HOX screen problem and repair - HTC One X

This is a couple of pic from my HOX that is faulty....i know theres afew people here that having the same screen problem as me and maybe not....the screen is glitching and sometimes blank but touchscreen still responsive....cause my warranty is void and i cant have a replacement, i want to make a repair at any phone shop that can repair it or if im brave enough, i do it myself...the cost in HTC center is expensive...what i want to know is, is the problem here is from the LCD display only and not on any other hardware...cause there is a LCD display with Digitizer that sell is cheaper than HTC center...and original..if i replace it, can the problem be solve...is it can be done...tq

At a guess I would say it's an issue with the memory holding the framebuffer, but it could be a problem with the bus connecting it to the screen.
Hard to say if a screen replacement would fix it.
If a stock ROM doesn't fix it, it's a hardware fault. That's usually covered under consumer protection laws. HTC are not obliged to uphold (or even provide) a warranty, but the retailer is obliged to honour your statutory rights.
Where did you purchase it?

Sounds serious....i have flash everything to stock using the right RUU and relocked the bootloader...when sending it to repair, they claim that i have rooted the device and warranty is void...when i said the cost of repair, they said its about RM500( around 150 USD )..and this is a lot...
I purchased my HOX in my country MALAYSIA, in 2nd hand market...the problem occur about a month of using....i received in perfect condition and LOCKED bootloader...
i hope this help, cause i really wanna get my HOX fix....

even i have the same problem.......it began shortly after the JB update...........i bought my phone from mobile store......but the warranty is given by HTC and i am afraid i also have voided my warranty by opening it and unlocking the bootloader...what to do ??

What i want to know is what causing this problem..if its like what BenPope said....is there a way to fix it....manually and cheaply.....

I have restored my stock backup and relocked the bootloader after that I did a hard reset.....after that no screen problem till now.....try it

I don't know what your hox problem but I know it is hardware faulty cuz I read a thread in XDA bout the same problem like yours but the solution is send to HTC and get replacement with new unit. So that won't help you I believe as you void your warranty.
You could try searching in lowyat forum and look for shop that provide repairs for HOX. If you live in KL, there is one shop around pandan indah that could replace your lcd+digitizer for below rm200 i think.

Damn, that's bad...I was hoping its not...bad luck for me then...so I think repairing the motherboard only can be done in HTC center only...not other phone shops...how much can you think it will cost...

I have found out something....whenever the screen go wanky, when I flex the phone, the phone sometimes respond differently...sometimes ok sometimes make it worst...is this screen or motherboard problem I wonder....

Same problem here..brief history of my One X
1. Phone is rooted, installed AOSP 4.2.2
2. I broke the screen last February and had it replaced (the center said its genuine HTC screen which they ordered from their contact from HTC, I've no way to check though but the quality is as good as the old one so no complaints there)
3. About a month ago, screen wont diplay when I unlock/wake..its just black but it can receive messages, play music etc..I can even answer calls (blind swipe of the screen to answer)
4. I gave up, and bought a new phone as I dont want to spend another S$200 bucks or so to repair it (initial screen replacement cost me S$240).But, out of curiosity, I booted it up last month (charged it to retrieve some pictures) and the display showed. The next morning, again it wont turn off.. As I have it encased in an otterbox commuter, I decided, WTH just do drop tests see if the otterbox was really able to protect.
After a few drops, I decided to wake the screen..And yes again it worked LOL
Now this on and off thing happens a lot..sometimes I'm able to wake it sometimes not (after a long period of the display being off)..
Just now, it wont turn on again, and again I dropped it face down (for the lulz) and the screen turned on again
here it is now, charging
One thing i noticed though, the screen would corrupt and lock up (sometimes) when I rotate screen to landscape
PS. damn this HTC One ultrapixel camera sucks

[Q] Need a bit of help!

