Hey folks. I just recently switched from oneplus to samsung. Haven't used a samsung device since the galaxy s5 with the bootloader unlock exploit.
Used LG for a while, then tried out the oneplus 8pro which is now at the repair center. I picked up what was advertised as an open box galaxy s20 + 5g (986u1) device.
After I powered it on, and set it up, I went to activate developer options and found that they were already on. Does that sound right that dev options would already be turned on if it was a new unused device?
Thanks.
Turn them off for your answer...
Yeah, I thought it sounded like a silly question.... Deserves a silly answer.

Samsung QC might have been playing with it and forgot to turn it off. Still it's disconcerting for a number of reasons.

Appreciate that. I found it interesting, and bit concerning that a brand new device would have developer settings activated. I purchased from an ebay seller. Based on their high approval scores, I felt pretty safe. I'll probably question them about it. Thankfully, everything on the phone seems to be working well. Peace.

You could reflash it to make sure there's no possibility of a rootkit. Probably just a goofball tech...

From what you've shared it sounds like you're in the clear. "Open Box" offerings always give me pause since sellers rarely post why the item was unsealed. At times sellers declare they only opened the item for testing but unless the offer is at a considerable discount below a comparable new, sealed unit and listed by a reputable seller with a fair return policy I'd avoid it.
I recently purchased a Dell XPS laptop on ebay from a dealer specializing in refurbished units. The listing reflected the item as "new". Before confirming the order I reached out and asked is the laptop factually new, has it ever been used? The seller replied "It's new to us"? WTF does that mean? lol!

Here’s one from Craigslist. Apparently, they are listing on different Craigslist’s sites in the country with the same add. They are located in Provo, Utah with a store location in case anyone wants to verify they actually have some.

Woah, located in Provo, Utah and selling the Touch Pro 2 for $350? I'm about 40 minutes north of Provo, so maybe I'll check it out...
Anyone got a phone number for them? Or what is the name of the store location?

No-one said it's a fake, the craigslist "photo" is a stockphoto (a rendering).
HTC is not SELLING any of these devices yet.
Only ones released are the pre-production models, they are eg. for operators for testing.
NONE are yet for sale.
Fake. The phone hasn't been released
As I type this I am obtaining a new ROM from my source for the Rhodium.
RUU_Rhodium_TMOUS_1.04.531.0_Radio_Rhodium_3.43.25.13_Signed_Test.exe
This ROM was released to me today. There's no way that there are consumer grade devices for sale out there. I promise you, if the seller is true and has the device, the Rhodium had two stages in its development. One included hardware and software that were "non-turbo", later on the hardware was enabled with "turbo" but had to be disabled with a specialized cab. If that was not completed the firmware would stall and there would be an error stating that the hw/sw versions do not match. this was a real pain in the ass to get around that. So finally, everything is a running beta stage as of today.
Buyer beware.

its funny, i'm comparing my device with the ebay one. they look nothing alike. The back isn't even close, the keyboard looks cheap, the chrome on the edges doesn't exist, the screen size is wrong. I hate it when people try to prey on device junkies... don't they know that's like teasing a kid with candy.
I thought of china clone, probably doesn't even run winmo..
Hi guys, I'm selling my lapdock for the Atrix. I bought it brand new during launch day at around $300 when bundled with phone. The lapdock is in perfect condition - Never dropped, scratched or put any kinds of drinks near it.
To be honest i've only used my Lapdock for a total of around 40 hours, i was working on a Windows Conversion for the dock but since I'm a Game Designer and I'm starting to get real serious with a project, i need to let go of it and get a real Laptop...i really like this lapdock its very light and very useful (especially after what Sogarth did with his mods).
I currently see onit priced Amazon, Ebay, and a few other sites that sell it for $200 as the lowest. I'm trying to sell it for $200 if possible.
Shipping to 94607?
Sure, that's not too far.
If you both can't make a deal, i am interested to buy this as well. However would you ship internationally ?

Someone created a thread to sell a laptop he bought new and has used. People that are viewing the thread see someone else point them towards a refurbished unit from AT&T, as though to suggest it's better to go there than buy from the person who created the thread. AT&T refurbished units are a crapshot, you don't know what the previous issue was. They have no bearing on the OP's thread and is a full-on c*$kblock, if you will.
Tried PM'ing a couple of times but aint working! Will give 200 providing shipping to Melbourne Australia is not too expensive. PM me if you can
why the mods havent come in yet i dont know but this isnt the buy&sell section
OSNPA, are you suggesting that it would be better to keep an unwitting Atrix user in the dark, letting him or her purchase a used lapdock for around $35 more than the cost of an "officially" used lapdock, just so the seller will not be offended?
It's called market competition. An informed consumer living in the U. S. with the opportunity to purchase a refurbished dock from ATT would never pay more and wait longer for one unless he or she were doing the seller a favor.
To put it simply, if the seller intends to sell this dock to an ATT customer, he or she will have to lower the price or take advantage of someone's ignorance. In my opinion, it would be bad form to keep a consumer in the dark and just sit back and snicker as you watch a transaction (or in this case, a rip off) transpire. But hey, at least the seller didn't get his feelings hurt AND he made more than what he should have.
Fortunately for the seller, not everyone has access to a refurbished lapdock, specifically our friends overseas, and $200 is quite a bargain in that market. I think everyone has a chance to win in this situation, and to me, it seems like bad form to try and prevent this ideal scenario -- one in which no one feels cheated.
I don't mean to attack you, OSNPA, but I'm trying to understand what you have to gain by trying to foster a market on these forums in which the lapdock is kept at an artificially high price. Are you trying to sell one yourself? Anything to help me understand where you're coming from would be much appreciated.
To the seller, I think you will have no problem selling the dock for $200. (I would not have started so low.)
To anyone who does not have access to a refurbished lapdock, this price is almost impossible to beat.

