In last hour my phone has decided it doesn't know where it is.
Weather and maps don't find my current location. I didn't alter any settings and all are set up so my location can be found.
Other devices in the house detect location OK.
Any suggestions ?
Cheers
So this just happened suddenly; or is there anything that changed on the phone to possibly cause it?
You say "other devices in the house". Does this mean you are actually indoors when trying to get location? While the device can often get a GPS lock indoors (depending on the type of construction and other factors) its easiest outside, with a clear view of the sky.
Also, check what is selected in Location settings; or even try each of them to see if there is any change in the condition. "High accuracy" will (obviously) give you the fastest lock. On the other hand, "Battery saving" is WiFi only, and should give you a (rough) location even if a GPS lock is not possible, unless your WiFi network for some reason is not associated with a location. In contrast, if the mode is "Device only" (which is GPS only) and you can't get a GPS lock, its normal that the phone won't come up with a location.

Wipe all in TWRP including internal storage(backup your data/music/ etc first), flash rom via sideload or via usb otg or ext card. That's how i fixed my location not showing.

Did something similar. Used an ruu to go stock then back to custom, worked but don't know what problem was.

I experienced every since I soft reset the phone, it will take very long time to catch the satellite signal for the first time. I am using Garmin mobile xt.
I come across this from some where and installed this on SD card.
It actually accelerate the signal detection for the first time, takes less than 2 minute.

Please delete thread this if you find the information I share is violated to the copy right issues, as I cannot see any software details in it, thus I don't know if this is a freeware.
I will try this, does it come up on startup everytime? how much memory does it consume?
BTW - I didn't try it, but there is AGPS functionality in device which speed it up as well

A very small software that u don't need to install, just run it from SD card.
I guess so the data will retain after every soft reset. Caused I experienced it get faster signal every first Garmin activation.
Maybe anyone had tried can give feedback.
Can someone put the file here for download? I can't download from that site...
when I try to use the Enhanced GPS prgram, I enable 'XTRA' but it always comes up with 'Unable to access network, please try again'. I have my data set up correctly and no other data issues. Anyone have any ideas?

usualy this happens when you make a hard reset, go to the application and after the error perform a soft reset. after this it should be ok

i have a tp2 unlocked running athenos and the matched radio. i am running spbshell 3.5.4 and had bluetooth running until an issue cropped up with the 16gb kingston card meaning that data on it is often corrupted so i tomtom is currently uninstalled.
i had a radio app installed but to phone memory which stopped working inexplicably but it was after a hreset and reinstallation of everything that i noticed an error when trying to open the bluetooth from anywhere. com manager tells me "cant open bluetooth" nothing more. are ther any know issues with any apps and bluetooth or any thing else i should look at? i wish to use it to trasfer data and headset (when i get one) but i simply can even switch it on right now.
hmm. this is strange. I would try first doing a full format of the memory card using Command prompt instead of the Windows Shell formatter (it does make a difference sometimes). you can do that by Win+R "cmd" then
FORMAT :X /fs FAT32
It could take some time but its FULLY cleaning out the storage card. and for the actual bluetooth problem, you could just need a hard reset, or maybe try flashing a new radio to the phone.

Hey I have looked everywhere for a fix to this problem.
I rooted my desire a few weekends ago, with it now running Neophyte Froyo 2.2 ROM perfectly.
I connected the phone to PC afterwards and transferred some apps onto the sd card (as a disk drive) including a few songs as well.
Since yesterday however, whenever i plug my phone into PC, I am no longer able to access the SD card as a disk drive. The computer recognises the usb, however the phone no longer brings up the menu which asks what i want to eg. charge only, sync, disk drive etc. There is also no drop down menu from the top of the phone for me to change this. Going and manually changing the setting in the desire to "automatically mount as disk drive" has also not helped.
I thought my phone was USB bricked and went on to performing the fix for this. However, despite going through both the methods posted here as well as modaco (changing the CID), the problem persists.
I have accessed the phone using adb, and after typing adb devices, it registers the phone as connected with a serial number, so i dont think USB bricking is an issue here.
I can see a disk drive in computer whenever i plug the phone in, but if i double click on it, it states "Please insert disk drive into F". I have uninstalled the htc sync and drivers numerous times without improvement. I have also restarted my PC and my phone numerous times without improvement.
My phone still reads my SD card no problem. My SD card is also able to be accessed by my PC by taking it out of the phone and using a card reader.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
I have the same problem on my samsung vibrant phone.
Exactly the same problem here
my SD card is definitely fine, adb commands work.
neither double twist nor HTC sync recognise any phone connected. my computer sees it, but can't access it (same error message)
would love to sort this out too!
ROM: LeeDrOiD v2.3d
Radio: 32.54.00.32U_5.14.05.17
EDIT: found out it was my own fault. i use autostarts, and stopped 'PC synchronization' from automatically booting after startup. thought it would automatically start when connected to PC, but clearly not. once i undid this it connects to PC fine again, get the dropdown menu!
Sorry, how did you fix this - i am having this too...

