[Q] Is it new or refurbished? - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Will be receiving a new sm-t705 tomorrow. Sadly, the seller isn't exactly known as a reputable procurer of tablet goodness... Refurbished sold as new might be a reality (not stolen, but possibly tinkered with). Besides scuffs and marks, what can I look for in making sure I'm dealing with a genuinely untouched item?

You might try AnTuTu Officer to start with.
......TiTiB (tweak it 'til it breaks)......
Galaxy Tab S | SMT-T700 | klimtwifi

Call Samsung, tell them the serial number and ask if it's been sent under repair or something.

Boot into download mode and see if knox is untripped and everything says official.

you can also download phone info from play store. there is one tab under personal showing usage history like charger connect counter. it should be depend on how many time has you charge your device. used device usually higher.
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=phone info&hl=en

Thanks,
Knox warranty void set to zero, 8 charge connects (mostly my own), 2 headset connects (not my own, probably testing). Unit looks good!
Cheers

Surely the biggest sign would be the void sticker on the box being broken.

Got mine today, What System Information tool is best?

Hey there, received my Galaxy nexus today! been waiting for this beast for a while now!
I know this sounds completely nuts, but what's the Best app to gather system information/benchmark to double check the phone is genuine, What Should I be seeing in the About Phone section?
This is a UK GSM bought from amazon TTSims.
The only reason Im asking is because TTSims seems like a dodgy company, this phone being the most expensive thing they sell, and the box it came in was a little battered and you could open it without breaking the security seal, I emailed them asking if the phone was definitively brand new, not a used or refurbished model, and they guaranteed me it was new.
Just want to be anal about it, and make sure everything sweet, and enjoy it!
check imei (take out battery and check the code),also on the box and then check the internal imei code if those 3 are correct than you have a genuine gnex

Thanks for thanking me
They all match, thank you.
no problem

Buying a used Note 4

What are thing I should check out before buying used to make sure I am not going to get a phone that could possibly become blacklisted?
Check the IEMI/ESN number and buy it from a reputable source/person. Swappa is a great place to have it verified. however if something was to happen down the line then you would have record and it can be verified.
check out AC. Several got tricked there and even the IEMI checked out and all.
These bastards are very very good nowadays.

Not to plug my own stuff, but I'm currently selling a note 4 with spigen neo hybrid case, mint condition on swappa. It still has the original screen protector / wrapper on it. I know I have a low post count, I've been a lurker for years. Let me know if you have any questions.

i may be selling my dev edition soon

Why does Samsung wipe your device for a screen repair?

I sent my t800 in for a screen repair had it exactly how I liked rooted, blisspop on backup and currently trying out ironman. All my settings, games, icons everything possible gone. Its back to nib. I'm relieved my device is like new but what's the point of them doing this? Plus I don't have a windows PC so getting root is a hassle. Sorry just annoyed

Well probably to be extra safe of making sure everything works. They mostly do that with every repair they do

They could at least mention it when your setting up the repairs. Plus the tablet had rapid battery draw before and it still has it. There supposed to do a full diagnostics after repair

Maybe they didn't send you your repaired device, but a refurbished one. This is quite common with electronics. Did you check serial/IMIE numbers?
I would asume that, too.
they always wipe for data protection ****

I did send in my gs3 when it came out for repair, because the screen broke, and I asked the customer service people why they wiped the data, they gave me various reasons like ; I might get a refurbished one, they need to make sure the screen works and they run various tests. And for my own privacy protection so that no one intends to go thru my phone and gather data.

Tab S4 - Live Demo Unit

Hello guys,
I acquired Samsung galaxy Tab S4 SM-T830X for 300 euros and it is live demo unit and I have a question how I can remove "retail" mode where I can not install some apps as Antutu and CPU-Z?
Should I root it or what to do?
Thank you in advance!

I bought it in local shop... How they get it, I don't know...
Download FW from SAMFIRM for the device - Flash with ODIN for the device with your countries FW
See if that will allow it around...
Just a thing as well - Some stores here in the UK will sell Demo units as stock if the customer asks if end of line etc

The Tab S4 has just been released. How is that end of line?
For what reason would a store sell a demo model when stock is still available?

First off - Great to see you here - Noticed you had created a Tab S4 TWRP
Second - I agree with you. But if you are over here in the UK - CPW and O2 barely have any stock of these... Ive seen a couple of stores sell demo units in some capacities. Back in 2012 - When Comet went under - They were selling Demo units real cheap for IPADs etc because of administration.
If the user has picked up a demo unit lawfully (Notice how i say that ) Then it could be that a store was going to stock the device but due to delays in procuring etc (CPW had issues and pushed back release from Samsung by WEEKS!) they no longer plan to stock it.
Either way there are numerous reasons why they have a demo unit. Some legal some not so much... But either way while we dont know the full circumstances... We can assist if need be.
If the OP has stolen / obtained unlawfully then there is very little that can be done apart from to block the IMEI.
I wonder if the OP would like to tell us how he acquired said device,...

See that's the issue. These devices are not supposed to be released to the public, but destroyed.
I agree there are instances where demo devices end up in public hands, but not usually brand new recently released devices.
FRP is meant to protect unlawfully 'acquired' devices from being accessed and we get a lot of posts regarding that also.
I'd gladly assist anyone with a legitimate issue, but I feel uneasy with this sort of thing without actual proof of 'aquirement' especially considering posts related to unlawful practices are not allowed on XDA.
I'm not pointing fingers here, just voicing concern.
Thats very true with FRP. What should also be kept in mind here.
Samsung's retail mode is very different to the Retail Mode built into Developers Options.
Thing is - If the user does as my advice. Very quickly we will know if there is an issue with the device. It will ask for the original Google Account Assigned to the device ^_^
Lets see what happens
I removed retail software and flash new one and everything is working fine now... It was also some issues with charging but now everything is great. Like this forum!
Sorry for the inconvenience, but the guy sold me and I don't have idea how he got it... In my country there is no possibility to get it so soon after official release.
Can you share solution please
When I try to flash it says no flash interface found
I'd love to get a copy of the DeX switcher app that's included with the real Retail Mode.

Back with samsung

Hey folks. I just recently switched from oneplus to samsung. Haven't used a samsung device since the galaxy s5 with the bootloader unlock exploit.
Used LG for a while, then tried out the oneplus 8pro which is now at the repair center. I picked up what was advertised as an open box galaxy s20 + 5g (986u1) device.
After I powered it on, and set it up, I went to activate developer options and found that they were already on. Does that sound right that dev options would already be turned on if it was a new unused device?
Thanks.
Turn them off for your answer...
Yeah, I thought it sounded like a silly question.... Deserves a silly answer.

Samsung QC might have been playing with it and forgot to turn it off. Still it's disconcerting for a number of reasons.

Appreciate that. I found it interesting, and bit concerning that a brand new device would have developer settings activated. I purchased from an ebay seller. Based on their high approval scores, I felt pretty safe. I'll probably question them about it. Thankfully, everything on the phone seems to be working well. Peace.

You could reflash it to make sure there's no possibility of a rootkit. Probably just a goofball tech...

From what you've shared it sounds like you're in the clear. "Open Box" offerings always give me pause since sellers rarely post why the item was unsealed. At times sellers declare they only opened the item for testing but unless the offer is at a considerable discount below a comparable new, sealed unit and listed by a reputable seller with a fair return policy I'd avoid it.
I recently purchased a Dell XPS laptop on ebay from a dealer specializing in refurbished units. The listing reflected the item as "new". Before confirming the order I reached out and asked is the laptop factually new, has it ever been used? The seller replied "It's new to us"? WTF does that mean? lol!
