I have a "fixed" Note 7 and I understand I have to turn it in but I want to wait as long as I can. I know I seen on here a way to block OTA updates. Something about freezing system apps? I wan't to block any battery crippling updates Samsung puts out. I just want to wait to see if I can make it till S8 comes out.
It isn't fixed. Just send it back. Seriously.
Disabling these bottom four will end future updates.

You can do all seven but the bottom for is the main one you want to disable.
I am on Verizon and do not have some of the ones that you are showing that are checked in Package Disabler Pro. Anyone on Verizon have these to disable future updates?

I had all of those disabled at AT&T and many more (lessons learned from from the note 5) . Guess what, they pushed the update anyway in the middle of the night with no prompt that will let me cancel.
also install a firewall just in case.
its far fetched to think samy could have their system apps pass on/tunnel your personal data via other innocent apps (im definitely sure google is doing it to ensure they gather as much data from us as possible). if I'm wrong, at least a firewall saves you on wireless 4g data charges
This is the only thing we can do if we want to keep the phone, if it goes through then it will force the keepers to switch if it doesn't we'll see how long we can last without updated/support.

Yes I did. Had the note 5 remember?
It was crazy scary, especially when the phone turned blue and AT&T logo popped out without a warning.
It was doing something for nearly 10-20 minutes with a bar on the bottom of the screen (so I knew it was doing something).
it was in recovery mode and did not have the running android logo (like updates usually do).
I was worried to turn it off cause I did not want my phone to be bricked. When it turned back on I got the message that I must return the phone (and it kept of popping every time I charged it).
So, I am 100% positive that AT&T, and Samsung can do what they want.
Also, yesterday before I returned the phone my line got suspended. But my line is a corporate line so the company just decided to force me to return it.
damn, that's dodgy.
Ridiculous people are doing this, why not turn the damn thing in seriously? Its not going to be supported by samsung or 3rd party developers.
Samsung will almost certainly release something just as good hardware wise if not better in the future.
I just can't figure out why some of you are so insistent on keeping an unsupported and dangerous phone.

Here, ill give you my reason. I go upgrade to the s7 edge tonight. Now, when the new note or whatever it is with the stylus comes out, I cant upgrade yet. Whereas if I still had/have this, then I could with the note even year deal or whatever its called with Verizon. I guarantee im not the only one in this boat.

Yet another policeman. How the **** do you know if there's anything wrong with his or not. This is getting REALLY tedious.
FWIW, having wiped my Note 7 and boxed it up, I've changed my mind. I am keeping it for a month or two to see what pans out, news of S8 availability, take a look at the Pixel etc.
There's no rush to get them swapped and I not could give a pico-sh1t about the "explosion" risk. Seriously when ZERO have had any issues in the UK. None, nil, nada. Why would anyone be so concerned. Sure there may be a small risk but let's keep this in perspective, please.

No not at all, just not a complete moron who thinks he knows better than the multi billion dollar company (with people way way smarter than any of us) who would have done anything in their power to make sure that this didn't happen. You think they would have stopped production for something that's easily fixed? Come on, use your brain!
How do I know if there's anything wrong with his or not? I don't - nobody does - that's the problem... duh? No one can surely say that it will or won't blow up at any time, and you've got hundreds of these idiots going 'hmm, i know better than samsung, mines cool for now, therefore its always gonna be fine'
And thereby not only putting their own selfish ass at risk, but other people who they might be around at that time, god forbid it did explode/set on fire.
It's ridiculous. This whole thing should never have happened, but people insisting on keeping something that is known to randomly (until they can reproduce it, unless they already have and aren't disclosing it) set on fire, and that is just complete stupidity, and nothing else.

