I've read quite a few posts mentioning this but haven't seen any solutions. I'm running Phantom Blazer's ICS ROM with AGAT's newest kernel. Are all ICS ROMs facing this problem or this is specific to Phantom's ROM? If there isn't a solution to this I'll need to go back to GB, I've missed some important emails from work due to this problem.
how did you flash to blazers rom? Did you do a full wipe or no data, I've been seeing a lot of posts about ics bugs where the poster tried to do a nodata flash, this is known to cause lots of wide ranging issues... personally I'm currently on mijjazs goodness but run aokp and cm9 regularly as well, I've not had any issues with wifi disconnecting, and believe me I would notice, I use wifi for most everything as sprint data is mostly unuseable in my area

Well, one possible solution for now may be to try another wireless router if you have one. I don't know the root cause of this problem, but I do know I had horrible disconnect issues at my girlfriends house after updating (to stock rooted FF18), but no issues at mine. She has a Netgear router, I have an Airport Extreme. they both relatively new. I brought my previous Airport Extreme to her house and set it up. Now I no longer have disconnects at her place either. This doesn't fix whatever is wrong with the phone, but it works...
I have tried all the roms every 1 of them! with a fresh install and wipe everything and wifi disconnects on every 1 of them
I.also did a fresh install using caulkalin's format all zip. My router is an older linksys. Never had any Wi-Fi issues with it on my galaxy s1(fascinate). Anyone know of any developers here have taken a look at what might be causing this?

it definitely has something to do with the rom, when I am on e l 29 my phone never disconnects, when I flash any I c s rom, I get random disconnects.
Its ff18 TW....I used aokp and now cm9 but didn't have this issue. I did flash quite a few roms besides these and it always happened on tw based roms only.

Thanks, Dante. I'm running AOKP and wifi disconnect seems to be fixed now. Unfortunately battery life isn't nearly as good but I'll do some reading and hopefully find a way to improve it.

Yeah happens to me too. But only when I have a weak wifi signal. Doesn't happen at home. Maybe due to the crappy routers in free wifi.

You can also try cm9...chris41g built a kernel for it where you can now control the governor and processor. Battery life has been awesome, plus no wifi issues. Too bad the kernel doesn't work on aokp yet.

Nobody really answered your question as to whether this was a 'known' ics issue. And I'm not going to suggest that you 'buy a new router just in case'. What I will tell you is that I have the same problem, but unfortunatley I'm on the same ROM as you, so I can't rule that out. But there's definitely an issue and it is definitely associated with ICS; would be interested in what non-Blazer folks are seeing.
I've been on AOKP for a full day now. Still no problems with Wi-Fi and I may have spoken too soon about the battery. I'm at 12 hours at 56% with 3 hours screen time which is a lot better than I got on my s1. I love all the options on this rom too. Loving having my 4 way lock screen back.

In case you're still seeing this problem - I switched to Blend ICS FF18 / Goodness 16.6 and the wi-fi problem would seem to have disappeared. I suspect the issue is/was somewhere in the Blazer ROM. I'd ask if the dev was working on it, but probably get flamed; that ROM hasn't been updated in a while anyway, so you might want to try Blend anyway.
I am having the same issues. My Wifi goes up and down every 5 seconds which kills my battery. Mine started on stock phone on GB 2 weeks ago on EL29 (phone was not modified or rooted). I was hoping rooting and flashing to CM9 would fix it. It has not, I have tried multiple modems as well. Any suggestions?
I have a 4 month old NetGear router. All other Wifi devices in the house are working fine.
Its probably just kernel related or router issue, been running blu kuban ics which is touchwiz based and never had a wifi issue. The kernel is sourced build by rujeluss22 with it's own modified recovery based on agat's recovery. Try it out, you guys might like it.

