No options button on verizon samsung note 2 - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

first, thanks to everyone on this forum. helped a lot in unlocking my device.
however there is no access to options. for example, at the Network/apn page, i cant add a new access point, another example is on the contacts page, i cant check contact options.
I have a bad "back" and "switch" so i downloaded button savior, works fine.
pressing either the home, back or the switch key doesnt help open the options menu.
this started after i installed zedi x20 custom rom. and i dont wish to revert back.
the device is a verizon samsung note 2 model number sgh T889 (model no changed after custom rom was installed)
also, after network unlocking, device doesn't work with a particular sim network (globacom), i.e network not registered, but works with others, any particular way around this?
finally, i am overwhelmed by all the various options regarding upgrading android firmware, since am scared of bricking, i wish to update to a higher android firmware. any suggestions for my note 2?
thank you.

Sprint /Verizon/USCC S3/S4/S5 Note 2/Note 3 to Page Plus / Selectel Flashing Real 3G

I want this to be a thread dedicated to help others to flash the mentioned devices to Page Plus / Selectel / Next-G / Service in REAL 3G....
I have been flashing phones for a several years now as a hobby and want to pass on some of my knowledge and advice to others making this transition.
A few things I want to do when time allows as I work a full time job and have a family.. (Not to mention my Flashing Phone Hobby)
1. Keep a list of PRL's that work with Page Plus with no roaming symbol...
2. Maintain a summary of how to get into Diag Mode on all phones and methods to get your SPC/MSL on Sprint Phones......
3. Post useful Apks,, 16 Digit Passwords, and other instructions on flashing the phones.......
4. Maintain a Current List of Page plus Sids for Flashing..........
5. Make this a thread that people can come to and discuss issues etc....
Now I am not good at writing Guides and truthfully at this time have no desire to do so, but I will however try my best to help you along the way when my time is available. So please I ask do not flood my Inbox with request for a guide etc. (Post here so others can contribute and everyone can learn together)
One thing I have learned over the years of flashing devices is its better to think it through and work by trial and error so you can truly learn the skill of performing successful flashes.
(Please everyone keep it civil and make this a community effort to help each and everyone)
Current Status is that I can pull Keys/Passwords on Verizon S3 / S4 / S5 / Note 2 and 3, Sprint S2 / S3 /S4/S5 / Note 2 and 3, US Cellular S2 / S3 / S4/ S5 and Note 2 and 3 phones, Plus several other Phones and get REAL 3G with no donor on Page Plus / Selectel / Next-G....
(Again let me stress, please do not flood me with request to show you how to do this, as currently I will not post this information, I have my reasons and I hope you can respect that and use this thread for the other benefits you can get from it)
** Note: I did not include Verizon Prepaid or Straight Talk in this due to my beliefs that the cloning of esns/meids to obtain service is not LEGAL **

What is a PRL and what it does:
PRL=(Preferred Roaming List)
The PRL is a list of information that resides in the memory of some kinds of digital phones. It lists the radio frequencies the phone can use in various geographic areas.
The part of the list for each area is ordered by the bands the phone should try to use first. Therefore it's a kind of priority list for which towers the phone should use.
The PRL helps determine which home-network towers to use, and also which towers belonging to other networks to use in roaming situations (areas where the home network
has no coverage.) When roaming, the PRL may instruct the phone to use the network with the best roaming rate for the carrier, rather than the one with the strongest signal at the moment.
Since a PRL tells the phone "where" to search for a signal, as carrier networks change over time, an updated PRL may be required for a phone to "see" all of the coverage that it should,
both with the home network and for roaming.

DO NOT DOWNLOAD THESE FILES AND ATTEMPT UNLESS YOU ARE 100% SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING
THIS WILL LOCK YOUR BOOTLOADER FOREVER NO GOING BACK TO PREVIOUS VERSIONS EVER
Let me stress that anytime you flash either with ODIN or normal methods you take the chance of BRICKING your device.
SO be sure you know what you are doing as I am not responsible for anything that may go wrong.....
These will wipe your devices and bring the phone back to like is what was brand new, and should not affect your flash, but then again do at your own risk.....

