Warning: Accidental SD card deletion - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I did something stupid. I've had my G3 only 2-3 weeks so am not familiar with LG's system. Browsing the internal SD card on Windows (MTP) the internal storage mounting point 0/storage/emulated is actually displayed as a folder on the internal SD: This PC\G3\Internal storage\storage\emulated.
(I confused this folder with a sub-folder I had created myself and coincidentally called the same name.) The folder in Windows shows as empty. I deleted it.
The result: it deletes your entire internal and external SD cards.
I was using stock V20H. (Probably AOSP roms use different mount points ??)
I can't find any thread mentioning this, so I'm posting as a warning.

any way to recover any of the files from it? i need my screenshot folder specifically

I didn't bother trying, but i did find some software that will retrieve lost data (i didn't bookmark it but should be easy to search). Important thing is don't save anything on the sd now because it may overwrite the existing data.

Wtf *please help** all data on sd erased

I plugged my phone into my pc and the connection shows as MTP connected.
I then created a folder called Media. I placed my DCIM folder (which was on my external SD card) into Media... AND IT ERASED ALL THE PICTURES...
Has this happened to anyone else?
When I look at my disk space, it's showing as if it was erased (29gb free, it had 26gb free).
This same thing happened with my music (8gb).
Can anyone please help.
Same thing happened to me. I thought it was the AEMod flash I did from CWM right afterwards but yeah, I moved a folder full of apk's I've accumulated over the course of owning Android phones to the external_sd folder using Nautilus (Gnome's file manager).
When I Connect USB Storage to my workstation I get two mounts: 12GB and 16GB. The file manager works fine with the external_sd folder underneath the 12GB mounted device so I didn't think anything of it, but I wonder if you're supposed to only use the 16GB device?
Sux4sure.
I'm really pissed.
Luck I have most of the pics saved on my laptop, but still, makes no sense why if you move folders on your 32gb card intoa different folder on your sd card that it would wipe

[Q] Weird files on external sdcard

So, I've been noticing weirdly-named, zero-byte files on my external sdcard lately. These are appearing in the root of the external card and the /Dropbox folder that contains a couple folders I sync with Dropbox via Dropsync. Most of these files appear to be named "µ". Dozens of them in each directory. Most of them show up with that same name. A few are other unprintable and weird characters.
Any thoughts?

Possible malware? I would backup both sd cards to your PC then format them. After that only put the files back in that you know you need, and the rest will be there if you need them. Remove all those odd files before doing anything though.
You could also try the sd maid app to clean it up.
Someone else posted about this a few weeks ago. I think the extsd was going bad.
The problem was on my 16gb card.
I was trying (again) to get my 32gb/class 10 working with my SGSIII. It still won't work reliably. So, I reformatted the 16gb and copied everything back. We'll see if these files return.
Thanks for the advise.

How Do I browse data on internal memory

My galaxy s3 has internal and external Storage areas, and they both show up on my computer.
On the Play however, only the external SD card shows up on my PC. Is there any way to get the internal memory to show up on my PC?
Not via USB. I don't know any pther solutions, i already tried it via ftp-server, but it didn't work
You wrong understand android device's storage partitions.
1) Internal memory(you havent said about it): Android stored there. Have size up to 2Gb. Partitions: /system, /data(apps installed in "intermal memory", settings), /cache, /boot(kernel and recovery).
2) Sdcard(in many devices included as "Internal memory", on others its SD card itself), mounted as /sdcard.
3) Ext SD(SD card in devices with built-in /sdcard partition. Its your S3 for example), mounted as /exstsd.
---
So, internal memory what you ask about is number one. As i see, you dont know what is it, so you dont need to get there.

Btw if you sure that you need acces, root phone and use root explorer.
But its not storage for your personal files.
Yeah im on about 'SDcard'. Ive used RootEx to look at the 'SDcard' folder but theres nothing in there.

Utilising external SD card

After boot I see this entry under my root directory:
lrwxrwxrwx root root 2015-10-16 22:48 sdcard -> /storage/emulated/legacy
I do not understand it very well but it seems the system emulates an SD card using its own memory. Then many applications use this area to save files. The thing is that I have a real external SD Card that I would like all the downloads, music, temp files, documents, everything really to go there.
I have tried to remove the symbolic link 'sdcard' and to make it point to my sd card but I cannot remove it not even as root, read only system, I probably need to use chmod first not sure.
Has anyone done this and know the solution?
Many thanks
The internal storage is emulated as an sdcard.
You can't delete the sym links as they are created upon each boot.
As long as you are rooted you can use your external sd card for whatever you want.
Just point your apps to the right location.

Thank you but I cannot ask all applications to point to the external card. Many applications do not have this setting, either through the Applications Manager or through their own settings. Trying to find files then gets more confusing and every so often I must copy files manually so as to keep them in one place.
Is there perhaps an application that will also run at boot and point to the external card before any other applications start? That might be a good solution?

I have a galaxy tab s and am using Folder Mount and so far (after a few patches the program itself makes with permision) it is working fine for using data files on the storage card.

Corrupted SDcard formatted as internal

So I first got a message saying that the sdcard was missing. then I found out that it was actually unmounting and remounting itself. And sometimes it would say corrupted as well.
So somehow it fixed itself. So i'm taking the change to get my data out and change to a new SD Card.
What would be the procedure for this.
I already moved all the apps that were on the sdcard to the internal memory.
But still see that there's an Android folder full of app data.
When i plug the phone on the computer am I seeing the internal memory + sdcard or only sdcard?
Can i just copy everything I see out and then replace with a new card, format as internal again and copy the stuff back in?
I already got everything except the android folder, there's like a few thousand files in there so it takes forever to compute the files.... doesnt even start copying.

I am facing the exact same issue. Hope the community supports and someone would answer this thread. My SDcard mounted as internal storage is not mounting anymore , says currepted. I am tons of Data on it. Some apps magically disappeared.
Please help, what should be the next step. If I buy new Card,, is it recommended to mount as External storage instead of Internal Storage?
