Same on stock?

Yes and on CM11 it's worst I can't even use the phone random touches everywhere I bought my phone unlocked so no warranty and you imagine the pain of replacing that screen..

Bumping the thread cause I'm having the same issue.
Top of the touchscreen went dead. Basically overnight. Factory reset and RUU back to factory did not help. The deadspot happened overnight whilst the phone was charging (if that helps). The actual screen works fine, but does not respond to touch.
Any ideas?

Does not respond to touch ? Hows that possible, unless the digitizer dies ! ? Looks like your overnight charging heated up the device to an extent where the digitizer died. Why don't you send it in for a repair ?

Just the top half inch is not responding to touch. And the device has never gotten hot when charging.
I guess I will have to take it in to Sprint.

Found this post while looking for a resolution to wifes pbone doing this. She is full stock never rooted. Anyone know of any fix short of repair?

Only resolve I've found it getting the screen replaced. Short of physical damage to the screen, the dead spot is an actual defect.

That's True! I have same problem with my HTC Desire 616. And slowly, it is spreading downward on the rest of the screen. Its better to get it replaced now than waiting for whole screen to go blank and having to attach external Keyboard!

This just happened to my m8... happened in the middle of the day all of a sudden. Wasn't playing with it, just set it down at one point and the next time I picked it up to check notifications I couldn't pull down the shade.

Have unrooted mine and sent to Service Centre for Repair. Sadly, they take a minimum of 10-15 days to return as they are mostly short pf parts.

This has just happened to me too.
I suspect a software problem as I can use the entire screen to scroll up and down when I start the scroll from elsewhere on the screen (such as putting my finger in the middle and then slowly moving up to the top, the scroll works without issue.
The same applies to the notifications shade which again works puling it down from anywhere on the screen.
However, no single tap functions work in that top half an inch. I can move icons to it on the home screen, but once I let go they are stuck there, can not be moved back. any icon in that zone won't tap. When in the system menu I can only go back with the softkey, not any back button at the top.
In any app this zone is also dead so no more can I use web browsers as I can't click into the address bar or open bookmarks.
This has happened over night last night. Really don't want to perform a hard reset but it's looking like it might be my next option.
edit - I can also confirm I have full touch functionality when the notification bar is down, so I can dismiss them and open system settings if I like with the square icon at the top.

I've just managed to resolve this not 2 mins since writing my post above. A phone shutdown and/or restart didn't help, but here's what did:
press and hold the volume up and power button for 10 seconds. This apparently seems to restart the phone differently to using the normal power button and choosing one of the options.
Phone is now fully working again. Hit the thanks meter if it works for you too!

I'm having the same issue as the user in the first post picture, any help except replacing the whole screen?

having the same issue.. was anyone able to fix it?

hi!! just cheking to see if you were able to fix it, I am having the same issue

Same problem here, touchscreen just don't work at the top screen, can't even pull the notification tab. Problem seemed to appear overnight, while the phone was unplugged over my desk. I do believe it have something to do with me using the phone moments earlier on my bed, while I was resting. Had the phone on my ear, against the bed (yeah, no earplugs at the time) so I basically spent some time sleeping over it and now touchscreen seems unresponsive at the top. Probably the only fix for this is replacing your touchscreen for a new one. Btw, tried to restart by pressing the volume up and power button, but didn't work.

Damn, same thing happened to mine. About 7 days ago it started becoming really finicky and now know the top 2- 3 cm is unsable. It seems like it's working it's way down :/

Same problem here. But top screen touch sensitivity has degraded in a few days from not very responsive to totally unresponsive. Also noticed a problem with the color on the display. The yellow/orange trace (contained in the red circle) is not a reflection, but a lcd probem.

Bump for reporting the same problem here. WTF is going on with the overnight dying of the top portion of the digitizer? I cannot access the notification panel, and I used Screen Touch Test which confirmed the problem.
There is an upper strip which does not respond to touches, except for some pixels on the right side of the strip.
Anyone managed to fix without replacing the digitizer?