Ok so i have 2 HTC Desire's
Desire 1 has a smashed (SLCD) screen but worked fine
Desire 2 is temperamental some times it will come on and work for a bit but then it will reboot then hang at the HTC Logo ( this has a AMOLED screen)
is there any way to get ether one working i have reflashed Desire 2 to 2.3 thinking it was a bad rom or something but still the same i even taken the AMOLED screen out of Desire 2 and tried it in Desire 1 i get sound but no screen, the touch screen works as i can unlock it
any help would be nice
Thanks
I would send them back to HTC specially the 2nd one but I guess you don't have warranty for both phones.
no warranty =( there both just over a year old
just wish one would work
I guess when you sent them to HTC and the phone's are out of warranty, they will repair them if you pay for it. So I recommend you to send them to HTC and let create a free quotation and then you decide, if you let them repair or not.
Both phone have been opened up so there ain't no warranty stickers, will that matter?

It's out of warranty so it really wont matter at this point. They'll fix it but you'll have to pay for probably the parts and service.
Yeah i just spoke to a rep on there chat and he say's
We are booking your handset in for repair service. Please note that if our engineers determine that the fault you are experiencing is caused by physical damage, wear and tear or illegal software, it will not be covered by warranty. The repair will be chargeable and we will send you a quote. Should you not wish to pay that quote, there will be an approximate £25 diagnosis, shipping & handling fee to have the device returned to you and not repaired.
i know it will be silly money if i get a quote so i would have to pay £25 just to get my phone back =( ill have a go at fixing one there must be away LOL
I'm not sure how parts cost but it looks like you have a better chance of fixing the one with the busted SLCD than the 2nd one that seems to require a motherboard change.
yeah i know =( random one i know but aint there no way of getting the AMOLED screen to work on Desire 1

I believe it's not possible. It goes beyond simply changing the display and the digitizer. A complete change of mother board could be required. I'm NO expert on the matter just so you know.

From what I've seen, you cannot use an amoled screen on an slcd handset. And vice versa.

X One has developed screen dead zone

My 4 Month old HOX has developed a horizontal bar shaped area in the middle of the screen which is dead to touch!
Used the pointer trace in development tools to confirm this.
have re-locked and stocked the ROM for return, does anybody think i'll have any problems with warranty??
As it has to go directly back to HTC for repair...
As its a hardware fault I'm hoping not....
Cheers
Well, it all.depends on where you purchased it.
After 4 months, a repair is the most likely course of action.

Regardless of the possibility of your phone being rejected on the basis that the bootloader was unlocked, you should still give it a shot. Give it to HTC.
Did you drop it? If I'm right, its the digitizer that's messed up.

Give it to the Service Center. It could be a loose cable to the digitizer or something. Anyways there's a good chance they'll fix it, Good Luck.
Had the same issue with nexus s. Middle line dead. Was really sorry cause was a new phone. One day my gf made the bad and static electricity stuck on her fingers and after she moved the phone. Once she touched. It it made a sparkle. I swear the phone got rid of the dead line. Either I was lucky or maybe it just need it a push.

[Q] BSOD after repair by HTC Europe!! Should i resend for repair?

My device had gotten the BSOD of death the week before 22nd May, so I sent it off for a repair to which it came back 'fine' on the 4th june. Having used it for a day or 2 I assumed the problem was fixed.. Mainly due to actually being able to see the screen/bootloader/booting screen! On the third day of having it I started to get graphical glitches on the screen, as show in the link below these were the kind of glitches I had on my device before it went blank. I did drain it to and then fully charge to see if that fixed it, it did I thought until saturday morning when it went back to the same BSOD problem as shown in the youtube link below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2083676&highlight=screen+glitch
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFvABvJXDc8
This video shows the problem except the screen doesn't turn on at all, but it does show the artificats/glitches that I did get before the blackout..
TL;dr - Sent phone off for repair 22nd may, returned 4th june, thought was fixed, screen problems again 6th-8th before BSOD again...
My phone is contracted through 3 would it be best to see if they can repair it as obviously the HTC repair wasn't done correctly... or should I try get a replacement from HTC as I don't want to keep sending it off every other week to get fixed! Any advice would be appreciated
If it's under warranty, it's always advisable to send it to HTC for repairs ! If you can get a replacement, it would be awesome!

