Smart Lock broken in 8.1 - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

I downloaded the 8.1 OTA build OPM1.171019.011 from Google and installed via adb sideload. After reboot I noticed that the lock screen requires authentication every time. Looking at Smart Lock (Settings>Security & location>Smart Lock) there is no option to add a smart lock option, the screen is completely blank.
I have been using Smart Lock with Wear (Currently LG Urbane) for years, and the watch is currently connected.
See attached screenshots.
TROUBLESHOOTING
I have unpaired, factory reset and repaired the watch
Rebooted the phone
Haven't gone down the rabbit hole of phone factory reset yet, trying to avoid it of course.
Anyone else seeing this?
Completely Stock Software
Never been rooted, unlocked
Purchased through Best Buy
Carrier is Verizon

Wow thats weird.. its showing up on mine, I adb flashed 8.1.

Wow, same issue here. Sideloaded OTA last night...
Stock, Project Fi...

Just noticed it now as well. Sideloaded via ADB, because I didn't want to take the beta from my notifications.
Is the common denominator here all that we dirty flashed?

I used the official OTA, not the full image, and not the beta, so shouldn't require a factory reset after the load.

Same behavior here. Official OTA ADB sideload.
I do have the option to set up a face unlock, but no BT device or GPS option any longer.

Figured it out.
Settings>Security & location>Trust Agents>Disable Smart Lock
Back out to home screen, then enable Smart Lock as a Trust Agent again.
Smart Lock is available again.

Can you post some screenshots showing your update version, and that smart lock works? Going to have some transcript snippets soon from a Google Support Chat Convo. Want this for ammo to prove them wrong.

Google Chat support stated:
I have checked the details and I would like to inform you that its the new feature improvement with the update. You will not find trusted agent and trusted device options on your device instead you would find trusted face options with the update.

I only have (in this order)
Mobile Data
Roaming
Data usage
Preferred network type
System select
Access Point Names
I'm Verizon, fully stock. Only dirty flashed from Nov sec patch to 8.10 via ADB sideload
Funny thing is, it shows in the search results when you search for it in Settings- but if I touch the result, nothing happens.

I did just now. Did the airplane mode toggle and a reboot, and still no luck. I'm thinking I'll download the full system image, and remove the -w in the flash-all.bat and see if it makes a difference.

Was able to resolve the issue by doing the following:
Go to Dialer and enter *#*#4636#*#* this will bring up the Advanced menu
Go to Phone Information and enable the following sliders
-VoLTE Provisioned
-Video Calling Provisioned
-Wifi Calling Provisioned
-EAB/Presence Provisioned (Only if you use SIP calling accounts)
Once I exited the menu by backing out, the options were immediately available again.

i managed to get smart lock to work with deactivating trust agent, going to home screen and re authorizing the trust agent...
but now my Gmail, T-mobile app, Google app, all constantly crash upon using them.... SMH

This seems to have worked after a restart. :good:

factory reset fixed all my constant app crashing issues..

Confirmed! germanmarky's suggestion to turn off Smart Lock as a trusted agent combined with lyric911 reboot suggestion did the trick.
Got all my smart lock options back and now voice unlock is working again.
Thanks! Much better support than Google, they didn't have a clue, just wanted me to reset the phone--their go to solution which is crap.

I followed these tips which got Smart Lock working for me again, however, after some time Smart Lock becomes disabled again. At that point if I go to Smart Lock in settings, I see just a white screen with no options. Is anyone else seeing this?
Edit: following the steps gets it to work again, for a while, but not permanently

Trusted device unlock with pattern unlock?

Its just a simple profile based on bluetooth connection to Configure pattern lock.
Here is the link to secure settings: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.intangibleobject.securesettings.plugin&hl=en

Thanks again! I do have Secure Settings but I tried to follow a set of instructions for an older version before. It looks like others have had problems getting it to work too, but I'll try again with your link. BTW, this is on a Sprint Note 3 running 4.4.3. I have a T-Mobile Note 4 with 4.4.4 coming, so maybe I'll get it to work on one of them before Android L is released.

Still no luck yet, but I'll keep playing with it. Should I disable my system pattern unlock or should Secure Settings automatically use it? Guess I'll try to figure out how capture logs to debug it.

[Q] Using Pattern Lock with VPN/Credentials

I have FoxFi and FoxFi must use a VPN/Credentials storage. This disables the pattern lock. I can re enable pattern lock by clearing credentials however than I have to go through the process of disabling it every time I use FoxFi. Is there a way to have both?

