Unique problem. System settings wifi yes, selection no. Fire Tv 1 - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Here is the problem:
My wifi has not changed for months. It has been the same since before I updated to the latest custom firmware from September. If I go into the system settings and select "network" I get a list of available SSIDs. No problems there. However, when I attempt to select an alternate network the options go grey and nothing happens. My connected network stays. I didn't think anything of it since my network has always been fine. Tonight I wanted to switch to another ssid of mine so I hit the "menu" button on the remote to forget the network and reconnect to another. Now is the problem because I cannot select my own network or anyone else's. They are selectable but once the enter button is hit all options go grey. The back button is all that works at that point. Almost like a pop-up is supposed to be there but doesn't show up. If I cannot use wifi this thing is useless to me. I would love some ideas. I have searched for hours on a solution. I've wiped cache from recovery. I have not reset because I don't want to risk losing root.
Thank you for your help!

Lost 3g and data connection

I did something inadvertently and lost my 3g and data connections. As far as I can see, the settings are all right "Mobile network" is clicked under Wireless and Networks, the Mobile Icon is green -- but suddenly I lost 3g.
Could someone give me a checklist of things to do?
Desparately...
Joe
Have you maybe deleted your APN's?
menu>settings>wireless and networks>mobile networks>access point names. Also while in thre check network mode is set to gsm/wcdma auto.
the access point I have is Orange Internet -- with juicedefender-orangeinternet underneath. Should there be another one?
Joe
Turn aeroplane mode on and off, if that doesn't work turn off and remove battery. Sounds like you've got an issue that many had and that I use to have.Do a search for the work around, try data connection issues. It was a pain for many data would occasionally just stop working. The new update apparently fixes it.
I would also try things with juicedefender turned off to see if it is causing any problems.
Have you also checked your network mode isn't set to use 2g only?
tried airplane off and on -- no luck. Ditto with battery out and juice defender disabled.
How do I check if Network mode is set to 2G? And how do I get the new upgrade?
(Many thanks for your help, by the way.)
Joe
I've had exactly the same issue.
First thing I did was delete the APN for the faster TMob speeds and reverted to default. This immediately made it work for a few moments before all data connection was lost.
So I then after trying the various things (ie airplane mode - can't remember what else - maybe switching off juice defender?), I did a factory reset. This solved things - until I reinstalled JD, and then the problem rearose. I ahve since binned JD, and I don't have any issue - just a rapidly decreasing battery level...
I just did a hard reset to switch to gmail!
Is there some way to uninstall juice defender?
Also, I just noticed that when I turn my Desire on, I no longer get the choice to choose HTC Sense -- what could have caused that?
Joe
If you performed a hard reset, then this should have deleted Juice Defender and all your pre-installed apps.
To delete it manually, go to Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications and select Juice Defender from the list and choose the Uninstall option.
To check if you network is set to 2G, go to Menu > Settings > Wireless & Networks > Network Mode. If it shows GSM only selected, then it is set as 2G, set it to the GSM/WCDMA instead.
For Sense, go to Settings > Applications > Sense UI then clear defaults and force stop, then hit the home button and choose Home when given the option. You can then set it as default and turn it off or on.
Ta for that. 3g is still on, I've uninstalled Juice Defender and still no joy. (It had gone when I did the reset, but I installed it again. Didn't have any problem with it at first.) Strangely, I can't find Sense UI amongst the applications. Could the hard reset have deleted it?
Anyway, its beginning to look like another hard reset tonight, when I have access to wifi....
Joe
Apologies... it would show up as HTC Sense, not Sense UI
You can also try the HomeSwitcher app, to easily switch between launchers: http://www.androlib.com/android.application.ymst-android-homeswitcher-qEw.aspx
Hello,
i have the exact same trouble.... Lost of all data connexion! Wifi is working properly, but in 3G sometime i lose connexion and i m unable to connect back!
Only way to do it is to turn off the phone and turn it back in, and most of the time it works.
The thing i get since 2 days (since the update in fact) is that before i go to bed i surf a bit, its working, then i plug the phone and go to sleep... then on the morning, no more data connexion!
This is REALLY annoying, and i can't figure out why it is behaving like that.... i have APNdroid installed, but when i lost the connexion even if i try to enable/disable it, nothing to do....
Please help!!
Orange?
Any of you guys on Orange by any chance?
My work mate and I both have a desire and lose 3G when at work. We can call our handsets and they both go straight to vm. They also fail sms.
We can only reliably use the handsets on GSM.
When I go home I switch back to GSM/WCDMA auto and all is OK, except my buddy doesn't live far from work so is on the same cell.
We think it's an issue with an Orange 3G mast that serves our area.
Same thing happens with my N97 and I thought it was handset related.
Data Connection Problem
Hey People,
I have a similar problem with my Galaxy S2 too, on Resurrection remix 4.0.3. I have tried everything well almost everything I know about. I have also installed automatic net services from Orange romania. It didn't help too. I believe there are people who can help fix this problem and releases my pain.
Any helpwould be appreciated.
I had the same problem once. It was the EPST settings.
1. Who is your carrier?
2. What rom do you have? In order to edit the EPST settings you need to
a. Know what your doing
b. Have the ORIGINAL sense rom installed.
You will probably need to call your carrier and tell them your data is not working and you believe it to be the EPST settings. To get into these settings, (in the ORIGINAL sense rom) dail ##778#, click edit mode, then type in password (usually 000000), but it depends on ur carrier.
From there it depends on what your carrier needs the settings to be.
I messed with the APNs settings on my phone for weeks and nothing worked. Then i stumbled upon EPST settings and that fixed it. I had to contact someone in upper data communications in Bluegrass Cellular to get the correct settings. So good luck!

