I did something inadvertently and lost my 3g and data connections. As far as I can see, the settings are all right "Mobile network" is clicked under Wireless and Networks, the Mobile Icon is green -- but suddenly I lost 3g.
Could someone give me a checklist of things to do?
Desparately...
Joe
Have you maybe deleted your APN's?
menu>settings>wireless and networks>mobile networks>access point names. Also while in thre check network mode is set to gsm/wcdma auto.
the access point I have is Orange Internet -- with juicedefender-orangeinternet underneath. Should there be another one?
Joe
Turn aeroplane mode on and off, if that doesn't work turn off and remove battery. Sounds like you've got an issue that many had and that I use to have.Do a search for the work around, try data connection issues. It was a pain for many data would occasionally just stop working. The new update apparently fixes it.
I would also try things with juicedefender turned off to see if it is causing any problems.
Have you also checked your network mode isn't set to use 2g only?
tried airplane off and on -- no luck. Ditto with battery out and juice defender disabled.
How do I check if Network mode is set to 2G? And how do I get the new upgrade?
(Many thanks for your help, by the way.)
Joe
I've had exactly the same issue.
First thing I did was delete the APN for the faster TMob speeds and reverted to default. This immediately made it work for a few moments before all data connection was lost.
So I then after trying the various things (ie airplane mode - can't remember what else - maybe switching off juice defender?), I did a factory reset. This solved things - until I reinstalled JD, and then the problem rearose. I ahve since binned JD, and I don't have any issue - just a rapidly decreasing battery level...
I just did a hard reset to switch to gmail!
Is there some way to uninstall juice defender?
Also, I just noticed that when I turn my Desire on, I no longer get the choice to choose HTC Sense -- what could have caused that?
Joe
If you performed a hard reset, then this should have deleted Juice Defender and all your pre-installed apps.
To delete it manually, go to Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications and select Juice Defender from the list and choose the Uninstall option.
To check if you network is set to 2G, go to Menu > Settings > Wireless & Networks > Network Mode. If it shows GSM only selected, then it is set as 2G, set it to the GSM/WCDMA instead.
For Sense, go to Settings > Applications > Sense UI then clear defaults and force stop, then hit the home button and choose Home when given the option. You can then set it as default and turn it off or on.
Ta for that. 3g is still on, I've uninstalled Juice Defender and still no joy. (It had gone when I did the reset, but I installed it again. Didn't have any problem with it at first.) Strangely, I can't find Sense UI amongst the applications. Could the hard reset have deleted it?
Anyway, its beginning to look like another hard reset tonight, when I have access to wifi....
Joe
Apologies... it would show up as HTC Sense, not Sense UI
You can also try the HomeSwitcher app, to easily switch between launchers: http://www.androlib.com/android.application.ymst-android-homeswitcher-qEw.aspx
Hello,
i have the exact same trouble.... Lost of all data connexion! Wifi is working properly, but in 3G sometime i lose connexion and i m unable to connect back!
Only way to do it is to turn off the phone and turn it back in, and most of the time it works.
The thing i get since 2 days (since the update in fact) is that before i go to bed i surf a bit, its working, then i plug the phone and go to sleep... then on the morning, no more data connexion!
This is REALLY annoying, and i can't figure out why it is behaving like that.... i have APNdroid installed, but when i lost the connexion even if i try to enable/disable it, nothing to do....
Please help!!
Orange?
Any of you guys on Orange by any chance?
My work mate and I both have a desire and lose 3G when at work. We can call our handsets and they both go straight to vm. They also fail sms.
We can only reliably use the handsets on GSM.
When I go home I switch back to GSM/WCDMA auto and all is OK, except my buddy doesn't live far from work so is on the same cell.
We think it's an issue with an Orange 3G mast that serves our area.
Same thing happens with my N97 and I thought it was handset related.
Data Connection Problem
Hey People,
I have a similar problem with my Galaxy S2 too, on Resurrection remix 4.0.3. I have tried everything well almost everything I know about. I have also installed automatic net services from Orange romania. It didn't help too. I believe there are people who can help fix this problem and releases my pain.
Any helpwould be appreciated.
I had the same problem once. It was the EPST settings.
1. Who is your carrier?
2. What rom do you have? In order to edit the EPST settings you need to
a. Know what your doing
b. Have the ORIGINAL sense rom installed.
You will probably need to call your carrier and tell them your data is not working and you believe it to be the EPST settings. To get into these settings, (in the ORIGINAL sense rom) dail ##778#, click edit mode, then type in password (usually 000000), but it depends on ur carrier.
From there it depends on what your carrier needs the settings to be.
I messed with the APNs settings on my phone for weeks and nothing worked. Then i stumbled upon EPST settings and that fixed it. I had to contact someone in upper data communications in Bluegrass Cellular to get the correct settings. So good luck!