Yawn. It was a no brainer for Samsung to discontinue it. They could be 100% confident they would have many more fires and other issues.
Any single user can be 99.99% confident they will not.
If you don't get that, I suggest you have a quick read up on probabilities 101.
@Chippy_boy dont waste your energy man, there will always be people who are just upset in general... they start the fire the moment they hear someone scream witch just continue to help like minded others and ignore their verbal traps, it'll eat them up inside every time they come back here... otherwise they wouldn't come back to troll about a phone they don't have

I just called AT&T and gave them hell about the lack of progress on the Marshmallow update. Asked how much it would cost to close my account. Miraculously; I was forwarded to a tech support person with an IQ just North of a bedroom slipper. She forced the update to my phone. I'm past the download and my apps are optimizing. Incredible! Before I post, I'm going to wait to be sure, but it looks like I'm getting the Big M! 8 more apps to go! 1 more. Holding breath. BS! Don't know what it actually did, but still on 5.11. Time for the big guns. Stay tuned.
Just north of a bedroom slipper. Thats hilarious.
??????
Big News! AT&T Are Liars!
I called back and spoke to another Golgi apparatus who denied that they ever said that. My, how his toned changed when I started playing back the conversation from Total Recall. He proceeded to tell me that I could pay an ETF of $350.00. I told him that based on the recorded lies that they told me; I DARED them to try to collect. Never mind - just more AT&T BS. {Sigh!}
Sorry. "Just North of a bedroom slipper" and "Golgi apparatus" were complements for these oxygen thieves. Maggots is placing them in high regard. AT&T customer since 1985, and this is how I'm treated? I'm dropping them like a used rubber. Don't have any better "smoking gun" solutions since I travel internationally a good bit; but, I'll cut off my nose to spite AT&T at this point. (Extremely foul language omitted)
Sometimes I think to my self, how fun would of been if this device would of been root able? Big-time developers would be on this specific forum. Idk but lately I've been complementing on wether to give att another chance or split to tmobile
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using XDA-Developers mobile app
Sorry that happened, it's the worst when you get your hopes up only to have them dashed.
Highly unlikely that att would push out an update to a single user, some of us have been trying to get beta releases for years. Unfortunately, we just have to wait.
So help me; she SWORE that they were already rolling it out (another lie), but I wasn't in the queue yet, and I'd be receiving it soon. She was such a polished liar that it takes my breath away. Then, she gave me the schmoozing touch by saying "Well, you're such a valued customer that I'm going to go ahead and push it to your phone." Eloquent liar. She said "Look at the top of your screen and tell me what you see?" I saw the diagonal arrows that only mean one thing. I was ecstatic! I told her: " I can't believe you were able to do it that fast!" She poured it on even thicker by saying "Now, wait with me for a little bit to make sure it goes through." Sucker!!! I waited until it had gotten to the 100% point and was prompted by the phone to end my call to finish the update. I thanked her profusely, and hung up.
I'm sure they were slapping their knees after I got off the phone with them. The phone went through the expected gyrations with the progress bar, optimizing apps, rebooting, etc. When it finished recycling; there was the all too familiar screen again. My heart was beating like a rabbits. I went to the phone info, and sure enough... Still Lollipop! SUCKER! I felt like Curly from The Three Stooges after Moe just double poked him in the eyes.
Now; I'm pissed. But, being the weekend, I realize that the only person to answer their phone is Hajji over in India, so that's a waste of time. So; my choices are: Stay with AT&T and continue to have nearly seamless international roaming, or cut my throat and go with Verizon - just to match my domestic coverage - (Same high price, same obstinance, but little to no international coverage, same hardware restrictions), or go with a lone wolf like T-Mobile - or worse - Sprint.
Deflated.
stay with At&t but never buy phones from them. nexus is the way to go my friend.
OP, I honestly cannot tell if you are for real.
Oh; trust me; I'm real. And, everything - virtually everything happened exactly the way I said it. It would be hard to make that one up.
As for the Nexus; I've considered that. Perhaps my timing's been bad, but I'm a little underwhelmed by the Nexus phones that I've seen. Especially without Mini-SD cards. It seems like there's always some stranglehold. I've been a Sammy fan for about 4 years now. The previous one was the Note 3 that I purchased outright from AT&T. Root eventually made it's way to it, but I jumped when the Note 5 came out without the SD card slot, and no removable battery. I panicked and snatched up the Note 4. Big mistake.
I wish there was a way to purchase an unlocked, unbranded Samsung Note that would work seamlessly on AT&T, allow updates without the bloat, and let me do what I wanted to do with what I bought. It defies logic.

