I just switched to a Moto 360 and miss the trusted device feature of the Gear 2. I have found Wear Aware and SkipLock, but they only work with a PIN or password. Are there any apps that work on non-Motorola phones with pattern unlock?

I use tasker + secure settings but if you want pattern unlock you need to be rooted and I don't think it works with every phone.

Its just a simple profile based on bluetooth connection to Configure pattern lock.
Here is the link to secure settings: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.intangibleobject.securesettings.plugin&hl=en
These were the instructions i followed to get it set up but this is based on wifi instead of bluetooth.

Thanks again! I do have Secure Settings but I tried to follow a set of instructions for an older version before. It looks like others have had problems getting it to work too, but I'll try again with your link. BTW, this is on a Sprint Note 3 running 4.4.3. I have a T-Mobile Note 4 with 4.4.4 coming, so maybe I'll get it to work on one of them before Android L is released.

Still no luck yet, but I'll keep playing with it. Should I disable my system pattern unlock or should Secure Settings automatically use it? Guess I'll try to figure out how capture logs to debug it.

From ICS, if you want to use VPN, you have to set pattern/pin lock, it's very inconvenience, today, I found a ICS bug which can remove the pattern/pin lock after you setup the VPN.
My device is 4.0.2, I'm not sure if it works on later version.
Steps:
1. Set pattern lock
2. Set your VPN and save
3. lock the screen, and press power button, the screen shows pattern unlock points, try a wrong pattern 5 times, then system will say you may forget the pattern and you will be blocked to try for 30 seconds, and then a new option "forget password" will display in the button.
4. click the "forget password" button, use google account to unlock it. it's done.
Now, check you VPN setting, it's still there and you can use it normally. Again, lock your phone and press power button to open it, the unlock method changes to normal instead of pattern.
Enjoy it!
Found a Known Issue: If you reboot your device, the VPN will be losted again, you have to redo all steps above. It sounds like untethered jailbreak
Works!
Thanks! I've been looking for a work around!
It works for my HTC One X also!
great! i'd like to test on my 4.0.4

Excellent! This is what I was looking for, thanks. Just tried it on my (not-yet-rooted) One X with 4.0.3 works like a charm.
Have to add: You probably do need a working network connection to check and validate your Google account. I tried it offline and I didn't get in.

So simple yet so effective. Thanks sooo much for this!
This only worked for a day. It then asked me for credentials password to use the vpn. Since there was no password it ended up deleting the vpn. Sooo annoying, back to square one.

Actually, I found that if you use a Password, instead of a Pattern, to lock the screen initially, you can use the same Password to re-access your VPN settings when prompted for your credential password.

Thanks!
Works on my Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray (ST18i) phone!
Doesn't work with 4.1.1
I just tried this with my Galaxy Nexus running JB 4.1.1 without success. I get the wait and try again in 30 seconds screen but no forgot password option. I can however make an emergency call so there's that.
This is stupid, I can't even think of a reason why you would need to select a PIN just to setup a VPN on your own device. Come on Google your starting to act like big brother [email protected]!
It works! From jb 4.1.1
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I can't get mine to work after a reboot. Asks me for a password for cred storage, and I can't get a password to work.
Tried:
Using password and resetting - can't because it never says forgot password?
Using password, setup vpn, change to pattern, resetting - after reboot it doesn't like my original password, I think it knows it was a pattern
Any suggestions? Is it possible to type in a pattern as a password maybe? Tried using corresponding numbers for nodes on the pattern... no luck
-Edit: On Nexus 7, 4.1.1
I have FoxFi and FoxFi must use a VPN/Credentials storage. This disables the pattern lock. I can re enable pattern lock by clearing credentials however than I have to go through the process of disabling it every time I use FoxFi. Is there a way to have both?

I'm sorry that I don't have an answer for you, but can I ask how you clear the credentials so that you can change the screen lock method? I'm using fingerprint and it works fine with Foxfi, but sometimes I like to just use swipe and I can't choose it (its greyed out). I have gone into "Trusted Credentials" and manually removed the FoxFi credential under the User setting (so that user setting is now blank), but when I try to change screen lock to swipe, its greyed out. What am I supposed to do so I can choose any of the screen unlock methods, not just the ones FoxFi allows?
I apologize for hijacking your post and you don't have to answer me if that upsets you. Thanks anyway.

