home button problem? need advice.. - Verizon Note 7 Questions & Answers

Couple questions. Can anyone move their home button at all vertically? Mine does slightly only on the left side. Also if I just barely push/click it on the very right corner of the button I can make it click without a response however if I push it with normal force on the right it responds like normal. I can't do this on the very left side/corner. That side is very sensitive and if I barely touch it it responds. The feel/sound is a little different when I push the right side too. It's definitely a tighter fit on that side.
I'm wondering if I should go through the hassle of trying to get a replacement because of this. My s6 had a bad wobbly loose home button and it was annoying. I ordered my phone through Verizon customer service through an upgrade. If I want them to send me a new one they have to charge me $200 again and then when I send one back I have to wait 10 days for a refund.. And the closest Verizon store is almost 2 hours away
I'm also hesitant to swap bcuz first charge on this one and I'm already getting over 6 hours on screen time and I haven't even disabled any bloatedware yet. It however does have the gap/light leak all around but apparently majority of them have that. Advice? What would you do in my position? Thanks guys... Wish I could just get a perfect device for once.

I'm really picky about my phone's so yes I would go through the hassle to switch it out but that's me. Mine is tight doesn't move and always responds.

Screen shuts off when slid up!

So... all of a sudden, everytime i slide the screen up, it shuts the screen off. I slide it back, hit the power button a few times, then it turns back on?

Is my screen busted?
Power off your phone, remove the battery and then put it back in, making sure it fits in there snuggly.
That has happened to me, and removing/replacing the battery fixed it.
Yes, as Amy noted this behavior is often attributed to the battery not sitting exactly right in the compartment. Sometimes just popping it out and back in is enough, but some people have reported needeing to slip a small piece of paper or something similar under the battery cover as well to help keep it snug. (It seems that the sliding motion can be enough to shake the battery off the contacts if it's not secure enough).
Let us know if that clears it up
okay. what the deuce.
my tp2 just literally started doing the same.
earlier today it was perfectly fine.
but now.
i slide out the keyboard and the screen goes blank.
i tried the remove battery and restart.
didn't help.
i tried the paper between battery and cover.
didn't help either.
the screen only goes blank when completely slid out.
if i hold it open just before completely open the screen is still on.
any suggestions?
thanks.
Yea, none of those things worked. However, keeping the battery snug helped with the issue of not hearing anything through the handset.
It honestly sounds to me like both of you are dealing with a loose connection between the screen and the motherboard somewhere, either power or video feed, can't say for sure which. Unless you're willing to disassemble your rhodium (which isn't impossible, just complex), it sounds like it's time to send it to a service center (for AT&T) or to HTC, since that would be a warranty repair.
I hope that this is just freak coincidence that both of you had this happen just now, and not a sign that we're all at risk of having the same issue eventually
How long have each of you had your phones?
EDIT: One more question for you guys...whatever is on the display on your screen rotates into landscape before the display shuts off right?

i have own the phone for about three weeks...
though. bought it used from a friend who had it for four months.
but my friend bought it used from somebody too...
aka. not sure how long it has been used.
the display is rotated. and stays on as long as the right side is held.
before the 'tilt piece' is revealed. as soon as it is. the screen goes blank.
and i believe it would be the video feed...
i can still type with the keyboard. just can't see what i am typing.
unless i hold the screen from sliding completely out on the right.
and about the warranty...
would i have a warranty with htc still?
don't have proof of purchase.
just the phone and original box.
thanks.
My AT&T Tilt 2 has been exhibiting this behavior for some weeks now. It seems to be centered around the keyboard slide, but the behavior comes and goes. I found that slamming the phone on the desktop would bring it back to life for a little while, but then it would start to clap out again in a few days. What a pile.
Anyway, I have a fresh one from AT&T to swap out. Now all I have to do is get all my applications and stuff transferred over to the new phone before sending the craprod back to them.

Oh boy...yeah I didn't realize you'd gotten it third-hand. Well it has been less than a year since the Rhodium was released, so it's possible that HTC will still honor the 1-year manufacturer's warranty, but I can't guarantee it. My suggestion would be to just contact HTC America's service group (1-888-617-1113) and see what they say.
Best case: they agree to cover the repair
Worst case: an example of one of the risks you take when you buy something through "unofficial" channels
Yea luckily for me, I bought it second hand, but it was purchased from a retail store, meaning I got a warranty exchange. I just sent it back.
having same issue
im having same issue, when the phone is slid open, goes black, nothing gets it back on, the buttons light up, display dead
however, if i place it in stand by via power button in regular mode, then slide it open, it works, ive rattled and shook the phone, never goes back off, im typing this with it open and tilted....
any ideas?

