Hey guys, I got a used HTC 10 at what I feel was a great price. The one hitch, the bottom speaker appears to be blown. I haven't seen any threads about this, and can't find any parts online. It's extremely distorted, rattles and hisses. I tried cleaning it with a toothbrush and canned air. Any advice is welcome!
Thnks
Same thing happened to me. This happened after a few months of owning my phone, and it was nowhere near water when the speaker blew. I noticed it in the morning when my alarm went off and I have tried everything like toothbrush and canned air. Anybody have any idea if it can be easily replaced/fixed or will i need a new phone?

well, it should be a warranty case, not? Just send it in to your carrier or HTC to repait it.

Well thing is I got it through T-Mobile not directly from HTC. So far, no T-Mobile rep has been able to tell me if I have uh oh protection and since I'm rooted I don't think it's under warranty
Have any of you managed to sort the problem? I am just recently having this issue also.
A broken speaker, not damaged by the customer has nothing to do with root and you still have warranty even without uhoh. Therefore send in over Telekom or directly to HTC. Or at least contact both and ask both what to do now

Yeah, HTC have said that rooting does not necessarily void your warranty so long as it's not user induced damage. I had my rooted one x replaced for a similar reason.

I even bricked my one x around 2 times, don't ask me how. I still have no clue. it was the **** tegra 3 haha and also my screen was replaced due to spider app and it had a very bad screen on it. when my motherboard bricked I sent it in and what happened? they replaced EVERYTHING except the housing xD and I just had to pay the delivery costs to them

It's a hardware issue, rooted or not HTC should replace it.

My 4 Month old HOX has developed a horizontal bar shaped area in the middle of the screen which is dead to touch!
Used the pointer trace in development tools to confirm this.
have re-locked and stocked the ROM for return, does anybody think i'll have any problems with warranty??
As it has to go directly back to HTC for repair...
As its a hardware fault I'm hoping not....
Cheers
Well, it all.depends on where you purchased it.
After 4 months, a repair is the most likely course of action.

Regardless of the possibility of your phone being rejected on the basis that the bootloader was unlocked, you should still give it a shot. Give it to HTC.
Did you drop it? If I'm right, its the digitizer that's messed up.

Give it to the Service Center. It could be a loose cable to the digitizer or something. Anyways there's a good chance they'll fix it, Good Luck.
Had the same issue with nexus s. Middle line dead. Was really sorry cause was a new phone. One day my gf made the bad and static electricity stuck on her fingers and after she moved the phone. Once she touched. It it made a sparkle. I swear the phone got rid of the dead line. Either I was lucky or maybe it just need it a push.

I had the same problem with my first HOX. I send it back and they replaced
I read through few posts about people being able to claim their warranty even after unlocking their bootloader , now these people had almost the same problem ..there screen wouldn't display anything or their phone wouldn't boot up at all. So I guess HTC won't check for your warranty if your phone is not booting up ...they'll just check your bill and see if its under warranty and do it for free ...

Well I've seen people get away with this, but I still darent unlock/root.
Because I know what my luck is like and I would be the only one that doesn't get repaired !!
It took me 4 weeks to pluck up the courage to unlock my phone and I'm glad I did. I now have no warrenty but I do have an awesome phone.
Also I heard that if your phone is completely dead there is no way to tell if the phone is unlocked or not. So there is a reasonable chance you'll get your phone replaced.

lol sounds like a good plan, now everyone who needs repair will burn it's phone and get new replacement under warranty

Yeah I've been debating for about 3 weeks now, would you really say its worth it?
What ROM you using?
And, about the warranty, what does completely dead mean?
Not booting?
Or bricked etc?
Cheers mate.
I am using Cyanogen Domination 10. It is still work in progress but it stable enough for everyday use. I would also say if you do unlock your phone try roms other as well because they all offer something different.
Dead as in bricked, although if you follow unlock steps carefully there is little chance of bricking your phone
I unlocked my phone the day I bought it ... I'm not regretting it all but the little yellow spot in the bottom left corner is annoying sometimes ..