3.At this point please make sure that ONLY TWO OPTIONS TICKED are "Auto Reboot" and "F.Reset Time" (otherwise you could end up with a very expensive paperweight)
4. Select the PDA button in the Odin program: Direst it to the tar file that you are using to upgrade the one you downloaded for your device......
5. Plug your Phone into the computer, wait for the drivers to install and then wait for the ID:COM section to turn blue in ODIN.

Things Not To Do With A Flashed Phone
1. NO OTA Android Updates Period (You will break your flash)
2. No OTA Programming *228, *22890, *22800, *22801 or any other Variants
3. Some Rom's do not play well with Flashed Phones do your research before flashing.
4. Never do a RTN (Return to Network) Reset ##786# on a Flashed Device (Most definitely will break your flash)
5. Some Radios/Modems cause issues if you flash (If the phone is working leave it be)
6. Factory Reset ( I recommend not to do this also, some versions of Android phones it will break things period)
7. PRLS ..... aww my favorite, everyone thinks these are the answer to all their prayers
a. If the phone is working leave it be (my personal stance)
b. Some PRL's are not EVDO or have not been Modded and will break your 3G or throw the Roaming Symbol
c. I have posted many PRL's above that will work with 3G (Latest one I modded is 60007 for all carrier phones)
8. No Phone Number Change (You change your carrier assigned number, you must reflash)

Why Is My 3G Data Slow?
It's a complaint I hear everyday from people using flashed smartphones performed by them or another flashing provider...
Why are my speeds so slow and is it possible to improve the situation?
There are a variety of reasons why 3G data speeds may be less than stellar, and each one requires a different solution.
Before assuming there's a problem, though, make sure you understand the realistic capabilities of your service.
VERIZON/Page Plus/Selectel:
2G 1xRTT: 50-100kbps download and upload with bursts to 144 kbps
3G EVDO Rev-A: (shows up as "3G" on your phone): 600-1400kbps download with bursts to 3Mbps, 200-800kbps upload with bursts to 1.8Mbps
(Don't get to caught up in running speedtest as these can be very confusing and fool you at times into thinking you have a problem when actually
the way they test and the servers they use get congested also)
POTENTIAL PROBLEM #1: Weak signal
If you're too far away from the tower (or if there are a lot of obstructions/interference between you and the tower), your device won't be able
to pick up a strong signal and your performance will suffer.
Solution: Try other locations in your home or area you are in, some areas do not get great signal strength and this could be your issue.
POTENTIAL PROBLEM #2: Tower overcrowding (Network Congestion)
The bandwidth available from a cell tower is shared amongst all the users connecting to the tower. A cell tower can only provide so much bandwidth,
and the more users there are connecting to the tower, the slower everyone's speeds will be.
Is this YOUR problem? If you notice that your speeds tend to follow a pattern most days (for example, nice and fast late at night or early in the day but slower in the evening when everyone is home from work and school) and you've confirmed that the problem isn't signal-related (by testing your speeds at home and then again somewhere closer to the tower), you'll know your tower is simply being used by lots of other subscribers at the same time.
Solution: Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do about this (other than consider switching to a different provider who might have more capacity at their towers or isn't as oversold in your area).
POTENTIAL PROBLEM #3: Incorrectly Performed Flash
It's very common for flashed phones to have been done incorrectly.
Is this YOUR problem? This is very possibly the source of the problem if your flash was done incorrectly or you made changes to your setup recently.
Solution: You'll need to either troubleshoot the phone and or reflash the problem phone.
POTENTIAL PROBLEM #4: Tower issues
Providers periodically do maintenance or upgrade work on cell towers, which can disrupt service; other factors like severe weather occasionally damage cell towers and cause problems.
Is this YOUR problem? If your service suddenly degrades significantly and doesn't improve much during non-peak hours (which it would if the problem was overcrowding), and you've confirmed it's not a problem with your flash, the problem likely lies with the tower. The best way to confirm is to take your device several miles away where you'll be connecting to a different tower and test there — if everything works fine when connected to a different tower, you'll know something is amiss with your home tower.
Solution: Out of your control, bear with it until the provider finishes work and repairs.....
Potential Problem #5: Sprint and USSC Devices
I hate to say it but I have seen some Sprint/USSC phones have this issue, likely due to weaker radios and or hardware implemented in the device.
Is this YOUR problem? This is very possibly the source of the problem if your flash was done correctly and you verify that other devices on the network in the same location as yours get consistently better data speeds.
Solution: Verify flash is correct and that your connected at EVDO in settings and passwords have passed authentication. If so this most likely a Sprint/USSC device issue out of control by the user. Replace device with another Cellphone Carrier brand and most of the time problem will be solved. (I see this allot with some of the Samsung S3 Devices from Sprint/USSC, almost like certain lots had a weak radio for whatever reason)
In the end your speeds can be related to any or all of these issues, and a proper flash is key to performing at optimal speeds.
Sometimes as much as we hate to admit a professional flasher is needed to correct speed issues, you would not believe some of the poor flashes I see when I read preflashed phones everyday that so called professionals performed
Definitely keeping an eye on this thread! Thanks Viper for putting this together. As a current PP customer with a Sprint GS3, I'm interested in learning more.
I personally used DFS / QPST and a Fascinate to get mine working w/ 3G. A couple things I'd be interested in documenting / learning:
1) Updating the PRL on my GS3 (or other flashed Sprint phone). I currently have to activate my Fascinate, *22891, downloading PRL w/ DFS, loading it onto the GS3, then reactivating the GS3
2) The proper procedure to get AOSP roms to work 100% (MMS in particular) on flashed Sprint phones. I haven't tried yet, but I believe AOSP roms (vs TW) require some extra work to get full functionality.

