When I leave my apartment until I disconnected from WiFi, I getting into the elevator and the data is searching for network and will not find any.after I get out of the elevator, it connects to 2G and stay there for long time.
If I switch WiFi off,, before I get into the elevator, it will connect directly to 4g and stay there(and this is how I like it).
But most of the time I forget switch off the WiFi, so I have to wait something like 10 minutes to get 4g connection.
Any way of disabling 2G, but leave 3G & 4G?

You could try dialing *#*#4636#*#* which will open the 'Testing' settings and then navigate to Phone information and scroll down until you find a little drop down box which you can select which network types you want to run. I myself use CDMA/EvDo/GSM/WCDMA/LTE Auto which switches between those when it needs to but if you only want to use 4G then you can switch to 'LTE only'.
Goodluck and I hope that does what you wanted!
Edit: I just realized that that number may not work on all phones, if that fails and you cannot access it with that then the only other method I can think of is to download Pimp My Rom from the Play Store and once installed open it and navigate to Tools < Scroll to the bottom & tap Device Hidden Menu > Access Hidden Menu. Please if you decide to wander around in this app then make a Nandroid backup first as this app is still in beta and very unstable, I recommend just using it for the device hidden menu options until you get what you need done.

I remember on my One X , this trick was working but after a reboot it was resetting to its previous state. No idea if this is still the case with M8

I had problems once with my phone only using 3G and using this to set it to allow 4G solved my problem permanently, hopefully it won't "reset" with yours, though I've never heard of that issue happening so it may be uncommon.

recently got my HTC Hero I am with Optus (Australia) all the time when it says 3G at the top of the screen the connection is terrible (speed tests are slow etc) however if that says H i get more bars and super fast connection
if i use just 2G its just plan slowand not usable for VOIP etc
I am wondering is there a command i set to say only use H which i am guessing HSDPA?
Thank you
OzJames
The phone automatically uses the best connection available to it.
If it's not showing H, you're not within range of HSDPA service.
check on the market and download an apps called "any cut".after u install it open it and create a short cut for phone info by tapping on create a shortcut then choose activity then phone info by scrolling down to the options that says phone info.now go back to the short cut created called phone info and open it and scoll down to set preffered network type.the phone has a default settings to wcdma preffered.tap on the pull down menu and choose wcdma only and press on the back key twice to go to the home screen .this keeps your connection on 3g or H but will reduce in areas you cant get 3g or H.WHEN YOU GET THESE CONNECTION PROBLEMS CHANGE IT TO GSM ONLY.hope this helps

I don't understand, what is the purpose of doing this?
Like I said above, the phone will always use the best connection available (unless you set it otherwise in the options). Why set it to WCDMA only?
If you're in range of HSDPA service, the phone will use it.
Maybe I'm missing something, but this makes as much sense to me as asking how you can download more RAM to your computer

actually it would be like setting the computer up that it would only use a fast internet connection, and if it is slow not to use it at all. would be like connection fast -> page loads, connection slow -> page is not loaded at all.
hs(d/u)pa is an extension to the umts standard. if it is not available in the cell you are using there is nothing to do about it. if you have gsm with edge availabe that might even be faster than a bad 3g/umts connection, but that depends on many factors.
Works perfectly thank you
Its much more stable now