This is not a router issue, unless it effects every router I've connected to since changing to ICS. (dozens)

So you think it's the modem? Is the modem even responsible for WiFi? I though it was responsible for cell connection only

I recently rooted my Galaxy S2 and put in the Caulkin's Custom ROM. The baseband I have is EK02 and the Kernel Version is EL29. My Wifi connection keeps on dropping.
Can anybody help me on this?
You could always try to flash your modem to EL29 ... It seems better on battery and more stable in my opinion.
You mean to upgrade my baseband from EK02 to EL29 right?
wifi keeps dropping
my galaxy s2 have the same problem.. and everytime i have to toggle wifi and it will connect again..
i have the same experience with stock.. and calkulin's rom... and various different kernel / modem
i am now on EL26.. and it's the same..
your wifi will just continue to drop..
it's so annoying that i am contemplating to switch to a different phone..

Make sure the sleep policy is set to NEVER.
And also, alot of people, including myself, had horrible battery drain with EL26 and EL29. I flashed the Ek02 modem and EL13 kernel, and my battery life is back to being awesome.
I got it resolved. Once I upgraded it to EL29 the problem seems to be gone. Now my wifi seems to be stable. The sleep policy is set to never. I am going to test with the EL29 and see how my battery life is. If it is bad then as per your suggestion I will revert to EK02 and EL13.
In the future, is it also a good idea to reprovision the phone after switching things like modems. That will give everything a fresh start. For those who are unsure the Toolkit link in my signature had instructions for the Hand Free Reset (reprovision) process.

after trying most roms, I have come to a conclusion! Aokp beautiful smooth great rom, has terrible data loss (los) both wifi and 3g. blue kuban rom, good rom many many features, no matter how many times I wipe and reinstall, I keep losing wifi. and f f 18, scrolling is too laggy. Cm9 LOS! ! ! Badly... Smooth and beautiful ROM, but I have to have data, and I have to the other make a call. So it was a no go for these roms. I'm thinking that we will just have to wait for source kernel to evolve. I have no doubt that these two roms will be the best soon.

CM9 Alpha 6 has some weird Data LOS but I assure you was not in Alpha 5 if that was your issue (Alpha 5 doesnt have recovery). Nightly 7-11 seemed to have been fine on that issue. If battery life was an issue the last Nightly that was FF11 kernel based (6-29?) is great as well as having a safe recovery baked in.
Just a thought on CM9 until the next release. Its my daily and I am never going back.
So I guess the point was, or is, you suffered los.. . Just curious..

I really tried to like cm 9 but with the data loss it was just a no go. I originally went with the 712 build, quickly realized that was a bad idea and went with the 711 build. after a full wipe I still had data loss. if I can get data work properly on that that would be my favorite rom!

I'm not sure what the triggers are! But in cm 9 and a o k p I could only get data back by restarting and even then it will come back sometimes.

While I don't see anything wrong with creating a thread about your issues, I feel it would have been more productive to have it in the Q&A section. Asking if others had the same findings as you and what they might have done to resolve them seems like a better way. While I don't think you meant it to come across this way, it could be read by some that those roms you listed have problems that many many other folks are just not seeing. The fact that your seeing similar issues across so many options, maybe some basic troubleshooting questions needs to be asked.

When is it NOT happening to others? Still outstanding. So is it that others are less sensitive to the phenomenon? Is it geographical? Is it some external factor like a common app you use or a specific setting or procedure you follow when setting up your phone? Are you using the FF18 modem for all these builds you tried? Etc. Etc.
I am not discounting your findings or saying your wrong at all, just suggesting you indict the phenomenon and not the rom until everything else is ruled out. I for one have been running ICS leaks since April and have only seen LOS to be a problem specific to one early leak and the fd02 modem. And even then I can't prove it was the modem.

I understand the E4GT just got ICS, and, according to many people, it is filled with bugs. But would making an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean ROM be too terribly hard? As I understand, the reason making the ICS ROMs was so difficult was because it was a massive upgrade that completely skipped one step in between. Hence why the update took so long in the first place. But since Jelly Bean is just a few enhancements over ICS, would it be difficult to port a Jelly Bean build over to the E4GT? Just a thought I had jumbling around in the ol' noodle lol Thank you for any answers or responses

To correct your understanding, ICS ROMs (as in TouchWiz) weren't difficult to make at all. It was ROMS like AOKP, CM9, etc that were more difficult. It was mainly due to not having kernel source for ICS. There are already some developers working on porting Jelly Bean over, you'll just have to wait a little bit more.