Not all towers support 3G or even internet. That could explain that but idk about the calling and sms.

Please don't flame me for not searching an answer for this, but I've been looking for 2 hours without success for a solution.
I have a Touch Pro2 that is for a buddy, so not even my phone, and she has no data allowance in her contract, so any weather lookup, microsoft My Phone or internet connections are going to cost her dearly till she sorts out a new Sim & contract.
Is there an easy way to turn data connections off, leaving the SMS service alone, then to switch it back on in the future when the Sim is changed? I know that on my own HD2 if you simply turn off data connection in the comm manager it switches back on when the phone is reset or thinks that data is needed.
I'd appreciate any help or pointers please! I'm going blind on these forums!
Here you go Try this. http://www.modaco.com/content/pocket-pc-software/246171/new-free-utility-nodata/
it is called NoData
Excellent! Thankyou! and this will survive soft resetting with the data still disabled, and allow SMS but not MMS?
Thanks for the help. I might actually have this done by the time my buddy is due to pick it up now
I think it does. I never used it so I can't say anything about it.

B-I-N-G-O-----spells Bingo!
Also you can search for 1 minute auto gprs disconnect
another good solution is to:
menu>settings>Connections>connection setup, change your country to other country. GPRS will invalid. still SMS and call can be working perfect.
Can't find any of those settings

I can find neither of these settings on my Energy ROM (which I flashed right after I got it).
I also found this, which would be my preferred solution - if I could find it. :

I think I have managed to disable the data connection by going into the settings:
Menu> Settings> Wireless Controls> Mobile Networks> Access Point names
And then geting rid of all except the T-mobile UK settings and then renaming the APN to general.t-mobile.uks (just added an "s").

I did ask this in the Energy ROM thread, but nobody answered me there. But I am looking for a general solution (without extra software), since I'm not sure I really want to stick with this ROM.
Thanks in advance for your time!
I use this app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=610657
It is great! You can enable disable conections (Internet, MMS, WAP etc.) Also is soft reset resistant =P
I changed the apn settings on my desire and now I am having problem connecting to the internet using either 3G or hSPDA. before changing the settings I was able to connect to the internet using 3G but now when I have try to go online and the 3G icon is displayed the phone does not do anything and if it will evetually connect to the internet it will only do via the H (HSPDA)... I have reset the apn to default and its all the same, no improvement, I have input the mms settings again with no effect.... no its getting on my nerves now... am thinking of reseting the phone back to factory settings.....
I suggest you get new settings from here: http://support.t-mobile.co.uk/help-and-support/index?page=home&cat=SOFTWAREDOWNLOADS

So far i believed that hd2 and touch 2 phones are wm not android :? ??? strange...
are there any options for different android phones? hero, magic, etc... as they should work with desire
just go to the APN settings and press Menu>return to defaults. The settings are preprogrammed in for t-mobile UK, and they are definitely correct.
As for not being able to connect on 3G, that is a known t-mobile issue. When 3G is showing, it is supposed to change up to H when you try and send/receive data. sometimes, their network does not change up successfully, and you end up sitting on 3G with no data transfer.
turn mobile data off and back on again and that usually fixes it. There's three or four threads on that on the T-mobile website.
Now this is interesting ...
After I read your reply below, I think that issue is NOT only in the UK.
Because I use T-Mobile NL and I got exactly the same problem!!!
I am still using my HTC Kaiser though and I was (still) confused why I "suddenly" could not connect to the internet
I use Opera Mini, at first it was connected fine, browsed several websites and then suddenly dead on ... cannot connect.
Restart Opera Mini, same issue ... the connection still there.
Restart the data connection ... there you go, I was able to browse again.
Damn! I did not know that this is T-Mob issue I tried to clean my WM device, reinstall Opera and whatnot ....
Oh yeah, this issue just happened recently ... like a month or two months.
Before that, I have no problem like this.