Heya, I'm also on Optus in Australia. The problem thatyou have described is actually really common with Optus users. Optus has way too many customers and have overloaded their system. A easy work around for a more stable connection is to change your APN from internet to yesinternet hope this helps.
I did something inadvertently and lost my 3g and data connections. As far as I can see, the settings are all right "Mobile network" is clicked under Wireless and Networks, the Mobile Icon is green -- but suddenly I lost 3g.
Could someone give me a checklist of things to do?
Desparately...
Joe
Have you maybe deleted your APN's?
menu>settings>wireless and networks>mobile networks>access point names. Also while in thre check network mode is set to gsm/wcdma auto.
the access point I have is Orange Internet -- with juicedefender-orangeinternet underneath. Should there be another one?
Joe
Turn aeroplane mode on and off, if that doesn't work turn off and remove battery. Sounds like you've got an issue that many had and that I use to have.Do a search for the work around, try data connection issues. It was a pain for many data would occasionally just stop working. The new update apparently fixes it.
I would also try things with juicedefender turned off to see if it is causing any problems.
Have you also checked your network mode isn't set to use 2g only?
tried airplane off and on -- no luck. Ditto with battery out and juice defender disabled.
How do I check if Network mode is set to 2G? And how do I get the new upgrade?
(Many thanks for your help, by the way.)
Joe
I've had exactly the same issue.
First thing I did was delete the APN for the faster TMob speeds and reverted to default. This immediately made it work for a few moments before all data connection was lost.
So I then after trying the various things (ie airplane mode - can't remember what else - maybe switching off juice defender?), I did a factory reset. This solved things - until I reinstalled JD, and then the problem rearose. I ahve since binned JD, and I don't have any issue - just a rapidly decreasing battery level...
I just did a hard reset to switch to gmail!
Is there some way to uninstall juice defender?
Also, I just noticed that when I turn my Desire on, I no longer get the choice to choose HTC Sense -- what could have caused that?
Joe
If you performed a hard reset, then this should have deleted Juice Defender and all your pre-installed apps.
To delete it manually, go to Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications and select Juice Defender from the list and choose the Uninstall option.
To check if you network is set to 2G, go to Menu > Settings > Wireless & Networks > Network Mode. If it shows GSM only selected, then it is set as 2G, set it to the GSM/WCDMA instead.
For Sense, go to Settings > Applications > Sense UI then clear defaults and force stop, then hit the home button and choose Home when given the option. You can then set it as default and turn it off or on.
Ta for that. 3g is still on, I've uninstalled Juice Defender and still no joy. (It had gone when I did the reset, but I installed it again. Didn't have any problem with it at first.) Strangely, I can't find Sense UI amongst the applications. Could the hard reset have deleted it?
Anyway, its beginning to look like another hard reset tonight, when I have access to wifi....
Joe
Apologies... it would show up as HTC Sense, not Sense UI
You can also try the HomeSwitcher app, to easily switch between launchers: http://www.androlib.com/android.application.ymst-android-homeswitcher-qEw.aspx
Hello,
i have the exact same trouble.... Lost of all data connexion! Wifi is working properly, but in 3G sometime i lose connexion and i m unable to connect back!
Only way to do it is to turn off the phone and turn it back in, and most of the time it works.
The thing i get since 2 days (since the update in fact) is that before i go to bed i surf a bit, its working, then i plug the phone and go to sleep... then on the morning, no more data connexion!
This is REALLY annoying, and i can't figure out why it is behaving like that.... i have APNdroid installed, but when i lost the connexion even if i try to enable/disable it, nothing to do....
Please help!!
Orange?
Any of you guys on Orange by any chance?
My work mate and I both have a desire and lose 3G when at work. We can call our handsets and they both go straight to vm. They also fail sms.
We can only reliably use the handsets on GSM.
When I go home I switch back to GSM/WCDMA auto and all is OK, except my buddy doesn't live far from work so is on the same cell.
We think it's an issue with an Orange 3G mast that serves our area.
Same thing happens with my N97 and I thought it was handset related.
Data Connection Problem
Hey People,
I have a similar problem with my Galaxy S2 too, on Resurrection remix 4.0.3. I have tried everything well almost everything I know about. I have also installed automatic net services from Orange romania. It didn't help too. I believe there are people who can help fix this problem and releases my pain.
Any helpwould be appreciated.
I had the same problem once. It was the EPST settings.
1. Who is your carrier?
2. What rom do you have? In order to edit the EPST settings you need to
a. Know what your doing
b. Have the ORIGINAL sense rom installed.
You will probably need to call your carrier and tell them your data is not working and you believe it to be the EPST settings. To get into these settings, (in the ORIGINAL sense rom) dail ##778#, click edit mode, then type in password (usually 000000), but it depends on ur carrier.
From there it depends on what your carrier needs the settings to be.
I messed with the APNs settings on my phone for weeks and nothing worked. Then i stumbled upon EPST settings and that fixed it. I had to contact someone in upper data communications in Bluegrass Cellular to get the correct settings. So good luck!