[Q] Evo 4 days old, screen having physical issues already.. Help

I just bought my phone 4 days ago, and I'm having issues with the screen responsiveness. It just freezes up at times, sometimes it thinks one finger is touching it and does the whole zoom in/out thing when I touch it, randomly issues commands, touch buttons at the bottom don't respond, and only way it works for a lil again is to touch the power button to turn the screen off and back on. I have a link attached which shows the main problem area is when a lil pressure is put near the bottom, everything starts getting glitchy. It does this with all 3 ROMs I've used, which is another thing, I have to un root it so I can bring it to the sprint store. Since it's a brand new phone, and only 4 days old so far, do you think they will just replace it with another new model, or a refurb? I'd be extremely mad if it's a refurb since it's still in the 30 days. They also added TEP to my plan which I havent taken off yet. But since this is a hardware issue..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7-sNFfQhMY
The video doesn't even begin to show all the problems, but that's one I can replicate pretty well by holding it at the bottom.
Sometimes you get a bad phone HTC isn't perfect since you are within 30 sprint will switch it for a new one no charge.
Just go get a replacement
like others have said get a replacement simple and easy

Eh, I'm on my third replacement, and gettng the last wasn't exactly "simple and easy ". Oh, and guess what needs to get replaced again due to another faulty display (interestingly this is the first phone I'm returning for the display... unless you count screen separation)?
Order a replacement, and when you get it, don't walk out of the store until you're sure the phone is working as it should.
Make sure they are not going to place an upgrade 20.00 fee on your bill.I had a bad screen as far as lifting up out of the frame from the bottom and light leaking out. When I went online a few days later to view my bill there was a upgrade fee and I had to call them but it was painless just had to give up about 5 minutes to get it done.
Just FYI
I'm really hoping when I go in tomorrow, they can return my phone and get a NEW one on the spot. I dont want them telling me they have to order it, etc, because I know they have a lot in stock. Do I just tell them I want a replacement because my screen is messing up when touching the rim of the screen? I really hope I dont get hassled. The phone is back to stock, S-ON, fully unrooted.
This video shows the issue even more. It's so bad today, I can barely use the phone
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qW5f1nHUmwY
I got my replacement today, brand new, hardware 0004. My first one was 0003. I am slightly disappointed because I can tell I have the "bad" screen version. It has a much more yellow tint to it than my first one. My rebate is also going to be declined now unfortunately, and it's going to be a hassle I can already tell.
Edit: I thought I have the worse screen, but it looks a lot better than the youtube comparison video I have seen. It also fades the different brightness settings rather than a solid quick change using power control. It still is a tad more yellow I think. I hope I can root this one just as easy as my last one.

[Q] Power button about to break?

So, i've had my Inc since the day it was released, and lately i've noticed my power button is really starting to worry me. When i first got it, the button protruded slightly from the phone, and had some space before the actual contact in the phone, now, its pretty much stuck in, and rests on that clicker. Is anyone else having this issue? As of now i'm worried it will just stop working, as now it takes 2 tries to wake it about 60% of the time. And im thinking of unrooting and getting it replaced. Will verizon give a replacement for this?
I understand VZ will replace phones within one year.
I've had my phone just as long without any hardware issue.
Make sure you have no dings on the phone that looks like it took a hit or a drop.

Yea, just wanted to check to make sure they would replace for that. If it does come to that though can i request another amoled or am i gonna be screwed into a slcd? For the most part the phones in good shape. There is one scratch on the side but its minor.

[Q] Side power button not as responsive.

Anyone had similar issues?
Over three weeks in, I am still blown away by this phone as I am finding new features everyday BUT I am also having difficulties with my power button. As I read in the Sprint forum, some time ago, it was noticed that the power button seemed loose, 'rocky' on a pivot. Other Note II demo phones had some flexibility with the power button as well. I haven't read about any problems with a lagging or unresponsive power (not home) button due to this but NOW it seems I have to press moderately-centered on the button to either wake or ZZZ the phone. Before it seemed I can press this button with as much force as the home button, even at an angle (Note II is wider after all). So my BIG question Have you ever pressed on the power button more than once to just wake up your phone? Or, put it to sleep? Do you have the press the button dead centered for it to work? And, does your power button seemed rocky, even slightly?
I am not rooted...running on good ole factory specs! My phone has never been dropped or damaged either. I would hate to send the phone to Samsung and be without one for 2 weeks, so I figured to troubleshoot with you guys first
Much thanks!

my phone did the samething within 3 days of when i got it. i just took mines back to at&t since it was so quick and the manager gave me a new one. hopefully someone does come up with a way to fix it without you having to send it yo samsung.
mine works flawlessly
Haven't noticed any issues with mine, but I suppose these kinds of issues are why I bought insurance.
My power button is 'rocky'; it seems to pivot from the center. However, I can press it anywhere to wake the phone or turn the screen off. There's a satisfying click when I do press it, so I'm not worried.
Same issue with my power button. Happened only a few days after I received mine as well.

