Best kernel for WiFi reception?

I'm I'm currently running destroyer v2 based on cm7 and wifi reception is terrible. Always dropping out on me. Been tempted to try the latest titanium kernel to see if that would help. But before I do that I thought I would get other peoples opinions on what to do..

Try out the new Tiamat Kernel. I've noticed a slight improvement in WIFI range, and a stellar improvement in battery life.

Also is it possible to just switch out just the kernel without losing the rom I have installed right now? Only way I know how is by starting all over and installing everything at once. Please help, thanks

stroll over to the the development section and check them all out for yourself and yes you can switch out kernels. Also there is an app called kernel manager to check out kernels. One more thing its obvious you are not a chronic flasher like a lot of us so please remember nandroid and read up- As the saying goes here "Google is your Friend". Especially all the OP's of kernels and roms... hate to see you brick your device... Happy flashing

hmmm, can you prove this fact. i have aosp rom now and use my wifi while at home since it uses less battery than mobile data, but the wifi stays connected, full bars at all times im actually able to walk out to my truck and stay connected to my wifi where as before i rooted and was connected to wifi, i would lose wifi connection once i stepped out the door.

What rom are you using?

sprint hotspot question

any rom out there which has the sprint hotspot hack in it? i think i heard starburst has it but its based on a leaked rom el26. im currently running el29 and wanted one with the same rom.
im coming from an evo4g so i dont even know how to load the darn rom on the phone. i bought it rooted already.

Mijjah74 has a real nice ice cream sandwich ROM.
Or Strongsteve's odexed awesome blue themed ROM which is gingerbread based.
I ran with Strong's for the longest time as a daily driver and loved it but currently fell trap to the ICS hype....both of those Dev's are awesome and update regularly.

looking for mostly stock rom that has sprint hotspot included

On GB EL29 I'm using FoxFi and it works great for wireless tethering.

Starburst is quite old, it hasn't been updated in a while. The same developer, however, has released a second ROM called Blazer ROM. In my opinion Blazer Rom is the best ROM for this phone at the moment. Incredible batter life, butter smooth performance, ICS theme, and Hotspot hack. It really is the whole package, I suggest you try it out.

Have to agree with you there.
Caulkins E4GT GB 2.9.2 bare ROM, FB27 modem, rogue gunslinger kernel on one EPIC beast of a phone.

Blazer rom has the hotspot hack I use it all the time
But its hell on battery life and heat

hotspot not working correctly
Anyone one know why my hotspot will D/C after about 5 min? Everything connects perfectly and lets me surf and I can log into xbox live but after a few minutes it just turns off. I made sure that the connection time out is set to never time out. I was also using sqlite editor to check system databases to see if there was a sleep mode but i don't see anything. I never had this problem until it seems like i flashed calkulin's ics rom. Ive also formatted and re installed his rom and re-installed the apk several times but nothing has changed. I'm going to try the wifi tether apk but I am having problems trying to get the phone to send the internet to my comp.

Starburst does have the hack and works great. It was my favorite gb rom.

Check to see if you have wifi sleep policy is turned to always on. Sounds like screen turning off is shutting off wifi or task killer is killing the hotspot app.

I am a newbie here so please be understanding.
I am using Calkulins Stock Rooted FC14 ROM on my SPH-D710 and am trying to get the Sprint Hotspot to work. Can someone direct me to a tutorial on how what to download and how to enable it. I am not running CWM anymore because calkuins format all zip zapped it.
Hugh shout out to QBKing77 and Calkulins. The ROM is awesome and could not have done it without the QBKing77 vids.

The Sprint Hotspot should be in your app drawer. However, it is the real version, not the hacked version. So, if you don't have the extra plan with Sprint it won't work. The hacked version that the devs put in their non-stock ROMs bypass the Sprint authentication process. Once you start up the hotspot program, it's pretty self explanatory.

