[Q] Galaxy Nexus Charging Issue - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I had a samsung galaxy nexus for sometime. I was having a charging issue and followed a solution to lift the tongue of the charging port. Unfortunately, I did it too hard and broke the tongue. Being in India Samsung repair centers refuse to fix the thing. Left it idle for three or four months. I found a market in delhi where a guy replaced the port(PS - He was a professional). But unfortunately it still does not work. The port is fixed but the phone is still not getting charged. The glass on the top was broken but the screen was working fine. Today I tried plugging it to my computer and computer made a weird alert noise and an alert of uplugging a device. I am so much in love with this phone. Can anyone help me with this problem? Any solution will help. I you guys cannot help me then maybe no on can.

Hmm. Sounds like maybe you should try taking it to a more upmarket shop. I had this problem (though I didn't actually snap the tongue), and I took it to a repair shop and they fixed it. Maybe the problem isn't just the tongue, but something else.
Also, it sounds simple, but have you tried a different charger?

Maybe you need something like that:
"Samsung Galaxy Nexus i9250 USB Charger Charge Charging Dock Port Connector Flex"
I can't post links so you have to search by yourself.
I changed it today because my GNex always showed "charging" although it wasn't plugged in.

Why don't you try to use a different charger?

Crazy charging / battery issues.

A few weeks ago I decided to take the plunge and root/unlock my Gnex. Installed Team Kang AOKP Release and then recently updated to Milestone 4. I am running the GSM Version on Tmobile. Originally as yakjuxw and flashed to yakju before rooting, etc.
Has anyone else run into problems with the Galaxy Nexus charging? It seems to have been progressive. About a week ago my phone randomly started turning the screen on and showing the 'charging' icons and animations as if the phone was plugged in. Then A few days ago I had to play with the plug for it to begin charging. Earlier yesterday, I've reached a point where my gnex would only charge if its off. If i plug the Samsung charger into the phone, the battery screen displays "Not Charging" as opposed to the "Discharging/Charging", so its my guess it knows the charger is plugged in but cannot charge the battery for some strange reason.
It seems im not the only one.
http://groups.google.com/a/googleproductforums.com/forum/#!topic/mobile/RahZtFg39DU
I've contacted Samsung and they are aware that this is happening and have offered to take my phone into repair under warranty but that would require sending my phone off for 2 weeks, so i'd like to try something else.
As pointed out by the last poster in the google thread, squeezing the charger seems to fix the issue but just for a couple minutes. Does this have to do with the contacts/usb charge board/plug?
I have the same problem, but I have root on mobile and I did not cover the guarantee in Samsung
supumaster, the galaxy nexus is a phone that is very easily re-locked and un-rooted. do some searching online. you can 'get your warranty back'
I had the exact same problem, tried everything and nothing worked, finally sent phone to UK here's more info

It sounds like liquid damage to me.
Look really closely inside your charging port for anything green/white, especially toward the very base of the pins. Also, look at the charger itself for any green/corrosion on the pins. If you find any, dip a toothbrush in some denatured alcohol and scrub your charging port.
Works like a charm.
Normally. I'd agree with you, but if you check out that google thread chanchan posted above, hundreds of galaxy nexus users are experiencing the same thing. So either this phone is EXTREMELY prone to moisture damage, or there's something very very wrong.
I had this issue for a day or two at the beginning of February. It disappeared by itself and hasn't returned since.
I had the same problems, specifically it wouldn't charge on some chargers (my car charger), and it would think it was plugged into USB when it wasn't, the lightning bolt would light up, and the screen would never go into full sleep.
I went through a whole lot of that thread, and lots of other people having the same problems, one sugestion was to get a toothpick and stick it in the phone's USB plug and lightly bend the 'tab' up towards the screen. so, i did that, and it fixed all my problems.
likely the tolerance between that 'tab' and the bottom of the plug are so tight, having a USB cord pull on the 'tab' makes some of the data pins short out on the metal surround of the plug. bending it back makes it 'unshort', and work like it's supposed to.
i would highly reccomend being VERY careful with this if you attempt it, i'm guessing its VERY easy to snap off that 'tab' in the plug and ruin your phone.
if this happens again on my phone, i'm sending it back to samsung or verizon to fix.
So I seem to have temporarily corrected the problem with the toothpick trick. I can't advise anyone to do the same as the chance of breaking is probably pretty good. Will let you know if the problem returns.
In other news, I'm on hold with Samsung. I've just been informed that the New York based company that I purchased my Gnex device, is actually not a US device and they will not provide any sort of support for it. If i want support I have to contact UK division of Samsung and all repairs would have to go through them.
I am just f***** livid right now.
I had this problem for a couple months. Now even the toothpick thingy no longer works.
Can no longer get USB data connection. Computer keeps saying "Drivers fail to install" or somesuch. Sometimes it manages to charge via USB, no luck via the wall charger...
Time to send it in. Been a Nokia user for 10+ years, no issues that required it to be sent off for repaired. Super disappointed. Google should get someone else to build their Nexii series...
I have this issue every now and then. It goes away after a reboot.

