[Q] Camera with purple fringing - ok to send to HTC for repair with S-off/root? - Verizon HTC One (M7)

Hi guys,
So my trusty M7 finally started exhibiting the infamous purple fringing camera defect after close to two years. I thought I got lucky and got one of the original good ones, oh well. I've been busy with school and unfortunately haven't had chance to keep up with the M7 xda developments since I did S-off and root with the original exploit. I've been running the stock verizon ROM - never updated (blocked OTA update) because I need foxFi and I thought the more recent updates (kitkat) killed or crippled tether/foxFi operation.
Two questions:
1. I'd like to have send my phone to HTC to repair the camera module. A friend who did the same last fall had his phone updated to kikat and the latest official ROM. However, his was completely stock when sent in (no s-off or root, stock recovery). Is it wise for me to send in the phone as is to HTC? If not, what steps should I take?
2. I'd like to keep my existing ROM for the sole purpose of keeping FoxFi/tethering fully operational and trouble-free. Am I being completely nonsensical - do the more recent Android builds (kitkat and beyond) from Verizon really kill FoxFi/tethering?
Ideally, I'd love to have the camera repaired and keep my S-off/root status. Is this possible with sending back to HTC?
I did a search on the topic but didn't find an exact answer. If I missed it, I apologize in advance. Trying to finish grad school, and unfortunately just don't have as much free time to keep up with all the cool stuff at XDA as I used to be

I don't have any answer for you, but would like to know myself. The purple tint is the only reason I'm considering getting rid of my M7 soon.

Return to stock and lock/s-on. HTC may give you a different device, they may change the board out. If you send it in stock with s-off, it may invalidate the warranty on a worst case. If they honor the warranty, they will run their ruu and turn s-on anyway,, so just save yourself the trouble and do it yourself to avoid invalidating the warranty.
Edit: when you get your phone back, you can s-off with Sunshine and then use the old ruu's to return your phone to the old stock Rom and firmware.

My roommate sent his phone in for HTC to repair it. The CSR said for him to send it in and if they deem the camera issue is due to H/W malfunction they would repair it at no cost. He sent it in and it took over a month for him to get contact from HTC on whats going on with his device. He tried online chat, email, phone calls, and no one could give him an answer about whats going on. Another month goes by and he gets tired of waiting so he went onto his claim ticket and checked the box saying "just return my device". This is when he started to get emails, lots of emails, that they want him to pay $250 for the repair because it is out of warranty. I had him do another online chat with HTC and tell them, on htc twitter account they posted a tweet (that is no longer available) that the fix they had for the camera was software and that it WILL fix the purple hue issue. After about an hour or so the CSR wouldnt confirm HTC would fix the device so he requested for it to come back, as is and he would get just go insurance route. Another month passes and a box showed up from htc. It was his phone, or we thought it was. He hurried up and activated it and proceed to see if they fixed the issue. Once logging the IMIE into sprint site, it came back saying the phone was a Black HTC One m7 (the device is grey). Not a big deal, and we didnt think anything of it and tried out the camera. Camera worked great, and still does but now he is seeing the screen lifting off as if they forgot to glue it back down. you can almost separate the screen from the body with a finger nail or guitar pic. HTC wont offer to repair it because in the system it shows he declined the repair and wanted the device back. (they had to do something to the device because the IMIE is for a black phone not a grey one)
now i have the purple hue issue on my phone. I dont have a back up to let them have for 3 months as they figure out what parts they can pull to put into it. so i wont be dealing with their repair center. to much hassle to maybe get the phone fixed.

I find it VERY hard to believe in your story. (Trying my best not to sound negative... lol) Because I was one of the first people people to get the M7 and I got the Purple Hue as well. From the day I sent me phone, to the time it came back repaired at my doorstep... it was about 10 days. Including shipping. My HTC rep online was so helpful and helped me send it in with ease.

When did you send it in? Everyone has different experiences. If you read up in the international One section, you would see his story isn't too far fetched. If you used an unlock token or sent it in s-off and/or unlocked, they can in fact deny warranty claim and try to charge you for a new motherboard. (That is where the $250 charge would come from).

I did S-On when I sent it in, I'm sure that made my process a lot smoother. This was about exactly a year ago. My purple issue wasn't horrible at first, but it progressively became worse so after like 6 months of suffering I sent it in.

