[Q] Need a bit of help! - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so i have 2 HTC Desire's
Desire 1 has a smashed (SLCD) screen but worked fine
Desire 2 is temperamental some times it will come on and work for a bit but then it will reboot then hang at the HTC Logo ( this has a AMOLED screen)
is there any way to get ether one working i have reflashed Desire 2 to 2.3 thinking it was a bad rom or something but still the same i even taken the AMOLED screen out of Desire 2 and tried it in Desire 1 i get sound but no screen, the touch screen works as i can unlock it
any help would be nice
Thanks

I would send them back to HTC specially the 2nd one but I guess you don't have warranty for both phones.

no warranty =( there both just over a year old
just wish one would work

I guess when you sent them to HTC and the phone's are out of warranty, they will repair them if you pay for it. So I recommend you to send them to HTC and let create a free quotation and then you decide, if you let them repair or not.

Both phone have been opened up so there ain't no warranty stickers, will that matter?

It's out of warranty so it really wont matter at this point. They'll fix it but you'll have to pay for probably the parts and service.

Yeah i just spoke to a rep on there chat and he say's
We are booking your handset in for repair service. Please note that if our engineers determine that the fault you are experiencing is caused by physical damage, wear and tear or illegal software, it will not be covered by warranty. The repair will be chargeable and we will send you a quote. Should you not wish to pay that quote, there will be an approximate £25 diagnosis, shipping & handling fee to have the device returned to you and not repaired.
i know it will be silly money if i get a quote so i would have to pay £25 just to get my phone back =( ill have a go at fixing one there must be away LOL

I'm not sure how parts cost but it looks like you have a better chance of fixing the one with the busted SLCD than the 2nd one that seems to require a motherboard change.

yeah i know =( random one i know but aint there no way of getting the AMOLED screen to work on Desire 1

I believe it's not possible. It goes beyond simply changing the display and the digitizer. A complete change of mother board could be required. I'm NO expert on the matter just so you know.

Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

From what I've seen, you cannot use an amoled screen on an slcd handset. And vice versa.

[Q] Cracked screen

I've just dropped my phone and the screen has cracked. The touchscreen still works the same and there is none of them funny colours on the screen like when you break an lcd so think I have just broke the glass surrounding the case.
Any idea how much it would be to get this repaired, don't have insurance on it and it's the first phone I've ever broken (absolutely gutted)
Screen repairs are expensive. If you're brave you could always give it a go yourself, but i know it's around about 100£ or so for a screen repair on a device like the DHD.
If you send it to HTC make sure if you have a custom ROM to put the stock one back on and un-root and set the CID back to default.

I've had a look at the price for the part and its only £35 for the replacement part, I wouldn't mind having a try at fixing it just need to figure out how to do it as I cannot see any you tube videos on how to do this.

Do I have to do this if I sent it back as it is not a repair under warranty I am after. Mind you I have seen the prices they want to fix it and it's quite expensive
Took me long enough to figure out how to root it and then find a ROM I like, don't fancy the hassle of unrooting it

If the phone is still usable take out some insurance, buy a case (to prevent further damage), give it a month or so, then claim off the insurance.

thats what I've been looking at , will cost about 90 quid if I do it that way with the excess and insurance.
The part isn't too expensive and would give it a try but cannot find any guides on how to do it and looks much more complicated to do than the wifes blackberry screen which I replaced myself last year

If your going to do that (commit insurance fraud), you may wish to stop discussing it on a public forum.

from what I have read on this it's not the lcd that's broke it is just the glass screen digitizer.
That link you sent me does sort of have a step by step guide how to replace it, shame theres no video showing how to actually replace the screen but think I might have a go at it anyway

