i would bc of the dust!

I have a gap too on top between the glass and chrome bezel and also collecting dust after a few days. Seems they made the glass a little bit too small. If you're not happy return it.

That's probably gonna depend on the sales rep. Some will probably think you're too picky or they will understand and give you another. Also I assume they would lose sale on the other since it's been opened. But it's always worth a try. If you return it for a refund they would lose a sale as well. Good luck.

I had a problem with my mic on the first day I got it and they didn't give me any hassel. But I too am getting minor dust around the top near the reciever. My home button moves too but it's not too bad it does go a bit diagonal from time to time. Still love this phone though!

Gap around the glass has been mentioned on here before. Expansion and contraction prevents glass cracking according to another forum member. My home button is good. With all these manufacturers tolerances I'm hesitant to swap units as the next one may have another quirk that I won't be able to live with. Cue my old Galaxy S4. Verticle lines down screen noticeable on grey backgrounds in low light. Swapped that unit 2 times. 3rd unit was same. However wife's s4 was perfect.

So i went today and guess what... same thing gap on the side, button moving up and down they didn't want to give me another phone because they "didn't" have any more in stock which is a lie they had more they just lose sale if they open another phone, guess i have lots lots of bad luck...

Got a replacement yesterday and this one deosnt have a huge gap on top. Even all the way around.

Mine doesn't have to gap but I also noticed the button moving up and down on the right side
Sent from my SM-N900T

Something that, as a phone tech, I feel the need to explain- it is NORMAL for buttons to wiggle. It is NOT a defect and NOT a reason to exchange the device. You are not going to find one that doesn't have at least some degree of movement, just due to the way these phones are constructed. The button itself is just a little piece of plastic & silicone that is aligned with the hole in the screen before the whole unit is assembled. It is not actually attached to anything, it is free-floating inbetween the digitizer and the board underneath. Even if you manage to get one that doesn't wiggle, it will eventually start to wiggle the more you use it as the materials relax.

I agree. But I think the problem is the hole is bigger than it should be so the buttons have a lot of room too move around compared to the s4. Thats just how it is on this phone. Take it or leave it. The glass is a different story as it can be off centered when put on.

Screen gap

I read about screem gap but i was unsure what exactly was meant. I just took a closer look and found out that there is a tiny gap between my screen and phone on top in which dirt fills in and it pisses me off. I havent dropped my screen once and if i push the top left part of my phone i can hear a sort of "click".does that make my phone faulty? Im really annoyed vy the dirt that fills in... Apart from rhat phone has no problems.

send it back. that is what i am doing. left hand side of the phone between the screen and the plastic you can see dust getting inside there to. plus if you press the left hand side tad hard you can hear it creaking as well. i called HTC to see if they could replace it for me straight away without sending it for repairs..waiting for an outcome tomorrow...if they say no i will just send it for repairs and hope they find the problem and either fix it or replace it then...i know it will drag for a week but at least that way you know one way or the other it will get fixed...
i was going to say if it does not bug you then leave it..but you sound just like me that even though the phone works fine it will bug you cause you know it is there
should i go to my provider or directly cpntact htc? And just to understand it better. Gaps are not supposed to be there, am i right?

Dont replace it as you have no other problems. Go to HTC repair center and just fix it. If you replace there may be a chance of getting more faultier one.

It amazes me some of the reasons people will find to return an otherwise perfect handset. Considering the amount of serious problems floating about this phone, I don't think a creak or 1mm gap between the bezel and screen constitutes a return. Get over it and enjoy the phone.

Ive heard that the one x was made in 2 different countrys taiwan and china... china being the worst built ones buttt I must have a really faulty dhd. I've had it for 10 months now and my screen moves, doesn't fit right on the phone as there should be a lip round it but isn't my speaker isn't straight so is sloping. Looks like the cnc machine hasn't cut it right. Power button is really recessed too far in..... I think a little sqweek is nothing to really worry about if the screen falls out then ya I'd send it back.

