Sometimes the screen of my Galaxy Nexus freaks out; it behaves as if I'm touching the screen repeatedly while I'm not. It does not happen a lot, but I think it mostly occurs after pulling down the notification menu and touching a notification message there.
I have tried to reproduce this behavior (camera ready so I can video the screen of my GN), so far no luck. Anybody else experienced this?
Of course, as soon as I'm in bed and have put my camera away I experienced the issue again.
Will try again this evening.
That really sounds like a faulty screen I'm sorry to say. I had a similar issue with my HD2 two years ago, had to send it for replacement.
Hmmm I hope not. Since it's very hard to reproduce I doubt I can prove it in order to get a replacement.
It happens to me only when I'm charging the device. Do you use custom ROM? I'm suspecting that right now.
Nope, stock rom. I haven't even rooted it yet.
Finally caught it on video! It's not very focused but it clearly shows my problem.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5_tUcosrtQ&feature=youtu.be
I don't think its a hardware problem because I'm mostly experiencing this problem at home. Today at work I used the phone the whole day without encountering this behavior. I'm 15 minutes home and the problem pops up again. Difference? At home the phone is connected to my WiFi. Any thoughts?
Does it happen when you're not holding the phone? I've had anomalies happen before when the phone is on table and not in my hand before. Or could be faulty driver for touchscreen chip.

No, it does not happen spontaneously. I happens when I'm using the phone.
I've read some threads for other devices concerning exact the same issue. There were opinions that it could be due to the static charge that gathers on the sensor.
Possible solution could be:
1) discharge the phone
2) remove the battery and wait for about 10-12 hours.
Try it may be it ill help you.

The phone has a stock image. Also it's not rooted and I haven't touched the bootloader either.
hey guys,
so my friend got a One X, that's Dead...pretty cheap...and we're trying to revive it.
up till now, the phone only vibrates when pressing the power button, screen doesn't wake up. how to access the bootloader "if it's even accessible"?
any way to know if it's fixable?
Uhh, it doesn't sound too easily fixable. If the screen isn't even turning on, you're off to a bad start. Sounds like some kind of hardware fault, not something you'll be able to flash to fix.

okay, after tinkering with it, the screen has glitches and lights up then turns on.....what's the sign of this? i can't decide if it's hardware or software yet..
how to enter bootloader? sorry never used one x before.
okay so, i'll attach an photo of the screen. and a video of a similar issue.

if you look at the phone, it's very clean, i can tell it never had a smudge or any fall...also the screen is clean, no scratches. quite a catch! what could have made the flex cable go bad?!
in the boot animation the screen is quite good!
You say in the boot animation the screen is good, does it ever clear up entirely? You COULD get a display like that from software, but it's more than likely hardware. For example, running Gingerbread ROMs on the Infuse with Froyo bootloaders cause similar rainbow effects due to a change in coding, so you can POSSIBLY have a scrambled display without a hardware failure.
It may have just been a faulty phone and that's why it looks like it's in good shape. It's not necessarily something that someone broke. It could be a bad GPU chip, it could be a flex cable as mentioned, it could be a lot of things. If you (or rather your friend) got it for cheap, and you want to try opening it up to inspect the cables, you can find disassembly threads and videos to tell you how. You could be going on a wild goose chase though.

sometimes it boots up with that white messed up screen, sometimes it boots with the sense 4 lockscreen. lags a lot while trying to unlock the lockscreen, after that all hell breaks loose and screen becomes messed up pretty bad.
thanks for the tips man, i will try opening it up and having a look inside.
it could be a bad factory outlet as a friend suggested...

Well, hell, you can try reflashing the software if you can see enough in recovery mode (vol down and power at the same time). I can't see how it would hurt it any more. From the sound of it, you either have VERY messed up software, or more than likely, faulty hardware. Does it seem like the display works any better when it's been off for a while (cold)? If it gets worse the longer it's on, or if it had been on and you just rebooted, it would point more towards a faulty gpu chip to me and the heat causing the problem to come out.
Not sure about how warranties transfer or if they do at all (might depend country to country too), but you could see if it's still under warranty and can be sent in before you open it up.

What honestly it looks like to me is that they tried to flash a american version of a rom on to the phone so you have the improper bootloaders and such. hopefully this works for you.

I know I don't own an one x, but I do have a HTC Rezound, and I cracked the screen in it, and mine did the something while watching YouTube videos, but then it just went back to normal, this happened twice to me. I thought my screen was going out, but if yours is doing it and there's no physical damage, had to be something in the phone, or maybe software is that even possible? Lol.
Just thought I'd share what happened to me..

yes it could be a software issue. so your phone had that issue after changing your digitizer/screen? and then became normally by itself later on...?

I have got my nexus yesterday, but there are thing burned in the screen I think (I have a screen protector, but I don't think it is on that), are there ways to fix it? Or do I have to take it back to the store?