Insurance claim

I thought I was doing good by being honest ,basically rooted n had custom Rom for device but now back on t-mobile rom . Told them this but they say I'm not covered , basically can't pull ring to unlock n phone randomly flickers when on web and zooms in and out.
They said I didn't take due care to follow manufacturers guidelines and something about downloading an electronic virus .
Am I best just to send it for repair via store and pay the damage ?
9quid for 8months for nothing
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Sounds like a hardware fault, send it to HTC under warranty
9quid? So from the UK?
You're covered by consumer protection laws. Sounds like your digitiser is faulty. Ensure its returned to stock and return it to the shop from whence it came. Dont take no for an answer.
Yeah 9quid a month insurance ,30 line rental. I was worried that they would find out anyway . Going to phone t-mo cs and ask.for repair but no say anything lol
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
It doesn't matter whether they find out.
It sounds like a hardware fault, a manufacturing defect. You don't even need insurance, unless it occurred after dropping it.
The EU recently decided that installing custom ROMs is fine. You'll just have one less thing to argue if you return it to stock.
Your complaint is with the retailer, not HTC.
Thanks for your help , I suppose in essence it shouldnt matter what Rom I run the screen should work . I'll book it in for repair the now . I should have just chucked it off wall. Guy in tmo store said that its the people who are honest that miss out
Good Luck with it, I had deductions when I wanted to update my O.S, into gingerbread. Didn't know if I will make a mistake, damage my phone and if then they will give me the insurance.
Insurance took 10-15mins of putting me on hold to find the terms and conditions , last one x I had smashed in my pocket when I fell off bike lol so thought it best to have it this time

HOX screen problem and repair

This is a couple of pic from my HOX that is faulty....i know theres afew people here that having the same screen problem as me and maybe not....the screen is glitching and sometimes blank but touchscreen still responsive....cause my warranty is void and i cant have a replacement, i want to make a repair at any phone shop that can repair it or if im brave enough, i do it myself...the cost in HTC center is expensive...what i want to know is, is the problem here is from the LCD display only and not on any other hardware...cause there is a LCD display with Digitizer that sell is cheaper than HTC center...and original..if i replace it, can the problem be solve...is it can be done...tq
At a guess I would say it's an issue with the memory holding the framebuffer, but it could be a problem with the bus connecting it to the screen.
Hard to say if a screen replacement would fix it.
If a stock ROM doesn't fix it, it's a hardware fault. That's usually covered under consumer protection laws. HTC are not obliged to uphold (or even provide) a warranty, but the retailer is obliged to honour your statutory rights.
Where did you purchase it?

Sounds serious....i have flash everything to stock using the right RUU and relocked the bootloader...when sending it to repair, they claim that i have rooted the device and warranty is void...when i said the cost of repair, they said its about RM500( around 150 USD )..and this is a lot...
I purchased my HOX in my country MALAYSIA, in 2nd hand market...the problem occur about a month of using....i received in perfect condition and LOCKED bootloader...
i hope this help, cause i really wanna get my HOX fix....
even i have the same problem.......it began shortly after the JB update...........i bought my phone from mobile store......but the warranty is given by HTC and i am afraid i also have voided my warranty by opening it and unlocking the bootloader...what to do ??
What i want to know is what causing this problem..if its like what BenPope said....is there a way to fix it....manually and cheaply.....
I have restored my stock backup and relocked the bootloader after that I did a hard reset.....after that no screen problem till now.....try it

I don't know what your hox problem but I know it is hardware faulty cuz I read a thread in XDA bout the same problem like yours but the solution is send to HTC and get replacement with new unit. So that won't help you I believe as you void your warranty.
You could try searching in lowyat forum and look for shop that provide repairs for HOX. If you live in KL, there is one shop around pandan indah that could replace your lcd+digitizer for below rm200 i think.

Damn, that's bad...I was hoping its not...bad luck for me then...so I think repairing the motherboard only can be done in HTC center only...not other phone shops...how much can you think it will cost...
I have found out something....whenever the screen go wanky, when I flex the phone, the phone sometimes respond differently...sometimes ok sometimes make it worst...is this screen or motherboard problem I wonder....