My battery life has seemed extensively better than with el29. That's not to say I didn't have satisfactory battery life prior to ff18. I seem to get maybe 12 or 13 hours out of ff18 whereas I would only get 10 or so with el29. Then again, I'm also constantly tweaking my running tasks and such so my battery life generally is much longer than many of my friends lol but yes I have seen some major improvements all across the board with ICS, as well as some bugs here and there.

I manually updated to ff18 from the post by sfhub including what he said was the exact same build as the OTA update. The process used odin to flash the build onto my phone. Upon recieving the update, after a day of use I had some debilitating lag and hanging all over the place. So I was curious as to what wiping the cache and such would do. I went into the stock recovery (not CWM) and did a wipe data/factory reset, then wipe dalvik cache, then I did a reboot from stock recovery. Since then, the only bugs I have noticed are the task manager aesthetic bug, and a few hang ups here and there. However, battery life hasn't been an issue, I haven't had issues with wifi or force closing, and overall it has been an enjoyable experience. I still use the ff18 build daily.

Don't do a factory reset with the stock recovery. That bricked a lot of phones. Even the OTA FF18 stock kernel was released with this bug. Use one of Agat63's new kernels or Calkulins format all zip. No bricks reported with either of those methods.
ICS Battery life.
I haven't tried factory reseting or wiping cache, but I know personally my battery life went to $hit when I tried any and all ICS leaks. I get far superior battery life out of el29 gingerbread with MIUI on my S2. Only way I think I'll update to ICS is if Jellybean comes out to put over top of it.
For what it's worth, when I first rooted my E4GT back in May I had terrible battery life as well. It has come a long way. There are lots of ROM's to choose from but the Blu Kuban (you have to enjoy the theme) has been excellent with battery life. I had 24 hrs yesterday with email, voice, some messaging and web. Attached is a screen shot showing what I have as of now. Of course there are apps that drain the phone but they did that on GB as well. I have not regretted ICS at all.

Still had trouble with ics and el 29. I tried just running GB but that message never goes away. Its always trying to download and killing my battery and connection. I never had this niche trouble with my evo 4g
There's an unrooted trick that is said to kill the update notification.

The devs did a great job with the ROMs but its not the same like gingerbread since Samsung and sprint screwed our ICS, every custom ROM I tryed still has that nasty super fast scroll, it has that glitchy freezing up a bit also when scrolling. OP if you want ICS you will need to get on an aosp ROM or cm9 and aokp that's the closest and smoothness of ICS you will get or you could just roll back to gingerbread.
Another thing is there's a lot of folks that would claim how smooth these ICS custom ROMs are but in reality it isn't its either you guys are blind or your just to into and to used to ICS that it blended in you guys soul.every time I roll back to gingerbread I see a huge difference in smoothness and butter heck even these jellybean aosp and cm10 ROMs are way smoother then the ICS that Samsung and sprint gave us.

Maybe I'll try a jellybean ROM. With the short gap between ICS and JB, i wonder if ICS is the Vista of Android.

One piece of advice: Go get sfhub's stock ek02 or eg30 auto package. Start from the beginning and go back and flash an ICS ROM. That usually fixes any bugs. :good:
I don't know about the other ICS ROMs but I have tried CM9 and Blu Kuban and they come as close to perfection as we could've gotten without source kernel. Haven't fully tried ICS since just because I prefer the better battery life of GB though.
I'm on cm10 and the battery is much better than anything I got in ICS, and I've tried half the ROMs out there. Blue kuban, codename, cm9, aokp, etc. The cm10 ROM is freaking amazing. Honestly, try it. You won't regret it
Swyped from a Galaxy S2 on CM10

I might try cm10, but I've tried CM on this phone and the evo4g I had and they were both horrible experiences.
I'm getting pretty decent battery on pics and not to many bugs lol.don't use 4g.task manager doesn't kill me. So its working beautifully for me

Also I hope you are not restoring apps and data when downgrading etc. Start clean 100%.