Have anyone encountered this problem: I'm using APNdroid on my galaxy s. but whenever I try to turn my APN on. I will get a 3G signal but I wont be able to browse or connect to anything. I check the APN settings, but I think all settings is correct. I tried another program of same functionality, but still the same problem. Have any work around on this?
Are you switching from wifi to 3g? Theres a bug in earlier firmwares that causes connection errors when you switch between the two (at times).
Temporary solution is to reboot phone, or set to airplane mode and back (seems to work for some, didnt work for me).
Permanent solution, have to flash a newer firmware.
I hope that helps... if this is a completely diff thing.. what a waste lols.
Yeah, I usually keep my WiFi on. If I don't have a wifi access that's the I'm switching to APN. Tried the flight mode on/off, still the same thing.
This is such an inconvenience. Hope Samsung will fix this problem on the next firmware release. It's not good for a flagship phone to have this basic problem.
Thanks.
I don't think that is a FW issue it sounds more like a program issue.
You can try to create a APN with fake settings, so you can select that one when you don't want that your phone use internet.
Install HiAPN from the market, create a fake APN with anything for apn name, then on your homescreen, add the "Rotator Only" widget of HiAPN.. You can now touch the widget to toggle between your actual APN and the fake APN.. Works every time, does not stall after sometime like APNdroid etc..

This seems to be a good idea. Will try it later. THANKS!
I'm running my Captivate glide on Orange network (device is unlocked).
I rooted it following all the steps shown in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1378082 (BTW, works great thanks).
I kept AT&T rom, but issue happens also with Rogers rom.
This happens only on 3G/3G+ connections.
WiFi works great.
The issue looks quite simple: data connection drops (very) often.
No more email push notifications, ...
Have to go to Settings > Network > Airplane mode : switch it on and then witch it off to get data connection back.
It is not an operator issue. My other phone(s) are using the same and data connection works.
Is this a radio rom issue ? Is there a fix ? (didn't find a thing related to that issue).
Anyone having this issue ?
Depends on how strong your network is, I have experienced this a few times.
I keep getting this now that I have had more experience with it, anyone else experiencing random sharp drops in data speed/connection?

Well, I have 4 out of 5 bars... Signal looks strong enough to me.
If I use the same SIM card in a HTC MyTouch 4G slide => Works great, no data connection drops at all !
Looks like it depends on what programs are running and using the data connection:
- email push - connection last long enough.
- when I'm running Bejive (IM) - connection last a bit less (before the 1st drop).
- when I add Skype & LoudTalks : almost every 5 minutes connection drops.
I also noticed that after a voice phone call, sometimes data connection doesn't (cannot) restart by itself ...
Here is an idea :
Is there a way to tweak Operator connection like it can be done with HTC phones : GSM + CDMA, CDMA Only ?
Because when you switch the phone to CDMA only, it uses different frequencies and allow to keep data connections while talking on the phone.
Didn't find that option in Captivate Glide settings ...

I just checked ... I don't have the "Network Mode" option in "Mobile Networks" section.
I have Roaming, allow data connection, APN, ... but not Network mode.
Weird...
I checked the operator info. Nothing out of the ordinary there.
I'm stuck ...and it keeps happening. No solution for now.

Already did that, but that was a few days ago when looking for the WiFi tethering feature ...
I'll flash it back to Rogers kernel & ROM and test.
Update: Flashed Rogers rom.
Good news is I now have the Network settings back. (AT&T rom is not the right one, for sure !)
Data connection last longer. But the issue is still here.
Still investigating...
Anyone else having this issue ?
the day before yesterday, I went to the copier room in my school and stayed for about 2 hours (too many copying). before i get out, i have no signal (mobile network not available). I need to go out to have signal back or reboot.
It happened again yesterday on the exact same location, I'm going to be there again now.
I believe it might be location wise....in my case at least.