2) The proper procedure to get AOSP roms to work 100% (MMS in particular) on flashed Sprint phones. I haven't tried yet, but I believe AOSP roms (vs TW) require some extra work to get full functionality.

Couple of comments on your questions..

I am not clear on why you would need to reactivate to update PRL, What PRL are you using now?

This one hopefully some others can chime in as I run TW Roms myself, but this is exactly the things I want this thread to answer for ones needing help.....

#1 - Right now I'm just using the Verizon PRL that was on my Fascinate when I got the 3G keys from it - 53022. To get rid of the roaming icon, I loaded eri.xml onto my phone and changed the carrier name to Page Plus (actually I'm not sure if this actually removed the roaming triangle, but I rarely see it anymore.)
I know there has been a VZW PRL update since then - It's something like 53078 or 53096 now. I'm in the Chicago area so the exact PRL number probably depends on that.
I'd like to update the PRL on my (sprint) GS3, however the only way I know how to do it is by reactivating the Fascinate on my account to get the newest PRL, then saving it w/ DFS, then loading it onto my GS3 using DFS (then of course reactivating the GS3).
I was under the impression that *22891 to update PRL doesn't work on flashed Sprint phones, unless I"m mistaken?

As for #2, I did ask xda member alphahere about getting MMS working on AOSP roms, as he had mentioned in one of the PagePlus threads that he had AOSP fully working on his Sprint GS3. He gave me the following advice (which I haven't tested yet):
/system/etc/apns-conf.xml changed to the following to fix MMS
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<apns version="7">
<apn carrier="Verizon"
mcc="310"
mnc="004"
apn="internet"
type="default,supl,mms"
mmsc="http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms"
/>
</apns>

I believe you can do the *22890 option 2 new PRL
the problem is that when it reboots it will have a roaming unless you go into dfs/cdma and change the Preffered Settings
Sys Pref=.HomePref Pref Mode= CDMA_HDR Pref Serv =.SystemB Band Pref= Auto Roam Pref= Auto Analog=Dis
Thats is what I do
A way to tell which US Cellular S3s are unable to have keys/pass pulled?
Hi @Viper32 -
I have two quick questions:
You had written
Current Status is that I can pull keys/pass on ... Some US Cellular S3

. I'm looking to buy an S3 and was wondering if there was a way for me to determine if I could use your technique(s) to pull the keys/pass from a phone. Is there anything particular I can look for?
Lastly, I am wanting to flash the phone to Straight Talk and not Page Plus - do you know if I'll be able to get 3G with ST as well?
I greatly appreciate you sharing your thoughts and time here @Viper32 - huge thanks!

