Hello everyone!
I'm very interested in this tablet and instead of buying a stand alone GPS navigator I decided to buy a good tablet that would do a lot more bunch of stuff.
Did any of you try the capabilities of the Tab PRO 10.1" as a GPS navigator? Is the fix slow of fast? I use Sygic, did any of you had/have the chance to try it on this tablet?
Hope someone will help me
I use the 8.4" and a HTC One (m7).
I don't think the 8.4" GPS or WiFi "chips" are as good as the HTC One's.
GPS is slower to pick up a signal and the WiFi works over a much shorter range.
When testing the 8.4 inside, I can wait forever to get a GPS signal, the phone's GPS pick up is just a few seconds.
I've not used the tablet for actually navigate (due to dashboard placement), but, I've tested Sygic in "demo" mode and it works fine.
To sum up, I think the tablet should pick up a GPS signal, by the time you've got into and setup your tablet holder/cables in your car.

Working on sm t525 sygic 13.2no lags
Thank you guys! I use now a Galaxy S2 and I find it very hard to navigate: it's slow, laggy and the GPS chip is not fast at all. In a cloudy day I basically can't pick up more than 3 satellites.
I think I'll go with the 10.1" Pro, but only after the 12th of June (when the Tab S line show up) so to know if I'm more interested in one or the other.
In the meantime, please feel free to add any comments or suggestions.
Thank you again!

I installed Garmin XT on my MDA Vario II with success but need a GPS reciever for it. What reciever do I need or will any Bluetooh GPS reciever work?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Pretty much any should work.

You should aim for something with at least a SiRFStar III chipset though any should work reasonably well.
I know I will probably get blasted for this but, I find the more channels you have the better the performance.
Using a 16 channel receiver it took up to 10 minutes to get a good lock and you could forget it if you were in a built up city area or it was overcast. I now use a 54 channel receiver. Lock in under a minute and much more reliable in built up areas.
Cheers...
why would you get blasted for it, when its true, i had the same with my voda 1605, it works better and faster with a higher sat ratio, mine you it does only need it htink 8 to actually work.
Posted before that the more channels the better it worked and was told in no uncertain terms by a few people that there are only 24 satellites and so you don't need more than that as it won't pick them up...
Found using the GPS receiver that it was faster the more channels used. And more accurate too. I used to get lag on screen using Tomtom 7 with directions being told a few seconds AFTER I needed to turn corners, etc... Was a major hassle and when I was told I was in the middle of Sydney harbour I wasn't impressed, though the GPS did say to turn right..?!
The more channels the better the signal lock and more accurate the directions though there may still be areas that you won't receive info, I tend to find that the internal GPS receivers are still better than bluetooth, but any port in a storm, and I'm too broke to buy a GPS for myself.
Cheers...
Hi fellas,
I recently bought a Sony Z3TC to use as my daily driver and therefore replacing my Note II. Although I love the tablet, I found two things I really hate. The lack of a private speaker, making it only possible to take calls using the loudspeaker - which isn't that convenient unless you carry a BT headset around with you.
The other part is the camera, which is so-so. Although I'm not that used to "fancy" cameras (like the ones on the Sony Z3 for example), I still find it annoying to be without a proper flash. I've been comparing photos taken with the Z3TC and Tab S, and find the Tab S to come out on top - not by a lot in daylight, but more so in darker scenarios.
So I'm basically wondering if you guys can recommend an Tab S 8.4 - or if I should wait for the "new" slate which is supposed to be released in Korea later this month. Although I live in Sweden, I'm sure we'll be able to buy the new slate with improved specs soonish enough. I keep reading on this forum regarding the sluggish performance of TouchWiz on the Tab S. Is it really that bad? The Z3TC is flawless in that regard, which I truly love. See, my Note II somehow feels slower and slower for each day that passes. Should I prepare for a similar experience with the current Tab S?
Is there anyone on this forum who's using his/hers Tab S as a daily driver / phone replacement and care to give me some opinions whether it's an good idea or not?
Gone the other way
Hi
I just went the other way due to the stutter/lag present on the Tab S. The Exynos processor is not man enough to shove around all those extra pixels, and TouchWiz is a pig. Loving the Z3TC, but I also have a phone so not trying to use it for voice calls. If you are outside the US, then all versions of the Tab S are Exynos (not snapdragon). The Exynos based Tab S 8.4 LTE uses an intel chip to do the 3g/4g stuff and this its-self has issues with 3g/4g handover. I had to flick mine in/out of flight mode to regain connectivity all the time. If you are inside the US then the LTE version is Snapdragon 800 based, and the WiFi version Exynos based.
I also find the battery life on the Z3TC to be way way better than that of the Tab S 8.4