Wierdest thing happened to my 8525 please help!!!

ok so i searched on the sites for a fading to a white screen problem but it looks like its related to the dpad... my phone was really low on battery last night it kept beeping continuously... so by the time i got to plug it in the screen started to fade to white... now the screen has vslight vertical lines and every time i shut off the phone with the power button and turn it on it comes normal but as soon as u touch the screen it fades to white!!! was this caused by the low battery. i fully charged it but still have the same prob. i tried clearing my storage and that didn't help..what do i do?
white screen
you will need to replace the board for the dpad.
ok thanks. is this the same issue that others are having as well? the wierd thing is half the time it works the other half it doesnt...
I had a similar problem. I had pressed the power button to check the time and screen was white! SR rebooted and after the first splash screen the screen faded to white. I finally founded a product called Pocket Controller http://www.soti.net/ (trial ver works fine) that allowed me to see my phone on my computer. I was then able to backup my data to the storage card. I reflashed the phone and it’s worked fine afterwards.
yeah man thats what happened to me exactly... im reflashing the official wm6 rom now... ill post what happens... thanks

damn it didnt work with me my screen still goes in and out when it chooses to. and it is my dpad b/c it stops working when the screen is gonna go..
Hi,
Try tightening the screw behind the red hang up button on the dpad. There is a component behind there which causes this problem. If tightening doesn't work try loosening. It's all to do with the pressure on the chip. Very odd problem.
Also try squeezing the bottom right hand corner of the phone and SR.
Bonkers solution for a bonkers problem but it certainly fixed one of mine.
Good luck!
yes, the screw tightening/unloosing thing works for me. same thing happened when i dropped my unit. i even completely dismantled it (managed to fix the microsd card spring). something loose with the connections.
niec guys thanks... i will try the tightening and loosening the screw... i tried holding down the bottom right and SR didn't work but thanks anway... i guess i have to buy a screw driver to open this thing up... god i remember when i had to take apart my mpx 220 im getting flashbacks!!!
Had exactly the same problem but mine was due to an phone shop employee dropping it. It would do exactly the same as yours. Sometimes it would work fine and once when I reflashed it the problem went away for a few days but if came back.
I used to control it using Soti pocket controller but them migrated to Net Support as that allowed me to control over wifi. In the end had to get it replaced.

Help my phone is dying!!!

I got my hermes from my friend, (HTC X01HT), she didnt want it because she dropped it and the ringer didnt work. it had only gotten unplugged, so i opened it, plugged it in, and had an awesome phone.
I dont think this is normal, but from the time she gave it to me, the screen made an awful highpitched ringing noise, (very uni-directional, it was weird).
Anyways...
now, the screen is just white. for a little while i could get the screen back, just by opening and closing the slider and hitting the power button a couple times.
Sometimes the today would display, then it would jarble up a little bit then fade to white, but i cant even get it to do that anymore.
Anyone else seen this issue? i'd hate to get rid of a perfectly awesome phone.
Thanks!
(also, if someone could post a picture of the device locked screen, where you have to enter a PIN to use the phone, that would be great, im trying to get into the phone with activesync, but its locked, and i dont know where to push the buttons.)
thanks!
~Mix3d
Looks like the screen is unplugged, really. Maybe you need to disassemble further, like http://www.pdacenter.ru/razborka/razbor_hermes/ shows?
keep in mind, it worked fine for almost three weeks before the screen issue started... but i will try that when i get my hands on a small flathead again.
There's a whitescreen & D-Pad failure issue that can be caused by many things, including DROPPING the phone.
I wrote a guide about it which seems to be quite successful for many people.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=321163
so after trying a hard-reset, (which somehow displayed on teh screen), and clicking no, i was able to get the screen back... only this time with the moved screen problem, wrapping around at the top about 1mm.... and the buttons didnt work.
i tried your guide, but now im stuck at the white screen again... :/

[Q] Screen black out after calls and random intervals.