I've this problem too. My nexus always gets stuck on 97-98%, and the battery screen says "Not Charging". So, somewhere on some forum I've found this trick and works fine for me.
Just unplug the charger and then plug it in again after waiting for 10sec, it will gradually go to 100% in 5-10mins and the status will change to "Charging" from "Not Charging".

This issue has nothing to go with watter i believe. It was only an excuse for Samsung support guys as this happening way too often and they decided to blame us instead of Samsung.
First time this happened to my Galaxy S II when there was no rain oustside and watter damage was near to impossible. Now this happened to my GNex while i had a flu and were in bed for last two days. Watter? Nah, i felt poor but never pissed on my self nor on my phone :-D BTW, GNex started to charge again when i plugged in an HTC charger. So i'd rather blame charger/charging port quality and not the watter.
Don't take this as a fix but I managed to make the problem on mine go away by gently bending the connector inside the USB port with a pair of tweezers.
So it kinda hints at a contact issue with the connector. Could have stemmed from using non-Samsung provided USB cables and chargers...

[SOLVED!](Q) Help! Phone showing it's charging when unplugged...

Since this morning my phone says it's charging when in fact it's unplugged. I tried cleaning the charging port, wiping cache, full wiping and reinstalling the rom, everything and don't understand why it'll never get off charging state.
I do check in settings while unplugged it says not charging and when plugged in says charging, but it's stuck saying "on battery for 23 min" and the icon never stops from charging....
Any suggestions? It's really annoying... Never had a single problem with my One S...
SOLUTION: Clean the charger port with a hard pointed object (that's what she said), make sure you clean and dirt or particles from underneath the middle piece in the charger port.
Also, if you notice the middle piece is too close or making contact with the bottom, use the pointed object to CAREFULLY bend it up a little.
Do all this while the phone is off and battery out. Use compressed air if available. if you wet it then completely dry it before putting the battery back in.
did you try wiping the Dalvik cache when you did the regular cache?

A LOT of users have reported this problem, yet Samsung claims it is water damage and won't do a warranty repair: http://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyNexus/comments/tqlii/samsung_refusing_to_honor_warranty_for_infamous/
There is already a thread on this which has some useful info:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427539It ranges from yep your charging port is f*cked or it just needs a clean and little tweak.
To get mine fixed I gave it blast with compressed air and a little needle to make sure all the lint/gunk was out of the port. I made sure the port was straight (if it looks like it is bent downwards slightly, try and pop it back up softly). Then what fixed it for me is to hit it with a little electrical contact cleaner.
I have a feeling the port was getting shorted by something as each of the pins on the microusb port are very close.
Hope that helps
Interesting - I'll have to keep an eye out for something like this on my phone.
I guess first step is the compressed air blast with a needle cleaning of the port. If that doesn't work then on to Samsung to see if they'll honor a warranty repair (outlook not good on this - apparently they claim water damage). Worst case you can get a replacement OEM charging cable off ebay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-Charge-...440?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item33746d1eb8
And fix the faulty part yourself or have someone you trust do it.
[EDIT] here's a link to ifixit for step by step instructions on how to take your phone apart http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung-Galaxy-Nexus-Teardown/7182/1#.T7pzI8XdOII
Thanks to all the suggestions, it does the same thing even after wiping, installing other roms or going back to stock. I tried cleaning it with a toothbrush but will try with a toothpick or something stronger. Will give updates once I do.
I would suggest the electrical contact cleaner is going to be a good bet too. If it is water damage, it could just be a bit of water has gotten in there (from a table, rain etc) and then when its dried impurities could be shorting the plug.
I am not sure what stores in the states have it (maybe bestbuy?), but we have an electronic store here called Jaycar which sells it. You could even just slip in and give it a quick spray in the isle.
Turn the phone off before doing it, and make sure it is ECC!
Fixed! It was the charger port. All i did was clean it out with a metal pointed object. I also noticed the middle piece was touching the bottom edge. It could've been making false contact. So i bent it up just a little and voila problem solved.
Hopefully this thread may further serve as future reference. Thanks everyone for your help!

