[Q] About External Data - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys, I have some questions about data generating and mainly modifying Google Play billing information, hope I can find answers here...
Each time I open Titanium Backup or Google Play has some update on apps, my external SD Card will generate 2 folders which are "data\com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup" and "Android\data", the second one will have some system apps folders inside suck as "com.android.gallery3d" and "com.google.android.apps.maps". I rooted my G3 and use ES file explorer to manage my files. But I didn't experience such issues in my previous Galaxy Note, which means those apps or system won't generate any app data on external SD Card. Most importantly those app folders (13+ folders) are empty and all 0.00 KB!
It is somehow annoying and I can't ignore it so each time I access my external SD card I will have to delete them manually. I wonder what is the problem and how can I tweat the system so that it won't generate it in SD card again, internal storage folder already contained all those app data folders!
External SD Card's folder (root):

Inside the "Android\Data" Folder:

What? Nobody here can help me? Someone should know...

I think you're a little too much stressed with pretty much nothing to worry about.

As far as I know, "Android" holds application data and ".android_secure" is used for apps which have been saved to the SD card. Personally, I would probably leave both of them alone; if you've got apps saved to SD maybe move them back to internal memory to free up space on the card? Or give up and buy a bigger card
Yes you can delete it, android will build the folder automatically , but all your data will lost (settings, and everything).
I agree with hopscotchjunkie, if you want more space , better buy new bigger sd card.
or , if you dont want to buy, format your sd card. you'll have fresh 8GB with a fresh rom without any data & applications(that store in sdcard).
Yup i thought for 16GB, before I bought this phone.
Now I figured out what are these folders for.
Android secure- to sdcard mowed apps.
Android- downloaded aditional game files.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App

Nandroid Backup & Apps

When I do a nandroid backup it appears to also include the apps that are installed also. Does this mean I can remove the actual apps from the SD Card to save space or does the nandroid backup merely reference the app from the SD Card, therefore meaning I have to leave them where they are?
EDIT: I've just viewed my SD Card on my notebook pc and can't find where the .apk's are located. Where are they stored if I move them to SD?

NANDROID backups EVERYTHING. every setting, shortcut, app, etc.
now what you see on your SD are some files that apps put there - like map application stores downloaded maps, your downloaded mp3 go there etc. NANDROID does NOT include that.
however it DOES include the .android_secure folder. inside this folder there is android app data moved to SD with froyo a2sd (move to SD/USB storage in android > settings > applications) you cannot see this files but they are there. these are NOT apk files, these are some data files. the data files are settings in apps. if you somehow manage to delete .android_secure you would lose all saved games and apps settings (of the apps that stored this info in .android_secure(
.apk files, if present on SD at all, will be on ext partition (invisible in windows) however it only applies to ROM that supports A2SD+ (some custom obviously, and it is there only if you formatted your SD to FAT32 + EXT3/4) NANDROID also includes SD-EXT.
to sum it all up. after you make a NANDROID, yes you can delete stuff from SD - this will only delete whatever app had there (like some fancy ringtones for facebook, downloaded maps of google maps, downloaded voices of SVOX or some game files like levels or sounds etc), but NOT this app settings or login files stored in .android_secure (unless you delete that too obviosly). so in case of restoring a NANDROID you would have your whole internal back + sd-ext + .android_secure. but if you deleted stuff from SD apps would have to redownload it or re-do it. but their settings would be untouched (like 'remember me' in some app login would still work fine)

looking back at your original Q:
yes you can delete stuff from SD now, NANDROID has nothing to do with it. it only backups .android_secure from SD - app settings, remembered login etc.

Warning: Accidental SD card deletion

I did something stupid. I've had my G3 only 2-3 weeks so am not familiar with LG's system. Browsing the internal SD card on Windows (MTP) the internal storage mounting point 0/storage/emulated is actually displayed as a folder on the internal SD: This PC\G3\Internal storage\storage\emulated.
(I confused this folder with a sub-folder I had created myself and coincidentally called the same name.) The folder in Windows shows as empty. I deleted it.
The result: it deletes your entire internal and external SD cards.
I was using stock V20H. (Probably AOSP roms use different mount points ??)
I can't find any thread mentioning this, so I'm posting as a warning.

any way to recover any of the files from it? i need my screenshot folder specifically
I didn't bother trying, but i did find some software that will retrieve lost data (i didn't bookmark it but should be easy to search). Important thing is don't save anything on the sd now because it may overwrite the existing data.

Confused about SD Card

I recently purchased a Tab S 8.4 and have been very happy with the device.
I know that it has limited internal memory, but has an SD slot so I was not worried.
I recently ran out of room on my device between Apps, Google Play movie downloads, etc.
I purchased and mounted an SD Card, but I cant figure out how to set the device to save these Google Play Movies & TV downloads onto the SD Card to save space.
Can someone please guide me on how to best make sure of the SD Card since otherwise the space limitations on the device memory are pretty difficult to manage....
Most File Managers will allow you to find and either move or copy selected files to extSD. If you're rooted I find Root Explorer to be the most useful for me.
Also you can move SOME apps to uSD in System to save space.
Thanks. For me its more apps I need to move rather than files.
I am noticing how few of the apps I am able to move...not just Google Apps but even apps like Flipboard.

Utilising external SD card

After boot I see this entry under my root directory:
lrwxrwxrwx root root 2015-10-16 22:48 sdcard -> /storage/emulated/legacy
I do not understand it very well but it seems the system emulates an SD card using its own memory. Then many applications use this area to save files. The thing is that I have a real external SD Card that I would like all the downloads, music, temp files, documents, everything really to go there.
I have tried to remove the symbolic link 'sdcard' and to make it point to my sd card but I cannot remove it not even as root, read only system, I probably need to use chmod first not sure.
Has anyone done this and know the solution?
Many thanks
The internal storage is emulated as an sdcard.
You can't delete the sym links as they are created upon each boot.
As long as you are rooted you can use your external sd card for whatever you want.
Just point your apps to the right location.

Thank you but I cannot ask all applications to point to the external card. Many applications do not have this setting, either through the Applications Manager or through their own settings. Trying to find files then gets more confusing and every so often I must copy files manually so as to keep them in one place.
Is there perhaps an application that will also run at boot and point to the external card before any other applications start? That might be a good solution?

I have a galaxy tab s and am using Folder Mount and so far (after a few patches the program itself makes with permision) it is working fine for using data files on the storage card.