lets just make this clear, its certainly posted here already in many many threads...
if you read the unlocking stuff properly on the htc website, it clearly says that the warranty will be invalid for anything caused by unlocking the bootloader
so if you have a blatant hardware problem, ie the wifi antenna problem, they still have to repair it foc
so basically, unless you brick your device, you still have a warranty.
they might try insisting on replacing the main board for a cost, which i've heard quite often. the wifi fix requires changing the main board anyway, so for at least that problem, they shouldn't charge to fix.
still, it does depend on the type of problem as to whether you could convince them not to change the main board..
Hello
Just thought I would let concerned people know that the UK service centre have no problems repairing phones that have been unlocked. I sent mine in last week and they replaced the main board, even though the phone was unlocked and even had a custom rom installed. Spoke to the guy there and they stated they are happy to repair unlocked phones as long as its a genuine hardware fault.

Thanks for the input, I guess thats why their disclaimer says "May Void Warranty" :good:
Indeed so. Just quite refreshing that even the guys at the other end realise that flashing custom roms does not in any way make hardware fail.
Why did they change the board? What the problems? Battery drain? Screen flicker?
Thanks

Sent mine away on Thursday due to a faulty digitizer with a relocked bootloader and things seem to have went smoothly. Using their tracker my status today went from "in repair" then briefly to "repair complete" then back to "in repair". Now it's reverted back to the very first stage "request initiated". Not sure what's going on now, might have to give them a call.
The screen would not come on when you pressed the wake button, only the soft keys at the bottom. Funny old thing mine went from in repair right back to awaiting phone. Gave them a bell and they said it had already been picked up by UPS. Good service thats for sure.

Oh my god, I've been holding off ROOTING ETC for this exact reason.
Is this the actual HTC repair centre?
Or was this some sort of general Repair Centre?
Thanks for the info !

If that's the case then mine is probably on it's way back to me. I'm blown away by their customer service, my bootloader was relocked and I had no proof of purchase but they still fixed it for free - amazing.

My bootloader was also unlocked and they repaired it for free.
HTC One X Service
Just wanted to add that I sent my 3 branded one x off to htc uk on thursday and got it back all fixed and working perfectly the following tuesday, Also my one x was unlocked and also had a custom rom on it as well and nothing was said and I was not charged for the service which was for a replacment screen due to the yellow patches issue. they even fitted a whole brand new digitiser as well into the bargain.
I am one happy customer and now my one x feels solid and has a perfect screen like it should have had in the first place lol
Well done HTC UK great service and very fast repair.
Reckon I should try and send my arhd unlocked one x off because of WiFi and one barely working UI capacitive button?

Should be fine. Just relock the bootloader and RUU back to stock
This is a couple of pic from my HOX that is faulty....i know theres afew people here that having the same screen problem as me and maybe not....the screen is glitching and sometimes blank but touchscreen still responsive....cause my warranty is void and i cant have a replacement, i want to make a repair at any phone shop that can repair it or if im brave enough, i do it myself...the cost in HTC center is expensive...what i want to know is, is the problem here is from the LCD display only and not on any other hardware...cause there is a LCD display with Digitizer that sell is cheaper than HTC center...and original..if i replace it, can the problem be solve...is it can be done...tq
At a guess I would say it's an issue with the memory holding the framebuffer, but it could be a problem with the bus connecting it to the screen.
Hard to say if a screen replacement would fix it.
If a stock ROM doesn't fix it, it's a hardware fault. That's usually covered under consumer protection laws. HTC are not obliged to uphold (or even provide) a warranty, but the retailer is obliged to honour your statutory rights.
Where did you purchase it?

Sounds serious....i have flash everything to stock using the right RUU and relocked the bootloader...when sending it to repair, they claim that i have rooted the device and warranty is void...when i said the cost of repair, they said its about RM500( around 150 USD )..and this is a lot...
I purchased my HOX in my country MALAYSIA, in 2nd hand market...the problem occur about a month of using....i received in perfect condition and LOCKED bootloader...
i hope this help, cause i really wanna get my HOX fix....
even i have the same problem.......it began shortly after the JB update...........i bought my phone from mobile store......but the warranty is given by HTC and i am afraid i also have voided my warranty by opening it and unlocking the bootloader...what to do ??
What i want to know is what causing this problem..if its like what BenPope said....is there a way to fix it....manually and cheaply.....
I have restored my stock backup and relocked the bootloader after that I did a hard reset.....after that no screen problem till now.....try it

I don't know what your hox problem but I know it is hardware faulty cuz I read a thread in XDA bout the same problem like yours but the solution is send to HTC and get replacement with new unit. So that won't help you I believe as you void your warranty.
You could try searching in lowyat forum and look for shop that provide repairs for HOX. If you live in KL, there is one shop around pandan indah that could replace your lcd+digitizer for below rm200 i think.