Well,, if you sent in shortly after the m7 was realised, HTC said up and down it was software for quite awhile. You must have sent it in after they admitted it was hardware.

it was easy because it was in warranty. Mine and my roommates are both out of warranty. Even though HTC did say they would fix because they acknowledged it was in fact hardware related. I was like pulling teeth to get it done. I understand they will be fast for warrantys but the could care less if you are out of the 1 year range.
My roommates phone was never S-off or dev unlocked. he still has it 100% stock (which is weird to me) and HTC still did what they did. I guess you need to catch the right CSR on the right day or you could end up like he did. I'm not trying to persuade you not to do so. i just wanted to share the experience he had. When i couldnt get HTC to tell me they would without a doubt fix mine for free i gave up. I do have bestbuys insurance and i get a NEW device if i pay the 150 delectable. So i might wait till the last month i have on contract and pay the delectable and get the new device.

Appreciate the feedback. I haven't contacted HTC yet. My phone is obviously out of warranty (got it aug 2013 I think), though I was banking on HTC taking care of the repair for free since it was a hardware defect. I don't have access to a backup phone, and at this point, I am starting to think it's not worth the trouble to send it in :-/

its worth a shot if the devices isnt your main device. wait till you upgrade then contact HTC and have them fix it. i wish i could remember where i saw that they accepted it as a H/W problem so i have proof but i cant. only the part where they said S/W would fix it. :/

I said it. It is in the device F.A.Q. I will look up the support call as all calls are recorded for legal purposes. I will edit this when I get home and look up my ticket number for you.

synisterwolf and uzephi thanks guys for the input! Got the PM uzephi. I'll definitely give this a shot whenever I do upgrade, although that might not be until August or September. The M7 is still pretty sweet even now, despite the camera issue. Honestly, if I could put in a new battery, I can see myself using the M7 as my main device for at least another year if not more.
Going on a tangent here, but it looks like I may have to with the mixed reviews of the M9 so far. I am guessing Qualcomm really messed up with 810 this time around...

Warranty Still Good?

My sister recently ditched her Droid Incredible in favor of a Iphone 4. (blasphemy I know) The reason being, The power/sleep button no longer works. Since she no longer needed the Incredible, she gave it to me! I've been enjoying having a Android device to play around with but the lack of the power button has been killing me. I have not turned the phone off in over a month and have to use a tweak that wakes the device with the trackpad/volume buttons. Now here is the question. She had a warranty on her Incredible that goes up on the 25th of this month. Can she still replace her old Incredible even though she is Using a white Iphone 4? By the way, She wasn't scheduled for an upgrade to get the Iphone, instead she stole the upgrade from my brothers line and somehow applied it to her line. Just putting that out there in case it helps. I'd like to have her phone replaced so i can start rooting the device and flashing custom ROMS to it. I am also learning Java so I can develop for Android, thus, I really need a future proof Android device that won't conk out on me for testing any apps that I plan on making. Thanks for any help!

As in take it in to a store? I was hoping we could just mail it in. Our last experience with the goobers at the verizon store was not enjoyable at all. They are usually noobs who only know how to do a factory reset...

TBH they may give you a different phone instead of the droid incredible there hard to be found except from like craigslist or something and i dont think there making them anymore since the inc2 came out...

Just got my 2nd refurb from verizon 3 days ago.
Called Verizon about an hour ago... They gave me a number for HTC, and than HTC gave me another number for their warranty and repair shop. Which won't be open until Monday. So I guess I'll have to wait and see what happens....

Doesn't sound like you are getting a warranty replacement. Sounds more like a warranty repair you're going to have to pay for but I've never called in for warranty personally.
call verizon and if the warranty is still good they usually will next day you a phone

HTC Have Failed us? Last HTC Device

Well, there is a lot of information around this part of XDA about how many faults the HOX has, not just little faults that effect a few users, but major faults that have effected whole batched of HOX's.
Now, all devices are going to have faults and "bad Batchs" but its how your provider deals with those faults, that make the difference.
The way HTC has dealt with the HOX's issue, have made me think that this will be the last HTC device I ever purchase.
Around 2 weeks ago, I was going back and forth with e-mails from HTC. It's like they didn't even read my e-mails, as though the used the "Find" function and just searched keywords in the e-mail, if those keywords came up they copied and pasted something in response.
This isn't good enough in my opinion, but it gets worse. Even after I had said that you clearly are not reading my e-mails, which makes the issue ten times worse, they then replied with the same response as my first email, which confirmed my theory.
Then, after I refused to send it to HTC over the "WiFi" fault, due to the amount of storied I have seen where the devices have come back far-worse than when they were first sent.
THEY THEN AGREED AND SAID LAST YEAR THEY CHANGED THEIR REPAIR CENTRE!! WRONG!! I had now been lied to.
Just looking for others opinions, do you have any "GOOD" storied about HTC and their support?
Anyone had an experience like me that has totally put them off HTC for good?
Should I just stick with my device and live with the WiFi fault, or should I take the plunge and return my device for repair?

