Hi,
I'm just curious if this is only my case or it happen to someone else.
In the headphone Jack it seem to be a little gap between the metal and the jack, and if u plug some headphones the jack can move a little like if its loose
Also sometimes it don't detect my iphone headphones(it have a mic), but a normal headphone always works.
Anyone have this issues too ?
Same thing here about the headphone jack, it moves as well and I can even push it in sometimes. What I don't know is if it is intended or not.
Your Apple headphones should work with sound, mic and basic control functions (skip, play, pause, answer call) The only thing that should not work is advanced control functions (decrease/increase volume). In your case there could be a problem with the headphones itself. Do they work flawlessly with other devices?

the headphones seems to be working fine, probably was some dust, its my first time I use some headphones in the Z5P since i bought it like 1 month ago.
Im still worried about the jack, hope its like that because of the waterproof protection. Its not like im going to use it underwater but dont want to get some issues because of that.
In my Z3 seems to be almost perfect, there is no gap, but it can move a little bit, never tried the z3 underwater so i dont know if it was properly sealed.
Hope more ppl could tell us if its normal.
It's the same on my Z5P too. There's a little gap between the jack-(hole) and frame which causes a very little movement of the jack- stick... Sorry for the weak English
Mine too!!! It just started. My apple headphones stopped working (first time i had problems with it) and it really moves, i got really worried and remembered this threads name( i had seen it before while browsing)
. Has anyone tried water test after this "problem" ??????? Well it should be working fine i think.. Well we will see tomorrow at morning shower lol. I really paniced cus i have unlocked bl so warranty is void
Think this is the case for all the Z5P devices. Mine does the same (wiggles around a little). Sometimes for whatever reason the headphone jack doesn't detect my headphones properly. Same thing happened with my Xperia ZR/A. I think the problem is that it's not detecting the proper pins on the 3.5mm headphone plug. Since the device can recognize 5 pins some things might be misaligned causing it to think that no headphone is plugged in. That's my best guess. I don't think there will be any water problems though. In fact, it's probably only this way because of the water proofing since they need to properly seal things on the inside while leaving the jack exposed.
Wow same for me, but my headphones works without any problems, so I think it's the same case for all Z5P maybe that is the reason why Sony say "Don't put the phone on water"

Same jack problem but my headphone( not apple's) is always working. As for water resistance, i have tested my z5p several times and nothing goes wrong.
Me too, but not after i discovered this problem. Thanks, it seems to be very common.. And i thought this maybe the reason why sony said that dont take your z5 premium or any underwater.. Yeah, im not gonna probably take it underwter never.. Only shower lol. But really creepy that its so movable

Hello Everybody
Iv been using the Sony Z5 Premium for about less than a year so far since its release to the world. Had this issue as well with the jack not reading any earphones plugged in it at times since the beginning even before and after using it under water. Had no problems so far despite falls, etc. But for now the jack is not reading any earphones, having hard time to make it work and in order for it to read it i need to move it a little. I fairly believe the reason is coz of the sealing process of the jacks on the phone since its water proof, if you notice there are black plastic parts inside the jacks and become movable as well which is why they interfere and make it hard for the USB plug earphone metal to touch the inner metal of the jack which then does not read the earphones, etc. If having such phones with water proof then better be careful and extra cautious when using plugs. And so far i have noticed its a common issue with the phone itself.
Problem is that im looking forward to finding a way to fix it although i dont want to open the phone (internal opening/maintenance) for if it is open then will not be water proof anymore.
If ever used in/under water make sure you dry it after by using a brush on the tight hard to reach areas, a med-cold air blower, etc on the jacks & stuff. Beware i do not suggest using the phone in sea since salts will dry and pain to clean afterwards. And one great thing about the phone is that it does not condense/fog in the inside unless if it does then you need to do maintenance to your phone for it is open, An example is just like a watch.
Hope this was helpful and my bad if this is long, since were all in the same club of Sony phone users lol.
Goodluck to Everyone & Hope we all get to fix it.

Hi Cevellio (and everybody else),
we discussed this problem in a thread in the general section.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z5-premium/general/z5-premium-audio-jack-failed-t3352062
If the jack moves it disconnects the flat cable, and the solution seems to be swapping the entire frame because (at least in my case) I replaced the jack socket with a new one but it's still moving and can't stay in place.
When you remove the jack socket you still have a "pipe" inside the hole in the frame that holds the socket in position, I think it's the broken piece.