I know I don't have a Galaxy Nexus, but the Nexus S can also suffer from the same problem. I believe it's because of the USB ports that are the same.
Inside the USB port of the phone there is a flat plate which slides into the wall charger/USB cable, I've noticed that when this is "bent" down it will show that it's charging when it isn't, so all you need to do is to find something (I used the tip of the missus'one plastic nail file) to "bend" it up about a millimetre or two and all should be fine.
Worked for me, so I thought I would try to help out here because I know how infuriating it can be.
I had this problem a couple of weeks ago. I also had issues with being unable to connect my phone to a computer. I contacted Samsung, explained my issue and they sent me packaging to send it away. It took me 45 mins to get the computer to recognise my phone to return it to stock, but i managed it. I then wrote a nice little letter explaining the issue, that others also had the issue and that I recommended changing the whole charging board.
I got it back a week later and lo and behold, they'd taken my advice and fitted a new charging board. Now it might just be me, but the inside of the micro USB port looks slightly different. I just can't put my finger on why.
Hi, I had this problem but i sprayed "metal cleaner" on a toothbrush and wiped the contact and now it works fine again :3
This happened to me yesterday. First the phone doesnt charge, it was at 25%, After that i charged it with phone turned off, then turned on and battery whas 50% but still not charging. Turned off again, plugged the charger and it looks like was chargin, when i turned on again it was at 12%, like the charger just discharge it xD. After that the problem began, the battery icon shows like charging when unplugged....
Looks like i managed to clean it with a needle, now the chargin notification is gone, and i can transfer files via USB to my laptop, but still i cant charge with AC :-/
And when i plug the usb cable, the notification icon comes again :-/
OMG Thanks it's alive it's alive
After some time my charge port started giving me issues again. I tried messing around with it but all I did was break it. Eventually I bought a replacement flex cable and ended up installing it myself. Very easy to do. Looked up a video on YouTube and in 10 minutes my phone was charging again.

I had to replace my micro usb charging port
When my phone wouldnt stop charging after being disconnected i ended up solving the issue by going here for the part and tools which is $5 posted.
ebay(dot)com.au/itm/Replacement-Charger-Port-Flex-Cable-Tools-Samsung-i9250-Galaxy-Nexus-GQFC441-/180922260932?pt=AU_MobilePhoneAccessories&hash=item2a1fce9dc4#ht_1368wt_1014
And i used this guide to pull my nexus apart.
ifixit(dot)com/Guide/Repairing-Samsung-Galaxy-Nexus-Micro-USB-Charge-Port/9641/1
Just be very careful on step 6 "Some have reported the cable is soldered to the mainboard. This was not the case on this CDMA version. It may be soldered in newer revisions or the GSM model."
I broke my volume down because the guide didnt have a warning !
I hope this might help anyone else who is having problems

