Spen wacom digitizer android source? - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooti

Anybody know where the wacom digitizer drivers are for our tablet within the Android source code and what changed between 4.4 and 5.0?
Use a spen with eraser and it worked completely in cm11 but when switched to cm12/12.1 the eraser no longer works nor does the tablet recognize movement on the screen with the eraser.
IT DOES WORK IF I ROLL BACK TO CM11 OR TW ROM with full functionality.
Also how would I pull up the wacom calls in logcats or ksmeg or the sort?? I'd like to help fix this but don't know where to look!

[Q] Alternate handwriting input keyboard for custom ROMs?

I just flashed Omni 4.4 and am generally loving it but soon came across an issue I didn't even think about. I usually will jot short things down through the Samsung keyboard's handwriting recognition features. I can't find a replacement for this functionality.
I assume someone else here has had the same thing happen, what did you go with? AFAIK we can't port the Samsung keyboard over without TouchWiz.

I agree. Very good alternative with good handwriting recognition. Still needs some touching up to be ideal, but a very good option.

Flip Cover on CM10.2?

Hi I recently bought a flip cover for my s4 mini and since I'm running cyanogenmod in my phone, I noticed that the flip cover doesn't turn the screen on/off like it's supposed to.. So I'm curious if there's any app that allows to do this on my phone with cm? The cover doesn't have s-view, but at least I expected to lock the phone when closed and keeped on my pocket. I read somewhere that only works with Touchwiz roms but I think it's possible at least make it work to lock screen via administrator device running in the background or something..

There're few apps can emualte that, first one comes to mind on the play store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hatroid.sview&hl=en
s4 mini s view doesn't work in custom roms (AOSP) !
hatroid it is really buggy in our phone
you 'll see yourself too
the most annoying thing for me is that i can't answer calls by swiping! this makes the whole sview concept useless ...
i tried hatroid and another application emulating s view but found nothing as good as the stock s view software
aosp rom just don't care for the S view thing...
only if a TW based custom rom existed for our 9195...
anyway if you find something usefull please let us know here
I decided to remove the flip because it was really useless, besides it was really uncomfortable while playing and answering calls. I only kept the black cover, it looks really good.

LOL! And why would AOSP care about the S-View from Samsung? If you like the Samsung features so much, keep the stock ROM. People use AOSP for a reason - to keep the manufacture bloat away.

because sview is not bloat !
plain and simple ...
Development state of HallMonitor
The S-View functionality is certainly not a bloat!
But development of HallMonitor seems to have stopped since version 0.4.2 (latest commit of the author "durka" is from 22 Jul 2014). This version doesn't support CM12(.1) (see issue 52 on durka's GitHub page).
The suggested installation of the "MagnetOff" Xposed module is not a very useful workaround since you can't use the hall sensor (magnet sensor) anymore and would have to fall back on the proximity sensor (which is a pain in the a**).
The GitHub user "manusfreedom" has added several features and took development of HallMonitor up to his version 2.0.2 beta (but his last commit is quite old too, from 21 Sep 2014). Has anyone tested manusfreedoms fork on CM12(.1)? Or does anyone know about a recent revival of HallMonitor's development? Would be so awesome to have this for CM12.1 ... :cyclops:
i have the same problem. hallmonitor and MagnetOff works not realy well! to much bugs..
its possible to export the feature from stock kernel? exist a custom rom with stock kernel?

[Q] S Pen features when rooted

Hi guys,
Sorry if this question has been asked and answered before. Search brought up no answers for me.
l have a note 10.1 2014 WIFI only. l haven't rooted it yet though I am familiar with rooting from other devices.
Now, I absolutely hate touchwizz and would love to flash a stock android rom onto my tablet, however l am worried that removing touchwizz will disable any s pen features.
Could somebody please confirm if I will be able to use s pen with a custom rom or not? I've looked through a fair few threads and cannot find an answer.
thanks in advance.

Its the wifi only version (exynos chip?) anyhow i've rooted and installed twrp recovery now and backed up.
as for the rom, I'm looking for a complete stock android experience with S Pen features, looking through the rom section here I think I'll be going down the route of a cm11 based rom
Spen is not working with cm11. If you want spen, best bet is stick to TW rom.