Hi guys!
I searched around for this problem, but couldn't find a good answer. I am using my Desire HD with the Klipsch Image S4 IEMs (great headphones!) and recently I have this very annoying issue.
Most times when I plug the headphones in they get recognized as a headset (with microphone and buttons) and the slightest movement causes the music player to start playing or change or song, or what's even worse, the phone to redial the last call.
At first I thought the headphone jack had gone busted so I tried with my full sized Beyerdynamic DT770 PRO cans, but I get the same issue. When I use the stock headset that came with the HD however, there's no problem.
I think what's happening is that the 3 part plug (as opposed to the 4 part of the stock headset) doesn't always make good contact, or it touches the connector for the 4th part briefly at insertion, and it creates this problem.
Does anyone else have this issue? Is it possible that the plug on the phone is busted? I don't feel like sending the phone in over such small thing, but it is pretty annoying...
Thanks!
I have the same IEMs as you do, and I have not noticed that problem. I had similar issues with my Xperia, cleaning the 3.5 mm female connector helped for a while, but I eventually had to send my phone back to be repaired.

Seen the same thing when using my external speakers, something goes funny with the resistance or capacitance.
Difficult to test unless you sacrifice the cable
Try cover the 3rd and 4th section with nail polish or some other non-conductive stuff.
Ideas? Maybe lookup the schematics of the jack and confirm contact areas, then fix up as needed.

I can easily get a 3 and 4 section jacks and cables on the cheap for testing purposes. Do you have an idea of how to go about testing it in some systematic fashion? I wouldn't mind cutting the cable of the headphones and soldering my own jack at the end of it if I am sure that it will work reliably.

Try measure the lengths accurately from the headset included with the DHD.
There might just be some overlapping. If that is not the case, it might be a bit problematic.

There's no overlapping, but the tip of the S4s is a tiny bit shorter and a bit thinner at the base of the last, topmost, part. Weirdly enough I just cleaned the tip a bit and that seems to have solved the problem for the time being...
Maybe the dirt was leading to some resistance? Do you know how the buttons work?
I had a blue GS3 before and the headphones fit snug and now I have a new white one and if I turn the headphone jack slightly it cuts out completely on one ear and is very loose crackly also.....should I take it in the store for a replacement or what?
I'm having the same problem. Pissing me off. I'm noticing that it's with mostly with aux cables with 2 levels instead of 3 (don't notice with the OEM Samsung cables)
*although I have the white one*
tried different roms too, same problem.. didn't have this issue with me gs2
Im gonna take mine to the tmobile store and see what they say. Ill respawn later

had that problem with a 3.5mm audio jack that was attached to the car. keep the audio jack plugged into your phone, reboot with it still plugged in, and it should start to work. that is, unless the wire is bad, or the base is too big- causing it to not go in fully.
is your headphone jack a right angle? i had the same issue with my one x that i returned but getting a headphone jack to jack adapter so instead of having a right angle and going to a straight one fixed it. waiting on a new adapter so i can try the same fix on my s3 that has the same issue with my right angle headphone jack...
having the same issue with multiple aux cables. rebooting while plugged didn't help

Solution
Yep, That's the same here. Turns out that the jack is 'kinda cheapo' plastic that is, and if like me you use larger headphones (non-earbuds) that the side to side pull of the larger plug will eventually force a contact pin to no longer make that contact. You can pull and twist the cord and sound comes in and out on one side. in my case the right side.
Solution: I bought a replacement Speaker/Headphone assembly. Took me less then 5 minutes to disassemble the device and pop in the new OEM part. Problem solved. I got the part here ---> http://www.2buya.com/spare-parts/components/genuine-samsung-galaxy-s3-i9300-speaker-intenna-ear-jack-gh59-12159a.html
I chose this rather then wait for Mobilicity to take weeks to get it fixed for me.
Note: Ignore the i9300 part label. The stock part I removed from my t-999v also said i9300 on it. There the same.
Did you test the headphones on anything else? Try another set of headphones?
Of course

Naturally. I tested on two identical Sony studio monitors, and a few earbuds. The problem was 100% hardware.
Have you guys tried cleaning out the headphone jack? Last time I had issues I had a little bit of lint stuck at the bottom and couldn't insert the headphone jack all the way in. Give it a shot and shine a light in, hopefully the issue you guys are having will just be a little lint!
Hope So

That's a possibility, albeit a slim one. I used a jewelers loop in my case. Inside are multiple contact pins. Not all are used for sound. One of my pins was 'pushed' inward. That's why jiggling the plug causes a temporary solution. After I removed the original part I dissected it. The pins are set into the molded plastic as a single piece. The pins themselves are a single ribbon bent to flex a bit.
I figure in my case to much flexing of a the heavier plug with the weight of the coiled cord (Sony MDR-7505 Headphones) caused it to mash inward as I walked around. I'll never know for sure.
I hope it is just lint in the OP's case. If not at least parts are available. Non OEM parts are even less then what I paid. That or just wait for the repair done by Samsung.

