New Software Update in UK on 31st October Limiting Charge to 60% - Note 7 Questions & Answers

Samsung UK have advised that they will be pushing out an update on 31st October limiting charge to 60%. Lets see if Package Disabler Pro works !
http://www.samsung.com/uk/note7exchange/

They will have to make the phone increasingly annoying in order for people to discontinue using it.

60% doesn't guarantee the phone won't blow.

This isn't about that. It's really about getting folks to return these phones.

Anyone that continues to keep a Note 7 and continues to use it actively has issues, and I don't mean the phone's potential to destroy itself and cause injury to persons or property.

I'm still using mine. and aslong as you don't go on wi-fi they cant automatically push an update as it requires you to use mobile data? if that causes a billing charge, samsung can get into trouble

Chippy_boy said:
This latest 60% news is just the latest in a series of ham fisted balls ups. Why is this being done in the UK, and not in other markets? If they actually wanted to put together a program to try to get people to NEVER buy from Samsung ever again, I don't think they could have done better than this.

Couldn't agree more with your post. The killer for me was at the start of the first recall when I got a call from Samsung telling me to return my phone to the service provider. The caller was insistent that's what I had to do even though I explained concisely that it was bought from Samsung! It went rapidly downhill from there on. Communication atrocious.
With regard to the 60%, if it's so crucial to prevent the bombs going off why wait a week to push it out?
I sympathise with Samsung for the problem but the handling of it would pour shame on a one man outfit.

well some still dont listen , they should limit it to 20 % , cant blame them too , samsung offer us one of the best smart phone , now they wants it back . i am already given up to advice, dont be surprised after the dust settled , there are still some dudes having the phone , if it does smoke up , its at your own risk , and dont go begging for the media to save you

What might those issues be? As a Chartered Engineer I'd be interested to know.
I've been a member of this forum from day one (my profile doesn't show that because I re-registeted a few years ago).
The forum was set up so that like minded 'PDA' owners could learn about and improve their devices. It wasn't and isn't a place where self opinionated members could dictate what others should or could do or indeed to insult or pass judgement on other members.
It would be good if posts could continue to provide information, constructive advice and development for our devices.

I think people can just root the phone, use xposed and then install imei changer pro to change the phone into another phone id. In this way I don't think the network service provider can manage to block your imei. For those people who really take care of their phone well, I think any phone can last till they change to a new phone.

yes , in the beginning i might believe you , now it reach a stage that samsung is the one working with airlines to ban their own note 7 on airplanes , a problem that is intermittent , samsung them self dont even know whats the issue is , even third party has step in to investigate to no avail , whats so difficult about changing to another model and wait for s8 or note 8 ?

I still thinking if I want to return the phone. I bought a spare S7 edge to standby for trips but its no issue for people who don't travel often. I also believe there are still many people keeping the phone at their own risk. If nothing happen, I think note7 can last till note8 is out.
Have any expert handphone repair people actually open note7 and test if any other battery from other phone in the market can fit and run note7 smoothly?

no it doesn't... I think it's a way for customer no to be sold an old phone for a new one, like car km counters...
Reset Time
What I found in O2 Xda IIs is you just adjust the time backward while make a call and end the call time will be reduce howerver there is almost impossible to get it back to 0.

Not possible, unless you re-program the chip.
And why do you need to do that? Pardon my frankness but there is no reason for someone to do that unless one tries to decieve a potential buyer.

True it shouldn't be used to decieve people but IMHO you should be able to decieve companies when you bought it and you don't want it anymore you can just reset it to 0 and say you haven't used it
i think it's possible.. but you'd have to reset a chip.. I think.. But it has to be possible because it can be updated, so it should also be 'downdated'

As a matter of principle, just because you don't 'deal' directly with the majority of employees and stockholders, doesn't justify deceiving anyone tied to a company. They're people too..
Anyway, guns don't kill people. People kill people. So, if you leave it up to people's discretion to mess with the call duration timer, it will be used to deceive all kinds of other people.