That is correct dirkdigles
I also believe that if your in a 4g area that it you may get a message saying " I'm sorry but we unable to program your phone at this time " when you attempt
I am in a 3g area so that might make a difference as well; since it not looking for 9900000000's to program to 4g

Some US Cellular
Does anyone know what @Viper32 is referring to when he says that only "Some US Cellular" phones are able to have pulled keys/pass?
I only have one chance at buying a phone, if it ends up being a no-go I'm out the $$$ - is there a way to know if this process will work with a particular US Cellular phone?

Well I quote that because I have only come across 2 US Cellular S3 phones, one I was able to pull keys/pass the other I was not. I would not personally run away from it if its a great deal.

Samsung Galaxy Ace 2x flashed with CM11, no mobile internet (Public Mobile)

Hello to everyone! I have Samsung Ace 2x (GT-S7560M) with Public Mobile, Canada. After the phone become incredibly lagging, I have decided to flash it with custom ROM, which I successfully did following instructions on this forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...7#post50909757). I like my phone back again, the ROM is amazing.
BUT there are two huge issues - it is not connecting to Mobile Network and Bluetooth can not be enabled. (WiFi connects and working fine).
As I mentioned earlier I am with Public Mobile and able to make calls and recieve/send SMS messages with CM11. After every reboot there is message : "SIM card added. Restart your device to access the mobile network." , which can be easily bypassed by pressing right bottom button (not sure about the name, probably "Escape"). The phone indicates TELUS Network.
I read over the posts on this forum and tried to change settings in Prefered Network to GSM/CDMA auto(PRL). Also checked APN to Public Mobile (tried Telus as well) but no success in getting back 4g network.
Any suggestion? Really do not want to go back to official ROM

Unfortunately your issue with Bluetooth is super common with this phone and roms. In fact, as far as I'm aware there's not a single kitkat rom that doesn't disable Bluetooth. You might find a solution buried in one of the other threads pertaining to this phone, but I'm almost positive there's not a solution.
Just about every rom I've flashed for this phone gives me the sim card added message when I start it up, ignoring it is the best fix I've come across. Regarding your inability to connect to a network, it seems you've already tried everything I would have suggested. Which cm11 build did you flash, by the way?
If you can't get that sorted out you aren't stuck with going back to stock. There's also another cm11 build for the IIx/ Trend, as well as Omni 4.4.4, PAC 4.4.4, Beanatalk 4.4.3 and ALLEGEDLY SlimKat (I can't find the download link to save my life, but a few people have said someone ported slimrom to this phone).
Sorry I couldnt be of more help bru.
about my ROM
thank you for response, I am currently using CM11-20141114-UNOFFICIAL-kylessopen (240DPI) with gapps - kk -20140629-signed.
Hmm, the first time I flashed that same build I had quite a few issues and they rectified themselves when I flashed a different gapps. I think it was the January 2014 4.4.4 full package (when I've got some free time in an hour or so I'll let you know the exact one), which I found odd considering it was super out of date and yet cured what ailed me. Next time I flashed it the 20140629 package worked fine though, so who knows. You've tried redownloading that gapps package right? Sometimes an ever so slightly corrupted gapps zip can do this kind of stuff. Unfortunately I'm not super familiar with the ins and outs of this phone since its just to tide me over until I can afford to replace my Note 4 in earnest, so my ability to help here is mostly guesswork and drawing parallells. I hope you get this on the ropes dude. If you can't get it sussed out in the end I'd recommend going with Beanstalk. It doesn't have a working theme engine unfortunately and is ever so slightly more buggy (well, less buggy I. Your case I guess), but it's waaaaaaay more feature rich than either of the cm11 builds. If you value stability more than customization than Omnirom is your best bet. ALL of the roms for this phone are kinda glitchy, but I found Omnirom to be the least so.