TBH ive just checked mine and it does have a slight gap with lint building up already (bare in mind ive had this phone 2 days) Also have the yellow blotch on the screen AND a dead pixel. This is by far the best phone ive ever owned...But my word these little niggles are grating on my moobs! Ive never had to send a phone off to a repair centre before but im not really willing to put up with the problems the phone has (however ridiculously small they seem to some ) You expect some software issues in an early batch, but dead pixels, discoloured screens, gaps occuring out of nowhere between the screen, its a bit much really! Im gunna have to get it sent off soon i think, gutted!

Do you even realize how big 1mm is?!!!! Get a ruler and see please....
I doubt even a blind person could enjoy a phone with a gap big as that. You would not just see this, but also feel.
I have a gap that's about 0,1-2 mm big (measuring with paper, which is about that in average I think 0,1 till 0,3 I think but also not sure) and its around the whole screen on both sides of the ring.
Ugh...1mm...
But seriously guys, how big are the gaps it makes you return it?
I mean should I return it with 0,1 mm ? (maybe less) seen a bigger gap on SGS 2.

Crack in sgs2 benzel !!

Guys
I observed that there is a crack in the benzel of my sgs2. Benzel i mean The plastic lining that wraps around the front glass.
The crack is near the volume buttons.
How easy it is to replace this plastic strip ? Is it risky ?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Pretty sure you mean bezel, not benzel.
You would probably have to replace the entire housing which is quite risky to do in my opinion. If you don't know what you are doing you could short the board or break something.
Happened to me too.
Is it really so bad that you need to replace it?
Happend to me too. Seems like that part is very fragile.
I think the only way you can replace it is replacing the whole screen and touch panel.
After that one little crack and that mysterious burn mark right next to it (damn alcohol ) i finally decided to buy a case

Its not so bad. But there is an another minor crack on the exactly other side of the benzel where power button is present !
Is it because of overheat ? I use my phone while charging and battery temps are at 46 celcius when I do that.
I never dropped my phone.
If I go for a new benzel then will I have to pay for new screen too ? Is the benzel glued to the screen ?

You can probably have it replaced at an official Samsung repair center. I'm pretty sure they carry one or two sets -- or can order one for you -- but it'll probably set you back a little.

I am not sure about this. But looking at the screen replacement tutorial (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1253969) it seems like screen+touchpanel+bezel is a single part. I guess it is somehow glued together. But again, that is just a guess.
just put a little glue in the crack
went to samsung service center.
They said they will replace the Glass panel, Pled screen and benzel.
Oh what the hell, I'll get a new Oled screen. Will go for SGS4 directly

yeah I noticed a crack on my bezel above the volume button. You can kind of see it on the enclosed picture.
I've got a crack in almost exactly the same place as the above pic, slightly closer to the top of the volume button.
Mine has been in an official flip case since day one and has never been dropped. I only noticed the crack when I looked after reading this thread (just like the plastic cover over the home button thread!).
I wouldn't have noticed the crack because of the case. So, is this a design fault? Is it heat or flex that is causing the crack?
The benzel is the most fragile part I think.
I must be because of heat. As the processor, gpu and antenna are near camera module. The top portion gets a lot hotter when accessing 3G.
On top of that if any pressure you put on it going to worsen it. Putting it in a tight jeans and then when u try to remove it out of pocket, u tend to grab the benzel a lot.
All in all, I would go for a metal/polycorbonate benzel in my next phone. That disqualifies SGS3.
Obviously I dont want to pay a hell lot of amount just to get a thin plastic strip (benzel) to be replaced.
Just because samsung did stupid move to glue them together and chose a cheap plastic for benzel I now have to pay a lot.
Waiting for HTC One XL(unibody) with S4 chipset. At least it would come for 3 yrs rather than breaking within 11 Months.
End of rant. Sh**ty cheap plastic Samsung.

Had never noticed this until now. Fortunately mine is a black phone, so not as noticeable as the white.

