Where is the Trusted Device option? - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Moto360 watch. One of the apps I've been using on my Note 4 is called "Delayed Lock." It keeps the phone unlocked when my watch is connected to the phone. Very convenient. Unfortunately, it doesn't work in Lollipop with a Samsung phone. Bummer.
No problem, I thought, I'll just use the Trusted Device option built into Lollipop. But, for the life of me I can't find it anywhere. Did Samsung include the Trusted Device option? If so, where?

You have to activate Smart Lock first by going toe settings>security>trusted agents. Then Smart Lock will appear at the bottom of the security list. Trusted Device is then available along with the other Smart Lock features. For me, the Trusted Locations doesn't seem to work. However, on body does.

Trusted device unlock with pattern unlock?

I just switched to a Moto 360 and miss the trusted device feature of the Gear 2. I have found Wear Aware and SkipLock, but they only work with a PIN or password. Are there any apps that work on non-Motorola phones with pattern unlock?

I use tasker + secure settings but if you want pattern unlock you need to be rooted and I don't think it works with every phone.

Thanks for the quick reply! I am rooted and have tried Tasker, but couldn't get it to work. Could you please share your task so I can import it?

Its just a simple profile based on bluetooth connection to Configure pattern lock.
Here is the link to secure settings: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.intangibleobject.securesettings.plugin&hl=en
These were the instructions i followed to get it set up but this is based on wifi instead of bluetooth.

Thanks again! I do have Secure Settings but I tried to follow a set of instructions for an older version before. It looks like others have had problems getting it to work too, but I'll try again with your link. BTW, this is on a Sprint Note 3 running 4.4.3. I have a T-Mobile Note 4 with 4.4.4 coming, so maybe I'll get it to work on one of them before Android L is released.

One thing i tried was to change the pattern unlock in the Secure Settings settings. Theres 3 modes, default,SQLite, Lock Settings. Mine worked with lock settings but you can test out the others.

Still no luck yet, but I'll keep playing with it. Should I disable my system pattern unlock or should Secure Settings automatically use it? Guess I'll try to figure out how capture logs to debug it.

WiFi is not enabled until Google releases a version of Android Wear that supports it.
The same for NFC, it's active but only limited functionality available right now.

This is great news to hear! Can I ask for the source?
SOURCES
You see here WiFi Ready:
Play Store https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=sony_smartwatch_3_black
Sony Developers Product White Paper: http://dl-developer.sonymobile.com/documentation/whitepapers/SmartWatch3_SWR50_WP_1.pdf
Verizon, Technical Specs http://www.verizonwireless.com/accessories/sony-smartwatch-3/ also in "FEATURES" it states "Wi-Fi ready (these features to be activated after launch, timing to be announced per Google)"
...And I posted official test documents in this forum proving it has WiFi
and the wait is almost over!!!
Been a long time in the making but finally:
Wi-Fi support
With GPS and offline music support, you can already leave your phone at home, then go jogging and jamming like normal. Now Android Wear supports watches with built-in Wi-Fi. As long as your watch is connected to a Wi-Fi network, and your phone has a data connection (wherever it is), you’ll be able to get notifications, send messages, and use all your favorite apps. And if you really do forget your phone, you can always ask your watch where it is.

Is the wifi feature properly working? How will I know if the wifi feature is working? does this mean i can turn off bluetooth on my phone and have the smart watch still work?
The latest update to the Wear app now includes the Wi-fi functionality however, I could not get it to work. Has anybody else had any better luck
You still need to receive the Smartwatch upgrade (watch itself)
It should be out in the next couple of days or weeks. Just keep checking the Sony companion app.
Is there a Sony companion app for the SW3? I normally just check under settings on the watch itself.

yeah for windows though
when I first bought my SW3, I received a firmware upgrade notification. I was able to update it thru the watch itself connected to my phone,

I didn't know there was any NFC functionality yet. What is currently usable for NFC?
I think the only thing NFC on the watch can do is open the app on your phone. Apart from that it's useless.
You can use NFC to pair headphones with your watch, I pair my sbh-80 headphones this way
Has anyone received the wifi update yet?

Thanks. I just found on another thread that it also starts up the watch when it's off. I tested it and that works and is pretty cool that NFC works when the watch is off, though I have doubts there will be many possibilities of using NFC with the watch off.
NFC can be somewhat powered by the reading device, so I thought I'd give this a try to see if it was enough to wake the watch up and power on. I turned my watch off, and tapped it to the NFC location on my phone. The phone launched the Android Wear companion app. The watch and phone both vibrated, and the "Sony" logo appeared on the watch then disappeared without ever finishing booting. I tried leaving it on the phone, and it buzzed a few times trying to start.