[Q] Another "Phone says charging when not plugged in" issue. But what to do about it.
So its the same issue as others have. My phone charges sometimes and can get a connection to the pc but sometimes it gets stuck in "Charging" even when unplugged (Only if it was actually charging completly wireless. )
The phone is in perfect condition and it really sucks to have an issue like this.
I contacted samsung. They told me they would repair it but that means id be phoneless for 6 days. (The horror) . They also said I go head over to verizon and they could 'Fix the pins' in store. I dont like verizon and I worry they might freak out if they see if have Jellybean.
I also have the option of trying to repair myself. I could open up the phone and possible fix the pins or Order the replacement USB Board (http://www.ebay.com/sch/Replacement-Parts-Tools-/43304/i.html?_nkw=galaxy+nexus+usb) ... Im capable of doing all that as Ive repaired several phones before just not my precious galaxy nexus. And I worry is all.
What should I do?
There was once one thread how to fix the problem by cleaning the charger hole or what the heck it is with piece of paper or I don't know..

The same thing every other thread has said:
1. Clean the port and/or ensure the pins aren't incorrectly positioned inside of the USB port and aren't damaged.
2. Make sure you've tested using a fresh, clean install of the stock ROM.
3. If that doesn't work, get a warranty/insurance replacement
4. If you cannot do suggestion #3, replace the USB board in the phone.

[Q] N7100 Suddenly Won't Charge - Ideas?

Hi all, I'm pretty lost here. My Note II (N7100) suddenly won't charge. Earlier today it charged just fine. I've only ever run stock with root on it. It's not the charger, it's not the cable. I've tried many of both, all of which worked before, none of which work now. I flashed back to stock recovery and did a factory reset, and the problem persists.
When I plug it into a charger while off, briefly a gray battery screen with what looks like a stationary 'wait spinner' will pop up and then the screen will turn back off again. I know the USB port is not totally FUBARed, because I can flash it with heimdall in Linux. It shows up in lsusb when in the bootloader, but not otherwise. The port is pretty much spotless, especially compared with that on my GNex, which still works fine.
I've tried leaving the battery out for an hour, holding the power button, etc. It almost seems like a problem that could be solved by discharging some capacitors, but battery pulls always solved those on my Galaxy Nexus.
Any thoughts on other things I can try?
I can't even figure out how to contact Samsung support in case this is somehow a warranty/hardware issue. At least on their US site the N7100 isn't even an option in the pulldowns they want me to go through.
After some calls to Samsung USA and Canada, I gave up. Apparently the phone is from the UAE, for which Samsung USA has no phone number, and their repair centers won't touch it if it's international. This is really stupid and I plan to write to Samsung about it. It had only been three weeks since I ordered it, so I am returning it to the Amazon seller for a refund. I'll let them deal with their supplier in UAE I guess. I hate to do that, but it seems to be a hardware problem and I have no other recourse at this point.
I cant really help here but i wanted to let you know i had the same problem with a white note 2 from Carphone Warehouse in the UK, just stopped charging after owning the phone for 2 days (i had also only rooted and running stock rom).
Carphone warehouse replaced the handset for me and havent had a problem with the new one so far but its made me take extra care when plugging or unplugging the usb cable ( i use Airdroid for file transfers now). I guess there must be a defect with a limited few usb ports on the note 2.
I thought it might be a 3rd party usb cable to blame (i use a blackberry usb cable at work but ive stopped that now and only use the official Samsung cable).
Sorry i cant help just wanted to share my experiences, hope you get it sorted, good luck!
Thanks for chiming in Steve, good to know I'm not the only one. I saw another post on here like that too, maybe it was yours? There was no discussion. The strange thing is ODIN worked just fine. Maybe a loose connection only on one/both of the power pins?
Nah it wasn't me mate, I had just put it down to me being heavy handed and thought nothing more of it till I saw your post.
I've seen a post in the Jellybam thread today about the charging being down to software but I don't know how true this is as i've yet to check the facts.
Did you manage to get it replaced? I remember it was the worst feeling in the world when the realization hit that my phone wouldn't charge.