[DEV HELP NEEDED] Stock based ROM, Mobile Network Not Available

Guys,
I'm trying to make a ROM for the Verizon Galaxy Note Edge from stock. Yes, I know this is the wrong forum BUT...there are only a few of us with the phone and there has been no developer interest which is completely understandable. NPJohnson was kind enough to do the work so that we could convert to the developer edition from the retail edition. This phone is very similar and so I'm hoping one of the devs here has ran into the problem and can point me in the right direction.
The problem: I've made a ROM based on the stock firmware and it boots (which is further than I thought I'd get) and gets working 4G. However, I can't get it to connect for calls or sms. It keeps showing "Searching for service" under Network in phone info. My phone number, MIN, PRL and IMEI are all present. I've tried removing the SIM card and reinserting it and still nothing. I can flash my original backup and it's fine again.
Why I think it can be fixed: Back when the Developer Edition was first released, one of the users put out a stock, rooted ROM, unfortunately, he is no longer active on XDA. Going back and following his posts I see that he ran into the same issue and then resolved it but there was nothing posted about how it was resolved.
If you can help, have suggestions, recommend other tools or forums, anything, it would be greatly appreciated.

N7105 GPS not fixing location - tried everything, please help! :)

Hi
XDA newbie, still learning where everything is! I posted this question in the general help thread but got no replies, then I found this section so please pardon the repost
I have a rooted Galaxy Note 2 N7105 (t0lte I think) running Samsung Stock software 4.4.2. I have previously installed various version of CyanogenMod and Ditto Note, and somewhere along the line have lost my GPS functionality! Running CWM recover, not sure what version off the top of my head. The exact issue is that when I turn GPS on, it shows the "searching" symbol endlessly and will not lock to any satellites.
I have tried reflashing the modem and every GPS fix app that I've seen suggested on forums, and it still will not lock my location by GPS. Power saving (wi-fi and mobile network) location still works.
From my research, I believe the NV Rebuild method (listed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2211690) is what I need to do in order to fix the problem. However when I access the hidden dialer menu and select NV Rebuild it tells me "Not Support in Custom Binary!" Other people have had this issue and posted asking for help in the thread, but nobody replied or helped them.
As I mentioned, I am running stock Samsung software, not a custom ROM. The phone is rooted, and I do have a few Xposed modules installed. I also used Triangle Away and my bootloader shows the device status as Samsung Official. It also showed Official in settings when I tried to run the NV Rebuild. As far as the information went, this should be all I needed to make NV Rebuild work, but it still gave the custom binary error.
Does anyone have any suggestions for how to get around this? Do I need to completely unroot my phone and reflash a vanilla copy of Samsung 4.4.2 before it will work, or is there a workaround to make the service menu read my phone as official and run the NV Rebuild?
Any thoughts or ideas would be HUGELY appreciated as this issue has been driving me mental! (Please let me know if you need further information and I will try to provide it ASAP)
Thanks in advance!

Cant choose Network after upgrading to MM

Hi,
I've upgraded my note 4 to MM using the "Bootloader unlock and safe upgrade to MM "post from the general section. Now I'm having the next problems:
1.-I'm using a GSM Sim Card and it works but when I try to change the network mode I only get LTE/CDMA and CDMA, if I select one of those the networks, it stops working, and to go back I have to do a Network Settings Reset.
2.-I cant use MMI codes from my operator, I think that this might be due to the first problem.
What can I do to fix this?

Is this the only solution? install another ROM?
Same problem on 5.1.1. Non VZ SIM, two phones (both VZ Note 4's) - the 'Global' network mode option disappears, as does the entire 'APN' button. Restoring to full 5.1.1 (non rooted, etc) resolves this. It appears that during the original setup wizard stage, something (Knox? License Agent? Dunno?) does something and then I can use my non-VZ SIM.
The same thing during a rooted/partial-system-5.1.1 (systemonlyN910V-5.1.1.tar) + factory reset, there is a 'Knox has stopped responding' and the SIM never seems to work, and the network mode options do not allow me to select Global, or input an APN (there is no APN button).
Same thing but *without* wiping "data" (ie, not selecting 'factory reset'), the SIM works, or rather I can select 'Global' as my network mode, and the APN options are available.
Unfortunately I also have to go thru the process of removing KingRoot and the other junk at this point.
My theory at this morning is that there is a setting on 'data' that Knox applies during the setup wizard(s) that affects how the network options work with a non-vz SIM.
I suspect that if you have a normal VZ SIM and go thru the root process above, you probably have limited (fixed) network options but they are the settings that work with vz.
Some or all of the above may be totally wrong - I'm learning daily and have lots of learning left to do.