Not all towers support 3G or even internet. That could explain that but idk about the calling and sms.

WIFI not working

Hi,
I have ET4G with Sprint, stock ROM, not rooted. Several days ago my wifi stopped working. Turning it on either thru the settings menu or from the home screen will not show the wifi symbol. Tried to turn phone on/off and in plane mode several times but no luck. The checkmark does indicate that wifi is supposed to be on. Taking battery out did not help either.
BT/3G/4G seem OK. Interestingly, I ran GeeksSquad app, and it told me WIFI was OK, but I cannot connect to any network and cannot even see the wifi symbol displayed.
Any ideas? I would prefer not to reset the phone to factory setting if possible.
Thanks
Sincerely,
Mike
You could try going to settings - applications - all - scroll all the way down to wifi. Hit force stop and clear data. Then go to settings - wireless and networks - wifi settings and try to re pair with your router

AAAAHHH,
Thanks a million! That certainly did the trick. Working fine now. Still not sure what happened.

Any way of disabling only 2G from auto selecting?

When I leave my apartment until I disconnected from WiFi, I getting into the elevator and the data is searching for network and will not find any.after I get out of the elevator, it connects to 2G and stay there for long time.
If I switch WiFi off,, before I get into the elevator, it will connect directly to 4g and stay there(and this is how I like it).
But most of the time I forget switch off the WiFi, so I have to wait something like 10 minutes to get 4g connection.
Any way of disabling 2G, but leave 3G & 4G?

You could try dialing *#*#4636#*#* which will open the 'Testing' settings and then navigate to Phone information and scroll down until you find a little drop down box which you can select which network types you want to run. I myself use CDMA/EvDo/GSM/WCDMA/LTE Auto which switches between those when it needs to but if you only want to use 4G then you can switch to 'LTE only'.
Goodluck and I hope that does what you wanted!
Edit: I just realized that that number may not work on all phones, if that fails and you cannot access it with that then the only other method I can think of is to download Pimp My Rom from the Play Store and once installed open it and navigate to Tools < Scroll to the bottom & tap Device Hidden Menu > Access Hidden Menu. Please if you decide to wander around in this app then make a Nandroid backup first as this app is still in beta and very unstable, I recommend just using it for the device hidden menu options until you get what you need done.

I remember on my One X , this trick was working but after a reboot it was resetting to its previous state. No idea if this is still the case with M8

I had problems once with my phone only using 3G and using this to set it to allow 4G solved my problem permanently, hopefully it won't "reset" with yours, though I've never heard of that issue happening so it may be uncommon.

Crazy WIFI problem

Hi,
I recently bought a LG G4 Spirit. After first setup everything seems to work fine. During the initial setup i connected the phone to my WIFI. The connection works (for example gmail account login, web browser). However, after the first enthusiasm (lets say 2 hours without problems) the phone goes in standby (or better the screen goes off). After switching on the screen again my WIFI symbol is on with full signal strength but by that time i dont have internet access any more. Whatever i do, no internet access. Solution is to toggle WIFI off and on again. And voila, everything works until next standby.
What I did so far:
- tried dhcp and fix ip
- toggle WIFI always on (during standby) in extended settings dialog
As I had no idea any more i contacted LG. They adviced to do the following:
- remove battery while phone is running and replug
- do a factory reset
After that the LG support adviced to exchange the device as I bought it 1 week ago. Thats what i did. After setting up the brand new phone it shows the exact same behavior....
My first suspicion then was the access point, but my whole familiy (5 people with 1-3 devices each) does not have an issue with the access point....
I am completely out of any ideas what might happen.
Hope this does make sense to anyone in here.
Thanks
LL
Settings --> Wifi ---> Menu (3 dots in upper right corner) ---> Advanced Wi-Fi
Make sure that "Keep Wi-Fi on when screen is off" is set to "Yes".