Look, if you are doing everything right as you say, and are having problems that are making your phone "hell," the problem is likely your device itself. I have personally never had issues with any ICS builds, from the leaks, to the OTAs, to CM9. And the latest FH23 leak gives me excellent battery life. Unfortunately, since you didn't give any more information to go on than the fact that you phone has been hell, I have no further advice to give you then to get your phone replaced. Again, I have had no issues with ICS. Running much smoother than GB.

I have never had any battery life issues. All my problems revolve around the phone part of my smart phone. I didn't start a thread to cry as as one jerk off suggested, I am having huge problems around ICS that is making my phone worthless. Even this replacement phone that i just activated is getting **** phone reception compared to my old one with GB. If they both have ICS installed they both get crap signal. I wonder.if its related to Sprint.

First thing, have you updated profile and PRL? If so, have you tried using the ODIN one-click to go back to EL29 ROM, kernel, and modem? Let's start there. If you are having no issues using EL29 as I suggested, we can further explore this being an ICS-related issue. Otherwise, it could very well be Sprint. If that works fine, use ODIN to install the latest FH23 leaked ROM, kernel, and modem. Forget flashing through recovery for now, and only use the one-clicks that erase user data. Also, do you have these issues everywhere you go, or is this localized to a particular area? To put it simply, for 2 phones to be having an identical problem (given a device that is not really known for having problems) is very strange, which leads me to blame Sprint in your particular area. But if you say that you did not have these issues on GB, let's explore that further. ODIN EL29 and report back.

I've also tried AOKP, CM and JB Roms - liked many of them but GPS was horrible. I even tried the temp el29 to lock GPS then go back but eventually my GPS performance degraded. I finally decided to go back to Touchwiz Rom but I guess all the flashing permanently degraded my GPS. I was about to get a new phone when I tried one last ditch effort. Make a long story short it worked. Here's what I did.
1. Go back to El29 stock Rom
2. Either OTA update to FF18 or manual update FF18 and FH13
GPS works great!
I also used one click Odin to install CWM - one click ff18 Odin: option during then option en for ff18 kernel with agat recovery 4
Finally I updated my modem to FI03 for better 3/4G.

Did u tried any other rom after that?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
Yes, several times with same poor GPS. I also tried different kernels that I liked for battery savings such as Kobridge and Agat but GPS was not as good. So I One click Odin back to FF18 stock with Agat recovery. I think my phones GPS likes stock Rom and recovery. I should mention that my wife's phone had the same issue and I did the same process to fix her GPS. But her phone's GPS works great with Agats battery tweek kernel. She has great GPS and great battery life. Go figure...

I too have been having bad GPS issues.
First I was on CM10 alpha 5.1 and I couldn't even maintain GPS signal in the I95 from NYC to Hartford, CT!
I then switched to Codename Android (latest one and what I'm on now) which was a lot better and held signal during a 2nd trip up to Hartford. But yesterday I lost signal going up to Bear Mountain (where I've never lost GPS before with previous phones and so had to switch to my wife's iphone for directions).
So I'm thinking I'll have to make the switch too.
But I wanted to ask cd7 if you've ever tried other TW roms like Calkulin 3.0 or re-Calked 0.2.1 for GPS strength? or am I stuck with stock roms forever in order to have consistent GPS?
thanks!

You have to use a temp gingerbread Rom to get a lock.

Thank you for the suggestion.
However, I did do the GPS lock from Calkulin's 3.0 (GB) then flash to the various roms.
I learned that the hard way after not being able to get a signal at all after flashing cm10 the first time.
My problem is that the signal keeps dropping when I travel longer distances (signal is fine when I'm driving around NYC). CM10 alpha 5 was was pretty spotty and would take longer to get a GPS signal. CNA (codename) was a lot better, quick lock and stay locked from NYC to hartford, but still would lose signal in some more rural areas (whereas other phones ie. my wife's iphone or my older LG android phone never had issues).
That's why, like cd7, I'm thinking of having to just go back to a TW rom, but hoping that I don't have to stick with stock forever and can at least use some of Calkulin's stuff.