He stopped the PC synchronization. Maybe you can stop it in the menu (Settings - Accounts & sync -> disable Background data and Auto-sync). I don't know if that works, but you can try it.
If you have got a Task Manager or something like that you could look for the task and kill it.
I'm not sure, but it should help.
Please post the result of your try.
Tried - no help. Couldn't find anything like "PC synchronisation"??
I ended up taking the battery out, jiggling the SD card and trying again - that seemed to fix it ?! weird...
great

you rock man, it works like a charm after it was a killer pain ... thanks a lot
I recently upgraded to a GB ROM. Now I can't figure out how to access the disk drive option. Need help. And yes I'm a noob.
If you connect to a pc, it should show up in your notification tool bar.
I am connected and the notification bar gives me the following option. Select to diable USB debugging....however I can't seem to get from here to disk drive option.
Try rebooting your phone, and if not, reflash the rom, and you should be all set.
There's an app in the market called "auto mount SD" or something similar. When you open the app you can choose to automatically mount as disk drive when connected to your computer. This was the only way I could get mine to mount at one time.
Widgetsoid 2.x also has a toggle for "mount usb". Occasionally I still don't get the option & hitting the toggle does the trick for me.
Thanks for the help. I ended up reflashing and that fixed the problem, however now I'm having problems with the phone hesitating to wake up.
If you've recently re-flashed, it make take a few times, as it still settling in. If you flashed a kernel to it, the kernel could be the cause.

Ah, the app you're talking about it dual mount sd. It also comes in handy cuz if you're listening to music, or have a lot of apps on your sdcard, they won't get disabled if you use it.
I did flash a kernel as well. Will that settle in or do I need to find a new kernel?

Well a kernel takes about 2~3 days to settle in, so you can make your final call then, but its its an sbc kernel, one of the side effects is that it can make your phoen laggy, cuz as the slight delay upon waking. Changing the kernel can fix that.
Thanks for the info...I'll give it another day or so. I'm not to keen on the lag on wake=-up so I'll be shopping for a new kernel if it keeps up.
No problem, and on CM7, I have no issues with the non-sbc version of the Tiamat kernel.
i have some trouble/problem to get the correct location on my phone
from one day to the next the location shows me over Wlan/umts only the country (germany) as location (current location) when i turn on the gps and download new agps data with gpsstatus (app) i got as current location "current location" not the name of the city where i am
the newest version of gmaps show my location in the USA not germany thats crazy too
please can somebody help me to get the location runs again?
Try to go to clear data for Google Services Framework, and then rebbot your phone.
i deleted the Data for Google Services Framework and reboot my phone -> still have the problem :crying:
Do you use some app for a-gps or you just have modded gps configuration file?
Here is the original gps.conf file, try to push it to system/etc folder using some root explorer.
i will try your file now.
i use only this apps which using gps (agps ?)
gmaps
navigon select
gpsstatus (http://www.androidpit.de/de/android/market/apps/app/com.eclipsim.gpstoolbox.pro/GPS-Status-key)
g+
htc weather widget
and a short test of smart navi (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ilm.sandwich&hl=de)
EDIT:
i have replace the gps.conf with yours and restart the phone -> problem is still their
i tried to clear the data from Google Services Framework too -> problem is still their
and i tried to delete all data/cache from weather (all weather apps/services i found) -> problem is still their
gpsstatus downloaded new agps data and wait for 7/7 satellites -> no location is set -> problem is still their
First check if the file I gave you have right permissions (have to be the same as all other files in folder). If that doesn't work my recommendatio is to make a backup of your data and do a fresh clean install of your rom.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Flashes and Thunders
I checked the rights/permissions all files have rw-r--r-- and so the gps.conf too.
ok reflash the rom is the last way (i think), when nobody else have an idea i will do that.
Thats a way to test an ics rom too before i reflash my actual rom
just an idea: could it help to reflash the radio rom?

I don't think so.
That happends when you wanna try ICS roms... :banghead:

I dont have test an ics rom before, but when i need to flash this rom again, so i can just flash an other rom before because of full wipe
I have already this problem.
No App gets an Location-Information.
Which Service or File is needed by them?
I will replace them by myself (overwrite)
It looks ugly on lockscreen and homescreen (current location, instead of the weather information an location name)
Any Developer who knows an answer??
I push the issue again.
Can anyone list what is required for location via wireless?
It had in the meantime work times, because of problems I had to import a backup which of 22 Sept. 2012 was.
I would be glad to get an assistance
