Hey guys.
So I got my OTA android 10 update today.
But after updating I have gotten a whole lot of issues with the navigation bar.
1. The new android 10 gestures does not work on 3rd party launchers, this was however expected.
2. The main problem is that I now have a space where the navbar is on the bottom of my phone, this is Hella annoying and frankly looks like crap.
For example, I am unable to strech widget all the way down, I also can not place icons where I want.
There is also an ugly overlay on the bottom when using Chrome or the playstore for example.
Is this how it is on Samsungs Android 10? Or have I just messed a setting?
I hade the One plus 7 pro running android 10 before this phone, on my one+ I had none of these issues.
(please spare me the comments about how you shouldn't update right away)
Sorry my question or answer dont help the white bar is were some apps say go full screen then closes it down have you thought about doing a back and rest on it like factory reset

Depends on the launcher you're using I suppose.
Googles Android Gestures in official Samsung Android 10 don't work well, but I'm having no troubles using the Samsung implementation of Android Gestures with Nova Launcher.

I am using Nova launcher an the navbar section is constant, even though I'm using the old gesture based navigation from android 9.
I have same problem with bar not disappearing from bottom. It is so annoying . Maybe factory reset will help but I don't want to risk, setup of whole system takes me a lot of time. Anybody knows solution for this?
I did a factory reset and now all is working well.

Speaking only from experience with my S10+ and the official Android 10 release, I too had to do a factory reset to clear up a bunch of glitches. We will see what happens once my Note 10+ gets the new version.

Its always a good idea to perform a factory reset after a major android version update.
Themes were causing this issue for me.
I set navbar ht to 5 with hex installer and it fixed the gap below the keyboard.
Luckily it worked for me out of the box. I'm not a fan as some things become more tedious with this change, but at least I didn't have any issues. Definitely prefer avoiding a reset where possible. Even just using Nova, KLWP, and themes, a reset plus having to set everything back up is annoying af.

How are you using the old gesture based navigation from Android 9 with Nova launcher? I mean do you use Navigation buttons in Samsung settings can can still use gestures? Please show me how. My swipe gestures to switch between open apps don't work anymore in Android 10 when the navigation buttons are enabled.

Hi to all!
I'm experiencing a really strange thing when try to set an HOME gesture with some of most famous apps for that purpose, like ALL IN ONE GESTURES, EDGE GESTURES and similar.
If I set recent apps and back gesture, they work in every way I set them...but if I try to set ANY KIND of gesture for returning to home... nothing happens.
The command work properly (I feel the haptic vibration, or alinz, that starts when a command is performed), but the gesture won't work in the end...
Anyone noticed that too? Maybe there's something I missed for make them work?
I use swipe up from bottom border and it works for me. I use aio.

I didn't find the cause yet but it is also happening to me. If I reboot the phone the home gesture starts to work fine, it only breaks if I re-enabled the nav bar + disable immersive mode using their quick tiles provided by joneplustools and systemuituner. The easiest solution is to reboot the phone.
Well but are you rooted?
Because I can disable navbar but on home screen it'll be always there, so I can't use bottom gestures, only edge...

Right now I'm rooted, yes.
Without root the navbar always shows if you swipe from the bottom. You could try a 0px navbar by I think it doesn't work in OOS at the moment.

I already have the 0pt navbar and used successfully on S8 but with OnePlus it just don't works, I suppose because the navbar is named "drawable" in OnePlus internals while in APK it's "navbar", at least I've read it on multiple sources...

Yeah that must be the reason.
If you don't want to root right now your solution is to use a gesture app like edge gestures or swipe navigation because you can use gestures from the right/left edge so you activate the navbar less often.
It's not ideal but is has one advantage; for example when I want to close a game using the back button, the gesture sometimes is not recognized and I have to activate the navbar using the quick setting and that sometimes breaks the home gesture like we discussed yesterday so I have to reboot the phone sometimes. You only have to swipe from the bottom and it's all fine.

According to my experience this kind of problem is most likely caused by a third party app, possibly an xposed module or some half baked apk. Privately exchange a list of your installed apps, compare and concentrate on the more dubious apps you have in common and you may find your culprit there.

Well I don't have any X module since I'm not rooted, apps installed I don't know but I doubt it because are the same apps that was in S8 before, so I don't think that an app can interfere with the 0pt navbar functions...

Yeah that's the main gripe. I suppose you are concerned about burn-in.
I don't know if stock OOS Oreo will fix that. Maybe some Dev can mod the navbar file as I was done with the old filetype as in the Galaxy S8.
I also can tell you that on LiquidRemix 8.0 ( it's on a Telegram group as is in testing stage ) you could hide the navbar completely without root but I understand that you don't want to change the rom and right now is has bugs so is better to stay in Oxygen.
Right now I'm using stock OOS 4.7.4 with root and to update is super easy, just download and flash the full zip, flash your kernel + magisk/superSu after and it's done.
I don't know if you care about Android Pay...

