Stuck pixel, any experience with OP customer support? - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

Just noticed a stuck pixel on my new OP3. Unfortunately their website says they can send a replacement only if the dead pixel is greater than 0.5mm or if there are more than 3 dead pixels. I'm currently trying to fix it with various apps but I've heard the success rate isn't great.
Does anyone have any experience with OP customer support?

The only experience I have is when I sent a ticket about a broken wall connector thing for my dash charger. They were very nice about the whole thing and are replacing it very soon. Everything was great and I can provide screenshots.

Sorry to hear it. But from my knowledge one dead pixel is not a defective screen.and they wont take it to fix. So you'll have to live with it or to buy a new lcd. Every manufacture has its own "dead" pixel policy and ALL of them cover only if you have >+1 dead pixel. Example laptop have only 1month dead pixel warranty if you buy that kind of warranty. After that laptop has to have more than 5 dead pixel to be considered defective ...

Return it back to the vendor you got it from, what country are you in? As mentioned earlier here in the UK we get 28 days from the retailer so we can get a replacement unit if a fault occurs.

That would annoy the hell out of me, a touchscreen display with a dead pixel, i'd send it back myself too and for £500 a pop they're not what you would call cheap.
Just tell them you've got unusual battery drain and reboots and theres a dead pixel and it won't charge, send it back and you'll get your new one. Or worst case scenario, they'll change the battery the motherboard and send you back the one with the dead pixel.
But they won't

Call HTC Customer care, Force the executive on the phone to get you to the MANAGER or higher level authority.... talk to him and tell him that you would file a complaint blah blah or ask him if this is the level of HTC for dealing with its customers?
One of the person from XDA would stand up and do a comment on it, but believe me, in India, i got a OUT OF WARRANTY HTC SENSATION replaced, just beacuse the voice was not clear to me....so yours is a VISIBLE defect to the naked eye, so just fight for it...
GOOD LUCK....

Would you RMA this?

I've noticed that my OP3's display isn't uniform when displaying gray backgrounds (Chrome, no tabs and Spotify) and on the quick settings menu:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/picture.php?albumid=13423&pictureid=53599
http://forum.xda-developers.com/picture.php?albumid=13423&pictureid=53600
Is this something worth returning?
If it is present with night mode off and at all brightness. i would RMA it. In fact I already have applied for replacement for similiar issue. Can you tell me the date of manufacture ? Just curious to understand if it was a bad batch or something like that.

Night mode does indeed make it worse. Regardless of brightness, it's always there. Just less noticeable with full brightness. I believe the date was June 21st. How about you?
RMA.
I had a similar issue, sent it back via RMA, got a new device after 8 days. All good now

So perfect uniformity on all brightness levels on gray screens (especially all tabs closed on Chrome)?
Also, did you purchase directly from OP? If so, what option did you choose to get a new device?
Yes, perfect uniformity.
I purchased directly from OP. Clicked "Service Request" in my Oneplus account, chose "Replacement".

Thank you for the information. I think I will opt for a replacement and hope that my current device was just part of a bad batch - others, including yourself seem quite happy with their phone's display.
I have uniformity issues and they are extremely noticeable on grey colors. I read a few posts saying they had issues and the replacement was perfect so I issued an RMA myself. I made a reddit post to get some feedback on the quality of the display on my device.

That requires very little feedback other than that it looks terrible. I hope we receive one each of these illusive phones with no issues.

Oneplus RMA horror story

So, i had my Oneplus 3 not booting so i opened an RMA ticket 26 days ago. After dozens of emails they accepted to have my device repaired. DHL picked up my device and after 3 days it was with Arvato for repair. The motherboard was found faulty and so they performed an in-warranty motherboard replacement. What happened though after that? My device shipped from Greece for repair and Oneplus after repairing it, sent it to the Netherlands to an unknown person there. It's been 2 weeks now since the incident and the only answer i get from Oneplus is that the issue has been escalated and that someone is working on it. What can i do? any similar experiences? It really feels like nothing is done and that my device was lost in the Bermuda triangle with oneplus staying idle...

Tried that, with no success unfortunately... Definitely my last oneplus phone. I prefer to pay a bit more and get some proper service support in case something happens to a future device.
RIP @Konskl 's OnePlus3

This can littery happen with all devices bro. Motorola is not even reachable for support/replacement. Samsung is insanely expensive... If you are in the EU I would claim the rights you have.

yep the thing is that other brands like Samsung or Apple, wouldn't keep their customers without a device during that time. They would offer a replacement or something. Oneplus did nothing in that regards, they just stayed idle saying a colleague is working on this. What should a customer do when it comes to that? Buy a new device and incur new costs? That's not proper customer support.