I checked, looks like it is not linked to a specific location. I've been travelling and issue kept occuring.
Once data connection is ok, it usually stays up for 2 to 5 minutes, then drops.
"4G" symbol is still displayed - but no more data connection. Web pages not available in browser, no email sync, no more IM, ...
While data connection is down, Cellphone still works, WiFi as well.
It may be linked to an APN issue ... Or definitely a Radio ROM issue.
I'm running Baseband I927RUXKJ5.
Anyone else having this issue ?
When I got the phone the AT&T rep told me there was a known issue with the phone dropping down to lower data speed. He told me if I experienced it to get a new SIM card. Doesn't sound exactly the same but maybe try that?
Firmware: 6.0.1
Model: SM-N920A
UPDATE: Problem solved. Turns out it's an issue with the WIFI scanning in LOCATION, not in the wifi settings. While I still think this is an issue with the firmware, at least there's a way to get it to stop freaking out until they get it fixed.
Whenever I turn on the Wifi, it will often begin a cycle of rapidly turning off and back on again. If you watch the switch that indicates 'on' and 'off', it's constantly fluctuating between the two. -Immediately- after the switch shows it's turned on, the text just below the switch says "turning off.." and it turns off, immediately afterward turning back on, and the process repeats constantly until the phone dies.
Something is either forcing it to turn off, or forcing it to turn on. I've tried adjusting the settings for my third-party texting app (Textra), and even after disabling the entire app and using the stock one, the issue persisted.
I've tried restarting, I've tried clearing the cache via the bootloader.
I've exhausted the entire suite of options in settings for anything Wifi related, no configuration of settings has resolved the issue, including turning off wifi scanning.
I've tried entering the combination of "#", "*", and 0's and 1's (can't remember it off the top of my head) to access the wifi settings to turn off the power saving, but my phone under the listed model and firmware showed no such option.
The problem persists in any location, so I know it's not anything to do with the network I'm trying to connect to.
The only way I've gotten it to stop is going to the wifi settings menu, and rapidly tapping the switch while it constantly goes back and forth. I've managed to get it to stay in the "on" position, but that's the closest thing to a fix I've been able to find.
I've combed through many threads in the AT&T Note 5 troubleshooting topic, and can hardly find anything that describes this particular issue, only with wifi "not staying connected" or other obscure descriptions that upon further inspection were -not- the issue I'm having here.
Were it up to me I would root the thing and put stock Nougat on there and be done with it. But alas, AT&T has removed that option.
I am willing to do a factory reset, but I'd like to know if anyone else has had this issue and if there is any other way to solve it, so I can avoid it in the future.
Settings > wifi > more (top right corner) > advanced > always allow scanning - set to 'off'
Like I said, I've exhausted all possible options in the menus relating to wifi.
This is what I see when I go into the "Advanced" settings in Wifi.
Network Notification (on or off)
Hotspot 2.0 (on or off)
Keep wifi on during sleep (never)
Auto connect to AT&T wifi (on or off)
Install network certificates
MAC address
IP address
That's all there is. I just factory reset my phone, restored it, and the problem in the OP persists.
I rebooted it in safe mode, and the problem still persists. At this point, it looks like it's an issue with the individual handset, unless there's anything I've missed. This is beyond frustrating.
Sorry but can you explain to me how you stop this from happening?
Mine going crazy from time to time, drives me nuts, and i can't stop it.
Btw this doesn't exist on my AT&T Note 5 --> Settings > wifi > more (top right corner) > advanced > always allow scanning - set to 'off'
Kill AT&T Wifi Direct and AT&T Hot Spots.. Remove them as System Apps also.. You should get a message that it is replacing it with the stock version somewhere along this path then your wifi will work flawlessly again even with 5GHz, go figure I guess Google does a better job at WiFi.'
Edit: (sloppy instructions)
DEVICE|APPLICATION MANAGER
"MORE" top right corner
CHANGE SYSTEM SETTINGS
<disable AT&T smart WiFi and anything else that is AT&T or Samsung, including theme nonsense if you want)
Now remove it from Apps....
DEVICE|APPLICATION MANAGER
Force Stop AT&T Smart Wifi. Disable AT&T Smart WiFI.. (Select Storage in same screeen, restrict background data.. Remove permissions)
I realize some of my steps are redundant but AT&T will update stuff then turn those apps back on somehow.. But not if you gut it like I described above