Burn-in was a term for LCD screens, not AMOLED.Think of it as something called "reverse led fatigue"
Calling it a burn it is incorrect, but more widely known. Check this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27350974&postcount=4

And what? A movie with white screen running the whole night? Will that fix it?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
You could plug your phone into the wall, make a white image, turn off nav bar(If on custom rom) and select keep phone awake in the dev section of settings.
Or you could go the movie route, but plug it in, so it won't run out of juice in 2 hour
So screen on on white screen will fix my problem? and can't cause other damage?

I hardly think anything can take damage from doing so. Just make sure the phone don't overheat but still doesn't get too cold.
Laying the phone near a window overnight can be very bad for it.

They should and they will, if all is like they want it. Just return the phone to stock in all aspects. I don't think it matters if it's yakju/takju/yakjusc etc.
Over time burn in can happen. But if the phone is only one day old then maybe I'd return it? I hide top and bottom bar daily and browse the web to exercise all the pixels to avoid burn in.

If it's just ghosting that can be temporary.
I recently bought a new note 2, and everything was good and I love it!
But yesterday I was on the phone to a friend and initially I tried putting him on speaker phone, but the screen wouldn't turn on, only the soft touch keys at the bottom lit up. I thought nothing of it and continued my phone call.
It wasn't until he hung up I noticed i still coudn't the damn thing on. So i removed the battery and re inserted it. Here's where things get interesting though, now whenever i try to power it up, i get a little red light in my proximity sensor (i think) that flashes for about half a second.
I've tried soft rest, which does the same thing ( makes the proximity sensor light up for half a second)
Hard reset which does the same thing.
I haven't rooted the phone or anything. Luckily its still under manufacture warranty and I'll get samsung to have a look at it, but any thoughts on what it could be?

Well, I can tell the that the red light is normal, I get that too and its just because its booting up, when you turn your phone on, what happens exactly?
Thanks for the reply. When I press the power button, around a second later the red light blips for half a second and turns off, but the OS doesn't boot up and nothing happens.

Maybe you too.... Sorry that sucks.
This PSA was sent Flow style from my Note 2 N-7100
Now i am really getting worriyng about this, does note2 has started SDS ?
atleast 3-4 cases are reported with same symptoms.
Anyway can you tell
You were on which ROM when this happened?
Are you getting to reboot in recovery/download mod?
@dingokevin I had a read over the thread you linked, and I fear the worst has happened to my note 2. This seems like a serious issue and even a flaw with the motherboard perhaps? Thank the lord it is still under warranty. R.I.P old friend.
@dr.ketan Im not sure what SDS stands for... Yeah I was running stock touchwiz 4.1.1 I think. No modifications and no root what so ever, and nope :/ I tried holding down volume down key + home button + power but no cigar, just the proximity light flashes briefly.
SDS - sudden death syndrome
And if you are unable to get into download/recovery mode then nothing can be done except send it to service station. it highly suggests sudden death which is very known issue for SGS3.
Replying to your query at other thread, you will get motherboard replacement if it is under warranty.
Ahh thats probably whats happened then. Thanks guys, I'll send it off to samsung and have a word or two with them to see why this is happening to many people!
If possible share outcome here too.

I was just reading up on some possible causes here on XDA with peoples S3's and someone suggested corrupted NAND memory.. I think this maybe the case because before the phone call I had installed Gangster Rio (which i honestly did purchase off the play store, hand on heart) and after playing it for a while decided to un install it and get a refund. Could me doing this have caused the NAND memory to corrupt? The game is a pretty large file...

Hi Guys,
Got up this morning having left my Note 2 turned on and on charge overnight to discover this same fault -
slow flashing Red light and phone totally dead.
Unable to do anything to rectify the situation.
Still under warranty of course, phone only released in October 2012.
Is this a fault with the phone which necessitates replacement or just a battery problem?
Would be grateful for any advice / guidance / help.
Thanks,
Mike Longley.

It seems also like SDS send it to Repair AFAIK is a chip problem, not battery so you can't do anything to repair it. If it is under warranty and with counter at 0 send it. They must repair it.

I can't think how to describe this, so haven't found another thread on here or on google, so have to post a picture.
It hasn't been dropped: When the Sleep Android app woke me up this morning I noticed that there was time-lag between my commands and the phone reacting. This was a bit annoying, but it seem to warm up and THEN it just FLIPPED RIGHT OUT. I have got it working again with a Soft Reset, but it's dodgy and keeps FLIPPING OUT every now and again.
Any idea what I can do?

Becouse I have the same problem this is BFD(Blck Screen of Dead) The only one solution is to repleace the mainboard. If you have warranty go back to stock and relock bootlader and hope they will repear for free or wait until go so bad and the display stop working and they can't see your status on the bootlader. My phone start slowly to die until one day totaly dead and I am happy because before the dead I go back to stock and relock and they changed the phone after one month in service center with new one. I hope you have warranty. Good luck my friend.

Okay, also it's still laggy. Was that a problem with you?
I replaced the screen already, last year so that shouldn't be a problem.