Yeah I just invoked the Amazon.com return policy, sent it back for a refund, and ordered another one. It was supposed to arrive today, but apparently UPS had some kind of mechanical issue and now it's delayed until tomorrow. I just need it to get here before my next month's Verizon plan bills so I can cancel before paying another month.
Sorry to drag up an old thread but this has just happened to me, EXACTLY the same as OP.
I've reset it, wiped everything, re-flashed latest stock firmware. Tried 3 different cables and two different chargers.
Pretty sure the battery is good because if I take it out of the phone and charge it on the dock, it works fine. If I then put the battery back into the phone, the phones works in every way except it wont charge
I have most of my digital life on this thing, I am so screwed without it. Look like its a warranty repair job then? Ive had the phone about 3 months from Phones 4U :crying:

Happened to mine to T-mobile version. Never dropped it, never got it wet, only 1.5 months old.
WTF? Seriously?
Behavior:
Charges sometimes.
Charge sometimes stops at 70% or less.
Screen sensitivity screws up sometimes.
Data constantly being transmitted whether WiFi or cell network.
Never dropped.
Never wet.
Never harshly impacted.
Never rooted.
Tried factory reset.
Tried pulling battery.
Tried different chargers and cables.
Wondering if the trident aegis case put too much pressure on the charger cable by pushing it sideways with the flap.
Any ideas?
Hardware problem.

Check in the box, and if you have an EROS Group sticker on it that means it's covered under warranty here in Dubai, UAE as they are the main distributor here for Samsung products.
Sent from the rabbit hole.
This happened to me yesterday after spilling tea on it. I took the device apart as per this video, checked the connectors and reassembled it. Voila, the charger is working again. Obviously I take no responsibility etc etc.
My Samsung Galaxy Note 2 wont charge
I have also had this problem where my galaxy note 2 wont charge. I have tried all the chargers i have used successfully in the past and none of them will charge it now. I had the problem some weeks ago and now it has happened again. I only purchased the phone in January 2013. It is very frustrating. I have never dropped my phone or damaged it in any way what so ever. I have no idea what the problem could be but i will be taking it back to Telstra as i need it sorted out.
Same problem here - is this a generic problem with the Note 2??
I always put my phone on charge overnight , woke up yesterday and it hadn't charged. Swapped batteries - no problem - then put original battery back in, hey presto, charging!
But since then both batteries have run out and I couldn't get either to take any charge. Got it plugged in now and just like other people I've got a static charging ring showing, And no power.
Bought an external charger to try and get round this, but has anyone come up with a proper solution??

Strange...
a mate of mine just mentioned to me today that his note was charging strangely recently, apparantly he took an air gun (on low setting) to the charging port to blast out any miniscule dust n stuff and that fixed it!
Seems they're very sensitive and the smallest thing can make it act strange

[Q] Odd charging behavior

I have a 2 month old note 8, not rooted, stock apps etc.
A week ago I noticed the tab was not charged even when I left it plugged. Eliminated apps I installed that day. Checked different chargers and cables (I used original note 8 and note 2 chargers, with various cables). No effect. Decided to factory reset. After the reset, n8 charged again. Then not again.
Over the last week, the device would charge sometimes, sometimes not.
When I plug it in, it doesn't charge immediately sometimes - sometimes I've to leave it plugged for a few minutes before the charging is recognized. Sometimes it charges immediately.
The micro usb port recognizes otb. Can read/write too.
Anyone with a similar observation?
Have you tried a different charger? Different cable? If yes, and you still have the problem, your port is probably bad.

my girlfriend had the same issue with her Note phone. having booked a time in with the samsung store service team, they then replaced the usb port for free and the phone was ready in just over an hour.
I was very impressed with the service.
Before leaving it in for service, you could simply try the following (have successfully used it on several different devices thus far)
1. Power down the device
2. Use a unused and DRY toothbrush to give the USB-port a thorough brush to remove possible dirt and built up oxides.
3. Connect the charger while the device is still powered off and check whether the battery-charging-icon shows up on the screen within a couple of seconds.
Samsung replaced the unit. Good for me.
Not a painless experience though as the people in the main Samsung office and the service center do not communicate with each other very well. Had to inject myself into the email conversations between them to simplify and clarify what they needed to do to help me, the customer.
@cybriks - the service center actually took out the part in question and tested it - it was indeed defective. Thanks for the tip - I use the same for cleaning all other USB ports of my other devices.
