In your opinion, how hard would it be to modify a case/back panel for the Glide, so that it has inductive charging support? I just saw a video online of someone internalizing an iPhone 4/4S charger, with only slight structural modifications (it had the appearance of no case on the outside), and was thinking that I might be able to do it to my Glide. At the moment, I am using a Body Glove case, made of rubber-coated plastic (the only one AT&T sells/sold for the Glide), and my best guess is that the case is about 3mm in thickness. I am looking for no actual phone modifications here (except for wiring the case to the battery, and maybe a modified back cover), so does anyone have any thoughts/ideas/suggestions?
Interesting. There is a company selling those inductive charging mats. I believe there is a connector that plugs to our phone (micro USB) to work with it. You could buy that and try to modify the phone back panel and a case to add the necessary hardware.

The companies name is Duracell powermatt.

I saw this, and figured that's what I was going to use. However, It looks as if the case for most phones adds quite a bit of thickness. I looked at another guide, which involved ripping up a Palm Pre back, soldering some things together, and using the Touchstone mat. As for whether or not that would work with a Powermat, I am not sure.

I've seen that guide, it was for the galaxy s3.
It looks like that phone has the two charging pins below the back cover; looking at the glide, I can't see them.
I fear we would need circuitry or at least more complicated wiring to make it work.
The one I saw was for the original Galaxy S. You may have seen a different one. The video I saw showed him wiring some things directly to the battery, if I remember correctly.
any progress
Hey there!
I found this thread as THE only one where someone imagining about the glide having the possibility to charge inductively.
any new info about it?
@a_p3rson: did you find a way to do it?
I would love to see it becoming true..
best regards

So far, the best chance I've seen was using the induction sticker on the back for the Palm (pre I believe), and wiring it to the USB port. I think that would work pretty well, though I am worried with how it would affect the normal function of the USB port. If anyone wants to try it (and share the results), by all means, please do so!
EDIT: It wouldn't be possible to wire the sticker directly to the battery, right? Of course, without causing overcharging/overheating/general harm/etc. to the battery or any part of it?
just throw it out there i have a extended battery from amazon it is about twice as thick as stock batter new back cover has large empty space between camera and batter pack i mean could put flash drive with room to spare in there would be easy to add some new hardware in there if need be for you power matt bought mine of amaxon for 11.00

I seem to remember the sticker on the Pre being really thin - like paper thin. Plus, I really am against cosmetic things like that (e.g. large back, extended battery), so an extended back shouldn't be needed.
However, I do know that the guide that I found (for the Galaxy S) said that it was possible by just wiring the sticker to the charging ports in the USB connector. The only worry I have is if the phone's USB communication would be affected at all.
If it is possible to just directly wire into the charging ports, there appears to be an easily removable panel directly above the microusb port that would presumably give access to it. I'm at work right now, so I can't exactly check, just puttin it out there.

Did you ever see if it was possible to hook the induction sticker to the USB port from here? I just looked at the panel, and it actually looks like there is a sticker that contains some wires going to the main board on that plate, makes me think that it could be an antenna of some sort, and that it might be kind of hard to deal with.
Hi I am planning on purchasing the Palm TouchStone wireless charging kit for my S3 i747m from eBay
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/281051460427...eName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
Does anyone who have the mod or an eBay kit tell me if the magnet attachment is on the TouchStone charger or is it on the Phone battery cover or both?
Also, how fast does it charge with the TouchStone?
Does it overheat after charging for a long time?
Does the TouchStone charger "turn off" or switch to "tinkle charging" after the phone is fully charged?
Any answers to my question would be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I would look for a touchstone forum or review site for answers, not here, bro. There is an accessories thread you could possibly get an answer in.
I had seen a YouTube video where someone did this to their s3! Check there!

I see, I will take a gamble and buy it... rated at ~500mAh with coil and charger directly aligned.
With my Otterbox Commuter case, I think the charging should not be affected too much (my guess is around 480mAh-490mAh)
This is because the Touchstone, like the Qi, is using EMR for coil and charger transmission/receiving. The only different is that Qi and Touchstone operate at different frequencies and the coil designs might be slightly different to have either slightly better range or better efficiency.
From my experience with Wacom tablets (Intuos, Bamboo) and Wacom integrated tablets (Galaxy Note 10.1, Note 1/2, Tablet PCs, Cintiqs etc)
The pen can hover even with an overlay sheet or a pane of glass over it.. The hovering range is around 5-7mm depending on how thick the surface cover is.
Hopefully the charger has a built in tinkle charging mode and a auto shut off mode (the phone power management should have this)
Also hopefully it does not overheat the phone when it is charging through my Otterbox Commuter case.
I didnt really like how the microusb fits into the port at an angle and was also interested in how the new nexus 7 has qi wireless charging capabilities so i looked into the technology and found that it can be added easily to the HDX without any modifications or warranty voids. I simply plugged the receiver into my HDX and taped it to the back of my tablet. Than i place my MoKo case back on my tablet and to my amazement it was able to charge through the case. It charges somewhat slower than my 2 amp charger directly connected, which is expected. I am more than happy with the results though. If anyone wants pictures just let me know!

Sound good... I'm curious though how far the USB sticks out from the side

its not even noticeable to me. if you dont use a case then this probably would be very noticeable. Theres no way i would pay $159 for this tablet and not put a screen protector and case on it straight out of box.