send your device for repair and end of story....if you want your phone to be fully functional then send it away and end of the matter....same thing would of happen with your car...if there is a fault you send it in and you are without a car for a few days..same with the phone...do not know what is the issue here really..yeah you are not happy with the way they are responding to you..but get on the phone and call them instead of emails....speak to your network provider and send your phone to them instead of HTC then...I know this will be my last HTC phone but at the end of the day i still love my One X and yes i send my phone for repairs and it took longer than i was told but when i received my phone back i never had any issues...
I think that one of the most important things to have in any service provider is client support.I think that this is strange I was thinking (theoratically) that a company like HTC would have a good support ofor clients,but after what I heared I'm surprused and a little bit disappointed....but if you please cab I know your country for better knowledge,and why you didnt try to make a call to.the support center in your country??! :screwy:

Firstly, it's not true that entire batches were affected by faults, that's a blatant exaggeration. A small fraction of devices with similar serial numbers have similar problems.
Secondly, there appears to be a few cases where sending off for repair didn't work out too well for people, but again, a small fraction.
A small fraction of a small fraction is very small.
If you refuse to have your faulty device repaired, then really, you forfeit you're right to complain about your faulty device.
I don't care which phone you buy next, and I'd be surprised if there is anybody else who does.
If you want sympathy, talk to your girlfriend, mother or another female friend, or possibly a shrink. You won't find much here. If you want help, it's been given to you; send it in for repair.

-i can accept that some procent of an entire production can have problems, but in this case things got out of proportion. Cases like 10 exchanged One X's are confirmed on this forum. I even saw a post where someone said he exchanged 22 devices.
-i for one have the third One X now, and now someone from HTC tells me that is normal to receive a refurbished device. Even if i paid a fully working one, and it's not if i have used the device for a year...it has been faulty from the first day.
-the One X is a dezaster as QA and this attitude twords clients is a bigger dezaster

How are you blaming HTC? You could have sent it, decided to be stubborn, and now you're complaining about the outcome of your own actions.
My HOX works fine. Other than them being slow in the update, just fine.

As expected, this thread is another *****fest.
The guy with the ten devices story is very sketchy. Anyone getting 10 devices in 2 months from one place is either the most unlucky person in the world or doing something to break his device (like the "SQUEEZE IT TILL IT BREAKS" aka the wifi test). Someone getting 22 devices is twice as sketchy.
Here's how it works kids: if you get a faulty phone, take it back. Get a new one. If that is faulty, maybe do the same, or move on to another device. Whining after breaking it attempting a squeeze test or effing it up with a bad flash is your fault.
You maybe right, let's discuss my case then.
First device, yellow spots, screen flex & ripple. I contacted HTC support, they told me that the retailer will exchange my phone on the spot. That wasn't the case. The retailer didn't accepted this so i sent the phone to the repair shop, got the rezolution for a new phone and then got a new phone at the retailer.
The only problem was that the retailer had only faulty devices. I contacted HTC support from there, i got another device that i was told to ship to the repair shop and i will get a new one from them.
I did that, and not only the device i received is faultyer than the first two it is also refurbished.
I contacted HTC on 22 August first regarding this, the only response i got is to resend the phone to be repaired. I can not accept a refurbished device. If someone else can accept it that's their problem.
And from 22 August i am only beeing postponed with escalated, reescalated cases.
Wouldn't you ***** about it ?
HTC Don't care about their customers, why should I pay so much for something, then have to be without it for a month so they can fix it?
I probably will send it off to them, but for the hassle and time spent without the phone, it isn't worth sending it to them.
My phone is very important to my work aswell so again, this isn't just effected me in one way.
I am blaming HTC for not even reading my emails, and sending out phones with faults, I'm not blaming HTC for the fact I won't send it back.
Also, it isn't just one case that have been sent back in much worse conditions, and I never refered to any one case as an example, as these examples of HTC are all over the internet.
AND AS I SAID BEFORE ALL DEVICES ARE BOUND TO HAVE FAULTS, ITS HOW YOU DEAL WITH THE FAULTS!! AND HTC DONT DEAL WITH THEM WELL !