Using the Galaxy Nexus and I had just purchased the Klipsch s4a earbuds (amazing purchase for anybody who's an audio lover without incredibly deep pockets) and the audio kept cutting unless I had the jack placed in a specific manner --which is impossible to keep in a jacket, so I came across this thread and wondered how the hell lint can get into such a small hole. I checked by digging a toothpick till the end and scraping out a massive chunk.
Earbuds work amazingly now.

I'm having the same problem, but for me it's worse when the headphones go too far down. In other words I intentionally put some tiny bits of paper into the hole and now it doesn't cut out as easily. But still if I move the plug too far to one side it'll cut off, which is really annoying when it's in my pocket and I occasionally bump the chord plug with my hand. I generally use iphone earbuds. I've read that the samsung jacks are a slightly different size than standard. This might contribute to the problem.

Where did you read that Samsung jacks are a different size? I have used several different 3rd party headphones and have not had a single issue. They all fit and work perfectly.
If anything is made with a different size, I'd be much quicker to suspect Apple before Samsung. They love building proprietary hw so people will be forced to do things their way!
Have you tried a different brand of headphones? It is possible the jack itself is messed up somehow too though.

Honestly I've only tried my old and new iphone earbuds. Both have the same problem, but what I discovered by shaving the plastic away from the tip of the jack is that the further in it goes the more it cuts off, hence shoving paper into the hole to keep it from going in too far.
Another thing I did notice is that this problem started when the headphones became much looser. When I first bought the SGS3 I had to really push hard to get the headphones into the phone. I could literally drop the phone from my pocket and it wouldn't detach and would just dangle from my ears. Now it comes out really easily. Clearly something isn't gripping well enough. That seems to be the real issue I guess, but I have no idea how to get in there and fix it. I don't want to risk breaking my phone trying to take it apart.
sounds like the inside of the jack is messed up. When you were having to push hard to put them in, it most likely bent or wore out the part it snaps into over time.
Only real solution to that, that I can think of, would be to replace the jack I'm afraid.

I didn't know this was that big of a problem.
I always thought it was useful so you can efficiently open your music right when you put in your headphones.
Try turning off the Context Buddy in the display settings and see if that does anything.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
Context buddy is already off. It's weird, see, the phone never gets interrupted music wise, but for whatever reason the phone detects it being unplugged and plugged back in (without disrupting audio)
I do have headset blocker but that doesn't effect it, so I'm hoping that someone knows any files I can edit to disable this function
Ok so this is cool, after taking a look at my phone, and messing with the headphone jack. My freakin headphone jack is ****ed up. Something is wrong and the pins aren't properly clicking onto the damn jack. What the hell. I never abused the headphone jack and just like that it's broken. This is BS
I guess I thought it was doing this for a while but that's only because I haven't listened to any music for a few days. I just had my headphones on today at work to muffle the factory noise and kept hearing my phone lock and unlock, but now it's for sure.
My phone has a damaged headphone jack! this is messed up. One of the reasons for wanting a samsung in the first place was hoping they had a better headphone jack setup than HTC does/did (which were physically cracking the headphone jack) and now it looks like my phone is messed up too.
This is ridiculous...
I'm going to see if maybe lint or some crud is stuck inside there...here's hoping that's all it is...
nope, it's the headphone jack. This is bs, I'm going to see if sprint will replace it under mechanical failure or something. The phone's only 3 months old and has been in a case its entire life, never dropped/abused or anything.

I've had this phone since the day it came out and never had a problem with the screen turning itself on while my headphones were in, which is saying a lot seeing as I use my headphones every single day on my 1 hour bus ride to work.
And also never had a problem with the headphone jack...

Yeah, that's what I'm planning on doing. It's messed up that a 3 month old phone wears out its headphone jack, where my 10 year old cd player still works perfectly fine.
there's no physical damage, it's just that the pins inside have worn out.
Do you think they'll care that my phone is rooted hah. I mean, this is 100% unrelated to being rooted ya know?
I tend to use my headphones 8 hours a day, 6 days a week on my phone. So i guess it was bound to happen. I just hope it never happens again.

