Just bought this Nexus 7 2013 from a friend for my 3 year old son. He had a Kindle 1st gen before it, and loved it. This is, the rom I had on the kindle had a permanent nav bar on the bottom that he was used to for switching in between apps. He's not going to understand having to hit a toggle or swipe down or up or whatever to make the nav bar re-appear. Most apps are fine, but the ones that do take up the whole screen, he will be stuck on. I bought this tablet from a friend, and it's got PA 4.6 Beta already on it. So I don't know if reflashing to stock will fix this for me or not. Any ideas?

I think you are experiencing the new "Immersive Mode" Of KitKat. If You are on PA, you could enable the PIE controls.
I don't know how to completely disable it, but if you are willing to downgrade form Kitkat to a lower version ROM(JellyBean), It will be removed.
I Think The Stock Rom that came with the N7 was 4.3, so Yes, Reflashing Stock would disable the Immersive Mode.

Yes, I know it's been brought up quite a bit...
This is really bugging me. I had the original Kindle Fire and put ICS on it and loved it. The Honeycomb-style user interface rocks. I bought a Nexus 7 thinking that I'd be able to put it into that mode with KitKat (the point of owning the Nexus # is to have the latest and greatest, right?), but have found myself unable to do so.
Is there any way possible to enable this on 4.4? I'm running into a gap on this discussion; most stopped talking about it about a month ago it seems. AOKP? Do I have to copy and paste the tablet UI code from 4.2 into 4.4?
This is Android. ANYTHING is possible. I know it has the potential to be done.

I was under the impression that google removed the tablet UI from kitkat altogether.
I thought I wasn't going to like the phablet UI but I got used to it, and now it just makes sense to me on a tablet this size. I say give it a chance, you might grow to like it.
I hate it, i'm forever catching the navbar when typing in landscape or passing the device to a friend because of thin bezel, it'd better located on it's side in the same portrait position next to the shortcuts & apps drawer button.

I do agree with this. When in landscape it is in the most inconvenient place possible. I would love a way to force it to remain on the right side but I haven't been able to find a solution other than setting the whole tablet into phone UI mode which then messes with the notifications shade.
If you're only problem is the nav bar, try GMD auto hide soft keys. It works great.

I tried that, not really what I'm looking for. I don't want something that overlays the navbar and hides it when not in use, I want a permanent navbar that just stays on the right side of the screen. With GMD even if I turn auto hide off, it will still hide it when I rotate the screen, and when I swipe to bring it up it always covers part of my dock icons.
Have you tried gravity box xposed module? It gives you the ability to run pie. Or if that's not your thing in navigation bar tweaks it has an always on the bottom feature. It shouldn't be too difficult to make it always on the "short side".Why not ask the Developer in his thread ?

I've used the pie before on my gnex and it was OK. I might give it a shot. Android is starting to feel quite dumbed down lately...

Yep, I use GB on all my devices. I use PIE + expanded desktop when I want to game in full screen. The always on bottom tweak isn't what I'm looking for either. I want it to remain on the right in landscape. I appreciate the input though.

No probs. The part about keeping the navigation on the "short side". I meant on the right (Short Side). It`s worth asking the developer surely
CM10+ and PA had the tablet UI I though and you could pit it on the right hand side. I'm not sure if this applies with the newest KitKat builds though.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
So I have a unlocked Fire Phone, running 3.6.8 that came shipped.
I was going to follow the guide here to turn it into a normal Android phone (http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-phone/general/guide-make-fireos-looks-feel-normal-t2898921), but noted that I will not be able to since I have 3.6.8 (please correct me if I'm mistaken). I ended up following this guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-phone/general/fire-phone-how-to-install-google-play-t2977237) to get Google Play Store running nice and smoothly, and installed the Google Now Launcher since I can't stand FireOS.
However I noticed that after setting Google Now Launcher as the default launcher, the status bar up top is no longer visible, so I dont see information such as notifications, battery. time, and etc, unless I pull down the notification center.
Has anyone else experienced this? If so how were you able to correct it?
Try going into settings, display, hide status bar and make sure your status bar setting is set to on. Might be as simple as that

Ah that was it. Thank you!
Do you by any chance use any sort of on screen nav buttons? I've yet to find one that works well with the GNL.