The life time is not such a big deal, people don't care how much you talked on it. A cellphone's life is not based on talk time. I would be more concerned about the battery than how much you talked on it.
But to be so eager to reset the life to save 20 E?
If you don't know what mtty is, I don't think you should be messing with it.

its not about a money..well, now im thinking about that many of us know how to reset..if you want MY reason why to reset...in my country to buty an original phone, which is not usedbefore is almost impossible. Because there are dillers who buy old phones reset lifetimer and sell it for big money...now, the poor student when need money or just want to try another phone have to go to this diller, who asks how old is the phone. When i say the iftimer is on 5min,he wont talking about the dealing. If the lifetimer is maybe will pay me 200E, whenever i bought the phone yesterday or no...
if the lifetimer is 4-5min, he wont give me money...but if i do some change, to give him my phone and cash, after he resets the lifetimer, and sells it like a new.
AND HE DO THIS NOT 1 OR 2 TIMES. So why the poor student s*ck
Personnaly, more a phone is "used" better it is, otherwise why use it !
A phone who have "never be used" ... hum ... shady ...

Overheated phone, Samsung standing family up

Just when you think the media couldn't make things any worse for Samsung..
http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/story/...r-galaxy-note-7-phone-overheated?sf38749124=1
I fully understand Samsung has a lot on their mind, but come on..
Not sure what is expected here. Samsung told everyone to return the phone to their carrier if they got it from them and her carrier was Sprint. Return it to Sprint as you were advised. Samsung reps cannot respond to every claim.
Couple of scammers... I watched the video and the lady is calmly holding the thing while it's smoking lol. That thing would be way too got to touch if it was real. Oh and how convenient they had a surveillance camera in the room. How many people do you know have surveillance cameras in their living room?
Isn't the Hawai incident old news?

It was voluntary before. The cpsc just issued a second recall I'm guessing it's mandatory now. No recalled devices are allowed on planes either.. http://m.androidcentral.com/cpsc-is...l&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_campaign=buffer

Like others have stated elsewhere, there is/was no official recall at the time. If someone doesn't follow the news or websites like this, they may not even know the issue was happening as no emails or texts are send out yet. I'm not saying they didn't know, but it is possible it happens to people who are unaware of it. That said, I believe this happened just before Samsung pulled the plug.

I'm a bit unsure about the "mandatory" part.. the thing is, if you paid for it, you own it. But if something happens... there will be no insurance company that will help you out, let alone the trouble you may get into if something happens to the property of another person. Up until an official recall, you could always wiggle yourself out of those, now not so much anymore. I'm expecting official messages, such as texts, emails, phone pop ups etc to go out pretty soon too.
https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2017/S...-Additional-Incidents-with-Replacement-Phones didnt mention anything about mandatory recall

So this doesn't really change anything from before? Other than its illegal to sell it or take it on a plane.
I'd say it makes it official, which pretty much means you're on your own if you keep it. You can't fly with it, likely not get it through security at certain places, and not sell it. And if something happens, better prepare for a huge s**tstorm to happen :/

Federal law bars any person from selling products subject to a publicly-announced voluntary recall by a manufacturer or a mandatory recall ordered by the Commission. copyed from cpsc , well its didnt mention anything about bringing it on a plane , to play safe just get a spare phone

Well.... you don't know much about the law.
The manufacturer, not the seller, is responsible for their dangerous product. Although even the seller can be held liable in a lawsuit.
Under the law, the way Samsung (the manufacturer) handles incidents of their dangerous product will be brought up in court. It will actually result in Samsung having to pay out more than if they handled the situation properly and responsibly.
These people need to sue. Only when you hit them (the manufacturer) in the pocket book does it make a statement and promote change. Each lawsuit against Samsung for their dangerous product is a lesson learned and a motivation to make sure whatever product manufactured going forward is safe.
Lawsuits are very important.

I live in Hawaii and the news just wants a story.
Hawaii has a huge theft problem so just about everyone including my self has a camera in there home.
I will miss my note 7 I returned mine after this story.
She sure Was calm when it blew up lol

Is there a solution again samsung/Carriers Block?

I have been reading that Carriers are bloquing note 7 in New Zeland.
Is there any way around this? I have been reading something about the matter and it seems the carrier blocks when the see in the imei and id that your phone sends in every call.
This being the case, could it be the solution charging imei and id in the phone so every time you make a call the carrier thinks is another phone completely?
Does anyone know anything about this?
My phone is working perfectly and under no circunstances i want to return it
Thanks in advance

Yes, as is piracy and illegal download of contents and most people do it.
In this case i understand this is because illegal use of phones for criminal purposes, which we can agree is not the case here.
I been looking and there seems many programs that do this. Good news for the ones planing on keeping this amazing machine.