Same problem here..brief history of my One X
1. Phone is rooted, installed AOSP 4.2.2
2. I broke the screen last February and had it replaced (the center said its genuine HTC screen which they ordered from their contact from HTC, I've no way to check though but the quality is as good as the old one so no complaints there)
3. About a month ago, screen wont diplay when I unlock/wake..its just black but it can receive messages, play music etc..I can even answer calls (blind swipe of the screen to answer)
4. I gave up, and bought a new phone as I dont want to spend another S$200 bucks or so to repair it (initial screen replacement cost me S$240).But, out of curiosity, I booted it up last month (charged it to retrieve some pictures) and the display showed. The next morning, again it wont turn off.. As I have it encased in an otterbox commuter, I decided, WTH just do drop tests see if the otterbox was really able to protect.
After a few drops, I decided to wake the screen..And yes again it worked LOL
Now this on and off thing happens a lot..sometimes I'm able to wake it sometimes not (after a long period of the display being off)..
Just now, it wont turn on again, and again I dropped it face down (for the lulz) and the screen turned on again
here it is now, charging
One thing i noticed though, the screen would corrupt and lock up (sometimes) when I rotate screen to landscape
PS. damn this HTC One ultrapixel camera sucks
I got my 5x about a few weeks ago, and it's been perfect so far - until a couple of days ago. The earpiece speaker buzzes something awful when I'm talking to people. Any sound coming from that speaker makes this buzzing noise - almost like a blown speaker would. Oddly, I can't hear the buzz if I hold the phone up to my left ear.
I Googled around and haven't found anything about this which is odd because it's hard to believe it's just me. So, I'm checking in here to find out if anyone else has experienced this or heard of this problem.
Thanks!
I had this issue with my first 5X, a few weeks after launch. RMA'd it and haven't had the issue since.

If you bought it from Google, they send out advance replacements before you send back the defective one, so you never need to go without a phone.

nice!!!!! Score!!!!!!
And no sooner than 1 week did my new, replacement 5x do the same thing. What a huge disappointment this phone has been. So, now I have to get a 3rd phone, and do the RMA process. I explained to the guy on the phone that I don't have any confidence in this phone now, and that I don't want to be stuck down the road with a phone that has this problem. He said the warranty runs one year from the ORIGINAL phone purchase. That doesn't help me very much unless the 3rd time really IS the charm, and this phone will not have this problem. I'm really hoping, and my fingers are crossed. I asked to just be refunded so I could get an entirely different phone, but he told me no.
I'll be back to update this.

This is not a software issue, it's a hardware defect. Keep sending it back until you get a good one. I had to RMA four of these things for hardware defects. QC of Nexus devices has always sucked, and until this changes, I fully expect to go through this with every purchase.
I had this issue and this going to sound weird but put your mouth on the speaker and blow in and suck out. It's weird but it worked for me. Of course RMA is the best choice

It's just crazy to me. I ditched my ATT Galaxy S4 (for multiple reasons), and I promised myself I would get an actual Google phone next time around. So, I did, and I always thought LG made wonderful electronics, but it seems not to be the case. Disappointed, but hopefully the 3rd time is the charm.
I bought one and I changed it myself. Spare part was different, made in plastic instead of metal. No issues till now

Oh, you bought a new speaker. I was confused. Well, my third phone is doing the same thing, and oddly, blowing and then sucking from the speaker area fixes it temporarily.
I requested a refund from Google. I'm not interested in paying $350 for a phone that I have to blow into the speaker to make it perform properly - that just sounds silly.