Likely has no warranty I the states, and difficult to get, many are sold as 910f but are 910a with a system mod applied via odin to make it look like an 910f...
OK, I'll bite. You really didn't know that the ATT associates don't know when any update will occur? You really wasted all this time and energy and anger over this? That is why I smell a troll; everyone knows this, and it has been reiterated a thousand times. The fact is they simply do not know.
Think what you want. I'm not trying to impress you or anyone else. I'm venting my frustration and experience.
Now; if she'd told me that the update would hit at a certain time; I'd have taken it with a grain of salt. But, the way she schmoozed me; I bought hook, line, and sinker. Not to mention all of the speculation on this board that the update was immanent; I thought I'd hit the goldmine. That's what pisses me off. I'll be more than happy to post the recording (~10MB) of the 47 minute conversation - if you have the time to waste listening to it.
And, no; I'm not going to roll the dice on an international - or any other illegitimate phone - in the hopes that I can get what I paid for. That's just another frustration. It would be like buying a fancy Dell computer with a 3TB HD, but they installed 1.5TB of bloatware on the drive and if you took it off; your computer would crash.
OK, I'm done.
I have been an AT&T customer since 96. My first smartphone was the Sony x10a, loved it. Then I saw an ad in a magazine for the ion lt28at. I knew 6 months before the 6 AT&T employees(1 per month) that AT&T was getting it. I "chat" with AT&T about every 2 weeks to see if there's any info when updates are supposed to be released. Occasionally one will act like they have the inside scoop, usually, like with the ion, they're as clueless as we are. I fallen victim to false hope, I'm sure many of us have. Yes, AT&T sucks when it comes to updates and bloat, but I will tell you this, every single time I've had an issue they've done everything they can to make me happy. To me that goes a long way towards keeping my brand loyalty. AT&T is a pretty solid company and would have to do something much worse than delaying updates to lose my business.

yes they can push updates to individual devices, because i called as asked to have that done with the latest security patch, and the person asked me for my IMEI and told me it would take a couple of hours, sure enough within that time I had the notification for the security update.

I agree. I have a contract that was supposed to allow me to upgrade phones every two years. I went in and was told that they don't do upgrades anymore even if it is in your contract. Which means I have to pay that price on my bill and not get the benefit of it. They very eagerly offered to take that off my bill but it would kill my unlimited data. Why in the hell would I buy a phone from them if I can get one that is not locked down for the same price?

It's a dead topic in my opinion. We all know that AT&T's customer service is horrible and will tell you anything. What I found so insulting was the level of deceit that they went to convince me that I was going to get the update. Shouldn't be surprised. That's why I record theirs and a few other companies phone calls to confront them when they don't live up to what was promised. I still find it incredible!
So; I'm stuck with AT&T, or another carrier that's as bad or worse. It's a shame. I used to be able to count on AT&T as fulfilling their promises. My experience over the past couple of years is that you roll the dice, and HOPE you get what was promised. I suppose that's the only option. Their management could care less.
I'm done with this topic. Feel free to rant - which was my purpose - it seems to have no effect on them. They know your options are limited.

This is actually great news. It kills the second-hand market for unscrupulous sellers to sell potentially dangerous devices that could result in injuries or property damage. It's both morally-responsible and a protective measure by Samsung to reduce liability exposure. Now people are forced to return their old phones unless they want a $900 wifi device.

After reading this article it is Samsung, not Verizon, doing this deactivation. Is that even possible? Is it normal for device manufacturers to be able to reach out and brick all of their devices? Because just shutting down the radio portion of the phone ain't gonna stop people from using it on WiFi and charging them. They must brick them. Never heard of such a thing before...:good:
If I choose to not get a recall in my car, can Ford shut me down legally? Is that good? Being careful what we wish for to be legal and good has a funny way of becoming the norm across every aspect of our lives....
I think this is a feign.....