Do your research. I have made it crystal clear I dislike the nanny state and that I would fight for your freedom to own this mobile.
I find it odd that just a handful of posters here still shout from the roof tops about their freedoms yet try so hard to stifle freedom of posting on this forum? Double standards to write the least!
I owned two of the Note 7's, best mobile I have ever owned. Was difficult to return them. I miss the mobile very much as there is zero to replace it. I fully understand why owners desire to keep this mobile, one would be crazy not to want to own a Note 7.
Where I part ways with a tiny % of posters if where they start to debate how best to smuggle a note 7 on board an aircraft. That is not funny, not to be laughed at. THAT is when an owner starts to deny the freedoms and safety of others and that is an act of selfishness also breaking the law (the law part doesn't bother me either, its the act of selfishness that's bugs me).
To repeat. One should not be told what to keep, its a persons legally purchased phone. What an owner has to do in their quest for freedom is respect other peoples freedoms. I have zero problem with some one owning a Note 7, why would I?

There are several threads that are against the XDA regulations. That is bad enough but what is worse is that XDA has, to date, enjoyed a very good reputation in the world of forum posting. At present XDA is doing itself zero favours by allowing threads that encourage the exchange of information that is illegal. Not our problem though.

That's what I was thinking, but still.....(And thats all I'm going to say on that...)
On a lighter topic, how will airlines know what phone you bring on? I'm sure dozens have been in the air since the ban. I'm sure right this very minute there are dozens flying the friendly skies. You place it in an xray machine. Unless the agent recognizes the x-ray view of this phone or they have somehow programmed an algorithm to flag potential Note 7's from the x-rays then they will not know. Turn off automatic update! Do not take the update! You can not revert. I tried already. ODIN will fail.

No, they don't care about anything except that you return the device.

ALL Note 7 will be bricked by early 2017. Some earlier.

I agree with this. I know that the holdouts who haven't replaced their note sevens love their phone but it's irresponsible to keep a phone that could potentially cause harm to innocent bystanders as well and it's really their duty to turn in such a defective device like they've been asked many times. There are several promos and even rumors of a free upgrade so there's no excuse for having a note 7 in your possession and holding out and still using it when it's obviously caused injury and forced planes to land etc etc well now you're going to have to or you'll own a brick. Don't get caught with no service I'd trade in soon...it's happening like it or not. Just saying. Don't shoot the messenger.
Here we go again. Who gives you the right to say what someone should or should not do with their phone? My Samsung washer was recalled and I got no notice about it, even though I have an extended protection plan on it. Lowes never called, Samsung never called, nobody. And these machines actually do EXPLODE!
I have got recalls for my BRAND NEW CAR and yet nobody attempted to disable it. How about exploding airbags? I did not see any companies limiting your fuel tank to 60%.
This whole thing has been a complete mess. The fact that most of these incidents were not even 100% verified and the fact that people actually withdrew their reports speaks volumes. Also, Samsung still has not been able to replicate this issue. I have seen stories about S7 Edges melting and iPhones as well. Fact of the matter is, this was the media taking something which was nothing and creating a firestorm. You do not have to look much further than this election and the crazy amount of FAKE NEWS going around to realize it. My suggestion is to stop posting threads about this and let people make their OWN decisions.
Meh. Doubt it.

Did you read the article though? It's NOT just Verizon, ATT, SPRINT AND T-MOBILE are all following suit. Verizon has just announced it officially first. Read the article it's short and clearly lists even when the carriers will join in the fun. Double yet can doubt all they want. I'm simply passing along a VERY credible source and as a warning to any holdouts picketing a N7 still. You're in for a surprise and soon. Fix has been around for years. Don't say you weren't warned. Don't shoot the messenger either. I agree with it but that's besides the point. My opinion ion doesn't matter. This factual story does.

I do not get why people insist on making these threads. It is like they are trying to play some sort of role as overseer of returning note 7's. I am holding onto mine. I will guarantee this phones value will skyrocket due to rarity and there are tech nerds out there who will want one for their collection.

Blocking it may or may not work....Good luck...Especially the minute you soft brick it and are screwed because no one supports it. Don't say you weren't warned.
I didn't make this for that reason at all. I simply made it so people who still have them know it's very possible it could be deactivated by their carrier is all. Nothing more. I agree with it personally but certainly don't wish anyone without a phone they paid for but they are a dangerous fire hazard but definitely didn't start it just to rub it in anyone's face whatsoever. I've been around here for many years and a simple read the story a day or so ago and started Googling it and it seems it's going to happen much sooner than I thought. I hope that if peeps find away around not getting the update and it works that their's doesn't explode, or injure anyone sure of course....but I DO feel for them too if they do get forced to upgrade or shall I say switch to another device. I've had every Note there is and the day I went to get a N7 they were sold out so I had to wait a week and then all this started the same week so I simply didn't upgrade from my S7 Edge or I'd be in the same boat.

