Hello,
I'm not asking about which ROM is the best. But as it was in the case on HTC there are some roms with better and worse camera quality (ex. sense 3,6 best camera, sense 5 worst). So which ROM has the best camera quality? I mean not the ROM itself but:
- sony Kitkat stock
- sony 5.0 stock
- sth based on CM 12
- sony ported from z3, z2 etc.
Please tell me if there are any differences between camera quality on each ROM.
Thanks

I've been used Sense 3/4/4+/5. I think during at Sense3(should be GB age), the camera on all Android is also bad. Sense 4/4+ is quite good and Sense 5 seems donoise too heavy so it made the quality looks bad. Never try Sense 6 though.
In my experiences, Z1c performs quite differently on all roms. I've heard some guys here and in other forum said stock 4.3(JB) got best details out but the color reproduction and WB on 4.3(and 4.4.2) is real poor. Indeed, I like stock 4.4.4 the most.
On stock 5.0.2, it looks like the jpg compression isn't as large as in JB/KK(good for outdoor). So some said better but the denoise algorithm looks more heavily now(worse than 4.4.4 at low light). But the 20MP mode quality on 5.0.2 should be a bit better(SA and scenes only available on 8MP supersampling mode). Overall, I will recommend to stick with 4.4.4 for more predictable camera quality and battery performance and wait until 5.1.1 out around July end or Aug.
CM always do bad camera on Z1c, forget it.

Thanks for reply. I tried 5.0 and I think it has better superrio auto mode. But the whole system is so laggy... So I will stay on 4.4.4

Bcoz on 4.4.4 you have to use this mod cam(for deodexed rom only) instead of the stock camera to get best quality or the custom rom you running pre-installed this mod.

I just saw that OMNIrom has finally been available for d3att and im quite excited about since it has multiwindow(one of the few things that keeps me locked to touchwiz).
But i was wondering is the stock camera a downgrade? I have read reports and discussions saying the stock camera is much more inferior to the touchwiz camera.
Besides the obvious benefits of having the newest android build, better battery(what i heard), and less bloat(although i usually just titanium them away), I would like peoples opinions on how else does stock compare to touch?

It depends on what you define personally as a "downgrade". Obviously because Touchwiz is proprietary to Samsung and not available for devs to port to their AOSP based roms, you're not going to get the fancy bells and whistles that come bundled with Samsung's camera app. However, I don't think it's fair to call it a downgrade if you're speaking merely in terms of picture and video quality.
From personal experience I've found the stock camera on most of the AOSP 4.3 based roms to be just as good in quality as Samsung's app. 4.4 based roms still have to work out bugs in the stock camera app so I wouldn't try those first. Find yourself a stable 4.3 based rom like CyanogenMod 10.2 or Quantum V2 Final and try your luck with those.
If you find that the camera lacks features you found yourself liking from the Samsung camera app, I suggest finding a good 3rd party camera app such as Camera Zoom FX. It provides just enough features that make the camera a pleasure to use while also retaining great picture quality. It has settings that allow for full 100% jpeg quality whereas some may limit the quality to 80% or less.
Hope this helps, I know how hard it is to find a straight answer since a lot of this depends on your own experience and observation but hopefully this leads you in the right direction.
thanks a lot for ur answer. like im quite sick of the time it takes to upgrade anything by samsung. i never knew that some apps would limit the size. but anyway ill wait for the 4.4 to be a little more stable first. ill definitely make the switch once i gte word that samsung wont support NA S3s anymore,
Hi,
I'd really like to use a custom ROM, but camera performance is rather important for me. How big is the difference in this aspect between a custom and original ROM?
And also, what's to expect in this subject? Is there any hope to have in the near future a custom ROM with equal to original camera performance?
I have the same inquiry as well, but as for what I've been reading so far. It is not possible at the moment or possibly will never happen( I hope I'm wrong with this one.).
Conclusion: You can't have the best of both worlds.
There is a clear big difference between custom and stock rom in terms of camera quality. It's like night and day in my opinion. Although shots taken by custom rom are acceptable but compare to stock, the details and colors are way off when using custom rom. In terms of futurem nobody knows but this issue also exist on other phone. Like Xperia 2011 devices where the quality really degrades when using AOSP based rom though the big issue there is the camera libraries.
I thought only the Z3's use those very special DRM-Codes in the TA-Partition for LowLight and other Stuff? Isn't the rest "just" Sonys Camera Software?
I would love to use CM11, and i think i could live with a bit less low light quality, but as a DSLR owner i want another camera that is good with "point-and-shoot" situations...the Stock Z1 with the superior automatic is perfect for that kind of stuff....
Can't say how much is the difference, since I did not leave the phone at stock for a very long time, but in CM I find the back camera quality pretty good even in dark settings, when the flash is being used (low ISO).
However, when the flash is disabled or the front camera is used in low light (high ISO), the pictures are next to unusable.
I still can't understand what exact part of the camera processing configuration is stored on those DRM partitions and why did Sony, who otherwise support custom ROM development, made such particular decision...
I'd like to lift this thread and ask again, are there any lollipop roms with better or at least the same quality on camera?

You will not find a CM camera that comes anywhere near the quality of stock, sorry. Feel free to keep asking.
Hello, Im thinking of replacing my 1 year old LG G3 for OP3.
I have a question about AOSP roms. When AOSP rom like CM13 is flashed to phone that does not come with pure android some hardware may not work (like radio) or camera isnt as good as on stock based and battery life can be worse.
Is this the case for nexus phones and OP3?
Thanks in advance!
Unfortunately, Yes
CM is not AOSP,
stock rom ( OXYGEN ) is closer to aosp, but with experiences from my previousOP1 and 2, i thinks OOS on OP3 will sucks. CM is better for all Oneplus devices
So for example with CM the camera quality or battery quality will stay the same ?