When I sended back my old S3 they said that volume buttons do not fall under warranty, I had to pay €50 to get the phone back.. We all have had good and bad experiences with support from different brands. I don't think it actually matters if you have an. Samsung, Huawei or Oneplus device.
Samsung would leave you stranded, just saying
Good luck getting ur op back

[Q] ghost touch in two different devices z2 play XT1710-07

hello all xda members. i have just purchased moto z2 play from store, in the very same day it started the ghost touch problem. i thought it was the screen protector, removed and the problem continued. after that I realized the device was defective, went back to the store, requested an exchange (in here we have 7 days grace period for defects). when the next device came and I already knew better. I tried to leave the device in the the charger for one hour and tried to use it while the charger was connected and voila: the problem occurs again in the new device.
both devices were brand new, bought at a very well known and respected store franchise, i have been using this store many years already and usually no problems related with their electronics. so i can scrap a problem from their side. it is a factory problem.
i have uploaded a screen record video for this error: https://youtu.be/BkbwPksg1Vs
I have seen in the forums the same problem occurring in different devices either with IPS or AMOLED screens such as: sony Xperia Z2, sony Xperia XA, HTC One X, Moto G4 Plus (I had one and never had a problem!) Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and maybe more.
1-Other than a hardware problem, do you think this is a wide spread problem for android? any reports for iphone?
2-i will return the defective device, sure. i am thinking about exchange it for the Zenfone 3 Zoom, because it has same price and very similar characteristics. or should I try one more time the same device?
3-any other suggestions?
I have 5 days to make a decision.
Thank you all!
The first batch off the production line was probably bad. That's probably why Brazil was the first place to get the phone and why my phone was two weeks late to arrive.
If you don't use or plan on using Mods, buy a phone with a better camera.

Solved!
hello all,
my problem was related to a third-party charger from AUKEY model PA-T14 generating the error in all of its three USB outputs. Using original charger from Motorola, no problems after a week of testing. Thank you for the help.
best regards,

I'm planning to buy this.

Question Software needed to allow camera replacement

So, if you replace the camera with a new one, or even one from a working phone. I just did and I get an error message, and asks to force close or continue anyway. If you continue, it just crashes. Louis Rossman confirmed this is the case.
Can't any of you wizzards crack this with a root or something? Please, I have a cracked camera and screen. I fixit wants 270 for the screen AND another 280 for the camera. EVEN if you do them at the same time. Yes, I can change the screen myself and Google provided fingerprint calibration software. But I am SOL on the camera. Please help me...
My old Pixel 4 XL is now a brick because of this exact problem. Disgusting behaviour from Google. This is something I expect from Apple but clearly Google are no better at this point...
I broke the ribbon cable for the camera module and if I were to replace it the Face ID would be broken, which is very annoying considering the 4 XL has no fingerprint sensor and I rely on Face ID to unlock the phone.
Sorry I couldn't offer any help but I do hope Google either stops marrying components to the motherboard or AT LEAST release a tool for consumers and/or small repair shops.
AFAIK the only way for me to revive my 4 XL is to pay Google hundreds to do a small repair i'm completely capable of doing myself!!!

What is worse is if places sell the replacement. Places like Ifixit are reputable. They should not even sell it or have a note that it will not work unless you are an authorized repair center and have the pairing software, which you obviously are not as they have their own sources for parts.

Agreed. If this is now the norm then places like iFixit shoud definitely put up warnings for people trying to buy parts.
The funniest part about my 4 XL situation is:
I contacted Google yesterday, out of curiosity, to see how much they would charge to "repair" the camera module.
For context, i'm in the UK and I purchased the phone off eBay (UK Seller) in 2021, however, Google REFUSED to repair the phone because apparently 'the device was originally purchased in USA'. I spent hours talking to multple support reps about this to no avail.
My only option available is to fly to America and go to an authorized repair center to let them pair the stupid compenent to the motherboard. They told me to send it to a family or friend in the USA who could send the phone in for repair. It's a complete joke.
I believe there are third party tools out there to pair the components for iPhones, but i'm not aware of any such tool available for Pixel's (yet). Hopefully someone leaks the official tool or a third party tool is released...
Or ship it to someone state side and have them do it. Know anyone over here? Likely costs more than a new phone...