Damn, I feel like an idiot. I've been running without the status bar for a month. I had no idea it was so simple. You made my day,
Curiosity got the best of me playing around with the new personalization features on Android Revolution HD v41. I ended up losing my navigation bar for it. Now I'm stuck with some 3rd party floating soft key app until I can wipe it. I'd avoid using this feature, otherwise you'll have to reboot to get to the home screen.
This is only happen to specific ROM I guess. So maybe a little change to the title is necessary.
I have no issue with "hide navigation bar" on the ROM with Sense 7 that I'm running now
I have no issue with it on ARHD 40.3, no problems.
Have been using it since I flashed it.
So there is 2 ROM's out..
So my old 6p had a great life, but the battery started to die on me, luckily I still has insurance on it and was upgraded to a Pixel XL 128gb today.
I had the phone unlocked and had a custom ROM on it. I always hide my nav bar and used LMT launcher (I can't use a phone any other way lol).
My question to you guys is it possible to to disable the navbar on stock 8.0 to be able to use LMT?
My second question is about my hotspot. I had a ROM that had a built in hotspot button into it that I used for tethering. Still got my unlimited data on Verizon and would like to continue using it.
So at this point is it possible to get both of those things w stock. Or should I just unlock and root and install a rom?
Thanks so much
I don't do custom ROMs, so can't speak for them, but since Oreo the method of hiding and disabling nav bar has changed. Now to hide the nav bar you need to type a command via ADB or Terminal Emulator, check this topic: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-xl/help/android-oreo-immersioln-mode-problems-t3666479
Second post to be precise. But it hides the nav bar only, the moment you scroll up from bottom it will come back.
So if you wanna disable it permanently, which I prefer anyway, try this (not tested by me personally): https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-xl/themes/mod-navbar-gone-root-t3704916
It could be that your systemui and framework need to match the exact same of the mod's, like in this case the November patch.
No idea about Hot spot thing, sorry.
Hey guys.
So I got my OTA android 10 update today.
But after updating I have gotten a whole lot of issues with the navigation bar.
1. The new android 10 gestures does not work on 3rd party launchers, this was however expected.
2. The main problem is that I now have a space where the navbar is on the bottom of my phone, this is Hella annoying and frankly looks like crap.
For example, I am unable to strech widget all the way down, I also can not place icons where I want.
There is also an ugly overlay on the bottom when using Chrome or the playstore for example.
Is this how it is on Samsungs Android 10? Or have I just messed a setting?
I hade the One plus 7 pro running android 10 before this phone, on my one+ I had none of these issues.
(please spare me the comments about how you shouldn't update right away)
Sorry my question or answer dont help the white bar is were some apps say go full screen then closes it down have you thought about doing a back and rest on it like factory reset

Depends on the launcher you're using I suppose.
Googles Android Gestures in official Samsung Android 10 don't work well, but I'm having no troubles using the Samsung implementation of Android Gestures with Nova Launcher.

I am using Nova launcher an the navbar section is constant, even though I'm using the old gesture based navigation from android 9.
I have same problem with bar not disappearing from bottom. It is so annoying . Maybe factory reset will help but I don't want to risk, setup of whole system takes me a lot of time. Anybody knows solution for this?
I did a factory reset and now all is working well.

Speaking only from experience with my S10+ and the official Android 10 release, I too had to do a factory reset to clear up a bunch of glitches. We will see what happens once my Note 10+ gets the new version.

Oh, come on
No needs to factory reset, just go to Settings> Display> Navigation Bar>
and the turn off "Show button to hide keyboard"

Its always a good idea to perform a factory reset after a major android version update.
Themes were causing this issue for me.
I set navbar ht to 5 with hex installer and it fixed the gap below the keyboard.
Luckily it worked for me out of the box. I'm not a fan as some things become more tedious with this change, but at least I didn't have any issues. Definitely prefer avoiding a reset where possible. Even just using Nova, KLWP, and themes, a reset plus having to set everything back up is annoying af.

How are you using the old gesture based navigation from Android 9 with Nova launcher? I mean do you use Navigation buttons in Samsung settings can can still use gestures? Please show me how. My swipe gestures to switch between open apps don't work anymore in Android 10 when the navigation buttons are enabled.