Battery maybe even better. Camera i dont think so. Usually the camera experience is the best on a stock rom.
I'm looking for a custom ROM which allows me to take photos with the same quality as the original G4 Camera app, without losing quality. Which one should I choose?

You're only really going to get that with one of the stock ROMs. I've been running Imperium since forever and I've never really had any problems with it.
I'm interested too because with Stock Base Roms (Imperium) I get bootloop after a few weeks. Now I'm on Cosmic OS and I'm looking for a good camera
SimpleGX rom is a great one too, no problem at all, I'm still using superSU
Also security patch is updated monthly
Motorola droid camera is good you'll have to go look for it.....

Sent from my LG G4 using XDA Labs
Ok, so I should pick up the Simple GX ROM ? seems like it's the best solution to keep the camera quality

for best stock based.. that is genisys/imperium or simplegx. all are the same in camera... if you want alot of customazation and nougat then AOSP but lower quality on camera.. longer battery life and faster phone.

That's right that aosp nougat roms have a faster ui, but in my experience it slows down after some days of uptime (RR Tyler build).
I back at stock (imperium) for 2 months now, because of this issue.
Anyone else experienced this slow down after some time of use?
If not, which rom you are using?
Thx

true, but only with snap or google.
did you ever try my ported htc and snapdragon ? also they both fix the flashlight problem ,not hitting at the right moment.
personally i don't see any difference. The only difference is in that dam bug on the video , caused by the drivers, and we can't record a video on 1080p

you only get better standby time without the use of xposed and greenify.

stock has alot of services running. and aosp or CM have less. so yes you get more SOT. i get around 3-4 hours in stock base rom. using whats app, messenger and facebook app. and data connection.
What about ProShot on asop rom and it's quality. I have/had LP 5.1 with 100% quality jpg mod and 60fps HD 48Mpbs all the way up to 60Mbps but my andorid was being hacked so now i have to explore aosp roms with latest security patches but when i go on travel trip i want my LP with mods back. V10 camera port has no jpg 100% quality mod, but Proshot does but then again it's not LG stock framework as you guys said so it's quality it's probably still inferior. Thoughts guys ?
Dual boot sounds interesting. Any links for H811 for this?
Hey!!
I'm using lg stock lollipop rom (H815) as there's no update for my model. But my problem is that my battery lasts only 2-2.5hrs in full charge. Even if i don't use my phone, it drops by 20-25% per hour. So is there any way to make my battery life better?
Hey guys.
Just want to know your thoughts about ROM performance in terms of smoothness on different roms.
I was a long time user of tylers RR build and it was really fluid.
Now i am back on Imperium since a month (because of camera) and its overall UI performance is worse that RR.
Can you please give me some thoughts about your experience in UI/ROM peformance on Rom/builds?
thx

Well I'm not surprised you experience worse UI performance on Stock based ROMs, overall in my experience the UI performance in AOSP Custom ROMs is way more fluid and smoother, but the performance in apps is slower than in Stock based ROMs. A bit longer load times, less frame rate's but a more stable frame rate in games and a bit less responsive after a long period of use. For me the camera performance and photo and video quality on Stock based ROMs outweighs AOSP ROMs and that keeps me close to Stock. I have used Dualboot Patcher for a while so I could use AOSP ROMs as my primary ROM and and a Stock based ROM as my secondary ROM so I could still enjoy a fluid and smooth UI and the camera performance of Stock when needed. I really dislike the micro stutters I experience on Stock, especially when I'm scrolling. But I dislike my phone getting slow after a long period of usage even more, which forces me to reboot my phone regularly. So because of that I am running a Stock based ROM as my primary ROM for now.

thx a lot for your feedback!
Thats a good idea with dualboot patcher, but (for me) not really practical
Your experiences coincide with mine!
In my case i also had thermal issues with AOSP roms -> cpu runs hotter quickly than on stock.
Did you also experienced such a behaviour?
Which AOSP rom do you use?
And which do you think has the best (UI) performance?
thx

No problem! :good:
Oh, for me the CPU on AOSP ROMs actually ran a bit cooler and heated up less quickly than on Stock. Although my G4 never really runs that hot even on Stock. And I forgot to mention that I get better battery life both in stand by time and average SOT while running a AOSP based Custom ROM.
At the moment I run a Stock based ROM on my G4 but I have used CyanogenMod till it's end and it's successor Lineage OS which it's pretty much the same but under a new name . I've also tried other ROMs but most of them where based on CM and are based on Lineage OS and they pretty much performed more or less the same. So no big differences.
That's why i do not use any more customs roms...
It's on the decline !
I agree with you !
-camera and video quality lost
-lost performance after a long usage
-lost customer patent and innovation
-lost the pure performance on games
-the modem is not as well as exploited as customers firmwares (sometime bad network quality on customs)
-always minors buggs and sometime big buggs
-near all devellopers wait for Lineage source (Lineage spend 1 year to build an android version and it's never "perfect"....and lots of merges,abandon,clean... on their source all the time,it's never stable and finished)
- on RR,DU...etc....you remove design customizations and you see an empty poor rom
-you loose FM radio function and there never have had effort by the dev for to port an alternative like spirit-fm radio (this dev have had big succes with some very difficult phones ,and som LG)
-you have much more chance than stock to have battery drain with some system process (the main cause of stocks firmwares drain is the google apps ! )
Maybe a custom rom is good for low and some middle-end devices (principaly for to have a light rom.....and hardwares are not the best on these devices ) but completely useless for hight-end device like G4...that's my opinion !
I use a MM firmware + simpleGX 2.0.3 kernel and i'm very happy ! Very good...
