Problem with A-GPS & GPS Location since weeks - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i have some trouble/problem to get the correct location on my phone
from one day to the next the location shows me over Wlan/umts only the country (germany) as location (current location) when i turn on the gps and download new agps data with gpsstatus (app) i got as current location "current location" not the name of the city where i am
the newest version of gmaps show my location in the USA not germany thats crazy too
please can somebody help me to get the location runs again?

Try to go to clear data for Google Services Framework, and then rebbot your phone.

i deleted the Data for Google Services Framework and reboot my phone -> still have the problem :crying:

Do you use some app for a-gps or you just have modded gps configuration file?
Here is the original gps.conf file, try to push it to system/etc folder using some root explorer.

i will try your file now.
i use only this apps which using gps (agps ?)
gmaps
navigon select
gpsstatus (http://www.androidpit.de/de/android/market/apps/app/com.eclipsim.gpstoolbox.pro/GPS-Status-key)
g+
htc weather widget
and a short test of smart navi (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ilm.sandwich&hl=de)
EDIT:
i have replace the gps.conf with yours and restart the phone -> problem is still their
i tried to clear the data from Google Services Framework too -> problem is still their
and i tried to delete all data/cache from weather (all weather apps/services i found) -> problem is still their
gpsstatus downloaded new agps data and wait for 7/7 satellites -> no location is set -> problem is still their

First check if the file I gave you have right permissions (have to be the same as all other files in folder). If that doesn't work my recommendatio is to make a backup of your data and do a fresh clean install of your rom.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Flashes and Thunders

I checked the rights/permissions all files have rw-r--r-- and so the gps.conf too.
ok reflash the rom is the last way (i think), when nobody else have an idea i will do that.
Thats a way to test an ics rom too before i reflash my actual rom
just an idea: could it help to reflash the radio rom?

I dont have test an ics rom before, but when i need to flash this rom again, so i can just flash an other rom before because of full wipe

I have already this problem.
No App gets an Location-Information.
Which Service or File is needed by them?
I will replace them by myself (overwrite)
It looks ugly on lockscreen and homescreen (current location, instead of the weather information an location name)
Any Developer who knows an answer??

I push the issue again.
Can anyone list what is required for location via wireless?
It had in the meantime work times, because of problems I had to import a backup which of 22 Sept. 2012 was.
I would be glad to get an assistance

Q 2: My Premium Navigation doesn't work correctly. What should I do?
A: Your Premium Navigation may not work correctly for number of reasons. Most of them are not ROM related. You can try following things:
- reinstalling Locations under Settings ---> Locations
- removing from your SD card /sdcard/.data/navigator/Data/Temporary
- re-downloading maps
- clearing data from Google Maps
even im hving this problem
i tried those methods but none of them r working
wen i reinstall locations it comes downloading locations even after its finished downloading it stays there. i can see the download complete but its stuck there. the only option i hve is to cancel download....
wat do i do??
is there any other way i can reinstall locations??
same Map downloading issue
Hi!
got the same problem... every time i want to download maps, download stucks.
It was all running perfect and I just wanted to update my maps... after I tried a few times I finaly formated SD Card (data folder is gone!), flashed back to HTC Stock Rom and rooted again to put CM7 back on. So I made a big reset for nothing because I still wasn`t able to download one single map in Locations.
Whats going on with this SD-Card files? Why they are so special? There must be a way to install them again... any idea how?
Thanks for reading!

