[Q] Root HTC One M8 with Android 4.4.4 installed - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
So, I decided to root my device when I found that after 4.4.4 update, hboot was updated and the command:
Code:
fastboot boot some_custom_recovery.img
so I can boot a temp recovery was disabled, I would like to ask, will actually flashing a custom recovery using:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
work? If after flashing a custom recovery then flashing SuperSU then flashing stock recovery, will I be able to get OTA updates? And what is the worst scenario here as I have read that people get stuck with boot loops and other problems here and there?
Thanks in advance..

Yes you can flash custom recovery,SuperSU and than flash back to stock recovery and still take OTA's .now you wouldn't want to change anything else like write permission sdcardfix app as it will modify your platform.xml and an OTA will fail for that

[Q] latest update question

Hi all,
I'm on 4.4.3. I did the full conversion on my at&t m8. I s-off and completely rooted with twrp recovery.
I'd like to flash the 4.4.4 ruu but i think that's going to wipe my phone, it did last time at least. Is there any way I can flash it via recovery so I wont lose my data? Is there any other option?
I enjoy stock unmolested vanilla android, I shouldve gone with a GPE version, but its initial investment was just too much
Manually flash the OTA after you've flashed the stock recovery from the 4.4.3 RUU

seems easy enough? can u provide a quick how to or share a link?
1. Extract the stock recovery from the 4.4.3 RUU and flash it using fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
2. Download the OTA package from the OTA thread in General
3. Copy to the phone
4. Boot into the stock recovery
5. Select to flash the update from SD card
6. Choose the new OTA
7. Profit
You can then flash TWRP re-root the phone

[Q] Stock Recovery image backup, how ?!

recently, i updated to lolipop, i want to back up my stock recovery.img file, for later OTA updates.
because i want to root my phone and install TWRP, please i need a simple way to keep may stock recovery img file.
thank you
HTC ONE M8
You don't need to back it up. When the new future ota is out you download it, install it later and get the firmware zip out of the ota zip and take out the recovery.img out of the firmware zip. That's the stock recovery. So no need to back it up now.
Lollipop has brought back the ability to boot into TWRP. You can boot TWRP, root then back up recovery and boot with flashify.

[Q] Getting back to stock recovery

Hi ! I just unlocked bootloader of my phone (Micromax Canvas A1 with Android One) yesterday, flashed a Custom CWM Recovery and Rooted it. But now, I want to get back my warranty by unrooting it. I think the following steps will work in getting back my warranty:
1) Unroot Android
2) Flash stock recovery
3) Relock bootloader
I can unroot and relock the bootloader on myself. But I don't have stock recovery image for my phone. Can anyone here provide me the Stock Recovery image file for this phone?
Moreover, I have one more Canvas A1 handset which is completely in factory mood (and so under warranty unlike my rooted Android one phone ). Is there any way to create a flashable rocovery image file from this phone?
Anyways, I will be very happy and thankful if only anyone could provide me the Stock Recovery Image file for this phone .
Thanks in advance !
Here's the stock recovery link which I had uploaded: http://www.mediafire.com/?cr10jbo9f6gnh32 (rename it to recovery.img)
You'll need to flash it from ADB mode (you need unlocked boot loader in this case) or just flash using SP Tools (v.5.1424) (if you need scatterer file, ask me)
Actually, flashing stock recovery and locking boot loader does not give warranty back.
However you'll need stock recovery to flash lollipop update when arrived.
To get warranty back, you need to download complete stock ROM and flash it using SP Tools in firmware upgrade mode to reset the flash counter.

HTC One M8- Backup Stock Recovery For Future OTA Updates? 5.0.1

Backup stock recovery for future OTA updates?
Hello,
I am currently on lollipop 5.0.1. I am looking to root the device and install TWRP as my go to recovery. I have being advised to backup my stock recovery so I am able to go back and update via OTA in the future.
I am unsure what the process is to backup stock recovery, any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Your stock recovery will be in the next update. When being notified you download it but don't install it yet, take out the recovery.img from the ota.zip and flash it before you actually install the full ota.
No need to back it up now.
as an alternative to the above (which works just fine btw)
on the M8, you can boot into TWRP instead of flashing it
Code:
fastboot boot <name of twrp>.img
that will get you to twrp recovery, while the stock recovery is still on the phone, from there you can do a nandroid backup

Mate Se Back to Factory stock?

I'm rooted with frp unlocked and so on with oreo. I need to go all the way back to out of the box stock setup to download the latest updates. I'm on oreo and have a ton of reading but I need to be guided into a set of instructions to get this restore done.
Please help.
Thx!
Via magisk uninstaller, uninstall and your boot will be fine
Also, you can flash stock boot and recovery to be on full stock
Will this allow me to relock and do ota updates? Basically I need to be able to use the factory recovery partition incase of failure. Currently due to the unlocked phone the use of the recovery bricks the phone. And where can I get these stock recovery partitions at?
Doesn't matter if your BL is locked or unlocked. As long as you have stock recovery and stock boot, you will be able to install OTA
Can you e plain a bit more detail? Thx! How the process should go
What are the commands for stock boot and recovery images through the recovery screen. The white screen that shows bootloader and frp status.... And possible link to those specific files would be great.
Erecovery? How to reflash?
