I've noticed that my Nexus 5X notification LED cannot produce some colors.
For example, it's impossible to get any shade of orange.
If I use a simple app to change the notification LED color (eg. LED Tester), and try color code #FF0100, the Nexus 5X barely lights up.
It should be displaying bright red.
If the color code is #FF0000, then the LED displays the expected bright red.
I've checked that the correct values made it to the kernel by checking /sys/class/leds/red,green,blue/brightness. So it's either a kernel or hardware issue.
Anyone having the same problem?
I originally had (and still have) problems with OmniROM 6.0.1 20160522.
I since tried stock MM, MTC19T: same problem.
Ugh, this phone is full of small annoyances: first the sensors being miscalibrated (this one was fixable with root), now this.
Pondering returning it at this point...
Pondering? Just return it and be gone.

The LEDs used can't show that color, it's normal behaviour.
Orange has too much green, white blue etc...
It's a hardware limitation.
Literally unusable.

What phone has an unlocked boot loader, good third party ROM support and doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

Maybe, but that doesn't explain why changing the green led intensity from 0 to 1 toggles the red led.

Maybe the way your app tries controlling the LED intensity screws up the colouring, since the N5x LED doesn't support that feature natively?
it's a well known bad limitation, that the led of nexus 5x can't show the all the RGB's colors..

I have got my nexus yesterday, but there are thing burned in the screen I think (I have a screen protector, but I don't think it is on that), are there ways to fix it? Or do I have to take it back to the store?
Thanks for your help,

Burn-in was a term for LCD screens, not AMOLED.Think of it as something called "reverse led fatigue"
Calling it a burn it is incorrect, but more widely known. Check this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27350974&postcount=4

So, can I fix this by putting my phone at full brightness on a white screen for a while?
If it is possible to fix it it would be awesome!

And what? A movie with white screen running the whole night? Will that fix it?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
You could plug your phone into the wall, make a white image, turn off nav bar(If on custom rom) and select keep phone awake in the dev section of settings.
Or you could go the movie route, but plug it in, so it won't run out of juice in 2 hour
So screen on on white screen will fix my problem? and can't cause other damage?

I hardly think anything can take damage from doing so. Just make sure the phone don't overheat but still doesn't get too cold.
Laying the phone near a window overnight can be very bad for it.

They should and they will, if all is like they want it. Just return the phone to stock in all aspects. I don't think it matters if it's yakju/takju/yakjusc etc.
Over time burn in can happen. But if the phone is only one day old then maybe I'd return it? I hide top and bottom bar daily and browse the web to exercise all the pixels to avoid burn in.

Do consider that if you return your gnex for warranty purposes, you may get a refurb with horrible screen.

This is a factory defect. I just called Verizon and they replaced it. Should be here tomorrow, I had the same issue and tried all the remedies. It's just a defective panel to be honest. If you can get a new one, do it.

If it's just ghosting that can be temporary.
Hello, I recently found a small dead pixel after using the device lightly for a few days. I've tried to fix it with apps, cleanning caches, reformatting, and even installing roms, but the dead pixel is everywhere solid, even on bootloader screen.
The problem is that I need to send it as a gift next week, and the warranty would probably take 2 weeks or more, so is it worth it?
It's tiny, but it's there, and I don't know if one dead pixel, means more over time...
Please advise
None of those things will fix a bad pixel.
No you won't get more. And sometimes they 'fix' themselves with more use. You can use an app to flash the screen through different colors to 'exercise' it.
Is it an out and out dead pixel or a stuck (on one color) pixel? If you are not sure use a pixel tester from the store. Bad pixels are like light scratches, after a while you don't notice them. But for a gift I'd be disappointed as well.
If it's new can't you do a straight exchange?

Hey! Good news, you were right man. I was just about to send it, but decided to use it more and more heavily, and those "flashing colors" apps as well (don't know how much that helped), and eventually, it got smaller, and smaller to the point where I can barely see it so tiny.
It was tiny before, but now it's almost invisible. It started out as a stuck green pixel, and it was everywhere in the same place. Even in the bootloader, Recovery, and after various rom reflashes.
Thanks for the tips!
Hello,
I have in every app this bright bar at the top of my screen.
I have the H815 version.
It looks like backlight bleed but i am not sure.
You can see it the best in de notification dropdown.
Do you guys have it too?
Thanks,
First one did, more like the brightness inconsistency throughout the screen. I just received the replacement and much better now. I'd request for the replacement of I were you. They gave me a brand new phone since I was within the "return policy"

The top and the bottem of my screen are also brighter, just a slight bleed, but it doesnt bother me as long as it stays that way and doesnt get worse. Im pretty sure the only way it can be fixed is either by replacing the dispaly or getting a new phone.
Hello HTC fans,
I am gonna receive my HTC 10 tomorrow and I would like to immediately look for HW failures/defects, etc. to see if I have a faulty device.
My Question is., what should I check?
- dead pixels
- Speaker issues (I dont know what to check exactly)
- Microphone issues ( how to test?
- What else?
Can you please help me out?
Thanks in advance
Take it out of the box, put it on the charger. Make sure it charges to 100 percent, then use it.

That was quite obvious, I just thought there are "bad-batches" but if theres nothing like that (like it was with the m7 series) I am not worried
Get it out of the box, look if your display has a red tint, if it has a red tint install Dev Check and look which display is build in (Sharp or Tianma). If it is a Sharp display and hast red tint return it, if it's a Tianma display the red tint seems to go away after some days/weeks of usage.

Exactly no reason to worry about maybe having a bad unit before you even get it. Yes there will be a bad phone here and there. Be more excited you are getting a new phone!
The first thing to do is run the diagnostics. To do this, run the Help app. On the Help screen menu tap 'Troubleshooting' or 'Diagnostics tools' to use a troubleshooting wizard to check the basic hardware functions (alternatively, dial *#*#3424#*#*).
I found red tint on my phone at the bottom of my screen which didn't disappear after 3 weeks. In the end i got rid my phone as that tint was doing my head in.

Yes had that option but I chose not to replace it as I prefer bigger screen. I thought I could live with smaller screen but clearly not. If it was 5.5 then I would have stuck with it definitely.

Personally, I'd rather just return it and get a new one if it's within the first 30 days. Seems like more of a hassle to get repaired or possibly sent a refurb in exchange.
It happened some days back. I was using the phone and suddenly it turned off. It was not turning on afterwards.
I plugged in the device and it shows the RED indication light, but it is not turning on.
I tried the combinations for RECOVERY MODE and it is not working.
But today some combination worked and the HTC LOGO showed up and suddenly the screengot blacked out.
But, when i pressed the VOLUME DOWN + POWER the sound of SCREENSHOT NOTIFICATION is played.
Some combination made the FLASH LIGHT to glow.
Please help.
Most likely the battery is out of order.

Most probably your screen is damaged.
Same happened to me a year ago, I was playing music on my phone and suddenly the display went off..Tried restarting it a few times, still no use...Finally I took it to service center, they replaced it...Luckily I had warranty..!!

I do think that, most probably the screen is damaged. Every signs confirm it.
But, the thing is that the HTC logo appears during some combination of buttons and that too in good shape- In good colour and brightness.
By the way, my warranty period is over.
Did you dropped your phone on the floor?
If yes, it may cause some connections nodes in the device loosen. Search for some disassembly videos on Youtube so that you will know what is related and how to fix it.