Do you do all your file transfers by wifi then?
usually yes. if the file isnt large i will use ES file explorer. if the file is large i can always unplug the qi charging receiver usb from the port and plug in the data usb. I do all my movie streaming via my NAS server/networked computers and BSplayer app. BSplayer plays any media file i throw at it rather local or networked.
So it's pretty thin, eh? Wonder if it affects the magnet-sticky Origami case? Hmmm... I need my USB port on my phone for my nav dock, but I *can* try the wireless for the Kindle...
It's a buck cheaper on Amazon with shipping, BTW.

I wanted to be sure it wasnt coming from china so I ordered from ebay.
But it Blocks the USB Port...???
Stupid question / comment deleted. Didn't see the pictures.
Thanks for doing the "research and testing" for us, jeffsrawr... I just jumped on the bandwagon to do the same to our brand new HDX 8.9... your pictures and links were VERY helpful!
Is there any bulge in the back of the case, I'm just wondering if its at all noticeable that the qi reciever is stuck on the back whilst it has the case on.

If it's the Origami case you wont' even notice as that has a hard rear shell.

its super thin... like a business card thickness. i sold off my hdx because i got tired of the amazon fire os menu crap on the side. im glad i sold it as now the root is broken with the automatic update. it will be a great device once the bootloader is cracked... thats if it ever is cracked. hdx was fastest tablet i have tried but nexus 7 just has better customization and and overall experience for me.
i just moved the qi charger pad over to the nexus 7 and it works great on it too. (its 2012 version without qi built in)

The kindle menu really annoyed me aswell, luckily there is a way to remove it. https://plus.google.com/106179306926528043289/posts/3HyS7rVWEp5
The app is called GMD autohide soft keys https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gmd.hidesoftkeys. Also there are various ways to block updates for kindle OS until the new ones are rooted.
Just some further info. I got an iBlason case for our HDX 8.9, and the wireless charger is just a tiny bit out of range to work with the thick-ish case. Too bad, as I can't charge through the case, but the wireless takes priority, so that's staying on. Our old tablet had many issues with the charge port, so keeping the port from getting worn is the bigger priority for me. Thanks again for the idea on getting this to work... I may have to do this with more devices in the future
Question for others who have done this - does your tablet make noises (squealing and clicking) when charging wirelessly like this? When the battery is low, it's louder, so I don't notice this very often, but I was just wondering. Maybe it has to do with the type of wireless charger or something?
I experienced no noises whatsoever.
What's the difference in charge speed compared to cable? About half? More than half?
Hi,
I'm having issues charging my HDX now and was wondering if you can provide pictures on how you are charging it wirelessly. Thank you.

Thread is 18 months old; doubt you will get a response from an OP. The HDX does not have an embedded Qi receiver. You'd need to use something like this which still utilizes the micro USB port. It that's your problem wireless charging won't help.
Yes, sorry for the lack of reply... didn't see this post. Like Davey126 said, you need a wireless charging receiver which connects to the USB port. If your existing port isn't working, then this probably won't work either.
I taped mine to the back of the tablet, similar to what is shown here: https://community.smartthings.com/t/faq-affordable-hardware-dashboard/36044 (second-to-last picture in the article). I did this proactively since I have had tablets before that broke the USB connection, so I did this from day-1 to ensure the port wouldn't wear-out with use... and it's been working great.
I don't have charge timing information, sorry... it's actually my wife's tablet, and she only charges it when needed and usually overnight. Honestly, due to the large battery in the HDX 8.9, it doesn't seem to need charging very often, which is great...
Hi everyone
I recently came across a post where a Z1C owner mentioned that to prevent the phone from losing its "water resistance", he bought the DK32 magnetic charging dock for his phone. That made me worried, will charging the phone using USB cable everyday make the phone less water resistance? What could possibly be his/her reason behind this? The only benefit I could think of the DK32 is to make charging the phone much easier and comfortable while able to rest the phone for watching movies and stuff..... So my question is, is there a durability/longevity difference between charging the phone using USB cable or magnetic dock?
Thanks everyone :good:

The manual says that. The protector of the USB connector, has some o-ring that make the phone waterproof. So, using it too much, will gone a damage the waterproof capabillies of the phone...
There is a cheaper charging cable which works very well so no need to spend extra bucks on the dock. I use it on my Z1c and it works very well.

Using USB cable everday means that you have to frequently open the USB Cover flap. If the seal ring of the USB cover flap worn, the water resistance will lose until you replace a new one.
I'm pretty sure that my USB charging port on my phone is loose because I use an extended battery, and it's not as tight as the stock battery. I'm on the ZeroLemon battery. There are two cases: the big one, and then there's a newer, slimmer one that I have. Same battery capacity. Over time, the charting port has just gotten more and more loose.
How can I fix this?

If its dislodged from the board your screwed. Would require a heating station to properly clean the board (tool the size of a large closet) and teeny tiny soldering equiptment (the kind they use.....well on this very high end and expensive. If its just the sealant you might be able to reapply a silicone based adhesive (lightly with like a brush the size women use on there eyelashes whoch would proabably work if it were cleaned id tape off the actual connection to prevent sealant from getting inside) id plgo so far as to clean the old adhessive from around the port but thats where id quit. If it was anything more id consider wether the port worked at all . If so id go no further out of fear of permanently destroying the only means id have of charging the device