I'm running Hyperdrive Rom with Nova launcher and all functionality with the spen is working fine. You might not like touchwiz on the stock Rom but on this Rom it flies.

This clarified lets answer the question; because this gimmicks\features are on TouchWiz and not on the SPen, if you take Touch-wiz out of the equation you will lose those functions but not necessarily the precise pen and the side button detection(which rely on the drivers been implemented correctly on the ROM and not on touchwiz itself).
Rooting the device doesn't affect which system you are running, only what privilege you have in it; so, Still TouchWiz=Gimmicks exist.
Now, if there are things you don't like about TouchWiz there are many ROMs based on it that try to fix many problems inherent to the system and thus you would still have TouchWiz features. On the other hand, if you want to install something like CyanogenMod, AOPK or OmniRom, you will trade Touchwiz gimmicks for those implemented on the ROM you chose(Different Rom, different gimmicks).
I would tell you to investigate which are the gimmicks you want before jumping ROMs. Read the post of every rom you would like to install before doing so.
Personally I couldn't care less for multiwindow or doubletap note gestures if the system stutters randomly and its dumbed down Samsung-style. Even with the great things guys here have achieved with Touchwiz framework(You are really doing great things guys :highfive i still feel like i am in an eternal battle using and controlling it; trying not to launch something i really didn't intended to, or praying for the system to do what i want when I want it to; it is not worth it for me. Touchwiz makes me feel awe but never lets me feel at home and comfortable with the environment. I prefer to install CM and feel the tablet like a nexus device with a nice Wacom pen than a colorfull collage of Touchwiz features. Again, this is my personal opinion.
IMPORTANT NOTE: SPen functioning(READ DISCLAIMER) is almost ready for the new cm ROMs for the wifi version. At this moment there are various cm bases ROMs with the SPen functioning only on landscape mode so if you use the SPen thoroughly for notes, drawings and stuff I recommend waiting a little bit more before making the jump, if you decided to go that way.
Greetings everyone, if possible I'd like to add one more question to this scenario.
I understand from the above that we lose the features from Touchwizz like the floating menu, however what about the general S-Pen functionality, like the 1024 levels of sensitivity?
In particular, I'd like to know if installing CM11 and Sketchbook and use it as efficiently as in a stock environment.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

It depends. If the ROM you want to install has the drivers and are correctly implemented(As in no Bugs), NO, you wont loose core functionality of the pen; Pen detection on the screen with its sensitivity, pen button detection, pen eraser and hover(and any combinations of those 4) are all driver based so they should all work on a ROM that implemented them.
As long as the not-touchwiz-based rom says that the pen works it means that those core functionality are indeed working, and if they dont, it is a bug.
The other aspect would be an outdated driver but i am sure the devs get what we already had on touchwiz and only port it or something, so i don't think we should worry about it.
Other aspect is that some apps like papyrus give you the option to use the pen's button as tool changer, item selector, and other stuff that could not be used on touchwiz because those gestures were taken by the system to open apps or action memo; so in a way, using CM gives you even better experience for 3rd party apps.
TL; DR If SPen drivers are in place you would have the same quality than on touchwiz for SPen Wacom core functionalities.

Issue with my IR blaster on Illusion 5.0.2.

Didn't work in the CM12 build I tried out either, but that was pointed out in their thread. Anyways, my issue, quite simply, is that the damn thing doesn't work. It's probably the ROM, but eh, maybe not. I remember universal IR APIs were implemented in KitKat, which is the only reason this bugs me so much(besides not having another way to turn on my TV - seriously, the buttons don't work and my physical remote is long gone). Anyways, what are you running on your G3? Does IR work? Is it LG or AOSP, KitKat or Lollipop? And most importantly, is it available for the vs985?

Using S-Pen without TouchWiz ?

When you go from a TouchWiz ROM to another (such as a CM-based ROM), is there any S-Pen support through other means?
Or do you lose all S-Pen and the WACOM digitizer layer support, and just end up with the same capacitive stylus support as found on any other phone ?
Thanks !
I'm on a CM based Lollipop (5.1.1) ROM and you do lose some S-pen functionality but I use apps in this thread below to emulate some Touchwiz S-Pen apps. Papyrus is a great substitute for S-Note
This thread is a little dated but most of the apps are still actively being updated.