Build quality issues....scratched bezel

So fresh out of the box, the bezel on my Note 2 is a bit scratched, like someone took a fine blade and scraped into the inside of the bezel in a few spots. You can see it to the right of the button and in the corner. Kind of annoying. Anyone else seeing anything like this?
Absolutely not to be honest. Sorry.

Oly XZ1. $200 on Amazon right now. I highly suggest picking one up. Those aren't even my best effort. I took some pics of surgeries today that put my Powershot S100 to shame. f/1.8-2.5 with a real nice sensor. If you don't care about movies on it, it's tough to go wrong.

You can run your finger along the inside edge of the bezel and feel the scrapes. It's nitpicky, I know. But for $300, I want a pristine device that'll sit in a case with a screen protector. Yeah, Imight get a ding down the road, but I want the new car smell for as long as I can. I reuploaded the pictures and circled the areas. There's about 3 or 4 areas like that on the phone.
Same on my phone.
I thought it was only me!
Same here. Maybe it was just a handling issue for some scattered ones. Just a bit bummed as my original was overnighted, but now I have to wait 3-4 days. I'm not using it since I don't have a case and don't want to take a chance on it getting damaged somehow to where they think I did something to the phone. So I'm back on the S3. And MyBackupPro worked well for just backing up all my apps, SMS and logs and just restoring onto the Note. So that's a little comforting moving forward.

I already have the return kit coming. Unfortunately, Sandy will probably cause it to be delayed.
Just got back from exchanging mine due to major imperfections in display and minor scratching on bezel.
On display the brushed grey color applied was not lined up thus making viewing area look crooked , Left side had 1/8 + inch / right side had less then 1/16 inch reveal.
Picture below is how its supposed to look which my 1st looked nothing like.
Also menu button light transparency was hindered creating jagged look due to brushed grey color not having clean lines < Very annoying to say the least , When soft key lights turned on it became my focus.
Basically the display was a mess not worthy of 225.00 contract buyout / 300.00 device cost so I had no choice but to attempt swap.
Bezel had minor nicks nothing major but could be seen.
Display units had same thing going on but not as bad so my chance of successful exchange were pretty slim but thanks to a very nice sprint store rep exchange was allowed.
She had not units in stock but let me know when they arrived one would be held for me.
An hour later I get the call swap took place and I'm now typing on perfection thanks to Sprint store rep Lisa.

Creaking phone?

So a few days ago I began to notice that the back of my phone is now creaking, I first heard it when i went to pick my phone up the other morning and it sounded like an old hardwood floor creaking sound, it's progressively gotten worse to where now when i hold my phone during a call if i shift my hand at all the person on the other line can hear it. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem. The creaking seems to be isolated to (if you're staring at the back of the phone) the left half of the phone just below the power button and stops creaking above the phone model number beneath the glass.

So this makes me curious as to what other defects its going to have, but I'm on to a different issue, phone dropped about 2" and the digitizer broke, so when my new screen comes in i will do a walk through tutorial on how to replace it... starting to wish i had gone with the GS3...

Hey, so I just noticed that if I flip the phone over and orient it so the camera is on top, then it will creak when I push on the left side. You can also see the casing move in slightly. It's almost as if it's broken somewhere but you can't see any crack.
I thought the people at Best Buy had said the back was glass but it's looking more like cheap plastic at this point. Is it different on AT&T maybe?