I have a temporary fix. It seems that the headphone detection pin has worn out severely, so I looked around and found out soundabout (which i was already using to disable the speaker) has an option to force sound to the headphone without using headset detection. Works perfect.
I bought this phone used and didn't find out until later that the headphone jack plays distorted music.
Here's an example. Everything else with the phone is fine. In this video I taped the headphones to the mics on my laptop.
[edit] crap, i'm a noob and can't post my youtube vid. This is the title of it if you want to hear an example:
Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Distorted audio via headphone jack.
Here's what I've done so far to try and solve it.
1. tried 5 different sets of headphones.
2. made sure they were properly seated in the jack.
3. cleaned out the jack for possible debris.
4. disassembled phone and replaced jack with a new part.
5. disassembled phone and cleaned the motherboard and all connections with Electronic cleaner and a toothbrush.
6. Reset phone
7. tried several different music players.
8. turned off WiFi, BT, put phone in Airplane mode.
9. altered all the sound settings I could find, surround, balance, boost, etc.
The water mark on the battery shows it got wet.
The water mark on the frame and speaker is missing.
The water mark on the motherboard is dry.
Also, I've used the iPhone for the last 5 years, so Android is new to me. BTW, except for this, I love the phone. I have thought this was a hardware problem, but before I give up I'd like to make sure this is not a software issue.
I finally resorted to the Reset, and I'm dealing with that right now. I also ordered a BT adapter so I can re-route everything through that. So I can play music in my truck.
Any advice or idea of where to go now would be welcome.
Thanks,
Kevin
I think the water indicator is your best clue that it's a hardware issue. I dunno how to test to isolate the component so you can try to fix it yourself though.
Out of curiosity, did the seller dispose that it was water damaged?

No, he did not disclose that it was water damaged. He also said that the headphones worked perfectly the last time he used it.
I find it funny that one of the screws was missing and the watermark was missing. Obviously someone had been in there and tried to fix it?
It doesn't matter, because I bought the phone and he's not going to take it back. Caveat Emptor. I didn't buy it at Best Buy, I bought it from some dude on Craigslist. I just got a $23 iKross device that will do both music and phone via a bluetooth adapter. I'm going to give up fighting it.
I thought I was going to be in the clear swapping out the headphone jack for $9. It was kind of fun taking apart the phone and checking out all the parts of it. This was kind of a forbidden activity with my iPhones, so it was interesting.
Thanks for your help, and Happy 4th of July!

Wow, that is quite impressive work....You deserve to have it work after you did all that.
It does sound like a hardware issue, but just out of curiosity, have you tried a different ROM?
Also if you have att, you could possibly do an insurance claim if it comes down to it.
I have the same prob. I took it to the Samsung repair center the guy quickly opened it , cleaned the audio jack... dint work, replaced the audio jack.. didnt work...
He mentioned sometimes connecting the jack to some other output devices like some amplifier or some sound system may have damaged the component/IC/Diode/resister/or whatever is responsible as the place where im am.. they have poor electrical earthing as the electricity standards are very poor and may have short circuited / excess electric current reached the phone and spoilt it
The solution >> Get a new motherboard !!! according to the Samsung engineer..if anyone has found a solution please share ! apart from changing a costly motherboard !

lol how hard hahaha did u nod it??
Sent from my Samsung Note II N7105 LTE using Tapatalk 4
tighten all the screws!!
I had the same problem, i tried everything. Wiping, different rom, viper audio drivers...
Then i read in a comment on youtube to tighten the screws (especially the one between the camera en the led). Everything works now!
here another solution I found. I know this is a year old thread but it might help other people
I tried testing the earphone jack while the back housing is removed and while trying to figure out what causing it I found out that the ribbon is losing the connection to motherboard so I added another layer to the top of the ribbon connector to keep it in place and the sound distortion never happened again.

Thanks,
Kevin

I have same problem and i reset my phone and problem is finish thanks to tell:good:
Yeah me too. Thats what I do. So annoying
This started recently, only actually noticed it as my phone last night. I was watching a YouTube video and the audio just quit. I checked other audio and it wasn't working either. I smacked the back of my phone and it started working, like the jack was initialized while empty. I have been using a stereo on a moped with my phone in the seat, and it had been cutting out a lot, assuming from this issue and minor bouncing about in the seat. Given the way this phone is designed, j didn't think a little vibration and bouncing would hurt anything. Unless steam from having my phone in the shower (not directly in water, just in the shower) caused the damage. Also have YouTube pause framing while audio plays but I think that's software.
Mine is working fine, never had issues... and though I can't offer a fix... I can sadly assure you that repetitive vibrations to electronic devices can cause mechanical connection failures.
Watch a video of a tear down of an s7 (or really any other smart phone) and look at how small the tacks of solder are on the headphone jack to wire connection.
It is quite possible that the connection is starting to crack inside loose.
As a side note, when on a motorcycle or scooter it's better to have the phone held in a pocket or backpack then directly against the bike... there is a vibration absorption that happens through you from the bike... having it directly on the bike means the item is more directly vibrated continually.... and thus more likely to be damaged from vibrations.
Got the phone today and the jack doesnt work, unless i hold the plug in by hand.
Good thing i ran in to this thread or i wouldnt have checked it for a week.
Update:
Turns out that the jack is very stiff and i have to force the phone plug every single time in to the jack. It works fine, just very stiff.