Thanks for your answer. I dont have English as system language so I missed the correct wording of that option. But that is what i tried to describe with " toggle WIFI always on (during standby) in extended settings dialog " --> so i tried it...

Note 5 Wi-fi Rapidly Switching On And Off

Firmware: 6.0.1
Model: SM-N920A
UPDATE: Problem solved. Turns out it's an issue with the WIFI scanning in LOCATION, not in the wifi settings. While I still think this is an issue with the firmware, at least there's a way to get it to stop freaking out until they get it fixed.
Whenever I turn on the Wifi, it will often begin a cycle of rapidly turning off and back on again. If you watch the switch that indicates 'on' and 'off', it's constantly fluctuating between the two. -Immediately- after the switch shows it's turned on, the text just below the switch says "turning off.." and it turns off, immediately afterward turning back on, and the process repeats constantly until the phone dies.
Something is either forcing it to turn off, or forcing it to turn on. I've tried adjusting the settings for my third-party texting app (Textra), and even after disabling the entire app and using the stock one, the issue persisted.
I've tried restarting, I've tried clearing the cache via the bootloader.
I've exhausted the entire suite of options in settings for anything Wifi related, no configuration of settings has resolved the issue, including turning off wifi scanning.
I've tried entering the combination of "#", "*", and 0's and 1's (can't remember it off the top of my head) to access the wifi settings to turn off the power saving, but my phone under the listed model and firmware showed no such option.
The problem persists in any location, so I know it's not anything to do with the network I'm trying to connect to.
The only way I've gotten it to stop is going to the wifi settings menu, and rapidly tapping the switch while it constantly goes back and forth. I've managed to get it to stay in the "on" position, but that's the closest thing to a fix I've been able to find.
I've combed through many threads in the AT&T Note 5 troubleshooting topic, and can hardly find anything that describes this particular issue, only with wifi "not staying connected" or other obscure descriptions that upon further inspection were -not- the issue I'm having here.
Were it up to me I would root the thing and put stock Nougat on there and be done with it. But alas, AT&T has removed that option.
I am willing to do a factory reset, but I'd like to know if anyone else has had this issue and if there is any other way to solve it, so I can avoid it in the future.
Settings > wifi > more (top right corner) > advanced > always allow scanning - set to 'off'
Like I said, I've exhausted all possible options in the menus relating to wifi.
This is what I see when I go into the "Advanced" settings in Wifi.
Network Notification (on or off)
Hotspot 2.0 (on or off)
Keep wifi on during sleep (never)
Auto connect to AT&T wifi (on or off)
Install network certificates
MAC address
IP address
That's all there is. I just factory reset my phone, restored it, and the problem in the OP persists.
I rebooted it in safe mode, and the problem still persists. At this point, it looks like it's an issue with the individual handset, unless there's anything I've missed. This is beyond frustrating.
Sorry but can you explain to me how you stop this from happening?
Mine going crazy from time to time, drives me nuts, and i can't stop it.
Btw this doesn't exist on my AT&T Note 5 --> Settings > wifi > more (top right corner) > advanced > always allow scanning - set to 'off'
Kill AT&T Wifi Direct and AT&T Hot Spots.. Remove them as System Apps also.. You should get a message that it is replacing it with the stock version somewhere along this path then your wifi will work flawlessly again even with 5GHz, go figure I guess Google does a better job at WiFi.'
Edit: (sloppy instructions)
DEVICE|APPLICATION MANAGER
"MORE" top right corner
CHANGE SYSTEM SETTINGS
<disable AT&T smart WiFi and anything else that is AT&T or Samsung, including theme nonsense if you want)
Now remove it from Apps....
DEVICE|APPLICATION MANAGER
Force Stop AT&T Smart Wifi. Disable AT&T Smart WiFI.. (Select Storage in same screeen, restrict background data.. Remove permissions)
I realize some of my steps are redundant but AT&T will update stuff then turn those apps back on somehow.. But not if you gut it like I described above