Is there any way to fix smart lock's "trusted places" feature

Smart lock's trusted places is a great feature to keep your phone locked while at home but it never works reliably. I had an S8 and was never able to get it working either. I've scoured the internet and tried every remedy I can find. I can get smart lock to keep my phone unlocked for a few hours sometimes but it always fails at some point and requires a fingerprint again even while at home. It works very reliably connected to my car as a trusted device.
Has anyone found a way to fix this problem and get smart lock to work for more than just a few hours? Is this a Samsung issue or an Android problem? I do see people with other devices complaining as well so I'm assuming it is an Android problem.

That's what I thought but this issue has been going on for years. Why can't Google just let us use Wifi to keep the phone unlocked? It would be so simple.
After 4 hours of not interacting with the phone it will require you to use a biometric or pin/password. That's by design. Not sure if that's your issue or not. I use a BT connection as my smart unlock at home, and it works fine.

That's not the issue. It will lock immediately after turning off the screen, and often immediately after adding a new safe area coordinates from the same location....
Do you have location set to high accuracy?
I have it set to high accuracy and same issue. Even after using biometrics to unlock (for example when waking up in the morning) trusted places still doesn't work. Super annoying.
In my S7 edge it worked much better than in this s9. Really super annoying

I have a S7 edge too and on this device Smart Lock trusted places has suddenly become totally unreliable recently (since few weeks approximately).
I'd really like being able to use Wifi instead as @skiddingus suggested.

"Your Phone" windows 10 app

The Galaxy Note 10+ was my first android device in several years. I bought it to play with, intending to return it, and was immediately hooked and sold my iPhone instead. The feature that really sealed the deal for me was the screen mirroring in the MS "Your Phone" app. Yesterday I "upgraded" to the Galaxy Fold, only to discover that the screen mirroring I was so excited by only works on the Note 10+! I'm keeping the fold.. my old eyes just love the size of this device- but I'd really like to have that feature back. Anyone know of another answer that would allow me to use my desktop monitor / mouse / keyboard when I'm at the desk? You think they'll support the fold in future?
I hope they bring this feature to the Fold, I am baffled that it's lacking in the first place. I'd even settle for Dex if that were available.
Working here
The "Your phone app" is working fine here. Might try it again.

The app works, it just doesn't include the screen mirroring feature, that's what I'm lamenting. Or are you saying that's working with your Fold? Could you post a screenshot of that?
Sorry. just photo, messages and notifications here. not screen mirroring
You can do it with Samsung's own Sidesync app. I used to use it with my Note 8. It works flawlessly. Try it.
https://www.samsung.com/us/sidesync/
Install on both your Fold and your windows desktop.

Thank you! Sidesync didn't work well at all, but the installation on the windows side mentioned that it was being replaced by Samsung Flow, which I didn't know about at all. Flow works perfectly, so my issue is solved.
Thanks again.

Question Google assistant: "...yes, but first you need to unlock the phone."

Hi to all,
I have encounter a boring problem with op9 pro paired with bluetooth headset (more than one).
every time I said on assistant by my bluetooth headsets (aftershokx aeropex, oneplus bullets wireless Z) any commands like "call mom" "open garage Stefano" "turn on stairs light", and so on, assistant telle me to unlock phone first (????). On assistant the option of "personal results on lockscreen" and the one relative to bluetooth devices is activated, but: "[...]yes, but first you need to unlock the phone.".
on my op7 pro i try same commands without any problems. So... which is the problem?
It's very boring, expecially driving, unlock the phone to use it to make a simple call or to open my garage door.

This is not the solution... Is a workaround that I don't want to use for security reasons at work.
Don't use the screen lock.
Treat your phone like your hand and you don't need it.

Try clearing Goggle Play Services data.
Clear system cache.
Try a network reset (can't hurt).
You may have to delete/recreate the account if nothing else works.
Play with it... eventually you'll get it working.

You can try contacting Google tech support. Occasionally they can be quit helpful... if they choose to.
A Bing search etc may yield better results.
I really try to keep my use of Google apps to a bare bones minimum.
I don't trust them... they earned it.
here is how i solve similar problem that not exactly the same but when i ask google assistance to turn flashlight for example it ask to unlock the screen 1st