In the case of stolen phones, it's usually it's the carriers who report lists of stolen IMEIs to GSMA so that they can deny service for a device with a bad IMEI. I don't think it will necessarily brick your device, just turn it into a wifi-only device if it's not locked some other way.
In the Note 7 case, given that potentially lives and property damage are at risk, it's certainly possible that Samsung can provide a list of all IMEIs to GSMA produced before their fixed batches and have them deactivate them en masse. Especially if this is done in conjunction with the CSPC.
Depending on which side of the fence you sit on with respect to personal accountability it could be a good or bad thing. Personally, I think this is a good thing and morally-responsible as I mentioned above. There is really no point in continuing to use a potential time bomb when you can easily return the phone (and if you're a poor soul who brought it second-hand or via eBay, Swappa, etc., its a life-lesson). In litigation-crazy American society where people are not accountable for their personal well-being and can sue at will, Samsung really has no choice but to resort to the nuclear option to protect themselves against liability, or in this case "acts of darwinism." In your example, Ford probably can't legally shut you down but I'm sure they would have clauses in their recall notices indemnifying them in case some owners refuse to fix their cars (withing a certain time frame) and kill themselves and others as well, esp. if the recalls are in conjunction with the Feds.

Thank you. If you take out probably, I totally agree. This is why the unsubstantiated link above, which references nothing but their own speculation, appears to be a feign. Right or wrong, good or bad, certainly smells like a feign dipped in rumor.
Sure, get the phone replaced. But a global brick wall? I don't buy it... Anything less than a total brick job will not suffice.
This is a rumor, take with a big grain of salt. Just another he said, she said hearsay from misinformed people.

Pretty sad if you think politics is involved in this. If you were still using a potentially defective phone and it burned down your house and you were the only one in it, then it's purely your fault and only affects you. In which case I couldn't give a crap as that's your typical "act of darwinism." But if my 3-year old and wife were next door and the fire crossed into my house and they got hurt then yes I would give a crap and it is someone else's problem. I would be asking myself WTF was that idiot still using the phone after a recall has been issued and why was he even allowed to keep it.
You need to re-prioritize your life if keeping and using a damn phone that's been recalled is really that important to you (instead of just getting a refund to switch to another phone or buy a replacement) or if you seriously think politics plays a role in this.

So we have pictures of a box with a safe "black square" indicator on it and an overheated Note7 on the floor in the aisle of a Southwest flight that was pushing back from gate at Baltimore. Before the OMG! crowd hits, with the U.S. CPC involved, we'll get some tangible information soon. If in fact the phone on the floor is a "safe" Note7 and it overheated Samsung's screwed. If there's more to the story (EG: the phone in fact wasn't a replacement) we'll find that out soon. Until then the glass half full people can assume there's more at play than the story indicated and the glass half empty people can work themselves up in to a frenzy with scant information to go by.

I just had an argument on Google + with someone going crazy. I was trying to say "wait for all the facts". But yeah, if it's true I'd say the Note 7 is finished.
The owner of the device said it was a replacement that he got on sept 21 and that it had the green battery icon meaning its a safe device

If its true that this was a new device, it might be the end of the note 7, im still using my original note 7 as my local store hasnt recieved and new devices

Yep. That's what he said. If it's true it'll be corroborated soon. If it's false we'll know that even sooner. The difference between true and false means $1B or more to Samsung so I'm sure they are all over this in droves.
I just added a topic yesterday asking if it's safe to get it ! Today i read this article !
I guess that i shall stick to the S7 Edge i have, and pass the Note this year, very risky to get the device

Problem is, if this is a one off natural battery fire fluke (like you see with a lot of phones) it won't matter. The Note 7 will still be finished by the fall out as the media will go crazy (they already are).
Great on the day tmobile resumes sales.

I wonder if this could kill off the Note 7 completely? This feels almost unreal - like a set-up by a competitor. I have never felt like all the accurate info on this has been given to us since everything unfolded with battery-gate.
Was about to go drop 850$ on a new one at t mobile today. Damnit this is he best android phone out now. But if it's not safe I might wait the the LG v20

As a glass half full person I accepted that .01% of the pre-replacement Note7's had the potential to overheat. I was perfectly willing to keep my original phone for months waiting until I nicked or scratched it to turn it in for replacement. The only reason I exchanged it early is the stupid nag screen Samsung pushed out via a non-preventable update. Of the initial 90ish reported incidents 30ish of those later turned out to be proven false or the claimants failed to participate in any type of investigation which can be taken as false claims also. How big a risk this is/was is up to personal interpretation. Here's a pic of the Note7 on the floor of the Southwest plane after it overheated.