Hi all,
I'm thinking about purchasing the Tab Pro 12.2, but just wondering what your thoughts are for my use.
I currently have a Nexus 7 (16gb) and an Acer C720 Chromebook. I also have a OnePlus One, so the Nexus 7 doesn't get much use over my phone so I'm looking to upgrade the tablet. Would the Tab Pro 12.2 be a suitable replacement for a Chromebook? Assuming I don't get an external keyboard, how easy is it to type on a tablet this large? Also, with the keyboard does a Chromebook still have any advantages to this? When web browsing, do websites default to mobile view or do they load normally which is what I would like with a screen this big.
I can get a new return for $320 which seems like a great deal. Also, any known issues I should know about. It seems like the Note series has more problems.
I'm not going to go thru and answer all those questions, but I will tell you. I have a chromebook. A note 4. A note 8.0, a galaxy tab 3 7.0 and multiple laptops. I thought for a while the same thing. Did I want a tablet that big? Or would it just lay on my dresser? And my tab 12.2 is now my go to. I love this thing. I'm stock rooted with just a few mods and a little theming. It runs smooth as butter. It's fast, lightweight. Great screen. I say for $320 grab it up. I paid $500 for mine new, but on sale. They retail for $649 for my 32gb
Thanks for answering. Do you use the 12.3 with a keyboard or do you find the on screen keyboard is sufficient enough to do most things. The tablet would basically be used for web surfing so keyboard input would be limited to web searching and forum posts.
So, after a short experiment involving an IPhone, I'll be going back to Android soon. I'm thinking about getting a S9.
Can you guys tell me how your experience concering GPS reception has been so far? I rely heavily on it, so it really needs to be solid and I've been burned with an LG G5 in the past. I'm also quite interested in Samsung DEX and "Linux on Galaxy". Does anyone have the Dex environment working well? Would you say it's more than a gimmick? Any other serious issues I should be aware of before I hand over my money to Samsung? Thank you!
Galaxy s9 has a good gps.
about 3 meters accuracy in europe.
We are waiting for modifications to the GPS settings.
Because l5 can be active sometime.
That means cm accuracy

I'm trying to decide what to replace my Tab Pro 8.4 with. It will be either the Tab S or S2. Faced with the same choices, what would you choose and why?

I have a Galaxy Tab S 10.5 that I handed down to my daughter in January - I used it daily for 4 years - it was great, though battery life was getting too short for my regular use (I did replace the battery about 2 years in). Also, a few a key apps were not working as well - notably Minecraft which was really slow to load and was no longer as smooth.
I replaced the S 10.5 with a Galaxy Tab S6 - relatively pricey, but great for my daily use.
"Also, a few a key apps were not working as well... "
That's curious. Any idea what would explain that?

No ideas except:
1) apps like Minecraft seem to get more complex with every update. This app just got slower and slower to load and less graphically smooth.
2) I have no idea if the hardware just gets slower with age - worn out from heat, etc.
It primarily was the declining battery life which prompted me to replace my Tab S 10.5. Otherwise I was mostly happy with it. It still even works ok with Minecraft - good enough that my daughter doesn't care!