I'm sorry that I don't have an answer for you, but can I ask how you clear the credentials so that you can change the screen lock method? I'm using fingerprint and it works fine with Foxfi, but sometimes I like to just use swipe and I can't choose it (its greyed out). I have gone into "Trusted Credentials" and manually removed the FoxFi credential under the User setting (so that user setting is now blank), but when I try to change screen lock to swipe, its greyed out. What am I supposed to do so I can choose any of the screen unlock methods, not just the ones FoxFi allows?
I apologize for hijacking your post and you don't have to answer me if that upsets you. Thanks anyway.

now go to your phone and use the new pass to unlock the phone.

Smart unlock safe places not working?

I can't get Smart unlock to work with safe places. I've set my home address, which shows fine in the list of safe places, and it shows correctly in the map. But the phone keeps asking to be unlocked even if I'm at home.
I've tried rebooting it, turning off and on the location... Location seems to be working fine.
Any advice on how to make it work?
High location on? Noticed battery saver won't unlock it. Haven't tried GPS only..

Well I tried that, but it's not letting me since it says that location has been already added, and I can't remove it, only turn it off.
One thing I've realized is that every time I reboot the phone I get a "Google play services stopped working" error. Could that have anything to do? Even after saying that, if I go to running applications it shows there, so I guess it just starts itself after crashing.
BTW whrn i installed the lolipop update I did a full factory reset.
EDIT:
I cleared the Google play services data and rebooted, this time it didn't crash. However safe places still are ignores and my phone keeps locking when it shouldn't

Thanks for all your help!
That's the feature I wanted from lollipop after leaving my Nexus 5.. Ive done just as a suggested.. Weird. Only other thing I'd try is to disable smart lock and a lock screen code, then setup through smart lock again.

My smart lock works intermittent. I would say a quarter of the time the smart lock operates. It's a shame, it's a really nice idea.
Wait, I may have found a possible solution http://forums.androidcentral.com/an...-lock-trusted-places-not-working-anymore.html
Update: Yes, uninstalling Google play services updates and then reinstalling updates followed by a reboot solved all my issues.
smart location has issues its not very accurate so if you want it to work at your location you'll have to add areas surrounding your location
as per Google's recommendation if smart location does not work try adding your location via pin tips.
Hi, I didn't want to start a new thread. My smart lock feature stopped working around 2 months ago and I already tried everything (except for a factory reset) and I can't get it work. Neither trusted device nor places work. I hoped that the recent AT&T update (installed it yesterday) would help, I deleted all trusted devices, wiped the cache partition, added bluetooth devices again with no luck.
Any idea how to get it work? I do not want to factory reset just to find you it did not help. Thank you.
It didn't work for me before, the recent update fixed it.

keep losing money and can't find the source

Ok so for some reason my phone keeps making a phone call everyday to some weird number and I can't find how it's doing that.
The phone number isn't even showing up in my recent calls but in the end I see that I'm losing 0,30 every day sometimes even twice on phone call
I looked up which apps have permission to phone but can't find any thing suspicious. Also looked up the phone number but again it's not listed anywhere.
Is there someone else experiencing this as well, is it some kind of virus?
I tried contacting my provider but they can't do anything all they say is block the phone number but even if I block it I still managed to lose money on it
short answer:
Titanium backup - only backup the only few necessary apps like the game you are in middle or chat messenger.
Factory reset if phone is not rooted. Wipe and flash a new rom if its rooted.
There are virus/spy apps/adwares doing things like this and some of them hide itself well (fake into some system name) it is hard to teach you how to catch it if you are not familiar with android framework and system etc.
Don't worry about it, just give me your credit card details and I'll check it out for you...

If by some chance you have contracted an ETD (Electronically Transmitted Disease), I would say a clean install, of just about any ROM, should fix it up no worries.
Maybe check your APN settings? Mine reverts to some stupid APN every now and then which seems not to include my data plan.

You said you couldn't find the number to which calls are made. Then how did you manage to block the number? Are you sure it is due to 'call' and not due to some SMS or internet usage? Turn off mobile data for a day and also delete/change the message centre number by dialing *#*#4636#*#* >phone settings> SMSC. This would prevent all SMS from being sent and you'd also receive a notification like 'failed to send message'. This could help you to figure out the issue more clearly. If nothing works, insert the SIM in some other phone and check.

Question Google assistant: "...yes, but first you need to unlock the phone."

Hi to all,
I have encounter a boring problem with op9 pro paired with bluetooth headset (more than one).
every time I said on assistant by my bluetooth headsets (aftershokx aeropex, oneplus bullets wireless Z) any commands like "call mom" "open garage Stefano" "turn on stairs light", and so on, assistant telle me to unlock phone first (????). On assistant the option of "personal results on lockscreen" and the one relative to bluetooth devices is activated, but: "[...]yes, but first you need to unlock the phone.".
on my op7 pro i try same commands without any problems. So... which is the problem?
It's very boring, expecially driving, unlock the phone to use it to make a simple call or to open my garage door.