That's exactly what happened to me.
When i first bought my One X i thought i had a faultless device but after a month or two i realized that it had a faulty pixel, so i went ahead and sent it to repair and guess how it came back?
Faults before sending the device:
1) Faulty pixel
2) Screen flex/ripple when applying slight pressure on the edges of the screen
Faults after sending the device:
1) Screen flex/ripple when applying slight pressure on any place on the screen
2) Recent apps button doesn't light up while the others do (Back and Home)
3) The device makes a crackling sound as if the screen didn't fit into the device correctly
4) The wifi fault
So basically they ruined it instead of fixing it. I've sent it back to repair hopefully they'll fix it this time.

Same here - although I had issue at start with the tilt sensor failing, but got it swapped straight away via my carrier (O2 UK), and have had no problems with the new one since.
I had problems with my old Samsung Galaxy S when I first had that (think it was the third one I had that didn't bring a new issue), so there will always be a risk of teething problems with first batches.
All in all, been very happy with it, even more so than my old Galaxy S in that I don't feel the need to root this one to change the Rom to fix failings with the device!

That is exactly my point, which is exactly why I don't want to send HTC my device, as the only fault is the WiFi and to be honest I can live with that, but to send it to your company for a fix, and recieve a worse device back is un-acceptable, and to recieve a "re-furbished phone" is again unacceptable.

That is nothing to do with HTC though, you took it back to your carrier, who sorted to issue for you, so HTC caused your issue, but HTC had no involvement fixing it!
Also I forgot to mention that the repair center refuses to acknowledge the screen flex as a "flaw" and they claim that it's present on all One X's although this video proves otherwise youtube.com/watch?v=MiTUIBOSVTU
the title of your thread is misleading
To be fair its the repair centers contracted out by htc that are letting everyone down. If htc actually repaired the phones themselves then it might be better.
They do need to sort out those repair centers who are returning them unrepaired etc

Mate, you're in the UK and you're with Voda. What's your problem? Is the phone from Voda? If it is I'm pretty sure they'll sort it, their retentions and support are epic. If its not, where's it from? You're covered by your standard 12 month warranty and if you're still not sure you're also protected under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 which superceeds any terms in a manufactures warranty AND lasts an additional FIVE YEARS!!
Really, I expected better from a senior forum member. Throwing your toys out of the pram is no way to set an example to newcomers and personally I'm sick of all these "Blah blah blah HTC are a bunch of hopeless c*nts." threads. If you're that upset, sell the thing, buy a Samsung and f*ck off!

My hox is perfect, though I bought it in May.
I had much more troubles with atrix 4G and desire.
So for now I'll stick with hox and my next phone will be probably htc, though I pay no attention to brand, i just choose the best

Warranty claim for unlocked boot loader...DENIED

Hey all. Just to share my experience with you guys. Have a One X Malaysian unit, purchased in April, unlocked in May. Sometime two weeks back, noticed very weak Bluetooth and WiFi signals. Reverted to stock using the latest 2.17 RUU, confirmed it was a hardware issue. Sent it back to HTC on Friday and got a call from them today.
Basically, they confirmed the problem was a hardware issue, but as my unit had it's boot loader unlocked, they said warranty was void on the motherboard.
I asked if the unlocking of the bootloader could have caused his. They said they could not ascertain if it did.
I then asked why was it stated on the HTCDev website that unlocking MAY void warranty, but no details are given on what part of the warranty is void. The rep could not answer.
I understand if I OCed and burned the cores or something, but WiFi and Bluetooth failures are a defect. So I then sent an email to HTC Taiwan explaining the situation, have yet to receive a response. Let's see what transpires.