Yeah it is under warranty, I did get it repaired and returned earlier in the week.. but the problem has returned, which i think that either the display wasn't repaired or it is a motherboard problem..

More than likely now they've sent it back and the problem persists they'll choose one of two options, replace the motherboard or simply give you a new device.
Either way it will be the same as a completely new device so I'd send it back to HTC first.

Having looked at my fastboot screen from the repair it is back to locked instead of relocked, which makes me think they did replace the motherboard as I got a new IMEI but the screen stayed the same.. I've sent a ticket to them and posted on their Facebook just waiting for a reply...
Edit: Phone is now getting picked up tomorrow between 12 and 5 and fault correctly described this time so hopefully will be good as new soon
I know double posts aren't in line with the rules but I thought that has its been over 2 weeks since I posted it.....
So yeah it is still at the repair centre, apparently waiting for a part for a replacement... I think end of july i might get it back Anyone else experienced anything like this?

I am having HTC One X from 14 months, but from last one month I am too having the Blank Screen and Screen flickering problem. The problem has worsened in last one week. I have done hard reset and got the software reinstall from the service center but nothing helped. The HTC Service center guy is asking me to replace the Motherboard and quoting a price around 17000 Rupees (~ $280).
@kkapoorr, @others:
Can anyone confirm if replacing Motherboard has indeed solved this problem for them? As my phone is out of warrenty now, I don't want to spend money and see the problem recur..
Also, does the cost of 17K Rs seems reasonable for HTC One X motherboard? Any idea?
Please help guys.. I am getting sleepless nights due to my HTC phone now..

@rrgupta where are you from which service center quoted you 17k ? and i have pm'ed you the possible solution.
I feel it is too much to replace the motherboard at 17K. Better to sell your home for whatever you get and use that 17K to buy something new.

How i can fix this problem! I'm from Brazil and HTC support here was discontinued! Can you talk more about this? Thx
mobo exchange 170 euros
Have exactly the same problem.
Bought two HOX's via ebay from abroad. It's been just after warranty expired when one phone displayed the same symptoms as everybody here describes: firstly power button not responding, black screen, flickering screen etc.
Exchange of mobo (as diagnosed) in my case was 170 euros.
Soon after I fixed my first HOX, the second started going through the same problems. Now it is still operational but less and less every day.
Will think very seriously before sending it for a repair. I loved the phone until now. Will think even harder before buying another HTC device.
Good luck.

[Q] Capacitive buttons not working.

Hi everyone! My phone's capacitive buttons stopped working all of a sudden. I've tried everything including the factory reset, so obviously from what I've read it must be hardware problem. Would this problem have to do with the digitizer? Is there ANY way that this can be repaired? I would send it for repairs but it is rooted and I guess the warranty is voided. :crying:

If you have unlocked the bootloader the warranty is not void,
Email from HTC:
Thank you for your email regarding your HTC One X.
My name is Ozgur and I'm the technical customer service support for the HTC Mail Team.
If the error of the device is not the direct result of unlocking the bootloader or placing a custom ROM, then the device just repaired under warranty. This has always been HTC policy.
HTC normally rejects an unlocked device for warranty if the error of the device is the direct result of unlocking the bootloader or placing a custom ROM. If the warranty has been rejected before, and the fault is an unlock or custom rom, we do not expect that the decision will be different now. We can say that with certainty, however, only if we have inspected the device in our repair center.
So.. you can either flash a ROM to try and see if the hardware is faulty, or just send it in for repair.

Yes, a digitizer replacement will solve the problem. I assume you've fixed it or moved on by now. For whomever else, the digitizer piece can be purchased on ebay for 40-45 dollars. There are youtube videos explaining how to disassemble the phone for the digitizer replacement. Good luck to all.

Go to Craigslist for your city. There are people who will do this for $80 or so for this phone. And of course you can always use Google to find shops you can ship to. If you're good with your hands, the Youtube videos give a decent enough tutorial for a careful novice to complete the repair.