[Q] i have a problem with my market

so i changed my rom from sense to cayanogen mod 7.1.0
and i downloaded the gApps because its not coming with the rom automaticalyl
but after i downloaded it
i have a problem with the market.... its crashing all the time
if i go inside it it crashes after 10 seconds and i cant download anything or do anything.
i tried to flash the privious version of the gApps and its still happening
so what can i do?????
Hi,
try to delete data from the market app.
Go to settings, apps, all apps, market und clean data (don't know the exact names because I don't have an english version).
There you can delete the market and reinstall as a second solution.
Which market version is it?
Simple..You downloaded the wrong version of gapps. Get the correct one.
when i first installed the rom i installed the newest one i could fine which is:
gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip
but then i tried to install the version:
gapps-gb-20110729-signed.zip
but its also not working
any ideas??
clear market data (data and not only cache!) in settings/applications..if still not work, go in settings/language and keyboards and set english US or UK..try
Also answer my question.
What market version?
the version is 3.3.11
and i tried that thing with changing the language to us and i think its working
tho its now changed a couple of things
like the clock to am/pm instead of 24 hour clock
Set back to your language
Open terminal emulator
Type:
su
Chmod 777 /cache
Check market works

Please come back with more information than 'its broken' or no one will even bother to help you because we have nothing to work with.
It doesn't seem to connect to any GPS satellites. In Google maps my location is always inaccurate or says " your location with 2100 meters " any other apps that use GPS as well have issues. they say GPS is unavailable at this time or a similar error. Not sure what other information would be helpful.
Edit: all roms I've tried have been ICS

Presuming you're rooted and have not gone back to stock, find your country in the attached zip file and copy the gps.conf of your country to /system/etc using a root file browser or adb, and set permissions to rw-r--r--. You don't need to set permissions if you use adb, but don't forget to do it if you copy it via file browser on the phone.
Then install GPS Status & Toolbox if you don't have it already, and run it. Go to Settings>Tools>Manage A-GPS state>Reset>Download.
The modified gps.conf list for all countries is from BlackICE ROM, so credits to it's makers. The modified gps.conf contains local server addresses for your country, so the A-GPS data downloaded is more accurate than the default gps.conf which downloads it from a European/US server. That's the idea. I get a fix in seconds with the gps.conf for my country compared to without.
If this still doesn't work, then try updating your radio. What radio are you using right now?
If none of the above works, then it could very well be a hardware problem. The DHD is known to develop a hardware issue with GPS due to the GPS antenna (black patch around LED flash) losing contact with the motherboard over time, and there are threads & YouTube videos to go about fixing it.

Network Location

Not sure about anyone else on JB(TW in particular). Network location flat out sucks! Sometimes it will pull ur location without GPS sometimes it just hangs there. For things that depend on it (weather apps etc.) they don't update properly. I thought it was the apps at first but then discovered all the apps where hanging on Network Location updates. Anyhow I found a fix that was posted in one of the CM10 threads a few months back and it works! ROOT IS REQUIRED. All credit goes to J.Paul for the fix. Delete ur existing NetworkLoaction.apk via Titanium or app that can delete system apps then push the attached NetworkLocation.apk to /system/app then create a directory on your internal sd card /nogapps/ finally copy the cells.db file http://d-h.st/6OS to that created directory /sdcard/nogapps/cells.db then set permissions of NetworkLoaction.apk to rw-r-r reboot and done! Sounds like the nogapps thingy is for AOSP roms(havent tested) but won't harm anything on TW roms. YMMV and no guarantees this works for every rom AOSP or TW but it worked for me and I'm just reposting the steps I took. Good luck!

I would assume the non user interface apks such as network location were not modified in the majority of the JB TW roms unless the developer specifically stated they did or they were ported from another version. So assuming they are from the stock ota then this should work on them as well.