i really wish htc would get a huge fine for this blatant con they're trying to pull.
it's illegal in many countries. for instance in the uk, if the fault occurs within 6 months of purchasing, its upto HTC to prove that you caused the fault or they have to repair.
htc have admitted this design flaw, so how they can even consider rejecting your repair on the basis of an unlocked bootloader is RIDICULOUS (HTC I hope you're reading this - your policies are ****ing stupid and you REALLY need to reconsider them, using somebody who has a brain, preferrably)
Please please please, DO NOT give up. DO NOT go off the phone, or leave them alone until they agree to fix THEIR design fault for free.
Rule 1 of sending a phone back to manufacturer: Lock the bootloader up again. At the end of the day HTC are a corporation, and will do anything they can to make sure they don't have to replace faulty units. This is why the EU have so many consumer protection laws, to stop this happening.
Not sure where you can go from here though, perhaps you can take it back to the store you purchased it from, and get them to replace it?
Relocking the boot leader wont help. They still know you unlocked it.
Tell them they had better have proof you damaged it or you'll commence litigation. What they are doing is illegal.
@OP I had the same issue. I waited 2 months or maybe even longer in the hope that a RUU for my phone would pop up, which it hasn't. I'm not sure if it's out now but i don't need it anyway.
I was on arhd 9.2.0 and got sick of my faulty unit, so without second thought i went to my provider with an unlocked bootloader and custom rom on my phone, sent it in and had it sent back to me two weeks later completely fixed. My warranty was not voided, they were even did a factory reset.
But then again, i live in europe and our laws help us. Just like with mobile internet, every contract now has unlimited data, due to the fact that anyone who would exceed a certain limit ended up paying a hefty some. Glad we have this internet issue out the way too

I really wish people would stop repeating this nonsense. The responsibility lies with the retailer, not the manufacturer.
Scare the rep using strong legal words, and say you asked some of your lawyer friends and stuff like that so you can speak to a higher person, remember to speak professional and don't use unpleasant/raging behavior and the rep will hopefully consider your situation and try to help.
I once bought a laptop at a large retailer and dropped the laptop and broke the screen the first day, and managed to get it replaced by speaking the to manager of the customer service although it was against the warranty, they're human after all and business is not always just business
Scan the WiFI HARDWARE FAULT thread for useful posts. Try going through an alternative service center. I got mine rejected by one service center and I got it fixed from another service center.

Only nonsense i see is the one you are spewing. Have you ever installed windows 7 over vista,xp, or something alike?
Imagine how ridiculous it would be if you install windows 7 and your desktop is under-warranty and they will tell you you're not allowed to have your phone repaired because you installed a newer OS. Damn right - ridiculous.
I've sent in my HOX once before due to earjack problems (something stuck inside?).
I sent it in directly, unlocked, custom ROM, faux' kernal.
They fixed it for me and even replaced my battery for free!
They then returned my phone, stock, locked(not relocked).
And the IMEI number changed as well, basically a new phone.

In the UK your statutory rights are with the retailer NOT the manufacturer.

I know about the bad WiFi signal. I'm just sharing my experience with regards to HTC customer service. It's an authorized unit sold by an HTC appointed distributor, relocked and reset using the latest RUU. However, the status on the boot loader will show RELOCKED instead of LOCKED.

Well, it seems another thread blaming Htc brand.
Look. I love the HTC brand, been a fervent supporter for the past 2 years. I'll give credit where credit is due. So please refrain from being presumptuous of the purpose of my article. Again, I'm waiting to hear back from HTC to see what their stand is. If they change their minds, at least other HTC owners who are in the same predicament as myself may have a chance of getting some fair treatment.

I have a similar problem, i have yellow spots on the screen, and the service center denied the repair becose of the relocoed bootloader.
What we need to do is to find a way to make the bootloader say locked instead of relocked and everything will be ok.
I used to own a Galaxy S 2, that phone had a counter for custom roms, if you wanted to claim warranty all you needed to do was to reset the binary counter using the usb jig or a apk called triangle away.

Mate, you give your point of view about your problem, and I am giving my point of view about your post that in fact is what I said. So ifI you asking for respect for your point of view respect my point of view. As you say you are waiting for a reply so I do not understand why you post if you have not got an answer yet. I would see logical your post If you got a reply but you got not yet.
My One X suffered from bad screen fitment out of the box (creaking, screen moving up and down inside the casing...) and I unlocked/rommed it before I noticed the flaws.
I relocked the bootloader, installed the 2.17 RUU, and sent the phone back to Germany (as it was bought in Ger and I live in Croatia) to get it repaired, they accepted it and repaired, it's on its way home now, should be here tomorrow, took 3 weeks to repair.
One big plus for HTC Germany (when it gets here and is fixed, that is).