It looks like all the other pics of overheated Note7's I've seen. In all of those pics none of the phones got hot enough to melt the plastic parts like the home button which is an inch away from the battery. Plastic melts at 145 degrees which is less than the 160 degrees poultry needs to be cooked to in order to be eaten safely. If this situation happened to a second tier brand like Oppo, OnePlus, or leEco it wouldn't have even made front page news. Because Samsung's a gigantic market-leading powerhouse it not only made the front page but stayed their forever because of the click-bait value.
I'd be surprised if we didn't officially hear more about this particular incident by mid-day tomorrow.

Funny, I thought I was the only person thinking conspiracy!
I find it odd that a lot of these users with issues claimed they've switched to iphone right after the incident. I mean, why would one switches an entire ecosystem just because an Android phone (Note 7 in this case) catches fire? Wouldn't most of them switch to ANOTHER Android device?

I see no reason for him to lie but the truth will come out, hopefully it was an old device and not a new "safe" one, this is my first note device and i love it. Would hate to have to switch to something else

I'm going on 2, 25 hour flights in a month. I'm not entirely sure I'd feel confident taking a replaced Note 7 with me. The picture certainly looks like a battery failure, it's in the same location as all the others. If and it's a big "If" this is real and it's the same problem, its a gigantic issue for Samsung. Do they pull the whole Note 7 lineup and call it a day for this year? Of course, this guy could be trying something on.
Samsung should have just gone with the replaceable battery in the first place. Not doing so has cost them Billions. Many Billions.
Who carries their box around?

How do this get a picture of the box? if he got the new phone one 9/21... why the heck did he carry his card box with the imei and black square...

Yep. Note 7 is gg wp.
Conspiracy or not, it's working.
But this said, I also find this claim a little "too corny".
The guy is on a plane, (last place you'd want a smartphone to explode). He turned off the Phone. It's an exchanged phone. And STILL it exploded.
This is like Apple's dream. If they'd "staged" it, they couldn't do any better.
There's a serious war here gentlemen.
Also it's insteresting that these phones only explode in the US or China. (All other countries were proven as hoax).

Maybe because he was travelling by plane and to prove he had a new replacement N7 after the recall. But yeah - this all sounds a little fishy and these articles all seem to jump right into iPhone, iPhone, iPhone go get one now (!) type of thing. Feels forced.

Yes, that is what he said, and it may be true but does seem tad odd that since this happened the morning, he had time to:
- deal with the airport/airline staff after the incident (answer questions, etc.)
- go buy a new iphone (gratuitously added in the article)
- get the original Note 7 box
- get interviewed by the Verge
...All in time for the 1:15 story.
It also seems the timing of the incident was too perfect. It happened in that narrow window while the plane was in the gate. If it happened before, it would be a lot less dramatic, if it happened after take-off, it would have been too dramatic.
All possible, but kinda makes you say hmmmmm...
I know there's been a ton of posts about returning or keeping or whatever you gonna do with your note seven but just wanted to try to get all the information together in one thread.
What we know :
There is a voluntary recall
The major carriers want you return your device immediately
The US CPSC says "to power down immediately"
Samsung is discontinuing support and updates for it
The phone is banned from all us flights
Small possibility or device could overheat and catch fire
Alternative devices at this point are not comparable
At this point you can do two things, keep it or exchange it. Viable alternatives being HTC 10, LG V20, and Google Pixel / Pixel XL. I don't really want any of those phones so ....
As far is keeping it goes...
I doubt the TSA will be able identify on the spot a note 7 and tell you you can't board whatever flight.
I've heard stories about carriers blacklisting IMEI numbers, but only after a return was initiated. There's another post on here showing a verizon rep acknowledging that they cannot force you to return your device. I also doubt that carriers will refuse to provide service to "known" note 7 devices. Show from here I think the only drawback to keeping your device is a small chance that you have a defective unit and the lack of updates and support .
In cedar in the discontinued updates and support, what does that really mean? Besides a new or latest version of android, which can be easily ported over or manually flashed, we'll miss out on continued firmware support and development.
However if the phone works as is, and there doesn't seem to be any major flaws in the hardware (which there doesn't to me), do we really even need those?
TL ; DR - By keeping the note 7 we're only really missing out on firmware updates , and with that in mind , it doesn't seem that crazy to me to keep it .
EDIT: "mandatory" to voluntary
Since Personal Safety and the Safety of those around one, it should be advised by all to power the device down and return it for proper disposal by the manufacturer. One can only imagine that what ever Samsung comes out with when they do will be well worth it I'm sure, They have a lot of repair to do. Just my .02 cents.