I can tell you that on a fresh installed OOS 4.7.4 without third party apps it doesn't work. The problem is that on Oxygen the navbar has another name in system so that mod doesn't work.
No I don't care about it because there's no need for it now, at least for me.
I've always rooted phones, no problems with that, it's just that I don't feel the need to do it with 5T since is nearly stock and good to run stock "as is"...

I saw a video yesterday on YouTube that showed the option to revert back to the old button layout instead of using gestures. It was on a beta version of Pie but it’s very possible that they kept it in the final release.
Here’s a link to instructions to enable gestures if your on a phone such as the pixel 2 that received the Pie update. I assume turning the gestures off would work the same way.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/how-to-use-android-9-pie-gesture-navigation/amp/
I believe there are posts about gestures being the only form of navigation
I'm on Pie with my Pixel XL and can turn the gesture navigation on or off. I believe the Pixel 3 and 3 XL are forced to use gesture navigation and it can't be turned off.

I don't mind using the nav bar but I just hope Nova Launcher or a custom ROM allows the switching of the back button to the right side of the home button.
just downloaded Hyperion Launcher on my 2xl.
It's interesting as it has features from several different launchers, including nova.
It's brand new and is a little buggy (very little so far) but I think I'm going to play with it for a day or 2.
I didn't purchase the pro version, which is expensive (sort of) at 3.99, but I might if it continues to interest me tomorrow.
As a previous Nova Launcher user for for a few years now, do you guys recommend I get used to Google's default launcher before using Nova again?

If I understand you correctly, this is currently possible without root using custom navigation bar. Latest Pie, assume it should work on 3 XL as well, or at the least should be updated to do so shortly, the dev is excellent with updates.

I kinda prefer the OnePlus gestures because you don't have to give up any space at all for navigation. It's ironic to me that all this effort is being expended on getting a little notched screen real estate when doing away with the nav bar area gives you the same amount of usable screen real estate without a notch covering a large chunk of what you just gained. I mean if you're going to have the horrid notch in the name of more screen real estate why not also grab the wasted space at the bottom of the screen while you're at it?

At a guess I'd say there are some design restraints that affect all Android devices. THAT may be one of them. Specifically, constraints to maintain interoperability between independent developers apps running on Android. Start messing with the navigation menu too much, there's no telling what you are going to break.
Of course, it being Google, maybe they have some idea of what they are going to break and chose not to maketh with the breaking...
Possible, I don't know enough about it to poke at the nuts and bolts of it. With OnePlus you can have it either way at that tap of a button, maybe it was a toggle? My understanding was you could do this with Pie also and just go back to the nav bar if you wanted up until this device. With OnePlus it didn't in any way affect the phone or apps that I have except the launcher. I've got the pay Action and Nova and both of those have gestures you can use which can conflict with the nav gestures. Action in fact put out a beta update that made it so a swipe up from the bottom opened the app drawer and that couldn't be changed which completely broke the OnePlus gestures which also swipe up from the bottom. Cred to those guys, I sent an email about it and it was fixed within a few days so that you could turn that off. Not sure how many sent such an email but it was nice to see the quick response regardless. I guess where I'm going is I can see how it could conflict with something, but it shouldn't be too much from what I've seen; nothing a developer worth his salt wouldn't sort out quickly.
Using stock launcher currently, as swipe right isn't working for me using Nova. Hoping this will be fixed soon.

Well, so far so good. The only negative thing I can say about this release, which may improve over updates, is that Samsung's apps just seem to take maybe around a second more to load.
The dark mode and the adjustments all over the UI for one-hand operation overshadow this one small complaint.

I also updated from Oreo to Pie and was running substratum with sungstrum plugin. I deleted all the themes and cleared all caches and restarted before upgrading to Pie. When upgraded it was all fine but when switching to dark mode all my system apps went berserk and started force closing. Switching back to light mode solved that problem. But apparently there where still files from substratum conflicting with the dark theme. So I had to reset to factory settings and after that the problem was entirely gone. So maybe this is a heads up for some one else before upgrading.
The first drawback I encountered is the app drawer. When trying to move app icons to the bottom part of the screen it sets it automatically back to the top position. I find this very strange given the fact that Samsung wanted to let us use the bottom part of the screen more than the top part. Now I still have to reach to the top part of my screen. Not very "one handed" friendly. I use my icons in groups maybe that has something to do with it.
For now I still have to discover the upgrade more, but it looks promising for now. Its fast and the UI is smooth as butter.