I would definitely take it back and try to get it repaired or exchanged. Mine doesnt have that issue at all and Im always turn it on and off.

Gathering the input so far, I think I might have to send this to Samsung to get it repaired since I passed my return/exchange period I have insurance but I am also under warranty with Sammy, so that route would be cheapest. Good thing I still have my old flip phone from 2005 that still works but going to dread going back 7 years though!
Lets hope that this doesn't become an eventual problem for most. Thanks for the comments so far.
Definitely take it back to repair it. My power button started off rocky and eventually became worse with use. I had to replace it. Get it fixed ASAP
got my first one replace with a new one due to same reason.
Mine works fine to turn off.
Turn on is a bit more picky.
Does not rock or is not loose.
I use home button to wake

Does anyone know what at&t's return period is offhand? I've got the exact same issue with my handset :/
Also, if I'm past that point, does Sammy charge for fixing the button?

I believe it used to be 30 days for personal accounts, now those terms only apply to corporate accounts. For personal accounts, its now 14 days. From what I understand, this policy covers items bought from a corporate AT&T store, or ordered direct from AT&T. You are allowed to exchange or return at a corporate store, with a possibility of a $35 restocking fee depending on the scenario. Also, you can also send it back to AT&T but you will have to cover shipping. I only suspect if you buy from a re-seller (aka a non-corporate AT&T store but clearly marked 'AT&T') you can exchange or return at a corporate store.
From what I was told by AT&T and a brief conversation with Samsung, the Note II carries a 1 year manufacture's warranty. I don't know the specifics, but assuming there is no abuse or damage of the phone caused by the user, and if the phone does not perform as it should (like mentioned in this thread), Samsung's warranty will cover it with no charge. But realize, unless you have a backup phone, you won't have a phone for 2 weeks! Also, there is a possibility that Samsung may use reconditioned parts, and if they can't fix your phone, you will get a reconditioned model But what if you have insurance? Then there is a deductible. A possibility of a reconditioned phone too?
Oh, what to do?
What is return period for premier accounts? Is it also 14 days?

Mine is the oppsite, it is too sensitive, not very tactile. I hit it accidentally all the time.
my power button just went wonky last night. it used to be somewhat rocky, but it was responsive. now it barely moves. i cant tell if im pressing it or not. it still powers on the phone. but there is no click or comfirming feeling at all. it might as well be capacitive now. about 40 days old.

[Q] keyboard issue..

Im brand new to HTC products im usually the galaxy guy and the ATT rep convinced me that the ONE M8 would be the way to go today since my S4 got stolen last night ... however i am generally pleased with the device i was wondering if anyone else has issues with the keyboard in portrait orientation. Long story short the HIGHLY used keys on the left side of my keyboard will not recognize my input using my left thumb... i have to literally take my right thumb across the device to input the E, R, T, and sometimes even S keys... is this something I am doing wrong or does anyone else have issues like this ( seems like its almost not sensitive enough to read the input or something i can hit it 100 times with my left thumb and nothing but hit it once with my right and it takes it )... When i turn to landscape to type it seems to do alright but my habits usually keep me in portrait so this is a real irritant if you can imagine. Any thoughts at all or anyone else have a fix for this? Considering returning to the store tomorrow to explain my grievance. Side note... I have tried different keyboards from the play store with the same issue... :crying:
Sounds like a defective left thumb.

Dinstall screen touch test from play, it will show every touch point on you phone. Seems like you have a defective digitizer.

Someone told me that the M8 has a very active screen all the way to the edges... i think ive figured out that its my fat hands that are rolling onto the screen somewhere while trying to type text messages causing the device not to recognize my input. The way i hold the device i guess is the issue because even during calibration it gave me issues with the left sided letters.... so i guess i have to either find a new way to hold the device or get some kind of case to accommodate my fat hands and tight grip on the device .... any tips or tricks on how to hold these things when texting to keep my hands off the screen? I tend to hold the device more in my palms than fingers for safety im a bit clumsy and i think thats the issue.