I* agree innocent people have got hurt, it's not cool to hold onto something that can injure and burn possibly cause deaths...when there's a nationwide hell, worldwide pretty much recall on something I feel it's the responsible thing to do and follow the methods of switching devices but some don't feel that way so they in turn decide to take the chance but that chance could very possible injure someone else too like say if one exploded and caught something on fire that hurt innocent people which may have happened already but I think it's been more personal injuries as of yet, leg burn from it being in pocket etc.
And I'm, just posting what I read, it's not to rub in anyone's face. Anyone who knows me from XDA knows I'm not that type of person whatsoever. This is simply to let people know that a change is coming that will be forced on them if they have a Note 7 still....they can take that for what they want.

What I would like to know is, if WIFI is disabled, and I do not have a SIM card in it, is Samsung/T-Mobile (or whoever is doing it) still able to brick my phone? The reason I ask is, I already moved on to the S7 Edge, but like to keep the Note 7 for other stuff, that does not require internet access of any sort.
Thanks,
G
If anyone has a note 7 they want to sell PM me. I'll gladly clone my imei over from my S7.
And what is to stop someone from simply root blocking this update exactly?
Can someone please answer my question?!
Thanks.

No, since your phone is disconnected network and internet.

I honestly hope that samsung already sent the update to all of those devices and the update will activate itself on some random date and brick their devices.
Seriously people, samsung gave You all a chance to get a new device + extra money, and You said no?
This is how it looks like:
Samsung: hey! Here, have a brand new s7 edge + free money!
You: Nope. I'll keep my device and eventually one day it will explode and I'll burn to death while sleeping .
I'm a note lover too. And if I had to return my device I wouldn't do it straight away either. But once they completely recall those phones and then start to DISABLE them. Then it's turn to take Your device back to samsung and change to a different device, while You still can(hopefully) do it for free instead of paying for a new one later.
What's even worse? No updates. No Nougat. S8 Edge will come soon. And Note 7 will become a old not so powerful anymore device.
And don't try to sell it to someone.
I saw one guy trying to sell his Note 7 and claiming that this one won't explode. Guess what. After contacting Samsung, the next day his account was gone(probably disabled temporarily). He wanted to sell it for 2x the price.

Not worth it. You'll end up with a disabled device one day anyway. And even if You will somehow disable the updates (the internal ones that come out of nowhere(not ota)) then it's still not worth it. S8 will come out soon and beat Note 7 + Nougat.
And to all people who will keep their devices no matter what.
I guess it's fine. If they didn't explode so far they most likely won't explode anyway. Tbh it is kinda mean to disable recalled devices in a such way. Like just taking away updates and pushing annoying notifications is enough. And Samsung knows that if they didn't explode till now they won't explode.
So F You Samsung. But other than that think about that it still could explode in a elevator and kill You and other people.
And no guys. It's not a WWII historical item to keep it and show it to Your grandsons later. It's just a phone.
*Never mind, not worth the debate*

Possible Note 10+ US snapdragon root???

No working root for note10+ US snapdragon in site you say??? A few months back @elliwigy with extreme syndicate release a working root method for the note 9 snapdragon, they did this by exploiting the combo files to bypass the locked boot-loader issue with newer US Samsung models. I was curious to see if this can also be achieved on the us note 10 plus. I have been working on that very problem but i seem to have hit a wall could use some fresh input. Is anybody else actively working on this if so I would like to team up and solve this problem....
yours in good code,
-C-Dubbenstein-
Would be nice when and if. Good luck. I picked up my vzw note 10plus on day 1 here in US. Never updated anything other than play store apps for in the event a root or maybe even a bootloader unlock would come to. Neither of which I'm holding my breath on. But I'm optimistic. These are strange times we live in so who knows.
Good luck nonetheless,

see

Anyone tried this rooting/ bootloader unlock method successfully on an SM-N976U Note 10+5G from Tmo?

