gues..
No wake lag here. Running newest DU with stock kernel (glitch)

Need a stable ROM for robin.

Currently on stock 1450 build, experiencing occasional freezes and low battery life. So can anyone suggest me a stable ROM with least bugs (MM or N).

I mean omni looks pretty cool. Thinking about switching over this weekend
Your issues might not be ROM related, there are a lot of app issues and inter-app compatibility issues that will cause those symptoms. I would say to Backup and Factory Reset, then load your apps one-at-a-time until you have the lockups/freezing.

Seems like PA is the most stable right now with 6.0.3. Or you could apply for the beta build of Nougat