Experiences of ROM CM 10.1 from Kevinjoa

I'm using [rom][unofficial][4.2.2][cm10.1][02-12-13] by Kevinjoa since one week.
Thank You for your work, I appreciate your work very much. :good:
The ROM is very stable and battery life is rather good - at least 48 hours. Little use of wifi, some calls and messages. Use calender app (aCalender) very much.
Camera is working fine. It's a pity that the camcorder is not working, but that is in most custom ROMs - I should imagine that HTC would help CM-team for example with this, I think it's in their benefit.
I don't use BT. Every time I boot, I get the message: 'Google search stopped' (!?)
It's a long time ago I use an odexed ROM - (that was WildChild v2) but the ROM worked fine.
With ROM Toolbox I converted some apps into users apps: Files, Trebuchet (I prefere Holo Launcher and ES File Manager).
When I converted these apps they appeared to be gone - deleted.
This is how I Installed the ROM:
Boot in Recovery (CWM) --> wipe data factory reset (twice) --> wipe cache (twice) --> wipe dalvik cache (twice) --> flashed ROM --> boot --. only activate wifi --> boot in Recovery --> flashed int2ext+ (int2extV+ didn't work - it never worked on my phone ???) --> Mount and Storage --> format /sd-ext --> reboot --> reboot in Recovery and flashed Gapps --> reboot and set up my google account and enjoying.
Now I'm gone try [rom][unofficial][4.2.2][cm10.1][06-12-13] by Kevinjoa.
I'll report my experience within some days.
The version of 6th december is wonderful. Very stable. Battery after 2 days: 40% left.
The ROM is very smooth - maybe because of odexed version ? Again installed int2ext+
I like this ROM very much and am going to use it as my daily ROM.
I don't have much demands for my daily ROM: 1. stable 2. reasonable battery life 3. stable use of camera and gallery 4. I must be able of removing pre-installed apps 5. possibility of using int2ext+ 6. smooth
So goodby for now to my daily ROM: 'Jelly Style CM7' by Thehacka1 :good: - which I used for some months and which is till now by far the most stable ROM I've used.
I didn't notice much improvement with GPS, maybe a bit ?
No FC's till now. Still very stable, smooth and fast. :good:
BT I don't use.
My settings:
SmartassV2, minimum 200 MHz and max. 600. use only 2G-network, WiFi is most of the times off - I only turn it on when I need it.
I read you are taking a rest for now (or for ever) with your work on WFS ??? This I can imagine, you having another phone.
You are one of the last great devs from WFS.
Thanks very much for your beautiful ROM and effort.
I hope a lot of guys read this and gone use your ROM. :good:
camcorder FC and GPS-patch
I had to install this ROM again, alas
Camcorder gives FC.
I installed A-GPS patch from crypted: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1447593
Installing I used method 2:
1. Download the patch
2. Copy the two file(s)* into /etc/ of the system (not sd-card) using ES File Explorer, Root Explorer, or some other form. You must have SYSTEM set to Mounted and Root enabled. Check your explorer app's SETTINGS to do this.
3. Reboot the device
*Files are located in the /system/etc folder of the ZIP. Do not copy the other directories or folders.
*Files will be: gps.conf & SUPLROOTCERT.
I found the patch here:
derekgordon.com/gps-files/agps.patch.google.build.cwm.v3.1.zip
Now GPS works like a charm.

I've done the same but when I turn on GPS it quickly shows a location several kilometers away from my position and then it takes really long to find satellites. Ideas?

I had the same problem:
I installed the patch on my friends WFS. She uses a navigation program sometimes. (It takes a lot of the battery!)
When she opened the program, it showed a route that began at a place 100 km away !? But within a short time - a minute or two max - the program recalculated the route from the place where she was at that moment. Before she used the patch it took most of the time more then 5 minutes before the program 'knew' the place where she was at that moment.
And another thing. I sorted this out for her. When I was inside her room it happened every time: 1e: the navigation-program couldn't locate any GPS-satelites - one or two max, but when I went outside, the prog found within a minute enough satelites. 2e: the prog started every time at the same place 100 km away - even though she had never been there, but as I told just ago, within a short time the route was recalculated good.
So for her the patch is better then before she used it.
I hope this cleares out something.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Yes, that's my case too. It's better to have it, but even with the patch my WFS takes 15 minutes or so to lock position. Maybe further development can solve this issue, we'll have to wait!

No problem with camera.
The camcorder however gives FC and reboot - known problem, pity
Further on, the ROM is very stable with suitable battery-life.
