Hello everyone,
Anyone here who has an unlocked bootloader managed to send the phone to warranty without any problems? I really want to install cm13 but I'm worried if something happens in the future I won't be able to fix my phone.
Thanks in advance
Hello, too.
If you want to unlock, use the unofficial way. As the official one voids warranty. However, if you want to claim your warranty, return everything to stock.
I managed to claim my warranty (unlocked using unofficial way) due to screen glitches before but the Asus service center said that my warranty was void due to contact with liquids.

Hi guys, i have a question, i want to return my phone for warranty and i've read this thread that if your bootloader is showing 'relocked' you cannot return the device for warranty.
I am here to ask if there is a way to make the bootloader show 'locked' bootloader instead of 'relocked'?
it would be GREATLY appreciated if you could help me. thanks!
for those who want to relock their bootloader can follow the instructions here
There is no way to do that ATM.
If the problem is the hardware issue, HTC should honor the warranty.

actually i'm looking to sell the phone, the phone have no issues whatsoever, but if the person i sell to wants to claim warranty, it may be an issue.
Not possible. When you got your unlock bin from HTC, it logged the device info. There gonna know right away it was tampered with.

so that means there is no option to claim warranty unless i pay for the 'fines' or charges that incur to repair my device?

Correct. From what I've read, unlocking voids the warranty instantly (even tho htcdev says it "could" void your warranty) So any repairs are gonna cost you.

OK.. while trying to re-flash my phone after messing up, I tried to re-lock (fastboot oem lock) and it put up 3 messages, 1 succeed, 2 failed, on reboot of phone it read locked.
Yes!! Locked not re-locked ! I forgot I had not flashed stock recovery ! So triued to unlock, it worked but I could not flash stock recovery, failed, but I could re-lock with same LOCKED message, if I then went from HBoot to Fastboot I got a new menu SECURITY .. bellow locked a message SECURITY WARNING, if I select SECURITY menu then I get a new screen , KEYCARD failed, and reboots.
Anyway the LOCKED was enough to get the phone swapped as its two weeks old, any way after charging and attempting RUU again it locked on black HTC screen most times it booted.
Still maybe this menu holds a key to S-OFF, and maybe the relock failing can be replicated, it seems to have sent only 1 of 3 parts if the file across, so if you phone is bricked maybe you can give it a shot for htc service cover by part re-locking in some way.

and was hoping we could make some headway on it.
I noticed you are on Vodafone Australia.
I spoke to multiple stores and service reps and each of them said the same thing, that merely unlocking the bootloader will not void your warranty with them assuming a hardware fault. They even allowing discussion of bootloader unlocking in their community forum.
They did say however that flashing custom roms and rooting will void your warranty as per usual and any damage caused as a result of overclocking or messing with voltages etc is not covered.
I don't know if that is any help, but they seem pretty good about it so long as you didnt cause any actual damage yourself

Unfortunately I bought it outright from All phones. Don't think they'll accept it. but never mind anymore, I sold my HTC one x. I put up a *phone has boot loader unlocked* note on the ad

Hi i will be new to HOX , im curious in witch case i loose warranty.
Rooting void warranty?
Unlocking bootloader?
Sent from my LT26i
rooting will not void warrenty because if you remove it, they cannot tell it has been done.
unlocking bootloader (CAN) void certain parts of your warrenty because they can tell that it has been done
So ulocking BL and instaling kernels, roms without overclock and other cpu stuff should not void warranty if reverted back and relocked?

Yes, it will. You lose your warranty when you unlock the bootloader. When you revert back it will say Relocked instead of locked in Hboot.

In most cases you will lose warranty for unlocking the boot loader. But a number of people have managed to claim warranty on unlocked phones. It all depends on your local service center.
Thank you guys, looking forward to buy HOX and learn hboot, and all other HTC specific stuff.
Hope to talk with you i near future.

Hi I'm looking for some ideas on this issue.
So the events are something like this:
Sony: Unlocking the bootloader MAY void warranty
Sony: Try the ICS Beta - unlock your warranty! Come to Disneyland! :victory:
Sony: Clarification, may issues with phones are a result of modding so we won't honour the warranty
So what is it then? I own a Sony 2010, 2011 and now a 2012 device. But given the change of news, I'm concerned about unlocking the bootloader. I don't want to ruin the 2 year warranty of a new phone.
I asked Sony about this today and they said that a lot of issues they see with their phones are as a result of modding, so if the BL is unlocked, you lose your warranty and he even said he will not help me further with the issue (despite that they have an entire website dedicated to it...).
Any comments? Any personal stories; have you been accepted/refused warranty?
How about root ?
Sent from my LT15i using xda premium
I'm wondering how many of you here didn't root their phone and having bootloader locked ...
I got mine LT18i rooted and unlocked BL at the first day
Root is right and also whether unlocking bootloader is dangerous and may void your warranty instead.

I hate having to ask about the warranty but it seems the issue is still unclear. People have reported returning phones to Sony with some being accepted after unlocking BL and some rejected.
I thought there must be some knowledgeable people in the Arc area, you guys were got an ICS beta ROM yeah? That's a tempting invitation from Sony to unlock the BL.
Hi Everyone,
I have read alot of the forums on here but couldnt find my answer in them.
Long story short i had wireless card issue and sent the phone into htc to get it fixed. Now the phone was rooted and all that but i had relocked the bootloader and put the stock rom back on the phone. HTC are refusing to fix the wireless card and are asking for £202+ to fix the phone. they say that they now have to replace the motherboard because it is out of warranty ( due to "illegal" software) in order to get the wireless card fixed in the phone.
I am just wondering if this is right and if they can do that .
thanks for any help
Sorry, but that's how it is. You agreed to voiding warranty when you unlocked bootloader at htcdev.
You can argue with them, but they are not obliged to provide a warranty.
On the other hand, your retailer is.
Hi, I know there are a lot of discussions about this, but I read too much opinions. I want to understand the situation. Is a phone with unlocked bootloader out of warranty after bootloop? (Edit: yes, I found it on LG official site, sorry for the stupid question. Even if I will ask to LG Italia, my G2 passed warranty with root but the bootloader was not unlocked).
So the real question is: if I only root is there the possibility to get bootloop? Is the phone in warranty only with root?
I found this article on web: http://www.androidauthority.com/lg-admits-g4-bootloop-problem-hardware-fault-669603/
Is this the answers to our problems?
Thank you
Edit: I asked LG Italia. They said that smartphones bought before 1st April 2016 with root and/or unlocked bootloaders will be repaired in warranty if the problem is hardware and not software. If they can prove that the unlocked bootloader is the fault of the bootloop they will not repair the smartphone for free (I think this is crazy if LG is already accepted that bootloop is a hardware problem).
Instead smartphones bought later then 1st April 2016 with root and/or unlocked bootloader will be repaired out of warranty even if there is a hardware problem.
The bootloop problem is not caused by unlocking the bootloader, and it is not caused by rooting. Even if you don't root and you don't unlock the bootloader, you can still eventually end up with the bootloop issue. However, if the phone is bootloader unlocked, I've heard some people say that LG refused to repair the phone under warranty. Personally, I don't think this is fair of LG. They should repair the phone under warranty even if it is unlocked. Because the bootloop issue is a hardware problem with the phone, it shouldn't matter if the phone is unlocked/rooted. There is a design or engineering issue with the phone's motherboard so it should be repaired under warranty in all cases.