Can't do those things with the stock pixel launcher to my knowledge. However, a modified pixel launcher might do the trick if your rooted. Look in this thread, and talk to @Tulsadiver to see if he can make one for you. What exactly isn't Nova launcher doing for you? Seems to be working fine for me.

You can remove the Google search bar, resize the icons and choose how many columns you want in the all-apps area and how many in the hot spot on the home page by using my Pixel Launcher zip installer. Plus background colors and text colors.
Choose one of the bases for No-Google search, flash anything else you like, lastly, flash complete installation. There will be a zip file created on your sdcard in a folder called ozop. Flash that via magisk manager.

The search bar is not removable from the Pixel Launcher dock, and the Pixel Launcher does not support infinite scroll for screens. You'll have to use a custom launcher to do that, which leads to my question: what's not working properly on Nova Launcher? I've encountered no troubles with it on Android 10.
I have a Verizon edition so bone stock. Android 10 broke my adb command as well as the Custom Nav app. Hopefully issue is resolved soon.

I did notice this but didn't think it a big enough deal to mention. To remove an individual page however, swipe up. The recents screen is gesture-based.
If you're using a Verizon device, then there's no root for you at all unless you were lucky enough to get a device that mistakenly was unlockable. Verizon locks their bootloaders.
Thanks for the tip on the swipe up. I hadn't tried that and it works.

Hi,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S9 (Unlocked) which is running Android 10. I was looking to remove the Google search bar as well.
All I did was long press on the bar itself, a menu then pops up with 2 options
1) Information about google search
2) Remove search bar from home screen.
So I press option 2 and hey presto it is gone. Have just done a reboot to check that it doesn't come back and it hasn't!
Could it really be that easy?????!!!!

On a Samsung it's possible as they aren't a Google Pixel and don't use the Pixel's stock launcher.
Previously, double tab recent tab will switch to previous app.
For Android 10, I need to press and drag from center to bring up recent apps. However, I can't find faster way to switch to previous app.
Any one know how?
If you do that motion (for recents) and flick it to the right in just one motion switches back to previous app.

I switched back to the original one. Double tap is so much easy. I use One Hand Operation+ which can go back the same way.
And I use Nova Launcher. New gesture is not compatible

I don't have the Android 10 update yet but from what I see in the new Oneui2 you can just swipe to the right at the bottom to go to your previous app. Doesn't get better than that. It's just about the same as iPhone gesture.

I'm using Nova launcher. Can't use the gesture anyway.

oh I see.. Have you tried to see it works with Lawnchair 2?
Also, you can swipe to the left and go real quick to original app you were on. Try it!

I tried this method https://www.theandroidsoul.com/how-...ova-launcher-and-other-third-party-launchers/ but it always seems to go back to the nav bar at the bottom after a while.
I don't know if anyone else is facing the sake issue in regard to the navigation gestures. But when I type faster on the screen keyboard I sometimes end up in the home screen or launching another application as if I hit a hidden home key or recent key.
I use gestures (no navigation bar)

I still haven't received the Android 10 update but I will definitely look for that when I get it. Thanks q
I recently found out that good lock does not work on android 10, and I rely on it very much, I use one handed operation because I hate the nav bar, I can not tolerate having all the space it takes being wasted, so I have it hidden and I use gestures, but I am seeing that gesture nav is a nightmare on android 10, I think I will stick on blocking the update, as I did since day one, precisely because of these things

I'm on Android 10 and have Good lock installed, One Hand Operation+ works fine. Not all apps are available in Good lock yet but should be within a couple of months, like when One UI originally came out.
One hand operations+ works also on Android 10, with that you have granular customizable gestures including switch to last app, recents and a comfy lateral quick switch for all app opened! OHO+ works also without good lock app installed, you can sideload it from apkmirror or here in the xda forums taking advantage of nicelock. Nicelock also integrates an information tab with all the modules working on Android 10
Hex installer is working
On andriod 10. Hex installer fixed the weird nav bar issue when set to swipe. I set the nav bar size to 5. Swipes work without the huge black bar under the keyboard.
One hand operation still works. I use nova but one hand operation is my preference anyway.
Also, I cannot hide the carrier logo or move the clock. I tried systemui turner. It doesnt work for clock or carrier. Some other functions work though.
For now I just set the weather consistent notification to get rid of the AT&T on statusbar.
Hopefully goodlock will fix this when updated.

Good Lock is updating to be more compatible with Android 10. It is not finished yet. When all capability issues are resolved and updated, that's when we will get our update.