They can keep the 3rd party support and updates. I never bought those anyways.
At worst, they will bump you off the network(s) which leaves a pretty desirable wifi only business companion except if you fly or work in a fireworks factory. Bumping from networks, forcing wifi only operation, does nothing to eliminate the risk of fire so I'm not sure about this one. They would need a total brick job.
I just received an S Notes update today. So much for no more updates. I know that it is not a 3rd party of security update but just sayin'.
Whether or not you will be expected to pay to keep it remains to be seen and time will tell. IF they are pretending the Note 7 doesn't exist then that could get interesting as well. This isn't Kickstarter here....
If I went iPhone 7 route I could retain my annual upgrade. Sammy can keep their $75 loyalty bonus for that matter.
Truth be told, if I am forced to, I will get a Note 5 off Swappa out side the Verizon network.
The way I see it is there is a big difference between a voluntary recall and a mandatory recall. Some are acting like this is a mandatory recall when in fact it is voluntary meaning they are not going to disable your phone you can continue as normal and then when the time comes because the phone is under recall you can simply return it and upgrade to a new device whenever you find one that suits your needs. The only caveat is there will be no software updates to the operating system for security patches but that's not the worst thing in the world. They are only disabling phones that have been scheduled to be returned other than that I don't think they can legally disabled all the phones unless it becomes a mandatory recall.

Here's the facts:
- Only 90 or so phones out of probably millions at this point have had this issue.
- The defect showed itself within the first several days of use.
- Samsung Techs were unable to cause a meltdown in their Labs. This proves that this will only happen if you have one of the few defective devices and they didn't find one.
Given the facts, here's my thoughts on the "personal safety and safety of those around you" statement. If you have used you're phone for over a month with no issues then it isn't a defective device. My phone hasn't even gotten hot at any time and has operated perfectly even after rooting.
Another possibility here is that there is a rare combination of APP(s) + use that is causing a unique condition for this to happen. Now here goes the conspiracy theory. It may even be that an unnamed competitor, after discovering this vulnerability, staged these meltdowns for bad PR. The incident on the plane was an absolute worst case for Samsung's image and exactly what someone wishing to damage it would have staged.
For the safety of those around me I'll be attaching this warning label

I see from you sig that you have xposed installed, lag seems to be a common problem with some of the exposed modules. I uninstalled immediately due to lack of features and the lag issue.
I sold my perfect condition Note 3 modified to Developer Edition on eBay but I do have another Note 3 with a minor screen crack which I plan to activate for any flights.....until next fall when the Note 8 arrives. (or whatever they nename it to for marketing purposes)
I would expect Samsung to continue their investigation and ultimately track down the defect. If it's possible to patch with software they may offer this to the many thousands that I'm sure will be keeping their phones. I actually talked to the Costco rep who said he still wanted a Note 7. The recall over a handful of defective phones isn't putting off a huge number of owners.

I don't think its xposed, when im screen mirroring, using gps, streaming music, and charging (aka in my car) it gets so hot the whole system UI crashes.
Neither of my N7's get hot or lag at all. Never have. This is the first phone in many years I have not rooted. I do have package disabler pro to disable the VZ bloat and the udate SDM apk's. No freezing, never overheats or gets hot, great battery life. Almost a perfect phone. I do use Nova Launcher, but that shouldn't matter for anything with lag/no lag. The N7 is pretty much everything I ever wanted in a phone. Not a fan of the curved display since you can't get a tempered screen protector that works for it, and the mono speaker is not very good, but those are about my only complaints (besides a non-removable battery that has overheated in 100 some of the 3 or 4 million N7's out there).
@jellyhead nice graphics lol, I'll probably do something similar
Does anyone (that's keeping it) know if you can get any of these "recall perks" without returning it? Like any of the bill credits Samsung or the carriers are offering or money back for accessories?