I had a similar story, my HOX suffered bad wifi signal, and then unroted, relocked, sent to HTC and get it bak repaired for free. But it was on Spain HTC.

HTC Warranty Process

So I have an HTC One from Verizon that is having issues with the camera; it won't focus on anything more than a foot or so away.
I've tried alternate camera apps, and it doesn't fix the focusing issue.
So, I'd like to send this phone back under warranty. How is HTC's repair process? When they can't repair a phone (which they should be able to do), they will replace it with a refurbished phone.
So, I can either send the phone in to HTC, in which case they will probably repair it and send it back. If they are not able to fix it, which is unlikely, they will give me a refurbished version. I consider this option risky, because I either get my phone taken apart and

If you read the camera thread, it becomes clear that people are returning their device multiple times and a number of them are getting a LITEON brand sensor that has a green tint.

The process is really easy. I just got mine back on Wednesday. You won't get a refurb...you'll get your phone back. And, if you have any gaps or anything like that in the build of the phone, they'll be gone too. You won't have to return it multiple times if you go through HTC (using a Verizon exchange you might since they'll give you a refurb...maybe that's what this guy is talking about?) If you're s-off and unlocked, just relock and remain s-off.

The worry is that HTC will replace the camera with a bad sensor or something like the other guy said. I don't want to have a green tint on my camera after I get it back.

Device not rooted or hacked in any way. (It''s actually my girlfriend's phone)

I definitely don't have any green tinting. From what I've seen, most people have been pleased with the results. I haven't seen the thread the other guy is talking about though. Here's a low light pic after repair.

Late to the party...
I'm having the same issue and I went onto HTC's site to start a live chat session to get some info on repair/replacement process, but the chat window doesn't work in Chrome, Firefox, or IE. I then tried to use the email support form and that failed in all browsers too. Can anyone help supply info as I would prefer not calling in?

Camera purple/blue/red tint problem

Hello all,
This problem occurs when taking pictures when there is less light. From what I have read the only way to fix this is to send the phone to HTC for a hardware repair. However, I had bought this phone second-hand from someone online. How could I use the warranty now? Please advise.

The phone should still be under warranty. Just get on a chat with HTC and get a repair ticket set up and you'll be good to go.

They should since it would be within the one year. I don't think selling a phone breaks the warranty. If you get on a chat with them they'll ask you for your info and worst case scenario is they tell you no.

Yes, I bought mine off of Craigslist. They didn't even ask me if I was the original owner. It is under warranty and they fixed my camera issue without any problems. Took almost exactly 2 weeks to get the phone back from the day I sent it.

I'll leave it at that for now. I raged at their chat for about 30 minutes before I got offered 2 more options.
I had HTC repair my camera and not only did they expedite shipping (standard overnight) the camera looks great now when taking pics, The phone looks perfect just like I sent it in. Looks brand new. The actually changed the motherboard and put a new sticker with all the new info on it.
I called them, ask if they could do something more than standard ground and had a prepaid label in my email about an hour later. I brought the phone to fedex saturday morning, it shipped to htc by monday morning 9:30am and was showing in repair at 11am then an email around 5pm that it was done and setup for fedex pickup. Received it at 230pm today.
I think their service and repair was outstanding.
I've been waiting to send my M7 in for this camera issue but now that I've picked up the M8 I was thinking about just selling it as is. It's rooted unlocked with s off.
So I did some Googling in order to get an answer as to whether I can send my phone in for this fix without getting it back unrooted/S-On.
From what I've read it seems to be hit or miss.
Anyone reading this sent one in that was S-Off, only to have it come back stock/S-On?

If you send it S-OFF, technically you are breaking the warranty. And that would REALLY suck for you, cause you would be without a phone for about 2 weeks and it would come back in the same condition, AND you wouldn't be able to fix it anymore afterwards. So you kinda gave birth to 3 birds with one womb.
I S-ON'ed mine when I sent it in, and luckily since this was within a week or 2 of 4.4.2 coming out, they only flashed 4.2.2 (I think. This was like 8 months ago. Whichever version is currently rootable). I would suspect that now, your phone would come with 4.4.2 + Sense 6.0, which is not rootable.
I'm considering flashing a stock rom, then doing a faux h-boot that indicates s-on and removes the unlock/development red text from the startup image.
I just worry that they might have a flash stock rom/recovery step that they do regardless of what is on the phones that get which would lock me up with an unrooted phone once I got it back.