Modems

Hey guys I was wondering what do the modems do for our phones?..
And please don't give me heat about using search or using google because I did both, just trying to get a general answer!! Thanks in advance

Modems are in charge of how your GPS, 4g, 3g and singles run. newer modems can show overall improvement on signal performance. but some are better than others depending on your phone. but normally newer modems run smoother then past modems.
The reason saying why some are better than others depending on your phone is because some modems react differently with this phone.
Lets say that we both put the new FC07 modem on our phones. you might experience better performance than I do. yet if I install the FC06 modem I might get better performance than the FC07 modem.
I have flashed a lot of Rom's, Kernels, and Modems and have always seen an improvement with the newer modems.

I'm using an ics rom (cm9) to be exact and want to use FC07 modem.. my question is will I have to switch the modem if I decide to use a gingerbread rom again?.. will the modem screw with the signal? Thanks for the fast response

Having a modem that is ICS specific doesn't really matter when going back to Gingerbread. a kernel on the other hand from my experience.. I always got a hangup.. you should be fine when you are on a gingerbread Rom with a ICS modem

You can use any modem with whatever version of android you're running. I am on a GB version, running newest FC07 leak modem, works brilliant. (even though it seems that FC05 worked a bit better....) modems are completely independent of the version of android you're running.
Kernels are android version specific. GB kernels for GB roms, ICS kerns for ICS roms, they do not mix. unless you like bricks.

[Q] Any solution to the ICS random WIFI disconnect?

I've read quite a few posts mentioning this but haven't seen any solutions. I'm running Phantom Blazer's ICS ROM with AGAT's newest kernel. Are all ICS ROMs facing this problem or this is specific to Phantom's ROM? If there isn't a solution to this I'll need to go back to GB, I've missed some important emails from work due to this problem.

how did you flash to blazers rom? Did you do a full wipe or no data, I've been seeing a lot of posts about ics bugs where the poster tried to do a nodata flash, this is known to cause lots of wide ranging issues... personally I'm currently on mijjazs goodness but run aokp and cm9 regularly as well, I've not had any issues with wifi disconnecting, and believe me I would notice, I use wifi for most everything as sprint data is mostly unuseable in my area

Well, one possible solution for now may be to try another wireless router if you have one. I don't know the root cause of this problem, but I do know I had horrible disconnect issues at my girlfriends house after updating (to stock rooted FF18), but no issues at mine. She has a Netgear router, I have an Airport Extreme. they both relatively new. I brought my previous Airport Extreme to her house and set it up. Now I no longer have disconnects at her place either. This doesn't fix whatever is wrong with the phone, but it works...

I have tried all the roms every 1 of them! with a fresh install and wipe everything and wifi disconnects on every 1 of them

I.also did a fresh install using caulkalin's format all zip. My router is an older linksys. Never had any Wi-Fi issues with it on my galaxy s1(fascinate). Anyone know of any developers here have taken a look at what might be causing this?

it definitely has something to do with the rom, when I am on e l 29 my phone never disconnects, when I flash any I c s rom, I get random disconnects.

Its ff18 TW....I used aokp and now cm9 but didn't have this issue. I did flash quite a few roms besides these and it always happened on tw based roms only.

Thanks, Dante. I'm running AOKP and wifi disconnect seems to be fixed now. Unfortunately battery life isn't nearly as good but I'll do some reading and hopefully find a way to improve it.

Yeah happens to me too. But only when I have a weak wifi signal. Doesn't happen at home. Maybe due to the crappy routers in free wifi.

You can also try cm9...chris41g built a kernel for it where you can now control the governor and processor. Battery life has been awesome, plus no wifi issues. Too bad the kernel doesn't work on aokp yet.

Nobody really answered your question as to whether this was a 'known' ics issue. And I'm not going to suggest that you 'buy a new router just in case'. What I will tell you is that I have the same problem, but unfortunatley I'm on the same ROM as you, so I can't rule that out. But there's definitely an issue and it is definitely associated with ICS; would be interested in what non-Blazer folks are seeing.

I've been on AOKP for a full day now. Still no problems with Wi-Fi and I may have spoken too soon about the battery. I'm at 12 hours at 56% with 3 hours screen time which is a lot better than I got on my s1. I love all the options on this rom too. Loving having my 4 way lock screen back.