No, you don't lose anything going to Nova launcher. Nova is waaaay better than touchwiz. Not even close, at least for me.
It would be a pure miracle if brand new OS's like Android were released without bugs. But we are not living in a utopia - Android 7.1.1 is extremely buggy. (BTW, if you are not experiencing bugs, your settings and apps installed are very different, and not at all like mine. Hence the bugs - they are not features, they appear when they please, for different setups.) One of the latest bugs is the "Android OS" battery drain. I have my Pixel XL set up like the rest of my phones - minimal notifications, minimal features, minimal drain. And until 7.1.1 and the latest "Google" app update, my stuff was working just fine.
Enter the newest update, BAM! We have battery drain from "Android OS." No battery drain before 7.1.1! Double battery drain after!
Here are the actual numbers.
Normal battery drain with a smartwatch connected, most basic push notifications enabled like Gmail, wifi on - about 0.5% battery per hour. Phone awake time is about 10% or less, depending on settings.
New, abnormal battery drain, with a new Google app - drain is at least double, 1+% per hour, phone awake time is at least 20+% time.
This used to be a problem before. Then they fixed it. Now it is here again!
It's as if these people keep reusing the same basic and buggy code!
Is it possible? Google started hiring coding people who reuse buggy original code without even checking what was wrong with it in the first place?
Sorry to hear your having problem. Mine has been buttery smooth since day one. Only issue I ever had was using open wifi networks but that I fixed but turning off the setting to automatically connect to open wifi networks, which is of no use to me anyway as I know all the places that I go that have free wifi and they are all saved to my phone.

Thank you. I've just been very frustrated with the inability of the coolest company in the world to fix the most obvious bugs.
It's like their ideology has become "innovate first, fix problems at the very last moment, no matter the cost." So many bugs!
And I've been using Samsung phones, intertwined with a few Nexus and HTC devices, for the last 3 years - their update schedule is atrocious, but at least they release nearly flawless updates. Also, their software is top notch, aside from the lag and non-functioning S-Voice, which one can disable.
But the Google Bluetooth problems have been around for literally years. And the "Android OS" battery drain bug has been around for a few years. They keep fixing it, and keep reintroducing it. It seems like whoever is in charge of their Bluetooth department is a complete moron. Same for Android OS battery drain bug.

I don't understand. You are a developer with 65k thanks votes yet you seem to suggest that lag elimination is more important than squashing of bugs? Do you work for Google, because that seems to be their strategy now? Maybe because iPhones are faster, even though they are complete ****...
I am sorry but currently I cannot use my BT car kit, Motorola Roadster 2, because a BT bug disables it when I'm wearing my beautiful Huawei watch with a custom shiny band. I'm sorry but my battery is draining twice faster than it used to after the latest Google app update. And I'm sorry if I like my Samsung Note 7, which tried to do too much and was crucified by the press. It was 10 times the phone my current Pixel XL is. Oh yeah, Note 7 didn't have the BT bug. Life was good!

You don't want to see my screenshot. It's much better than yours even after the Android OS bug. My Pixel XL is currently draining about 1% per hour when it's idle. That is about twice of what it used to do before the latest Google app update. And yours is even twice more!
How can you not see these problems?!
I just never understand why Samsung fans come on Google phone forums and rant like they actually own the devices in question. By the time they end the tirade I'd have sold my "flawed" device and gone back to my Sammy. This has been going on since the N5 with a huge rant in the 5x forum and now in the Pixel and the XL. But to be fair there are Moto fans doing it too. Not many iPhone users, a testament to the phone since they will almost never buy an Android. Bottom line, why don't they just sell it or even better why buy it, if they actually do. It's interesting that there are usually no screen shots backing up the claims of Google bugs (bugs! x3) One bug was simply not enough. I just don't get it. Sell it already!!! (x3)
Its very possible your phone is having issues yet I haven't seen anything that indicates you have tried to fix said issues . Have you done a factory reset ? Have you tried to clear caches ? Is it an app on your phone causing these issues ? I only ask these questions mainly due to the fact the other manufacturers you listed in your post would ask you to do the same thing . As for Scott he has been developing roms since as far back as I can remember and has done nothing but outstanding work . I have personally ran his roms and can honestly say he knows what he is talking about . It was his software I started using when I first started rooting etc etc . As for bugs in OS updates I have seen them on everything from HTC , Samsung , Moto , LG and Apple . I would advise relaxing, doing some digging around to find others who have said problems and utilizing whatever fixes they have applied to correct the issues you mentioned .
It is too bad the op needs to use offensive terms to express him/herself...

