Yep I have this issue as well.Wait,it isn't much of an issue, but seeing this thread made me realize that as well haha.I think that they'll place it under warranty or you'll have to pay for it if you don't have one since it is "replacing a certain part of a hardware" ~.~

Yeah I don't like these kind of buttons because they always have these kinds of problems.

I didn't even notice that the paint was coming off from mine until I saw this thread. I have to get just the right angle to see it, had the phone for a couple months now
Had mine for like 6 months no paint "issues." How paint rubbing off is an issue with a phone I don't know. I guess it could be the tiniest bit unsightly but come on its a phone man.

Mines fine too. Although I'm with the dude above me, I've had some pretty unsightly phones when it comes time to upgrade
Babied mine but I use it alot and paint is coming off of Back, Home, and Menu. Things would match a bit better if Search would join them!

Dammit! Because it's so hard to push them without touching the screen I use my thumbnail on the bottom edge whenever possible and, yes, eventually the search button showed wear too (mostly because I programmed it for an emulator function in SNES9x Ex). Anyway, I'm trying to get warranty coverage for my alarm issue and they are trying to warn me that I will be billed $300 because of the unavoidable button paint wear. I'm serious! If anything, I should claim warranty on the button paint flaking problem alone!
Then I mentioned the battery door developing a crack where I frequently pry it off to swap batteries (I have a second Sony-Ericsson battery and an external charger) because it's another warranty complaint I have and she started trying to refuse my warranty because of that right there too! The man in the AT&T store would have swapped it out right there except that they were "out of stock." Anyway, when she said that the replacement would have no battery or battery door, I told her that it was irrelevant because I would be keeping the cracked battery door but she clearly had already written a note in the file and refused to delete it. I've never had such a stubborn RMA experience.
Is there no such thing as a perfect HOX without issues on the screen when you apply pressure on the sides? Has anyone ever sent their phones for repair and had it back perfect?
Normally you won't notice this when operating the phone but say for example you're taking it out of the case or working out the gym and switching music you're definitely gonna apply more pressure and I can't help but feel that it's gonna break apart or cause permanent damage everytime it happens.
Yes happens to mine too, when I use my nail and press on the edge of the glass. It happens to my brothers One X too.
Mine is worse on the upper left side. So you' re just gonna live with the problem?
I don't have this.

but remember, this phone has a touchscreen, not a press-the-f**k-out-of-me-screen.

Completely derogatory reply, and unnecessary.
You're implying that every one who has this fault is squeezing the f**k out of the screen.
This is simply not true.
And lets be bloody honest here, what is the point of a touch screen device that if you put the slightest additional pressure on messes up the screen as though it's a bloody lcd monitor?
Seriously?
Am I supposed to put white gloves on when I use my HTC? Am I not supposed to put it in my pocket, just it case it gets' squeezed.
I'm on my SEVENTH f**king phone, and trust me, I don't have to squeeze the f**k out of it.
I've not come across ANY other phone that does this. ANY!
So STFU claiming you have to squeeze it hard. You don't. It's a f**king design flaw. And I'm sick the the bollocks in having to keep sending my units back. I don't want my TOUCH SCREEN phone to look like it's my f**king LCD Monitor when I'm using it.

No. I'm getting rid now. This is my seventh unit. Absolutely appalling design flaw.
This phone is supposed to last me 2 years. It doesn't feel like it's going to last me 2 minutes.
How do you think that screen is going to hold up after 8 months of being in a pocket.
After 12 months?
After 18 months?
Yellow splodges everywhere because the screen has flexed too much? Having to hold it like a newborn in case it gets damaged even more.
Bollocks to that.
This is my final return.
I'm going to have to go with the S3. I don't like it compared to the HOX, I don't like TouchWiz.
But I much prefer that, then having a messed up screen in 12 months time.
Dude, you need a chill pill.
And stop punching your phone.
Get an S3 if it'll make you feel better, but I can assure you that jabbing instead of touching will net you a similar outcome.

Bah! I got my phone without warranty so the most sensible thing for me to do is sell it now and get a new one hopefully without the issue. I've been asking some friends who have the phone and a lot of them don't have this problem. I really thought that everyone had this problem and just chose to live with it.
I have the same issue - but no problem with it.
At the beginning i had "ghost touches" but after i pressed the screen (left side) a little bit harder they're gone

Has anyone reported it getting worse? Im worried about permanent damage but if it just stays like this then ill save me all the trouble and just keep it
awesome how agressive oliseo is. seriously, the screen is capacitive, what means that you have to touch it, not to press it.
the one x is some milimeters slim and you get a hd display, a quadcore cpu (actually 5 cores but offtopic) and you are trying to tell me that that´s a serious issue that the screen shows ghost if pressed? so, i guess your tft / lcd monitor has this issue too, i´ve got seven tube-monitors before i got my tft and all the other monitors didn't showed that epic-design-failure.
dude. seriously.

i would bc of the dust!
I have a gap too on top between the glass and chrome bezel and also collecting dust after a few days. Seems they made the glass a little bit too small. If you're not happy return it.