The replacement screen was $130 went with 2 day shipping (Digitizer/LCD Assembly). Just the digitizer was only $60 but it's a good thing I went with the whole assembly because when i was trying to pull the glass out of the housing some of the shards came off by themselves, and revealed that LG "fusing" the glass to the lcd is literally glue covering the entire LCD making it damn near impossible to just replace the digitizer and make it look nice.
Also a few warnings to those disassembling their phones:
1) The battery isnt solid, more like cased in an extreemly soft metal so it will dent if not carefully removed (it's glued into the housing)
2) The chrome edge dent's very easily, have a small ding where i got impatient, TAKE YOUR TIME!
3) When removing the back cover don't cross over the volume rocker, power button, or USB port with the spudger. for the top of the back removal gently push the back cover forward dont try to shove your spudger in their, it wont work lol.
I'm going to be doing a full disassembly guide that's a lot easier to follow than the "engrish" version korea put out for us english speaking techs when my new roll of 3m tape comes in. =P
This cracking is caused by a small piece of sticky under the back cover you can either remove the sticky or ad some more this would prevent the cracking...
I posted a service guide here on XDA search my name for it... It will show how you can remove the back cover... just when taking it off remember the back can crack easy and the plastic can ding or dent rather easy and make sure you don't mess up the power button or the volume buttons

Chassis Gaps

I may be over reacting, but I don't think so. Am I nuts for having my phone replaced for this? I went into the corporate store today, they only had 1 left and that one had a much smaller, but still there, gap in the lower corner. They said a shipment is coming tomorrow and they will look them over to find me a 'gapless' One.
Sad thing is that the fully functional store display unit was completely sealed all the way around.. hopefully it was just a bad batch of phones.
not nuts at all. I literally spent 10 minutes examining my phone when I first picked it up. we waited 5 months+ for this phone, we can get pissed over any defect that we want
I noticed this same thing before you posted. I noticed it Friday and immediately went looking. YouTube videos, pics, etc. Other carrier's one's all have the same problem.
Zero gap didn't apply to this particular piece. If you want an idea of just how cosmetic this is watch the ifixit teardown.

its not really a defect. it doesnt effect anything. 99% of consumers would never notice it. We here at xda just love to look for what we think are "defects"
Mine has it too. I just don't feel like going through the hassle of getting it replaced for a microscopic cosmetic issue. Meh.
Mine has a very minor gap in the top-left corner near the power button. I thoroughly examined this phone when I got it to make sure there weren't any defects, and I didn't even notice that gap. Hell, it may not have even been there 4 days ago. It doesn't bother me, though, assuming it doesn't get any bigger. Purely a minor cosmetic flaw, and not worth exchanging, especially since I'm unlocked.

I'm just worried that it will get bigger over time. If I end up getting one without gaps and then gaps show up later I'll just let it go as a design characteristic, but having just gotten this phone with a locked bootloader (thanks Verizon! :crying: ) I figured I would take advantage of an offered replacement.
I give up, looked at a total of 16 phones at 3 stores and they all had some sort of gap on the top.

That's crazy. I've inspected every millimeter of mine and have zero gap.
Anyway, if y'all are even a tiny bit handy, this is a fix that someone used and is satisfied with the results:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/ht...p-top-after-addition-some-white-silicone.html
Read the whole page of comments, he explains the method. GE white silicone, rub it in and wipe away excess, done. Silicone is very easy to work with.
If anyone tries it, take before and after pics and post them here if you can!

I'm gonna try it this weekend, you already have my before pic. This little gap is killing me and I don't know why. Lol

I noticed this on mine too.

Mine seems to have gaps between the chassis and the screen glass, if that makes sense. Anyone else?
I work at a vzw store and was checking out our demo unit which had a gap. Then I checked our stock of about 10 phones which also had gaps. Interestingly there really only seemed to be a gap at the top of the phones and not the bottom as much. Top center seemed to be the trend.
Could be a certain batch of phones?
I am in New York, my chassis doesn't have any gaps, not that I can see, and I'm OCD.
my power button although, does have some left over that white filler crap they use, I want to get a knife in there to fix it but from MY past experience, just leave it alone, haha

I don't think it would get bigger over time but what I would do, is get a picture of the issue, with a date from somewhere that they know it's not fake, this way, if it does get bigger, you can say it was an issue from the start and try to fight for a NEW phone and not a REFURB.
I'm very sorry you have to deal with this on such a great phone.
I do have a TINY TINY gap but nothing that is to the extent of yours, mine might let the size of a piece of small dog hair in but I don't even think it's that open.
Best of luck brother!