Not all towers support 3G or even internet. That could explain that but idk about the calling and sms.
Hi,
Have flashed CM7 rc1.5 over my stock sbf = no problems except no data connection and android process media force closing repeatedly tried all settings I could think of , ( including Baseband switcher).
Had no joy so flashed ( via rsd lite) the recommended 3.4.2-179-2 CEE DEBLUR sbf and data worked again . Put CM7 back on and got exactly same 2 problems .
Been trying loads of different settings all day and media force close issue has disappeared by luck I think .
But main issue is still no data - phone status shows " mobile network type hspa",
but "mobile network state disconnected"
Really hope for a fix as it's a sickening thought to go back to 2.2
Thanks for any thoughts.
Same issue. I could not turn on data (no arrows in the taskbar). Tried clear caches, factory reset it helped for a while. But now i have the similar issue (arrows are in the taskbar, but they don't go green).
Baseband switcher?
Tried baseband switcher (pretty much every alternative) , but still no connection at all.
try harder. It should be a baseband problem really.
Also check if the access point configured correctly.
did you also try network operators? if your carrier appears more than once, pick the top one.
Go to settings then wireless and network then mobile networks then accesses points click menu key the first one on the bottom of your phone..and select restore to defaults...after that choose your access point...
go back and see if data enable checkbox is checked..
It should work now
If not then open the access point you selected and scroll down to APN type ..open it and type default, supl in it
Also try default, supl, dun if the above doesn't work..
After you do this data should connect

BINGO -
Had to type the settings in manually as supplied on Talkmobile website , some were there already but were for pay and go account whereas I'm on a contract .
Thanks very much for the help / replies really appreciated.
Now to put CM7 through some everyday use and see just how superior it is to stock -looking very at the moment. : )

I've gone through these steps but I can't open "access point" to get to the AP type. Don't see howto do that. I have APN on screen but can't open it.
Just click on the apn..
Like open settings.. Mobile and network.. Mobile network (bottom most).. Access point.. Now you should see a list of 1-3 access points.. Just touch any of them.. It will open

Theres one thing thats tripped me up in the past, and thats disabling 3G, as my network doesnt offer 2G at all.
Does anyone know of a way to force the phone to use 3G only, maybe a program to do this.

So in other words, you want to disable 1x?
If you go to System Settings, then under Wireless & Networks, select "More..."
...then select "Mobile networks" and then select "Network Mode," I believe it is in this menu you can select "EvDo only" to force 3G.
I don't know if the options in this menu actually work, however I believe this technically accomplishes what you want to do.

Not on my Dinc, it happens too many times, it slowes down in speed, and done not go back until it stops downloading, or trying, and at the speed it will take minutes to load a web page, and never finish.
I would prefer not to have service at all, of course this is quite common also indoors, at malls mainly having bad cellular service makes no cense, with service is so bad in the middle of a city.
Ok, I got an app that will do what I want, somewhat.
Called 3G data only, from what I understand, if there is no 3G there is no data for programs that require data.
There is an option in cyanogenmod for evdo only, i'm gonna give that a shot. I'll report back if there is any news.
Ok. If you do this, you don't get texts anymore.

The program I tried worked, but the speed was as slow as 1X, in areas where there was no 3G, and the program kept the phone on 3G.
I have a galaxy nexus
ROM : XenonHD 4.2.2 (tried Stock 4.2.2 for 2 weeks)
Baseband : 19250XXLJ1 (was on earlier ones as well)
Kernel : Stock
Location : Bangalore(India)
Connection : TataDoCoMo
My internet (primarily using 2g, sometimes 3g) and it drops very often.
To enable it, the below steps does NOT word:
1. Toggling flightmode
2. Restart mobile
Only one step works (75% success)
Manually search for network and select network automatically and sometimes to manually select the network.
Please help.
Update: (Strict 2g mode enabled)
I've been sitting in my seat since posting the previous post. Checked my internet and i do not have data connection. Gonna enable it now.
Even manual selection of network dint give me data connection after waiting for 5 mins.
Enabled and disabled flight mode - waited for 5 mins - no go.
Gonna restart and check - last option - no go.
Now i disabled data - strangely, i lost signal for a few second.
Enabled data again - waited for 2 mins - and walah it came.
I dont know on what basis the internet comes and goes like this. It is not humanely possible to do all these steps, just to get the internet enabled. Can anyone help me from this plight.
Can anyone please offer some advice?
You can change rom, and check if it will be fixed.
What kind of network strength do you see in “Status“ page in settings? Post a screenie.
Try a different ROM to be sure it isn‘t a network fault.

I tried a lot of methods and this worked finally. Am on latest radio release I9250XXLJ1. Browse and install it if you are not on it.
Dialed *#*#4636#*#*
selected "Testing"
Selected "Phone Information"
Scrolled down and set the option of "Set preferred network type" as GSM auto (PRL)
Noticed change in GSM Service, GPRS service.
Next time, this dint work tried the below method and finally worked.
At the bottom right corner, the properties option indicated by 3 perpendicular dots took me to change Radio Band.
I tried with the first 5 option with no network coverage and finally AUS Band started giving me uninterrupted data signal.
Success...