Just bought a G3 off contract to replace my beloved S4. I use FoxFi on a regular basis and there was a pretty simple work around which allowed me to use the application without requiring a pin for my lockscreen. I tried to do the same work around with the G3 to no avail.
Has anyone been able to use foxfi without having a lockscreen?
Thanks

I know it's not actually answer on question but i hope it can help.
As i saw, this application can share internet and same option you already have by default called something like hotspot.
Almost all bank applications also require pin screen. The most of the time, after first usage you can remove screen lock and they will continue to work without issues.

Right, it is a mobile hotspot app. It requires credentials to use. There was a way to remove the need for those credentials on my S4, but I can't seem to figure out a way on my G3.

I cant go back in there and change it unless i remove all credentials.
These threads have info on how to bypass the credentialing each time. It worked great on the GS4 but I have not been able to figure out how to do this with the G3.

I can't get Smart unlock to work with safe places. I've set my home address, which shows fine in the list of safe places, and it shows correctly in the map. But the phone keeps asking to be unlocked even if I'm at home.
I've tried rebooting it, turning off and on the location... Location seems to be working fine.
Any advice on how to make it work?
High location on? Noticed battery saver won't unlock it. Haven't tried GPS only..

Well I tried that, but it's not letting me since it says that location has been already added, and I can't remove it, only turn it off.
One thing I've realized is that every time I reboot the phone I get a "Google play services stopped working" error. Could that have anything to do? Even after saying that, if I go to running applications it shows there, so I guess it just starts itself after crashing.
BTW whrn i installed the lolipop update I did a full factory reset.
EDIT:
I cleared the Google play services data and rebooted, this time it didn't crash. However safe places still are ignores and my phone keeps locking when it shouldn't

That's the feature I wanted from lollipop after leaving my Nexus 5.. Ive done just as a suggested.. Weird. Only other thing I'd try is to disable smart lock and a lock screen code, then setup through smart lock again.

My smart lock works intermittent. I would say a quarter of the time the smart lock operates. It's a shame, it's a really nice idea.
Wait, I may have found a possible solution http://forums.androidcentral.com/an...-lock-trusted-places-not-working-anymore.html
Update: Yes, uninstalling Google play services updates and then reinstalling updates followed by a reboot solved all my issues.
smart location has issues its not very accurate so if you want it to work at your location you'll have to add areas surrounding your location
as per Google's recommendation if smart location does not work try adding your location via pin tips.
Hi, I didn't want to start a new thread. My smart lock feature stopped working around 2 months ago and I already tried everything (except for a factory reset) and I can't get it work. Neither trusted device nor places work. I hoped that the recent AT&T update (installed it yesterday) would help, I deleted all trusted devices, wiped the cache partition, added bluetooth devices again with no luck.
Any idea how to get it work? I do not want to factory reset just to find you it did not help. Thank you.
It didn't work for me before, the recent update fixed it.
I downloaded the 8.1 OTA build OPM1.171019.011 from Google and installed via adb sideload. After reboot I noticed that the lock screen requires authentication every time. Looking at Smart Lock (Settings>Security & location>Smart Lock) there is no option to add a smart lock option, the screen is completely blank.
I have been using Smart Lock with Wear (Currently LG Urbane) for years, and the watch is currently connected.
See attached screenshots.
TROUBLESHOOTING
I have unpaired, factory reset and repaired the watch
Rebooted the phone
Haven't gone down the rabbit hole of phone factory reset yet, trying to avoid it of course.

I used the official OTA, not the full image, and not the beta, so shouldn't require a factory reset after the load.

Go to Phone Information and enable the following sliders
-VoLTE Provisioned
-Video Calling Provisioned
-Wifi Calling Provisioned
-EAB/Presence Provisioned (Only if you use SIP calling accounts)
Once I exited the menu by backing out, the options were immediately available again.

Thanks! Much better support than Google, they didn't have a clue, just wanted me to reset the phone--their go to solution which is crap.
I followed these tips which got Smart Lock working for me again, however, after some time Smart Lock becomes disabled again. At that point if I go to Smart Lock in settings, I see just a white screen with no options. Is anyone else seeing this?
Edit: following the steps gets it to work again, for a while, but not permanently