That's actually not true. Refurbished is anything that has been brought back to factory specifications and tested to be working. Yes, some of these are broken units that have been repaired, but MANY others are just returned within the 30-day return period, especially for a once $400+ item like the lapdock. Mine also looks like its from the assembly line. More knowledge here: http://www.att.com/shop/wireless/devices/buy-refurbished-phones.jsp
I'm sure yours looks great though so happy selling!

Well, if customers are uninformed on the price of refurbished lapdocks when there's a thread dedicated to it in this very sub-forum, well I have no pity for them. It's a consumer's responsibility to educate themselves. He's not selling a refubished unit, it is not the same situation, so the prices should have no bearing on what the OP asks. Regardless of whether money is involved, think of it this way: a developer releases a ROM and the 1st response to that thread is another developer saying that he also released a ROM and go to this other thread to read all about it. You may like that idea, I don't know, to me it's a wtf moment.

Disclaimers: I don't know anyone in this thread, I am not selling or buying a lapdock, no animals were harmed in the making of this post, and I am not responsible for you bricking your phone. I just ask the opposite question as you: why is the OP not allowed to sell his lapdock for whatever the market pays?

I recently bought a C6503 from a German eBay seller, but it wasn't sealed in any way. More importantly, the phone had clearly been removed at least once from the plastic bag it came in, because there was a dent from the camera on the other side. It had been reinserted the other way around, then sent to me. I returned the phone.
I've now imported another C6503 from phonehouse.de and it too has arrived unsealed - neither the box nor the phone arrived sealed in any way. It mostly looks like it's been untouched. Some unboxing videos on YouTube show sealed versions, others not.
Which was yours? The most important reason for it to be sealed, to me, is because I want to condition the battery before turning the phone on, and if someone has used it before me then there's a chance I won't be able to. Plus, I like new stuff
Was your box sealed? Was the phone sealed in the plastic bag when in the box?
I bought my ZL at Amazon.de and it was not sealed. But I am sure that device was unused. The plastic protector was originally on the phone, also USB cable and earphones were not touched.
I know sometimes the box must be opened to insert local guarantee sheet, manuals, etc. in the box. Sometimes also some local changes are made on the device.
I don't have any troubles with my phone and I am really surprised when I see so many posts where users state their problems. Camera is great, battery life is excellent, scrolling is smooth, really no problems with my ZL, although the package was not sealed.
I got mine from Bell Canada and was sealed with a sony sticker

Okay, fair enough. Meanwhile, slightly worrying for me is that when I 'first' turned the phone on today, it booted straight away in German and didn't ask me to select a language or any other setup. It all looked new, but this suspects me to think someone else has turned it on before me. I don't know if there's a way I can check, but I was pretty disappointed by this.
I'm wondering however if it's a German retail thing, because this is the second order I've had from Germany (from different suppliers) and both were completely unsealed. Perhaps there's a law that requires them to check it boots up before shipping..?

In general, I'm also wondering what happens with those products that had been sold through internet sales and later returned by customers and of course already used? Is there any rule that buyer must get completely new device ?

Thank you for this. The phone is probably fine, but for the time being there is doubt in my mind.
I don't suppose anyone knows if there's a system menu I can access that will tell me how many times the phone has been booted? So far, I have only turned it on once, so if that number is anything more than one and can be shown on the system, I will have my answer.
I'd love to keep it, and not have the hassle of returning it, but it's such a lot of money and I want to love my handset 100%, and not have any doubt. It does seem strange that it didn't ask me for the setup guide, and the phone was also already set to vibrate which I thought was strange. Also, the Developer Options were already exposed, but I was of the belief that these need to be enabled by pressing the version number seven times.
The only thing is that I haven't yet put a SIM card in it, so I don't know if that means the phone wouldn't go straight to Setup.

Anyway, I ordered another ZL (this time black) as I saw a cracking deal on Amazon.it who were charging just €310! Price now back up to €499.

If a "new" phone doesn't boot into
setup (language choice) then it is not new! And, obviously, if it's broken in the box and the box is undamaged it's not new! Law is strict, if it is sold as new in product description it should be in factory condition ie. As left factory after fabrication...sealed and not having been switched on!

Exactly my thoughts, which is why I was surprised, since it was ordered direct from Amazon.de and I've never had any 'returns' passed off as a new phone before from them. Anyway, it went straight back as it was clear that either it was already used or someone at the Sony factory didn't do their job properly in passing appropriate QA tests.

Good luck!! It'll be worth waiting for, but I'd be wary of the 4.2.2 update! Lots having troubles with it in other threads. I have had nothing but grief on many devices ! What are thing I should check out before buying used to make sure I am not going to get a phone that could possibly become blacklisted?
Check the IEMI/ESN number and buy it from a reputable source/person. Swappa is a great place to have it verified. however if something was to happen down the line then you would have record and it can be verified.
check out AC. Several got tricked there and even the IEMI checked out and all.

Refurbished sold as new might be a reality (not stolen, but possibly tinkered with). Besides scuffs and marks, what can I look for in making sure I'm dealing with a genuinely untouched item?

you can also download phone info from play store. there is one tab under personal showing usage history like charger connect counter. it should be depend on how many time has you charge your device. used device usually higher.