In case you're still seeing this problem - I switched to Blend ICS FF18 / Goodness 16.6 and the wi-fi problem would seem to have disappeared. I suspect the issue is/was somewhere in the Blazer ROM. I'd ask if the dev was working on it, but probably get flamed; that ROM hasn't been updated in a while anyway, so you might want to try Blend anyway.

I am having the same issues. My Wifi goes up and down every 5 seconds which kills my battery. Mine started on stock phone on GB 2 weeks ago on EL29 (phone was not modified or rooted). I was hoping rooting and flashing to CM9 would fix it. It has not, I have tried multiple modems as well. Any suggestions?
I have a 4 month old NetGear router. All other Wifi devices in the house are working fine.

Its probably just kernel related or router issue, been running blu kuban ics which is touchwiz based and never had a wifi issue. The kernel is sourced build by rujeluss22 with it's own modified recovery based on agat's recovery. Try it out, you guys might like it.

This is not a router issue, unless it effects every router I've connected to since changing to ICS. (dozens)

Anybody found a possible solution yet? I've never had this issue on sprint's stock GB. Currently running Blazer AGAT 0.4.0

Haven't had any problems with this setup. overall ff18 sucks for many of us.

So you think it's the modem? Is the modem even responsible for WiFi? I though it was responsible for cell connection only

GPS problem on JB Rom?

Ever since I installed Aopk jb rom on my phone my gps havent come back to life, i went to diff roms like blue kuban and i got now cm 10 alpha 5.3 jb rom still gps not working, some1 help me? Also most roms comes without a voicemail app? Why?

I've also tried AOKP, CM and JB Roms - liked many of them but GPS was horrible. I even tried the temp el29 to lock GPS then go back but eventually my GPS performance degraded. I finally decided to go back to Touchwiz Rom but I guess all the flashing permanently degraded my GPS. I was about to get a new phone when I tried one last ditch effort. Make a long story short it worked. Here's what I did.
1. Go back to El29 stock Rom
2. Either OTA update to FF18 or manual update FF18 and FH13
GPS works great!
I also used one click Odin to install CWM - one click ff18 Odin: option during then option en for ff18 kernel with agat recovery 4
Finally I updated my modem to FI03 for better 3/4G.

Yes, several times with same poor GPS. I also tried different kernels that I liked for battery savings such as Kobridge and Agat but GPS was not as good. So I One click Odin back to FF18 stock with Agat recovery. I think my phones GPS likes stock Rom and recovery. I should mention that my wife's phone had the same issue and I did the same process to fix her GPS. But her phone's GPS works great with Agats battery tweek kernel. She has great GPS and great battery life. Go figure...

I too have been having bad GPS issues.
First I was on CM10 alpha 5.1 and I couldn't even maintain GPS signal in the I95 from NYC to Hartford, CT!
I then switched to Codename Android (latest one and what I'm on now) which was a lot better and held signal during a 2nd trip up to Hartford. But yesterday I lost signal going up to Bear Mountain (where I've never lost GPS before with previous phones and so had to switch to my wife's iphone for directions).
So I'm thinking I'll have to make the switch too.
But I wanted to ask cd7 if you've ever tried other TW roms like Calkulin 3.0 or re-Calked 0.2.1 for GPS strength? or am I stuck with stock roms forever in order to have consistent GPS?

Thank you for the suggestion.
However, I did do the GPS lock from Calkulin's 3.0 (GB) then flash to the various roms.
I learned that the hard way after not being able to get a signal at all after flashing cm10 the first time.
My problem is that the signal keeps dropping when I travel longer distances (signal is fine when I'm driving around NYC). CM10 alpha 5 was was pretty spotty and would take longer to get a GPS signal. CNA (codename) was a lot better, quick lock and stay locked from NYC to hartford, but still would lose signal in some more rural areas (whereas other phones ie. my wife's iphone or my older LG android phone never had issues).
That's why, like cd7, I'm thinking of having to just go back to a TW rom, but hoping that I don't have to stick with stock forever and can at least use some of Calkulin's stuff.