This reply.
This has enough red flags to be more red than "some country flag" itself.
"So basically I gotta send some random guy in Beijing $150.. wait a week, install some 3rd party utils to let him take over my (windows) computer.. and if anything goes wrong I'm out $150 and the only way to get ahold of them is Telegram?"
That's the reply quoted above.
Hmm...
a. send money to unknown person - no control whatsoever on tracing the money
b. wait for some time - no guarantee of getting an answer
c. install some 3rd party PC tools (or similar) which will allow that unknown person to control my computer - WHAT POSSIBLY COULD GO WRONG :silly:
d. if something goes wrong / unsuccessful result (which are quite possible) then ... - ugh, cuz why not, I've paid, right?
e. the only way to get in touch with that person is telegram - btw, on groups channels there's no encryption (afaik, but maybe I'm wrong)
What can I possible do with the 150$? What if I save some 20-30$ every month for 2 years and add the 150?
Some 630$ - 870$ of savings in 2 years, not bad, they may help in buying the next phone.
Oh yeah, and no root. Because 'Murica (and a few others) luv SD chips. And LagSung loves $$$.

That they'll end up closing up shop and screw the rest of us in the future when we need em. Where all know about us locked bootloader since the s5 s6. By now most people should know this and buy unlockable bootloader devices. I'm in the US. Have had severL unlocked snap. And currently running a note 10 exy

so the reply you quoted is someone who is paranoid or mad that its not "free".. most good things in life are not free..
a. I am known very much so in the community and have been around a decade or so.. have been only dev really providing root (for free) on xda since the s8 and posted many other dev projects overthe years before that
b. I respond as soon as physically possible so u will get a reply. also to add im not shady at all, in fact theres a plethora of notes which users must read everything before theyre even able to send anything.
c. usb redirector is a very common tool that most legit services use for various things such as sim unlocks, frp bypasses or w.e other services are out there in the world. it also DOES NOT allow full control of ur computer lmao.. it only allows them to see the device plugged into usb which is what allows remote services to be dont.. u basically plug device in and with usb redirector itll appear as if its plugged in to the remote computer so they can unlock the device.
d. if something goes wrong bcuz the user didnt read all the notes, provided wrong did or something after repeated warnings, notes, having them triple check then thats their own fault. If it is an issue with the service then a refund is given. This is common practice. If you go to an antique store and break something chances are u will have to pay for it, same concept.
e. theres multiple ways. chat, xda, email, pymbt is done in venmo usually so u also have access to personal facebook account if need be. Encryption for chat isnt really necessary.. im sure real hackers have more important things to do then try and somehow steal a random chat for a did they cant do anything with anyways lol
its also not 150.. only flip 2 is 150 which very few ppl have anyways.. but i do agree, you can do a lot with 150 and of course saving money over two years is a good idea lol
and absolutely, we luv sd chips bcuz its consistently superior than exynos as well as exynos doesnt have good functionallity on usa networks.. why buy a exynos if ur in usa and not have any carrier features or 5g etc?
thats just my 2 cents lol

I must apologize for the fact that I didn't know that you are the person dealing with this root possibility. I know the type of your work, but didn't think it can be also a different one too.
I also have great respect for you, so again, I'm sorry.
I understood that it was a completely other unknown person related to this situation. My ignorant answer(s) were based on that.
To be more clear, I do not live in US and can't buy an US SD with similar carrier conditions. I have access to Exynos as purchase and warranty. I'm satisfied with it.
It is totally my fault being to superficial in getting the correct (somehow an interesting/challenging one) context of this talk.
Therefore I apologize again.

So you trust the method to get the note 10+ snapdragon rooted? Do you or does anyone know anyone who has done it thats given feedback besides Mad Scientist saying he knows them? What would you say is the best option of a note 10+/model number that can be rooted?
A non related question, is there a recommended carrier unlock company you'd recommend, i use a tmobile note 10+. Is unlockriver legit?

So you trust the method to get the note 10+ snapdragon rooted? Do you or does anyone know anyone who has done it thats given feedback besides Mad Scientist saying he knows them? What would you say is the best option of a note 10+/model number that can be rooted?
A non related question, is there a recommended carrier unlock company you'd recommend, i use a tmobile note 10+. Is unlockriver legit?

Right now it's the only way to get the eng tokens based of the did of your device. I just see so many people talking crap. That they'll end up closing up shop and screw the rest of us in the future when we need em. Where all know about us locked bootloader since the s5 s6. thats insane! for that much i could buy an octoplus with a years license and then charge everyone visiting these threads $20 to bootloader and/or sim unlock their devices. whats the incentive to use that kind of service. ive never even heard of a remote frp fix for more than $30.