Same problem here..brief history of my One X
1. Phone is rooted, installed AOSP 4.2.2
2. I broke the screen last February and had it replaced (the center said its genuine HTC screen which they ordered from their contact from HTC, I've no way to check though but the quality is as good as the old one so no complaints there)
3. About a month ago, screen wont diplay when I unlock/wake..its just black but it can receive messages, play music etc..I can even answer calls (blind swipe of the screen to answer)
4. I gave up, and bought a new phone as I dont want to spend another S$200 bucks or so to repair it (initial screen replacement cost me S$240).But, out of curiosity, I booted it up last month (charged it to retrieve some pictures) and the display showed. The next morning, again it wont turn off.. As I have it encased in an otterbox commuter, I decided, WTH just do drop tests see if the otterbox was really able to protect.
After a few drops, I decided to wake the screen..And yes again it worked LOL
Now this on and off thing happens a lot..sometimes I'm able to wake it sometimes not (after a long period of the display being off)..
Just now, it wont turn on again, and again I dropped it face down (for the lulz) and the screen turned on again
here it is now, charging
One thing i noticed though, the screen would corrupt and lock up (sometimes) when I rotate screen to landscape
PS. damn this HTC One ultrapixel camera sucks

[Q] Crack in screen of the HTC one

Without dropping my phone, a crack appeared horizontally over my screen. I am using a Omuvit case and a screenprotector to prevent this kind a damage, but apparantly this is not enough.
I returned it to the store, but after 3 weeks they called me and said they weren't going to repair my phone in warrenty (they wanted me to pay 240 euros). They said that a crack in the screen is ALWAYS a users foult. They didn't even take off the screen protector to check the crack.
Needless to say, I'm very pissed off with the service of HTC and mediamarkt. Anyone got any tips on how I can get my screen repaired without paying the rediculous amount of money HTC is asking?

Unfortunately unlike the S4 the HTC One is extremely difficult to repair yourself. If you want to follow a guide I found this one here: http://www.etradesupply.com/blog/how-to-repair-cracked-htc-one-screen/ but if you don't have tons of patience I wouldn't even bother. Did you try to get HTC to repair it directly or go through a 3rd party?

I returned my phone where I bought it (Mediamarkt). They send it to one of their service centers (Teleplan Belgie), which is a 3rd party. But I called the HTC infoline, and they had the same message (the phone will not be repaired by warrenty if there is a crack in the screen)

I think that's pretty standard. Maybe a cell phone repair shop? It'll still cost, but I doubt it's nearly expensive.

I also talked to a guy from a phone repair shop, but they also asked 200 euros for the repair... Apparently the screen of the HTC one is very expensive.

[Q] Touch Screen Problem

I just bought a brand new Cubot One and it looks more than perfect! It has just a little problem with the touch screen ( I think its the software, need ROM change). There is a dead line on the right side of the screen that touch doesn't work at all. Any solutions? Anyone faced that before? Can I fix it myself or do I have to send it back for replacement? Is there any video or guide that shows its done?
I uploaded a video on YouTube to show the problem but i cant post it yet.. (new member)
You can write "Cubot One touch screen problem" and it's the 1st one.
Thank You!
I would just exchange with warranty. Why bother opening it up an voiding it and possibly worsening the problem and ending up with no warranty and a broken device.

If its brand new, take it back. I had no idea there was a knock off htc one. I would get a refund and save up for a real one.

Change ROM in android means change OS... but thanks anyway.
@George.Mts
I thought cubot was a typo lol. Didn't realise you bought a knock off. Yes I know what changing a Rom means but was referring to your comment on sending it back for replacement. But if you are risky enough to buy a knockoff then you aren't going to get help in these forums. You get what you pay for. This is a very device specific forum anyways so unless you have an actual verizon HTC one I'm not sure why you are even posting here.