Have I done a factory reset? Yes, when Project Fi was just isn't working, and I was on the phone with a Google rep for 90 minutes, I did a factory reset. It fixed the issue with project FI.
Have I tried to clear caches? Yes, I have cleared caches and sometimes data for many apps.
I am beginning to see a pattern.. Are you suggesting that my problems with bugs are of my own doing?
As if I'm using specific settings that only I prefer and apps only I prefer that are breaking a brand new os, that is completely bug free...

Pretty OK attempt to piss people off but a lot of us saw right through it. I'm not here to defend my Pixel XL (which is amazing), I'm actually just here to pick apart your argument. Newsflash: The Note 7, battery issues aside, sucked. (See: With the Note 7, Samsung Still Delivers Embarrassing Real-World Performance).
No screenshots to backup your complaints and your insults and bragging are as ridiculous as the thread title. Someone refutes your claims with actual proof and you claim it's much worse but preface this whole conversation with "Well, if you don't have this battery drain problem it's because you don't use the same apps as me". OK, so is that an Android issue or is it an app issue? I'll admit that Google frameworks updates have caused wakelock and battery drain issues in the past on my N5X and N5, but they were usually easily remedied. Not every release is perfect. Even a company like Apple, developing a new iOS update for only a handful of devices (not thousands of different ones like Android), struggles with smooth releases.
If you hate the phone so much, sell it. I'm sure someone else would love to have it as a late Christmas gift.

"Pretty OK attempt to piss people off"
You are crazy. That was not my intention at all. I'm sorry you felt that way.
"but a lot of us saw right through it"
You are double crazy to think that you have some kind of an army against me.
"I'm not here to defend my Pixel XL (which is amazing)"
You are literally doing the defending.
I'll skip pointless drivel that follows...
"Not every release is perfect."
No, this one is not perfect! This is my whole point!
How can you blindly praise an OS so buggy?

You can't apologize about making me feel a certain way and then immediately backhand me with an insult like "you're crazy".
It's also not an army, it's a dozen or so users that disagree with almost everything you're saying.

Because I stated my opinion of it being amazing? This is the one and only time I mention the Pixel XL, so I'm not sure how I'm defending it. If I had my N5X my attitude would still be the same. Is your argument against Android or is it the Pixel? Or is it Google? Hmm.

Ok? You skipped the meat and potatoes of my post because you have no retort.

Let me rephrase: No release is perfect.
Now, let me ask you something. Do you update your computer? Do you like to update the apps you use every day? What's guaranteed to be on a change log for an update? Bug Fixes. Why are you holding Android (but only stock Android, not Samsung's bloated rendition) to a much higher standard? I'm blindly praising Android as much as you're blindly praising Samsung and your Nade Note 7.
Let me ask you something else. You say you're not trolling so what is the point of this thread? To see if anyone agrees with you? To fire up this silent majority of people that secretly hate their brand new phone? You can be disappointed with your flagship phone all you want, but you don't have to force your opinion on others. I'm always down for a civilized conversation but I won't tolerate insults as a rebuttal. I'm sorry you're disappointed with your phone or Android in general and I hope that you find the phone you're looking for. Maybe the Note 8 will be your cup of tea. Or maybe check out the OP3T, but be careful, it's running the latest release of Android.

Apologize to you... Right.
I actually laughed out loud when I read that.
I don't normally do that.