That's probably gonna depend on the sales rep. Some will probably think you're too picky or they will understand and give you another. Also I assume they would lose sale on the other since it's been opened. But it's always worth a try. If you return it for a refund they would lose a sale as well. Good luck.

I had a problem with my mic on the first day I got it and they didn't give me any hassel. But I too am getting minor dust around the top near the reciever. My home button moves too but it's not too bad it does go a bit diagonal from time to time. Still love this phone though!

Gap around the glass has been mentioned on here before. Expansion and contraction prevents glass cracking according to another forum member. My home button is good. With all these manufacturers tolerances I'm hesitant to swap units as the next one may have another quirk that I won't be able to live with. Cue my old Galaxy S4. Verticle lines down screen noticeable on grey backgrounds in low light. Swapped that unit 2 times. 3rd unit was same. However wife's s4 was perfect.

So i went today and guess what... same thing gap on the side, button moving up and down they didn't want to give me another phone because they "didn't" have any more in stock which is a lie they had more they just lose sale if they open another phone, guess i have lots lots of bad luck...
Got a replacement yesterday and this one deosnt have a huge gap on top. Even all the way around.

Something that, as a phone tech, I feel the need to explain- it is NORMAL for buttons to wiggle. It is NOT a defect and NOT a reason to exchange the device. You are not going to find one that doesn't have at least some degree of movement, just due to the way these phones are constructed. The button itself is just a little piece of plastic & silicone that is aligned with the hole in the screen before the whole unit is assembled. It is not actually attached to anything, it is free-floating inbetween the digitizer and the board underneath. Even if you manage to get one that doesn't wiggle, it will eventually start to wiggle the more you use it as the materials relax.
I agree. But I think the problem is the hole is bigger than it should be so the buttons have a lot of room too move around compared to the s4. Thats just how it is on this phone. Take it or leave it. The glass is a different story as it can be off centered when put on.

On my tmo g4 I noticed when I was using my phone at night I could see light coming from both the right and left edges of the screen where it meets the body of the phone so I looked closer and the screen is actually coming out of the phone where the phone has a slight curve and I can literally push the screen down and see it move. I'm curious if I'm the only one or is this a common thing. I can't take any pictures because I don't have any other camera right now
Bump
The new update that tmobile pushed out should take care of the issues retracting the glue along with the screen by setting 10 second timer of an overclock to heat the phone up just right to let the adhesive settling in... at the end the update should prompt when this technical procedure is acomplished after a quick reboot! ??

Is anyone experiencing a creaking noise when pressing the back of the phone with your fingers? It happens mostly at the bottom, but its not consistent, after I've made it creak, I won't be able to do it again until I've made another area of the phone creak first. It seems to be getting progressively worse. There doesn't seem to be any noticeable movement on the plastic.
Yes mine creaks all the time
Not mine

Yeah, after I put mine in a case and then removed it it has been a bit creaky whenever I touch it.
It always feels like the plastic is moving, but it never does, more that the glue is not holding on as tight as it did.
No idea, but until I see movement / separation, I feel right at home after the Nexus 5.

I had to go through the process, they send you a link that let's you order a new phone but doesn't actually charge any money to your card. I did it at midday and by 6pm it was dispatched by parcel force. If the original delivery was anything to go by, it will arrive tomorrow at midday. I'm in the UK by the way so I'm not sure if its any different in US or any other country.
During the process they sent me the documentation to print off for sending the defective device back, you can send it back in the same box that the replacement comes in which I will hopefully be doing tomorrow.

Okay this sounds super simple. I'm from the UK too and my original N5X came in less than 24 hours after dispatch so I imagine your replacement will too. I'll probably wait until Saturday before talking to support just to be safe.
Just wondering, what exactly did you tell the support in order for them to agree to replace it? I'm thinking i might mention the yellowish screen too. Only noticeable next to my original Nexus 5 but its definitely there.
Cheers!

I told them exactly what's happening, the case creaks badly when I press on it lightly. It's ridiculous but they have to run through the "troubleshooting" before they can progress the return which involves booting the phone in safe mode (I didn't know this existed; you when you go to power off the device, you hold the "power off" item in the menu that appears and allows you to reboot in safe mode) and then checking if the casing still creaks. I was like... Yeah, its a mechanical fault, of course it still makes a noise when I start it in safe mode. We had to repeat the same process after factory resetting the device. It's utter lunacy but it has to be done.