Hi there,
I have scoured the Wildfire S forums for an answer to this and have posted previously in another similar thread with no response.
About 50% of the time, after I finish a phone call, and press end call, the call ends and the screen goes black immediately and won't come on again. The phone still responds, i.e. alerts me of incoming phone calls/messages, but I can't answer them and the touchscreen doesn't respond (the screen is completely inactive, so I can't unlock the screen even with the backlight off, if you follow).
Also, when I'm mid phone call, and I'm using an automated service where I need to type stuff on the keypad, the screen switches off all the time after I press each digit, sometimes I don't even have time to press the digit I want. This is quite frustrating!
The only way around these problems is by taking the battery out or by plugging into the mains, but even then it seems a temporary fix. I have ensured the screen brightness is on 100% at all times (as I read in another post) and have changed power saver settings to not reduce the brightness too, but still, it renders the phone pretty useless.
I'm on 2.13.401.2 RUU and it was doing this on my previous stock ROM (I believe it was 1.******).
Hope you can help... it's a great phone, just a shame I can't see the screen.
MD.
hey bro,
well if you bought your phone in last 6 months you may face this problem...
for an interval of time WFS screen will stop responding
even mine did the same..i donno how it got fixed and what was the reason behind that fault...
i just remember that i used an NON-HTC charger at McDonald to charge my phone....i saw same jack and charged it...after that my screen started responding in a wierd manner....
so i'd suggest
- dont use any other charger ...only official HTC charger Provided with hand set
-avoid using laptop Usb port to charge your phone...
and now HOW I FIXED IT part..
i kept my phone under sunlight to heat up....actually me and my friend was going somewhere in car and my phone was kept near front glass, so sunrays fell on it and it got heated...after i reached home it was working fine...and till now i dint got any problem.....
i know this is an illogical treatment LOL
but atleast give it a try...and if not fixed then must go to HTC service centre and get it fixed

Phone working but screen black

Hello everyone,
I have since the first time an LG G3 (D855) that I root and that works very well.
Recently I bought a new one from a friend for my girlfriend.
He never root it, he reset it and sent it to me by mail.
At the reception, I turn on the phone and there, I have the LED lights, sound start but nothing on the screen.
It reacts when I put the finger on the screen so the touch sensor works.
I try a restart and battery removal but nothing better.
The screen has no shock but I told myself that perhaps during the trip he took a bad cut.
I hope it's just a miswired table, so I dismounted to check, but still nothing.
ThenI try something, I disconnect my phone too and I swapped motherboards.
And then the screen with my card in it work.
While my screen with the motherboards of the phone I just bought stay blank.
So the screen is not broken, perhaps it was a install problem.
So I use LG Flash Tool to reinstall the original rom (following a tutorial )
Everything goes well and ends without worries.
But that didnt change anything, the screen is still black.
Do you have an idea ?
Thank you in advance for your assistance and sorry for my bad english
I just realized that if I strongly illuminates the screen I can see that it works.
It' like brightness was at zero.
It's not a screen problem because when I plug it to the other motherboard brightness is ok.
Someone had this issue?
Same problem here
So I'm having the same problem at the moment, but this is the 2nd time that this has happened to me. Last time. I fixed it by changing charger. It worked for like 2-3 month and then I switched again and the problem came back. I suggest you try a few charges. It took around a week before it got fixed.
Hope it'll work for you.
BTW it was a Nokia charger
Black screen G2 after some seconds even during boot...

Exactly the same problem on my LG G2.
It often go to black screen, but it's not totally OFF. Touch work, and the screen the same, i noticed using a torch that the brightness when to something like zero, but if i increase the level, it stay dark. Only press power button sometimes come back, but few second later... Dark screen again.
It happens everywhere during boot, in home, in lockscreen, in TWRP.
I tried:
- Change rom
- Flash stock firmware...
- Totally switched off for 2 months
- Detach and reattach the screen
- Test proximity sensor in hidden menu
Nothing worked.
If anyone has an idea...

Wierd touch problem. Please help!

My z2 plus started having ghost touches on the bottom right part of the screen.
The touches are inconsistent. At one point everything is going well and suddenly the phone becomes unresponsive and anything that is at the bottom right corner gets pressed.
This goes on for a second or so and then either everything gets back to normal or the phone goes berserk for 10-15 seconds. And then there could be several hours before this happens again or just a minute.
This is happening also in TWRP.
Can someone point me in the right direction???

No. I hadn't replaced it before or after the issue.
I actually just wanted to give it some more time, because today is just the second day, but the issue was fixed by following this post:
